A 60/40 split changes one thing: how the 28.80 kg of fragrance divides between two bottles. The wax does not move. Each scent then needs its own test candles, its own share of the loss and its own rounding to real packs, because you cannot pour half a bottle of lavender into a vanilla candle.

net Lavender + Vanilla for 1,200 + 800 candles of 180 g at 8% · book 18.0 kg + 12.5 kg with tests, loss and one changeover · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How much lavender and vanilla for a 60/40 split of 2,000 candles? At 180 g and 8%, each candle holds 14.4 g of oil. 1,200 lavender candles need 17.28 kg; 800 vanilla candles need 11.52 kg. Net total 28.80 kg.

Does the split change the wax? No. Every candle is 165.6 g of wax whatever the scent, so wax stays at 331.2 kg net for 2,000 candles. Buy it as one line.

What should I actually order? With 10 test candles per scent, 3% loss and one fragrance changeover: Lavender 18.0 kg (18 × 1 kg), Vanilla Bean 12.5 kg (12 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g) and 350 kg of wax.

What if the client means 60:40 inside every candle? Then each candle gets 8.64 g lavender and 5.76 g vanilla. The oil totals come out the same (17.28 kg and 11.52 kg), but production and testing are different. See the two readings.
The short answer
Per candle: 180 g at 8% = 14.4 g oil + 165.6 g wax. Material cost: lavender ₹254.62, vanilla ₹289.54, with Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, a White Matte Glass Jar and an Eco Thick C2 wick.
Split: 1,200 × 14.4 g = 17.28 kg lavender · 800 × 14.4 g = 11.52 kg vanilla · wax 331.2 kg for all 2,000.
Order: Lavender 18.0 kg · Vanilla Bean 12.5 kg · wax 350 kg · 2,045 jars · 2,070 wicks. At listed prices: ₹5,63,861.80.

The order splits into two fragrance lines and one wax line. Each fragrance carries its own test candles, loss and rounding; the wax is shared because every candle uses the same wax weight regardless of scent. Bottle counts include 10 test candles per scent, 3% pour loss and one changeover.
Straight answer
My client wants 60% lavender and 40% vanilla candles across a 2,000-piece order. How do I calculate separate fragrance quantities?
Split the candles first, then calculate each scent as its own small order. 60% of 2,000 is 1,200 lavender candles and 40% is 800 vanilla candles. At 180 g and an 8% load, every candle holds 14.4 g of oil and 165.6 g of wax. So lavender needs 1,200 × 14.4 g = 17.28 kg and vanilla needs 800 × 14.4 g = 11.52 kg. The wax does not split at all: 2,000 × 165.6 g = 331.2 kg, bought as one line. Then give each scent its own allowances. Each needs its own test candles (10 per scent here), its own share of pour loss (3%, a working assumption) and a little extra for the changeover between scents. Finally, round each oil up to real bottles separately: 18 × 1 kg of Lavender (18.0 kg) and 12 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g of Vanilla Bean (12.5 kg). Adding the two needs together and rounding once gives a total you cannot actually buy, because the bottles are not interchangeable. If the client means a 60:40 blend in every candle, the oil totals are the same but the testing and pouring change.
One line: 1,200 × 14.4 g lavender = 17.28 kg; 800 × 14.4 g vanilla = 11.52 kg; wax 331.2 kg unchanged.
Lavender sits first in CSI's best-selling sort and is ₹5,221.00 a kilo (₹5.22 a gram) and Vanilla Bean is ₹7,646.00 (₹7.65 a gram). For this split that is ₹93,978.00 of lavender and ₹95,592.00 of vanilla at listed prices, including tests and loss. Buy a 15 g of each first if the client has not smelled them in your wax.

Two readings of "60/40"

Before any maths, ask the client one question: do you want two kinds of candle, or one candle that smells of both?

"60% lavender and 40% vanilla" can mean two different products. Most often it means a count split: 1,200 candles that are lavender and 800 that are vanilla, perhaps for two tables at a wedding or two tiers of a corporate gift. Sometimes it means a blend: 2,000 identical candles, each scented with a 60:40 mix of the two oils. The quantities of oil you buy come out the same either way, which surprises people, but almost everything else about the job is different.

2,000 × 180 g at 8% · net figures before allowances
Count split vs blend — same oil, different job
Count split (1,200 + 800 candles) Blend (60:40 in every candle)
Lavender per candle 14.4 g in 1,200 candles; 0 g in 800 8.64 g in all 2,000
Vanilla per candle 14.4 g in 800 candles; 0 g in 1,200 5.76 g in all 2,000
Lavender total 17.28 kg 17.28 kg
Vanilla total 11.52 kg 11.52 kg
Wax total 331.2 kg 331.2 kg
Test candles At least one set per scent One set, but for the blend (plus each oil alone as a control)
Pouring Two separate runs with a changeover One run from a pre-mixed blend
Material cost per candle Lavender ₹254.62 · Vanilla ₹289.54 ₹268.58 every candle

The totals match because 60% of the candles at 14.4 g each is the same oil as 60% of 14.4 g in every candle. What differs is the product the client receives and the work you do. A blend must be tested as a blend: two oils that each smell good in your wax can behave differently together, and the load applies to the combined blend, not to each oil. Component grams are the total oil × each share, so a 14.4 g load splits into 8.64 g and 5.76 g. If the order is a blend, mix the full 28.80 kg (plus allowances) in one vessel before pouring, so every candle carries the same ratio. The 70:30 lavender-vanilla blend calculation and scaling a small test blend go further into blend maths. The rest of this page assumes a count split, which is the more common request.

Put the reading in writing
Send the client one line before you buy anything: "1,200 lavender candles and 800 vanilla candles, each 180 g" or "2,000 candles, each scented 60:40 lavender and vanilla." It costs nothing and removes the one misunderstanding that no allowance can cover.

Each scent gets its own line

Once the split is agreed, treat each scent as its own small order that happens to share wax, jars and wicks with the other. The load is a share of the finished weight, the same rule used across this series: 180 g × 8% = 14.4 g of oil; 180 − 14.4 = 165.6 g of wax. Every line below follows from those two figures.

Load = share of finished weight · 10 tests per scent · 3% pour loss (working assumption)
Net and gross, scent by scent
Line Candles Net oil + 10 tests × 1.03 loss Gross oil
Lavender 1,200 17.28 kg 17.42 kg 17.95 kg 17.95 kg
Vanilla Bean 800 11.52 kg 11.66 kg 12.01 kg 12.01 kg
Wax (both scents) 2,000 331.2 kg wax 334.5 kg wax 344.5 kg wax 344.5 kg wax

Test candles are per scent because each scent needs its own evidence. Ten lavender candles tell you nothing about how the vanilla behaves in the same jar and wick, and vanilla-type oils are the ones most commonly associated with discolouration in wax over time, which is a reason to watch the vanilla test candles for a few weeks. We do not publish colour-change data for any individual oil; a controlled test, one oil at a time, is the only way to know. Ten per scent is a working assumption. A Client Wants 1,000 Candles but Expects 20 Samples Before Final Production — Should the Sample Raw Materials be Included in My Procurement Calculation? covers what to do when the client asks for formal pre-production samples on top of your own tests.

1
Agree the reading and the candle countsCount split confirmed: 1,200 lavender and 800 vanilla, each 180 g at 8%. If the percentages do not divide the order into whole candles, round the counts first and let the percentages follow.
2
Calculate each scent's net oil from its own countLavender 1,200 × 14.4 g = 17.28 kg. Vanilla 800 × 14.4 g = 11.52 kg. Check: together 28.80 kg = 2,000 × 14.4 g.
3
Add test candles per scent10 per scent here, so 1,210 lavender and 810 vanilla candles' worth of oil. Test candles carry the full 14.4 g.
4
Apply pour loss and changeover to each scent× 1.03 for pour loss, plus half of one 500 g changeover at 8%. Lavender gross 17.97 kg; vanilla gross 12.03 kg.
5
Calculate the wax once, for every candle(2,000 + 20 tests) × 165.6 g × 1.03, plus the changeover's wax: 345.0 kg. The split never enters this line.
6
Round each line to its own packsLavender 18 × 1 kg; vanilla 12 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g; wax 35 × 10 kg. Jars and wicks follow the total candle count, not the split.
Splitting the allowance instead of the candles. A common shortcut is to calculate the whole order with one set of tests and one loss figure, then split the total 60/40. That hands the vanilla only 40% of the test candles, even though it needs a full set of its own. It also hides the changeover, which falls on whichever scent is poured second. Split the candles first, then add each scent's allowances to that scent.

Changeovers and pour sequence

Every time the melter switches scent, a little fragranced wax is lost to cleaning. Pour order decides how often that happens.

When you move from lavender to vanilla, the melter, jugs and funnel hold a film of lavender-scented wax. Pouring vanilla straight through it puts a trace of lavender into the first vanilla candles. So makers clean down, or pour the first portion of the new scent into a waste container, and that material is lost. How much depends on your equipment; we have used 500 g of fragranced wax per changeover as a labelled working assumption. Weigh your own on the first switch.

Example changeover loss 500 g of candle material each · replace with your own weighed figure
Pour sequence and what it costs
Sequence Changeovers Material lost Oil lost in it (8%)
All lavender, then all vanilla 1 500 g 40 g
Alternate by day over a 6-day run 6 3.0 kg 240 g
Alternate by tray, two a day for 6 days 12 6.0 kg 480 g

One changeover is a small loss; twelve is 6 kg of candle material and 480 g of oil. The fix costs nothing: pour one scent to completion, clean down once, then pour the other. If the client needs early deliveries of both scents, pour a first tranche of each and accept two or three changeovers, but plan them. On this page's order, one changeover is built in: 500 g of material, assigned half to each scent's oil line to be safe, which is 20 g of oil each.

The CSI principle
Split the candles, not the totals.
A scent split is two small orders sharing a wax line. Each small order has its own candles, its own tests, its own loss and its own bottles. Build it from the candle counts up, and the totals take care of themselves. Build it from the totals down, and the allowances land on the wrong scent.

Rounding each oil separately

The gross oil need, with tests, loss and the changeover, is 17.97 kg of lavender and 12.03 kg of vanilla. Together that is 30.00 kg, a suspiciously round number that invites an order of 30 one-kilo bottles, perhaps 18 lavender and 12 vanilla. That order leaves the vanilla 34 g short, because the two oils cannot cover for each other. Rounded separately, lavender needs 18 × 1 kg (33 g spare) and vanilla needs 12 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g (466 g spare): 30.5 kg in all. Separate rounding is not about buying more; it is about making sure neither scent runs out on the last tray.

The White Matte Glass Jar is listed only as a pack of 5 at ₹354.00, and its fill weight is not published. A 180 g fill is this page's example; weigh a test pour to your fill line before you commit 2,000 jars to it, and see My Jar Holds 180 g of Water — How Do I Estimate the Wax Fill Weight Before Buying Wax for 500 Jars? for the water-to-wax method. The Thick C2 wick is priced as an example only; wick size per jar is not published, so the burn test on your first 10 candles per scent decides. At 2,045 jars, the order is far beyond a handful of retail packs, so ask on WhatsApp whether it can be quoted as a single consignment.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. The vanilla line needs 12.03 kg, and the simplest order would be 13 one-kilo bottles. The last 34 g does not need a kilo. A 500 g Vanilla Bean costs ₹3,840.00 against ₹7,646.00 for another kilo, so the order above uses it and saves ₹3,806.00. The lavender remainder (967 g) is too large for a 500 g top-up, so it takes an 18th kilo. The per-gram rate barely changes between the sizes; the saving comes entirely from not buying oil you do not need.
The November–February wedding season is when two-scent orders like this one arrive with tight dates. Send the scent split and candle size on WhatsApp and we will quote wax, both oils, jars and wicks as one order, with a GST invoice and IFRA documents for each oil on request.

If the client moves the split

Clients change splits. A wedding family decides vanilla is more popular; a corporate buyer adds a department that prefers lavender. Because the wax is shared, a shift only moves oil between the two lines, and because vanilla costs more per gram, it also moves money. Every 100 candles that move from lavender to vanilla move 1,440 g of oil and add ₹3,492.00 to the oil bill.

40 / 60 800 / 1,200 11.52 kg 17.28 kg ₹1,92,268.80

Two practical rules follow. First, if the split is still being discussed, order the wax and jars now, since they are the same whatever the split, and hold the oil order until the split is signed off. That is the shared-versus-specific distinction that My Client May Increase a 1,000-Candle Order by 20% at the Last Minute — Should I Buy Additional Raw Materials Now or Wait for Confirmation? works through in detail for a quantity change. Second, if you must order oil before the split is final, order each scent to the higher of the plausible splits. Here, if the split could be anywhere from 60/40 to 50/50, order vanilla for 1,000 candles and lavender for 1,200. You will have about 2.88 kg of oil left over, but you will not be short of either scent.

If the order grows beyond two scents, the method is the same but the bookkeeping grows faster than the order. Three sizes and four scents is twelve lines, and the risk becomes counting the same wax twice. My Corporate Order Uses Three Candle Sizes and Four Fragrances — How Do I Create a Raw-Material Requirement Sheet Without Double-Counting Wax or Fragrance? sets out a matrix that keeps every line counted once. If this order shares a month with others, I Have Three Bulk Orders Happening in the Same Month — How Do I Combine Their Wax Requirements While Keeping Fragrance Oils and Packaging Quantities Separate? pools the wax across all of them while keeping each client's oils apart. And the 200 lavender, 200 rose, 100 oud split works a three-scent wedding order at 8%.

The split decides the oil. The candle size decides the wax. Keep those two decisions apart and neither goes wrong.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. On a two-scent order it would be easy to suggest rounding both oils generously. This page rounds each to the smallest set of bottles that covers it, uses the cheaper 500 g top-up where it applies, and advises holding the oil order until the client signs off the split.

Oil and wax prices are CSI live pricing, pulled on 24 September 2026; the White Matte Glass Jar price and wick prices are those verified for Blog 760 on 10 September 2026. Splits, allowances, rounding and rupee figures are arithmetic on those prices, shown to two decimals so you can check them.

The 180 g fill, the 10 test candles per scent, the 3% pour loss, the 500 g changeover loss and the 1% jar and 2% wick allowances are labelled working assumptions, not CSI specifications. We publish no throw or discolouration data for any oil. For a quote on the full order, IFRA documents for each oil, GST invoicing or MSDS, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate fragrance for two scents in one candle order?
Split the candles first, then calculate each scent separately. For 2,000 × 180 g at 8% split 60/40: 1,200 × 14.4 g = 17.28 kg lavender, 800 × 14.4 g = 11.52 kg vanilla. Add tests and loss per scent and round each to its own bottles.
How much wax for 2,000 candles of 180 g at 8%?
331.2 kg net (165.6 g each), whatever the scent split. With tests, 3% loss and one changeover, 345.0 kg, which rounds to 350 kg in Luxury Soy Wax Chunks bags.
How much lavender oil for 1,200 candles?
At 180 g and 8%, 14.4 g each: 17.28 kg net. With 10 test candles, 3% loss and half a changeover, 17.97 kg, bought as 18 × 1 kg.
What is the difference between a scent split and a fragrance blend?
A split makes two kinds of candle (e.g. 1,200 lavender, 800 vanilla). A blend makes one candle scented with both oils in a fixed ratio. The oil totals match; testing and pouring differ. A blend must be tested as a blend, and the load applies to the combined oils.
Should I round fragrance oil for each scent separately?
Yes. Bottles are not interchangeable, so each scent rounds to its own packs. Here the combined need is 30.00 kg; ordering 18 + 12 kilos to match it would leave vanilla 34 g short. Rounded separately, the bottles come to 30.5 kg.
How much does a 60/40 lavender vanilla candle order cost in fragrance?
Net oil for 2,000 × 180 g at 8% at 1 kg rates: ₹1,78,300.80. Moving to 50/50 raises it to ₹1,85,284.80, because vanilla costs more per gram. Allowances and rounding come on top.

Non-price figures and assumptions: Load is a share of finished weight: 180 g at 8% = 14.4 g oil + 165.6 g wax. Blend components = total oil × share. Working assumptions: 10 test candles per scent, 3% pour loss, 500 g of candle material lost per changeover (split equally between the two scents' oil lines), 1% jars, 2% wicks. The 180 g fill is an example; the White Matte Glass Jar's fill weight is not published. Costs exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST.
