Bulk Buying · MOQ Threshold
A 100 kg minimum order makes about 518 candles of 200 g. Whether that is a bargain or a burden depends on how many months it sits on your shelf, what the cash could do instead, and whether the wax has passed your test.
173
candles a month (200 g, 8%) to use 100 kg inside a 3-month holding horizon · example horizon, replace with yours
Quick answers — read this first
What volume justifies a 100 kg MOQ? About 173 candles of 200 g a month if you hold stock for three months (100 kg ÷ 3 = 33.3 kg a month). At a two-month horizon it is about 259.

How many candles does 100 kg make? About 518 at 8% load, with 184 g of wax per candle plus a 5% working allowance (193.2 g bought per candle).

Does CSI have a 100 kg MOQ price? No. Bags stop at 10 kg (Natural Soy Pearl at 50 kg). 100 kg of Soy Pearl is ₹42,480.00 as 10 × 10 kg or 2 × 50 kg — the same ₹424.80/kg as the 5 kg bag. Larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp.

What is a ₹40/kg discount worth per candle? About ₹7.73 per 200 g candle. See the per-candle table.
The short answer
Answer: Divide 100 kg by your holding horizon. At three months you need ≈33.3 kg a month, about 173 candles of 200 g at 8%.
Cash check: Saving on 100 kg must beat half the lot's value × your monthly cost of money × months to use it. Usually the horizon binds first.
Quality check: Bench test 4 control + 4 candidate candles, then a 10 kg pilot, before any MOQ. Is 1 kg of testing enough?.
How long does a 100 kg MOQ sit on your shelf? 200 g candle · 8% load · 184 g wax + 5% loss = 193.2 g wax bought per saleable candle · example holding horizon 3 months 0 mo 2 mo 4 mo 6 mo 8 mo 10 mo 12 mo 50 candles/month 9.7 kg wax 10.4 months 100 candles/month 19.3 kg wax 5.2 months 173 candles/month 33.4 kg wax 3.0 months — inside horizon 250 candles/month 48.3 kg wax 2.1 months — inside horizon 500 candles/month 96.6 kg wax 1.0 months — inside horizon 750 candles/month 144.9 kg wax 0.7 months — inside horizon your horizon (example: 3 months) Threshold = 100 kg ÷ horizon. At 3 months: 33.3 kg a month ≈ 173 candles of 200 g. Below that, the MOQ is a storage decision, not a saving — check the cash test and the CSI 10 kg bag price before you sign.
Months to use one 100 kg lot at six production levels, for a 200 g candle at 8% (193.2 g of wax bought per candle). Bars inside the dashed line clear an example three-month holding horizon; the threshold is 33.3 kg a month, about 173 candles. Replace the horizon with your own.
Straight answer
My soy wax supplier has a 100 kg MOQ for wholesale pricing — what monthly candle volume would justify that purchase?
Roughly 173 candles of 200 g a month — if you are willing to hold one wax lot for three months. A 200 g candle at 8% fragrance load takes 184 g of wax; with a 5% working allowance for pour loss and tests you buy 193.2 g per saleable candle, so 100 kg makes about 518 candles. The threshold is 100 kg ÷ your holding horizon: 33.3 kg a month at three months, 50 kg at two. Then check the cash: at an example ₹40/kg discount and an example 1.5% monthly cost of money, the lot could sit 11.4 months before carrying cost eats the ₹4,000.00 saving — so the horizon, not the interest, usually decides. Finally, compare the quote with the best listed small-pack price: Natural Soy Pearl Wax is already ₹424.80/kg from 5 kg, and 100 kg costs ₹42,480.00 as ten 10 kg bags. Never let the MOQ lot be your first large batch of an untested wax.
One line: convert the MOQ into candles and months first; the rupees come last.
Before you sign a 100 kg minimum order anywhere, price the real alternative: Natural Soy Pearl Wax is already ₹424.80 a kilo from the 5 kg bag up, and 100 kg of it costs ₹42,480.00 whether you take 10 × 10 kg or 2 × 50 kg. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is a flat ₹507.40 a kilo at 1, 5 and 10 kg. A wholesale quote only saves you money if it beats those numbers — and only if you use the wax up inside your holding horizon.

The short answer: about 173 candles a month, if you hold stock for three months

An MOQ is not a price. It is a promise to store, finance and use a quantity of wax before it becomes a problem.

A supplier who says "wholesale price from 100 kg" is offering you a lower rate in exchange for three things: your cash today, your shelf space for months, and your commitment that this wax will still be the right wax when you reach the bottom of the pile. The discount is the only one of those four numbers printed on the quote. The rest you have to work out, and the most useful way to do it is to turn 100 kg into candles and months.

At the default candle used throughout this cluster — 200 g finished weight at an 8% fragrance load, which is 16 g of oil and 184 g of wax — every saleable candle needs 184 g of wax plus a 5% allowance for pour loss and test burns (a working assumption). That is 193.2 g of wax bought per candle sold. One 100 kg MOQ therefore makes about 518 candles. Divide that by your monthly production and you know how many months the lot will sit.

Now choose the longest you are willing to hold one wax lot — your holding horizon. It is a business choice, not a chemistry fact. Three months is the example on this page because it covers one festive cycle and still leaves room to change course; your number may be two or six. The threshold volume is then simply 100 kg ÷ horizon. At three months that is 33.3 kg a month, which at 193.2 g a candle is about 173 candles a month. Below that, the MOQ ties up stock for longer than you planned. Above it, the remaining questions are cash and quality, and both have their own tests below.

The CSI principle
Translate every MOQ into candles and months before you translate it into rupees.
100 kg of wax is about 518 candles of 200 g. If that is more than a horizon's worth of production, the discount is buying you a storage problem.

100 kg in candles and months: the volume table

The table below converts common production levels into monthly wax and into how long a 100 kg lot lasts. The candle maths uses the CSI convention — fragrance load is a share of the finished weight, so oil = 200 g × 8% and wax is what is left — and the 5% allowance covers pour loss and the occasional test candle. If you pour 180 g or run 10%, rerun the numbers; the method does not change.

200 g candle · 8% load · 193.2 g wax bought per candle (5% working allowance)
How long one 100 kg MOQ lasts at your monthly volume
Candles per month Wax per month Months to use 100 kg Inside a 3-month horizon?
50 9.7 kg 10.4 No
100 19.3 kg 5.2 No
173 33.4 kg 3.0 Yes
250 48.3 kg 2.1 Yes
500 96.6 kg 1.0 Yes
750 144.9 kg 0.7 Yes

Two things stand out. At 50 or 100 candles a month — a busy home studio — a 100 kg lot lasts five to ten months. That is not wholesale buying; that is a year's inventory sitting in your spare room through a monsoon and a summer. At 250 candles a month and above, 100 kg is a two-month supply or less, and the question turns from "can I use it?" into "why am I still buying in small bags?" — which is the 100 kg-per-month purchasing-rhythm question. The crossover in the middle is where your horizon decides.

Threshold = 100 kg ÷ holding horizon · horizon is your business choice
The minimum monthly volume for a 100 kg MOQ, by holding horizon
Holding horizon Minimum wax per month Minimum candles per month (200 g) Who this suits
1 month 100.0 kg 518 Lean, cash-tight; reorders monthly
2 months 50.0 kg 259 Steady seller with limited storage
3 months (example) 33.3 kg 173 One season of cover, room to change wax
4 months 25.0 kg 129 Building festive stock early
6 months 16.7 kg 86 Only with dry, cool storage and a proven wax
Set the horizon before you see the discount
Write your holding horizon on the purchasing sheet before the supplier's quote arrives. If you decide it after seeing ₹40 off a kilo, it will stretch to whatever makes the deal look good. The procurement-system capstone makes the horizon a fixed input, alongside lead time and safety stock.

The cash test: does the discount outrun the cost of carrying the stock?

Wax on a shelf is money that cannot buy fragrance, jars or a festive ad.

The supplier's discount is a saving you bank once. The cost of holding the stock runs every month the wax sits unused. A simple, honest way to compare them is to treat the average stock as half the lot (because you use it down steadily from full to empty) and to charge it a monthly cost of money. The cost of money is your own: the interest on a working-capital loan, or what that cash would earn in the business. This page uses 1.5% a month as an example rate — replace it with yours.

With the reader's price taken as ₹507.40 a kilo (the flat CSI 464 rate, used here as the price you pay today) and three example discounts — ₹20, ₹40 and ₹60 a kilo, labelled as examples because the title does not give one — the break-even holding time is 2 × discount ÷ ((price − discount) × monthly rate). Past that many months, carrying the stock has eaten the saving.

Example discounts and example 1.5%/month cost of money — replace both with your quote and your rate
How long a 100 kg lot can sit before the discount is gone
Example discount Saving on 100 kg Break-even holding time Minimum use to beat it ≈ candles per month
₹20/kg ₹2,000.00 5.5 months 18.3 kg / month 95
₹40/kg ₹4,000.00 11.4 months 8.8 kg / month 45
₹60/kg ₹6,000.00 17.9 months 5.6 kg / month 29

At a ₹40 discount the cash test is generous: the lot could sit for 11.4 months before carrying cost cancels the ₹4,000.00 saving. At ₹20 it is tighter — 5.5 months, or about 95 candles a month. In most realistic cases the horizon test binds first: you would not want to hold one lot for eleven months even if the interest maths allowed it, because storage, demand and your own formulation can all change in that time. Use whichever threshold is higher. With a three-month horizon and any of these discounts, that is the 173-candle figure.

The mistake: counting the saving on the whole 100 kg in the first month. A maker sees ₹4,000.00 off and books it as this month's margin. But at 100 candles a month the last kilo of that lot is used in month 5; the saving arrives a few hundred grams at a time, while the cash left on day one. Fix: spread the saving over the months it takes to use the lot, and compare it with what the same ₹46,740.00 would have done in the business over those months. The 25 kg today or 100 kg at a discount post runs that month-by-month cash comparison in full.

What 100 kg actually costs at CSI — and why our bags are not an MOQ

It is worth checking what the alternative to the MOQ really is, because many makers compare a wholesale quote with their old 1 kg price rather than with the best small-pack price they could get. CSI's container soy waxes are listed in bags up to 10 kg, and Natural Soy Pearl Wax also comes in a 50 kg bag. There is no 25 kg carton and no 100 kg pack on the store, and no volume discount figure is published — larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp. Here is 100 kg of each container soy wax, built only from listed packs.

100 kg from listed packs · CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026
100 kg of CSI container soy wax, cheapest listed combination
Wax Packs for 100 kg Total Per kg Compared with its 1 kg bag
Natural Soy Pearl Wax 10 × 10 kg (or 2 × 50 kg, same price) ₹42,480.00 ₹424.80 ₹2,520.00 less than 100 × 1 kg (5.6%)
Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 10 × 10 kg ₹50,740.00 ₹507.40 Same per kg — no bulk break
Luxury Soy Wax Chunks 20 × 5 kg ₹59,900.00 ₹599.00 10 × 10 kg costs ₹59,990.00 — ₹90.00 more
Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 10 × 10 kg ₹63,700.00 ₹637.00 ₹13.00/kg less than the 1 kg bag

Read that table as a reader, not as a seller. Only Natural Soy Pearl has a real step, and it happens at 5 kg, not at 100 kg: ₹450.00 a kilo in the 1 kg bag, ₹424.80 from 5 kg up, and exactly the same ₹424.80 in the 50 kg bag. CSI 464 is flat from 1 kg. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are fractionally dearer per kilo in the 10 kg bag than in two 5 kg bags. So at CSI, a maker using 33 kg a month gets the lowest listed rate by buying 10 kg or 5 kg bags as needed — no MOQ, no 100 kg on the shelf. If you need more than the listed packs, ask on WhatsApp; we will quote, and we do not publish a discount figure.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. It would suit us to tell you to take 100 kg of Natural Soy Pearl in two 50 kg bags and lock in the price. On the listed catalogue that buys you nothing per kilo over ten 10 kg bags or twenty 5 kg bags — all three cost ₹42,480.00. Smaller bags stay sealed until you need them, rotate more easily and are easier to lift. If your monthly use is below about 173 candles, buy the 5 kg or 10 kg bag each month and keep your cash.

The quality test: never let an MOQ be your first large batch

A wholesale offer often comes from a supplier — or a wax — you have not used at scale. The MOQ maths is meaningless if the wax does not perform in your jar, with your oil, at your load. So the qualification comes first, and it is cheap compared with the lot. The minimum is a matched bench comparison: four candles in your current, approved wax as the control and four in the candidate wax, same oil lot, same wick, same jar, same pour day. Three of each are burned; one of each goes on the shelf for storage and appearance. These counts are labelled working practice, not a standard. Whether 1 kg of successful testing is enough before ordering 100 kg and the 5 kg or 10 kg production trial set out the stages that follow.

1
Pour 4 control + 4 candidate candles on the same dayExample: control in CSI 464, candidate in Natural Soy Pearl, both at 8% Jasmine (16 g oil + 184 g wax per 200 g candle), Eco Thin C1 wicks, White Matte jars. Follow each wax maker's own temperatures; CSI 464's product page lists an 80–90°C melt/pour working range, and Natural Soy Pearl's page publishes no temperature, so ask on WhatsApp.
2
Weigh, label and cure identicallyWeigh every candle to 0.1 g, write wax, pour date and candle number on the base, and cure both sets to the same checkpoint — 48 hours, 7 days or 14 days are labelled examples used across this series.
3
Burn in matched pairsLight one control and one candidate together in the same room, 3–4 hours per cycle with full cool-down between (a commonly used cycle — label it as yours), and fill the scoring sheet below after every burn.
4
Take one of each to the endOne candle per wax burns to the end of usable wax. Problems from a wax change often appear in the lower third, closer to the glass.
5
Run a pilot before the MOQIf the candidate passes, make one production-size pilot — a 10 kg bag makes about 52 candles at 193.2 g each — and burn three candles from it (first, middle and last poured) against control.
6
Only then sign the 100 kg orderSign when the bench test, the pilot, the horizon test and the cash test all pass. If any fails, the discount was never real for you.

CSI publishes no numeric flame-height or jar-temperature limit, and none is invented here. The acceptance standard is: no worse than your approved control on every safety line, and within your jar supplier's guidance and the candle fire-safety standard you work to. A cheaper wax that throws harder but heats the glass more has not passed — the discount never buys a hotter jar.

The priced bench kit and the per-candle saving

Here is the eight-candle comparison priced with CSI's listed packs. Each wax needs 736 g for four candles, or 772.8 g with the 5% allowance — one 1 kg bag of each. The oil is shared so that a lot difference cannot hide in the comparison: eight candles need 128 g of Jasmine, 134.4 g with the allowance.

Jasmine Fragrance Oil 134.4 g 1 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g ₹660.00
Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 8 + 2 spare 1 × 10 ₹59.00
White Matte Glass Jar 8 jars 2 packs of 5 ₹708.00
Bench kit total ₹2,384.40

Now the per-candle view, because that is where a wholesale discount actually lands. At the 10 kg rate, a 200 g Jasmine candle in CSI 464 carries ₹93.36 of wax, ₹62.77 of oil (1 kg rate), ₹5.90 for the wick and ₹70.80 for the jar: ₹232.83 in materials, excluding labour, packaging, freight and GST. In Natural Soy Pearl at the 5 kg-and-up rate the wax line is ₹78.16 and the candle is ₹217.63. With an example 3% reject rate (replace with yours) the cost per saleable candle is ₹240.03 and ₹224.36.

Wax saving per candle = 184 g × discount ÷ 1,000 · example discounts
What a per-kilo discount is worth per 200 g candle
Example discount Per candle (184 g in the jar) Per candle bought (193.2 g) Share of the CSI 464 candle's materials
₹20/kg ₹3.68 ₹3.86 1.7%
₹40/kg ₹7.36 ₹7.73 3.3%
₹60/kg ₹11.04 ₹11.59 5.0%

A ₹40 discount is worth about ₹7.73 per candle. That is real money over a year, but it is smaller than the jar, smaller than the oil, and about the size of one wick plus change. If an MOQ forces you to hold stock you cannot sell, or to switch wax without a test, a single batch of rejected candles erases months of that saving. How many candles before a ₹40-per-kg saving becomes meaningful takes this per-candle figure and turns it into a payback count.

The decision rule: four gates, then a concrete order

Apply the gates in order. Each one is a yes/no that two people would answer the same way from the same numbers. If any gate is a no, do not take the MOQ — buy the cheapest listed pack each month instead and revisit when your volume grows.

Working decision rule · thresholds are your inputs, not standards
Should I take the 100 kg MOQ?
Gate Question This example passes when If no
1 · Horizon Will 100 kg be used inside my holding horizon? ≥ 33.3 kg a month (≈ 173 candles) at a 3-month horizon Buy monthly in 5 kg / 10 kg bags
2 · Cash Does the discount beat carrying cost over that time? Saving on 100 kg > half the lot's value × your rate × months Negotiate a smaller MOQ or stay small
3 · Quality Has this exact wax passed bench + pilot against control? No worse than control on every safety line; within tolerance on quality lines Test first — 5466, 5467
4 · Storage Can I keep 100 kg cool, dry, sealed and rotated? Space for ten 10 kg bags off the floor, away from sun and damp See storing 100 kg through an Indian summer
5 · Compare Is the quote below the best listed small-pack price? Below ₹424.80/kg (Soy Pearl) or the flat rate of your approved wax The MOQ is not a discount at all

In this worked example, a maker producing 200 Jasmine candles a month uses 38.6 kg of wax, so 100 kg lasts 2.6 months — inside a three-month horizon. If Natural Soy Pearl passes the bench test and the pilot, the concrete order is Natural Soy Pearl Wax, 10 × 10 kg = ₹42,480.00 at the listed ₹424.80 a kilo, delivered as ten sealed bags that are opened one at a time. A supplier's MOQ quote would need to come in below that per kilo, after shipping, to be worth considering. A maker at 100 candles a month should not take any 100 kg MOQ: buy Natural Soy Pearl 2 × 10 kg a month (₹8,496.00) — the same per-kilo price with five months less wax on the shelf.

The best wholesale price is the one you can use up before the wax, the market or your recipe changes.

Where the rest of the bulk-buying cluster picks up

This page decides whether a 100 kg minimum is justified by volume. The neighbouring posts each take one adjacent decision: the payback count for a ₹40 saving, cash now versus unit cost, reorder points for a fast-growing business, safety stock when use swings from 30 to 80 kg and the full procurement system. Using a different CSI wax? The volume and cash maths are identical; only the price line changes. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks is ₹598–₹599.90 a kilo across its bags and rated up to 13%. Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 is ₹637–₹650 a kilo; CSI's product page states a 50–53°C melting point and up to 13% fragrance load. Neither has a listed pack above 10 kg. The full range is in Candle Wax.
Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. A wax seller is supposed to love big orders. We would rather you bought the quantity you can use: on our listed catalogue the only soy-wax pack-size saving is Natural Soy Pearl's 5.6% step at 5 kg, and 100 kg of it costs exactly the same in 10 kg bags as in 50 kg bags.

Wax prices are CSI live pricing, re-checked on 1 October 2026 (unchanged from the 24 September pull). Oil prices are CSI live pricing pulled 24 September 2026; wick and jar prices were verified 10 September 2026. Candle splits, months of cover, break-even holding times and per-candle costs are plain arithmetic, shown to two decimals so you can check them.

The 100 kg MOQ is the reader's figure. The ₹20, ₹40 and ₹60 discounts, the 1.5% monthly cost of money, the three-month horizon, the 5% allowance and the 3% reject rate are labelled examples you replace with your own. Frequently asked questions

How many candles can I make from 100 kg of soy wax?
About 518 candles of 200 g at 8% fragrance load, allowing 5% for pour loss and tests. Without the allowance it is 543. Lower loads or smaller candles raise the count — rerun the 184 g figure for your recipe.
Is it worth buying soy wax in 100 kg quantities?
Only if you use it within your holding horizon and the discount beats the carrying cost. At a three-month horizon that means ≈173 candles of 200 g a month. Below that, buy the best listed small pack monthly.
What is MOQ in wax buying?
Minimum order quantity: the smallest order a supplier will accept at a given price. It is a condition on the price, not a saving in itself — compare it with the best per-kg price you can get without the minimum.
Does CSI sell soy wax in 25 kg or 100 kg packs?
No listed 25 kg or 100 kg pack. Container soy wax bags go up to 10 kg, and Natural Soy Pearl Wax to 50 kg (limited stock). Larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp; no discount figure is published.
How long can I store soy wax?
CSI's product pages state a 60-month shelf life in cool, dry storage for Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 and Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468; no shelf life is published for the other soy waxes. Storage horizon in business terms is usually much shorter. Storing 100 kg through an Indian summer covers conditions.
Should I test a new wax before a bulk order?
Yes. Run 4 control + 4 candidate candles, then a production-size pilot, before committing to an MOQ. The 5 kg or 10 kg production trial post sets out the pilot.
Volume first, discount second
Work out your months of cover. Then buy the bag size that fits them.

Non-price figures and assumptions: CSI convention: fragrance load is a share of finished weight (200 g at 8% = 16 g oil + 184 g wax). The 100 kg MOQ is the reader's figure. Example discounts (₹20/₹40/₹60 per kg), the 1.5% monthly cost of money, the three-month holding horizon, the 5% pour/test allowance, the 3% reject rate and 4 + 4 test candles are labelled working assumptions. Average stock is taken as half the lot. Shelf life of 60 months is quoted from CSI's product pages for CSI 464 and CSI 468 only. Material costs exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November.
