Is Buying Candle Wax in Bulk Cheaper?
Aktie
Is a 10 kg pack of soy wax cheaper than ten 1 kg packs? On Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 the rate is identical — ₹507.40/kg either way. On Soy Pillar Wax it is ₹600.00/kg either way. Divide the pack price by the kilos before assuming a discount.
How much does a bulk wax saving add up to per candle? Divide the per-kilo step by five for a 200 g candle. The Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 step is ₹2.52 a candle — about 1.3% of the materials in a typical scented jar candle. The largest step on the store is ₹5.04 a candle.
Where does the real saving from bulk buying come from? Fewer consignments of inward freight, fewer stopped production days and one consistent lot of wax. None of those is a CSI-published rate — freight is your courier's figure — and for most small brands they are worth more than the per-kilo step.
The direct answer: usually not, and by less than you think
Buying candle wax in bulk is sometimes cheaper per kilo at CSI and usually is not. Twelve waxes on the store are sold in more than one pack size. Three of them are published at a lower rate in a larger pack: Natural Soy Pearl Wax steps ₹25.20 a kilo at 5 kg, Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 steps ₹13.00 a kilo at 5 kg, and Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 steps ₹12.60 a kilo when you move from the 500 g pack to 1 kg and then holds that rate all the way to 10 kg. The other nine are the same per kilo whatever size you buy.
Even where the step is real, it is small in the only unit that matters — one candle. The biggest published step, ₹25.20 a kilo, is ₹5.04 on a 200 g candle. The step on Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is ₹2.52 a candle, about 1.3% of the materials in a typical 200 g scented jar candle costed later on this page. If you came here hoping that ordering 10 kg instead of 1 kg would rescue a thin margin, the honest answer is that it will not. The margin has to come from the vessel, the format, the scent range or the price you charge.
That does not make bulk pointless. It makes it a different kind of decision. The reliable savings from buying wax in bigger packs are one consignment of inward freight instead of several, one lot of wax behaving identically across a whole season, and no production stopping halfway through a festive run. Two of those three are worth real money and none of them appears on a CSI price list — because freight and lost days are your costs, not ours.
Every CSI wax, per kilo, at every pack size
This is the table the rest of the page argues from. Every figure is a live pack price divided by the weight in the pack, on live CSI stock in September 2026, taxes included. Where a cell is blank, that wax is not sold in that size.
| Wax | 500 g | 1 kg | 5 kg | 10 kg | Cheapest per kilo |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 | ₹520.00 | ₹507.40 | ₹507.40 | ₹507.40 | ₹507.40 from 1 kg up |
| Luxury Soy Wax Chunks | ₹598.00 | ₹599.00 | ₹599.00 | ₹599.90 | ₹598.00 at 500 g |
| Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 | ₹650.00 | ₹650.00 | ₹637.00 | ₹637.00 | ₹637.00 from 5 kg up |
| Soy Pillar Wax | ₹600.00 | ₹600.00 | ₹600.00 | ₹600.00 | ₹600.00 at any pack |
| Eco Soy CSI 400 | — | ₹399.00 | ₹399.20 | — | ₹399.00 at 1 kg |
| Natural Soy Pearl Wax | — | ₹450.00 | ₹424.80 | ₹424.80 | ₹424.80 from 5 kg up |
| Premium Coconut Soy Wax | ₹920.00 | ₹920.00 | — | — | ₹920.00 at either pack |
| Beeswax Pellets | — | ₹800.00 | ₹800.00 | ₹800.00 | ₹800.00 at any pack |
| Coconut Wax | ₹1,026.60 | ₹1,026.60 | — | — | ₹1,026.60 at either pack |
| Soy Butter Wax | ₹1,097.40 | ₹1,097.40 | — | — | ₹1,097.40 at either pack |
| Fully Refined Paraffin Wax Pellets | ₹354.00 | ₹354.00 | — | — | ₹354.00 at either pack |
| Microcrystalline Wax Slab | ₹298.00 | ₹299.00 | — | — | ₹298.00 at 500 g |
Three readings of that table are worth spelling out. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is the clearest case of a step that is worth taking and then ignoring: buy 1 kg rather than 500 g and you are already at the best rate CSI publishes for it, ₹507.40 a kilo, with nothing further to gain at 5 or 10 kg. Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 is the opposite shape: 500 g and 1 kg are both ₹650.00 a kilo, and the step only arrives at the 5 kg pack. Natural Soy Pearl Wax has the deepest ladder of any CSI wax, running to a 50 kg pack, and also publishes the least about how to work with it.
Three waxes are missing from the table on purpose, and it is worth saying why rather than leaving a gap. The Soy Wax 464 Pellets are currently unavailable, so quoting a ladder for them would be quoting a price you cannot act on. The clear gel wax is sold as a single 1 kg slab at ₹590.00, and a single pack has no ladder to compare. The semi-refined paraffin is likewise a single 1 kg listing and is down to its last unit, so it is not a grade to plan a bulk decision around. Everything else CSI sells in more than one size is in the table.
Pack price ÷ kilos = your rate. ₹3,185.00 ÷ 5 = ₹637.00 a kilo; ₹650.00 ÷ 1 = ₹650.00 a kilo. Two divisions tell you exactly what a size-up is worth, and they take less time than reading an opinion about it. Do them again each time you order rather than trusting a figure you noted last season — the linked product page is always the authority.
What the saving is actually worth, per candle
A 200 g candle uses a fifth of a kilo of wax, so every per-kilo saving is divided by five before it reaches the product. Here is each of the three real steps, translated.
| Wax | Step | Where it happens | Per 200 g candle | Per 100 candles | Per 1,000 candles |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Natural Soy Pearl Wax | ₹25.20/kg | 1 kg → 5 kg | ₹5.04 | ₹504.00 | ₹5,040.00 |
| Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 | ₹13.00/kg | 1 kg → 5 kg | ₹2.60 | ₹260.00 | ₹2,600.00 |
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 | ₹12.60/kg | 500 g → 1 kg | ₹2.52 | ₹252.00 | ₹2,520.00 |
| Luxury Soy Wax Chunks | none | flat across all four packs | — | — | — |
| Soy Pillar Wax | none | flat across all four packs | — | — | — |
| Beeswax Pellets | none | flat at 1, 5 and 10 kg | — | — | — |
Now put that beside the whole candle. A 200 g scented jar candle in Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at the 1 kg rate, with 16 g of Fresh Strawberries Fragrance Oil at 8% of wax weight from a 1 kg bottle, an Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) wick and a 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar bought at the 50-piece rate, costs ₹193.52 in materials from CSI, before your own packaging, freight and labour. The wax in it is ₹101.48 — a little over half. The bulk step of ₹2.52 is about 1.3% of that candle.
| Line | Quantity | Rate used | Cost | Share |

| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 | 200 g | ₹507.40/kg | ₹101.48 | 52% |

What "flat" really means — and when the big pack costs slightly more
Nine of the twelve multi-pack waxes carry the same rate at every size. Soy Pillar Wax is ₹600.00 a kilo at 500 g, 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg. Beeswax Pellets is ₹800.00 a kilo at 1, 5 and 10 kgs. Premium Coconut Soy Wax, Coconut Wax, Soy Butter Wax and Fully Refined Paraffin Wax Pellets are each identical across their two packs. On those grades, the question "is bulk cheaper" has a one-word answer, and the pack decision belongs entirely to how you work: how much you can melt at once, how much you can lift, and how much dry shelf you have.
Two waxes are marginally dearer per kilo at the larger pack. On Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, the 500 g pack works out at ₹598.00 a kilo and the 10 kg pack at ₹599.90 — ₹1.90 a kilo more, or about ₹0.38 on a 200 g candle. On Microcrystalline Wax Slab, the 500 g pack is ₹298.00 a kilo against ₹299.00 at 1 kg. Eco Soy CSI 400 is ₹399.00 a kilo at 1 kg and ₹399.20 at 5 kg. These differences are too small to buy or avoid a pack for — twenty 500 g bags of Chunks to save ₹19.00 on 10 kg would be a poor use of an afternoon — but they do settle the question. On those grades, buying bigger is not buying cheaper.
| Bought as | Packs | Total | Per kilo | Difference vs the 10 kg pack |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Twenty 500 g packs | 20 × ₹299.00 | ₹5,980.00 | ₹598.00 | ₹19.00 lower |
| Ten 1 kg packs | 10 × ₹599.00 | ₹5,990.00 | ₹599.00 | ₹9.00 lower |
| Two 5 kg packs | 2 × ₹2,995.00 | ₹5,990.00 | ₹599.00 | ₹9.00 lower |
| One 10 kg pack | 1 × ₹5,999.00 | ₹5,999.00 | ₹599.90 | — |
What should decide the pack when the rate does not
Three practical things, in order. How much you can melt in one session — a 1 litre melter and a 10 kg bag are a mismatch that turns into repeated decanting, and decanting is where wax gets spilled and contaminated. How much you can lift and reseal on your own — a part-used 10 kg bag needs somewhere to live that is as dry as the shelf it came from. And how quickly the grade moves: a wax you pour every week can sit in a big pack happily, while a grade you use for one format a month is better bought small so that the bag is opened and finished rather than opened and forgotten.
There is one genuine argument in favour of the single large pack that price cannot show: consistency. Wax is made in lots, and a run poured from one 10 kg pack is poured from one lot. That matters most when you are burn-testing a wick size or matching a finish across a hundred gift candles for a single customer, and it matters least for a mixed month of small orders. It is worth paying a rupee or two a kilo for when a corporate order depends on every candle looking the same.
Where the saving actually comes from
If the per-kilo step is small or absent, why does every experienced maker still buy wax in larger packs as they grow? Because the saving lives elsewhere. Four places, in rough order of size for a small Indian brand:
| Line | Small packs | Bulk packs | Who publishes the rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, 20 kg | Forty 500 g packs — ₹10,400.00 | Two 10 kg packs — ₹10,148.00 | CSI — a ₹252.00 difference |
| Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, 20 kg | Twenty 1 kg packs — ₹11,980.00 | Two 10 kg packs — ₹11,998.00 | CSI — the smaller packs are marginally lower |
| Inward freight | Several consignments | One consignment | your courier — not a CSI cost |
| Storage | A shelf | A dry, sealed, shaded shelf | your figure — not a CSI cost |
| Production stoppages | More likely | Less likely | your own records |
| Lot consistency | Several lots possible | One lot | Not a price at all |
One customer review on the store puts the freight point better than a worksheet can: a repeat buyer writes that the products are of premium quality and that she is a permanent customer, but that the delivery charges are high enough to restrict how much they buy. That is a fair criticism and it is exactly the mechanism described above working in reverse — freight is a per-consignment cost, so it rewards fewer, larger orders and punishes frequent small ones. Consolidating an order is usually worth more to an Indian candle maker than any per-kilo step on this page.
One thing bulk buying does not improve is wastage, and it is worth separating the two. The wax left clinging to a pitcher, the topping-up pour, the batch abandoned because the temperature ran away — those losses are a percentage of what you pour, so they scale with output and are untouched by pack size. This guide uses 3% as a working allowance, which is an assumption rather than measured data; on a 100-candle run that is about 600 g of wax, worth ₹304.44 at the Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 rate. That single figure is larger than the entire ₹12.60-a-kilo step applied to the same run, which tells you where the attention belongs. Tightening the pour and scraping the pitcher pays better than any pack size on this catalogue.
What bulk costs you on the other side
Against a saving of ₹2.52 a candle, four costs sit on the other side of the ledger, and for a small brand they are frequently larger. Cash: two 10 kg packs of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is ₹10,148.00 committed to wax for up to three months. Storage: the Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 page asks for cool, dry storage away from sunlight and moisture, and states a 60-month shelf life on that basis; the Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 page states the same 60 months and asks that packs be kept sealed. In a Nagpur May or a Kochi monsoon those are instructions, not decoration. Commitment: 20 kg of a grade is 100 candles of a decision you have already made. Risk: if the wax does not suit your vessel or your wick, you own the problem in quantity.
Storage failure in wax is quiet rather than dramatic, which is what makes it expensive. Soy flakes that have taken up damp through a monsoon do not look different in the bag; they behave differently in the pitcher and on the surface of the candle, and by the time you can see it you have poured a batch. Heat is the other half: a bag left where the afternoon sun reaches it goes through repeated softening and resetting, and comes out compacted rather than free-flowing, which makes weighing slower and melting less even. Neither is a reason to avoid buying in quantity. Both are reasons to sort out the shelf before the pack arrives, not after.
A workable ceiling for most small brands: do not hold more wax than you expect to pour in about two months, and never fund a bulk order with money already promised to a customer's job. Wax keeps well in the right conditions — 60 months, per the two pages that publish a figure — but cash does not keep at all when a jar order lands and the account is empty.
The verdict, by the size of your run
The arithmetic does not change with output, but its importance does. Here is what the numbers on this page mean at four realistic levels of production, all at 200 g candles.
| Your output | Wax a month | Best published rate you can reach | What bulk saves on wax | Honest verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10–20 candles | 2–4 kg | ₹507.40/kg on Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at the 1 kg pack | About ₹50.40 a month against 500 g packs | Take the 1 kg step; ignore everything larger |
| 60 candles | 12 kg | The same ₹507.40/kg — reached at 1 kg | ₹151.20 a month against 500 g packs | Buy bigger for freight and fewer orders, not for rate |
| 200 candles | 40 kg | ₹637.00/kg on Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 from the 5 kg pack | ₹520.00 a month if you pour CSI 468 | Worth planning around; still smaller than freight |
| 500+ candles | 100 kg | Above 10 kg in one consignment, quoted on WhatsApp | Not published — ask | The only level at which the conversation changes |
So: is buying candle wax in bulk cheaper? On Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, yes once — ₹12.60 a kilo when you leave the 500 g pack — and never again. On Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 and Natural Soy Pearl Wax, yes at the 5 kg pack, by ₹13.00 and ₹25.20 a kilo. On Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, Soy Pillar Wax, Beeswax Pellets, Premium Coconut Soy Wax, Coconut Wax, Soy Butter Wax, Fully Refined Paraffin Wax Pellets and Microcrystalline Wax Slab, no. Buy those in the size that suits your bench, your shelf and your courier bill, and put the effort you would have spent hunting a wax discount into the vessel, the scent range and the price on your own label.
One last honest note, prompted by a real review on the store in which a customer says the quality and packaging are good and asks whether there could be a discount for bulk buys in future. The published pack prices are what they are, and this page has set them out in full rather than implying a bulk rate that is not on the site. For quantities beyond the listed packs — more than 10 kg of a wax in one consignment, or a standing monthly requirement — pricing is quoted individually. Send your monthly quantities by material to WhatsApp +91 7397976926, along with any GST invoicing, MSDS or IFRA documentation you need, and ask. A run rate gets a more useful answer than a question about best price in the abstract.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA sells every wax on this page and would benefit from larger orders, which is precisely why the table above prints the per-kilo rate at every pack size rather than a claim about bulk. On nine of our twelve multi-pack waxes the bigger pack is not cheaper per kilo, and on Luxury Soy Wax Chunks the largest pack works out ₹1.90 a kilo above the smallest. If a bulk discount is what you are shopping for, most of this catalogue does not offer one, and you should buy the pack size that suits your bench instead.
Every figure here is a live CSI pack price from September 2026 divided by the weight in the pack, taxes included as stated on the Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page; the linked product pages are authoritative if anything changes. Percentages, run sizes, the 3% wastage allowance and the two-month stock ceiling are labelled assumptions rather than measured data. Pricing above 10 kg of a wax in one consignment is not published on the store and is not estimated here. Freight, storage, labels, cartons and labour are not CSI costs, are not published by CSI, and appear only as your own figures. Shelf life is quoted only where a page states it — 60 months in cool, dry storage on Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 and Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 — and grades that publish no working figures are identified as such.
Message WhatsApp +91 7397976926 for pricing beyond the listed packs, quantities above 10 kg of a wax in one consignment, GST invoicing, MSDS and IFRA documentation, or the fragrance load and working temperatures that a particular grade's page does not publish.
