Corporate orders · Fragrance oil by the kilogram
At 2,000 candles, a one-gram mistake per candle is two kilograms of oil. The maths is four multiplications, but the conventions around it — what the load is a percentage of, grams or millilitres, how much to add — decide whether you order the right amount.
33.16 kg
fragrance oil to order for 2,000 candles of 200 g at 8%, with 12 test candles and a 3% allowance · ₹1,72,780.00 in Lemongrass and Lime · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How do I calculate kilograms of oil? Candles × finished weight (g) × load ÷ 1,000. 2,000 × 200 × 0.08 ÷ 1,000 = 32.0 kg in the candles. Then add test candles and an allowance.

How much should I actually order? With 12 test and approval candles and a 3% allowance: 33.16 kg. In Lemongrass and Lime that is 33 × 1 kg + 2 × 100 g = ₹1,72,780.00.

CSI only lists 1 kg bottles — what do I do? Either order 33 bottles of 1 kg from the listing, or message CSI on WhatsApp for a quote on the whole quantity. No volume discount figure is published, so ask — and confirm stock before you promise a date.

What is the most common mistake? Taking 8% of the wax weight instead of the total. That gives 14.81 g a candle, not 16 g — 2.37 kg less oil across 2,000 candles. See the convention trap.
The short answer
Formula: kg of oil = candles × finished weight (g) × load ÷ 1,000, then + test candles, then × (1 + allowance). Load is a share of the total finished weight.
This order: 2,000 × 200 g × 8% = 32.0 kg; + 12 tests (192 g); × 1.03 = 33.16 kg.
Buying it: Lemongrass and Lime ₹1,72,780.00 · Cucumber Green Tea ₹1,10,516.44 · Dark Vanilla ₹2,53,898.00 for the same 33.2 kg. Above 1 kg per bottle, ask on WhatsApp.
Kilograms of fragrance oil for 2,000 candles — the four multiplications 2,000 candles × 200 g finished weight × 8% load, of total weight = 32.0 kg in the candles + 12 test and approval candles (192 g) + 3% allowance = 33.16 kg to order Lemongrass and Lime: 33 × 1 kg + 2 × 100 g = ₹1,72,780.00 — or ask for a quote above the 1 kg listing Watch the convention: 8% of WAX weight instead of total weight gives 14.81 g a candle — 2.37 kg less oil on 2,000. Oil is sold and weighed by the gram. Do the maths in grams, not millilitres.
The four boxes are the whole calculation for oil inside the candles. Everything below the dashed line is what turns it into an order: a count of extra candles, a small percentage, and a decision about how to buy above the listed 1 kg bottle. The convention line is the error to rule out before you order.
Straight answer
A corporate customer wants 2,000 candles in one fragrance — how do I calculate how many kilograms of fragrance oil I need before placing the raw-material order?
Multiply four numbers: candles × finished candle weight in grams × fragrance load ÷ 1,000. For 2,000 candles of 200 g at 8%, that is 32.0 kg of oil inside the candles. Add the oil for test and approval candles (12 candles, 192 g) and a small allowance for what stays in bottles and jugs — on a single-oil repeat run, 3% is a reasonable working figure — and the order is 33.16 kg. Two conventions decide whether that number is right. The load must be a share of the total finished weight (16 g in 200 g), not of the wax weight, or you under-order by 2.37 kg. And the maths must be in grams, because oil is sold and weighed by the gram. CSI lists oils up to 1 kg per bottle: for Lemongrass and Lime the order is 33 × 1 kg and 2 × 100 g for ₹1,72,780.00, or ask on WhatsApp for a quote on the whole quantity and a stock check. No volume discount figure is published. Then test the bulk batch against your approved sample before production.
One line: candles × grams × load, in grams, on the total weight — then tests, then 3%.
Oil for 2,000 candles of 200 g at 8%: Lemongrass and Lime 33 × 1 kg (₹5,200.00) + 2 × 100 g (₹590.00) = ₹1,72,780.00 for 33.2 kg. For quantities above the listed 1 kg bottle, and to confirm stock of 33 kg of one oil, message CSI on WhatsApp.
Buy Lemongrass and Lime

The four multiplications

Kilograms of oil is not a feel. It is candles × grams × load.

The scenario: a company wants 2,000 identical candles for staff and client gifts, all in one fresh scent. You have poured an approved sample: 200 g finished weight, Lemongrass and Lime at 8%, in Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (rated up to 10% fragrance load — the wax maker's stated formulation maximum). Before you place the raw-material order, you need one number: how many kilograms of oil.

Lead table · the calculation, step by step
From one candle to the kilograms you order
Step Calculation Result Why
1 · Oil per candle 200 g × 8% 16 g load is a share of the finished candle
2 · Oil in the order 16 g × 2,000 32,000 g = 32.0 kg what the customer's candles contain
3 · Add test candles 16 g × 12 192 g → 32.19 kg approval samples, burn tests, reference
4 · Add the allowance × 1.03 33,157.8 g = 33.16 kg film in bottles, jugs and melter (3%, a working assumption)
5 · Round to packs 33 × 1 kg (₹5,200.00) + 2 × 100 g (₹590.00) 33.2 kg · ₹1,72,780.00 in-stock sizes; larger quantities quoted on WhatsApp

Every number in step 1 comes from your approved sample, not from a jar's printed capacity. Weigh the finished sample candle and subtract the empty jar. If your sample came out at 196 g, the order is 2% smaller; at 205 g, 2.5% larger. On 2,000 candles those are kilograms, not grams. The 100-candle post walks through the one-candle bill of materials if you haven't built one yet.

Write the recipe as grams per candle
Put "16.0 g oil + 184.0 g wax per candle" at the top of the production sheet, not "8%". Percentages invite people to re-derive them differently. Grams per candle are unambiguous, and they're what a scale reads.

Kilograms by candle size and load

If the customer hasn't fixed the candle size or the load yet, you still need a working figure to budget with. The grid gives kilograms of oil for exactly 2,000 candles — before tests and allowance — at three loads and four finished weights.

2,000 candles · oil inside the candles only · add tests and allowance before ordering
Kilograms of fragrance oil for 2,000 candles
Finished weight 6% load 8% load 10% load
100 g 12.0 kg 16.0 kg 20.0 kg
150 g 18.0 kg 24.0 kg 30.0 kg
200 g 24.0 kg 32.0 kg 40.0 kg
250 g 30.0 kg 40.0 kg 50.0 kg

Two things fall out of the grid. First, candle size moves the oil order as much as load does: going from 150 g to 200 g at 8% adds 8 kg, the same as going from 8% to 10% at 200 g. Second, the range is wide — 12 kg to 50 kg — so don't order until both numbers are signed off. The load ceiling belongs to the wax: CSI 464 is rated up to 10% and Luxury Soy Wax Chunks up to 13%. Higher load is not automatically stronger scent in the room; premium fragrance at a low candle price looks at where load is worth paying for.

2,000 × 200 g at 8% · Lemongrass and Lime · in-stock packs
What the allowance does to the order
Allowance Oil to order Packs Cost
0% 32.19 kg 32 × 1 kg (₹5,200.00) + 2 × 100 g (₹590.00) ₹1,67,580.00
3% 33.16 kg 33 × 1 kg (₹5,200.00) + 2 × 100 g (₹590.00) ₹1,72,780.00
5% 33.80 kg 34 × 1 kg (₹5,200.00) ₹1,76,800.00

The convention trap: % of what?

Two makers can both say "8%" and order different amounts of oil.

There are two ways people express fragrance load. The one used throughout CSI's guides is a share of the total finished weight: 8% of a 200 g candle is 16 g of oil and 184 g of wax. The other is a share of the wax weight: 8% of the wax, added on top. For a 200 g candle that works out to 185.19 g of wax and 14.81 g of oil — 1.19 g less oil per candle.

200 g finished candle · same '8%' in two conventions
The same word, two different orders
Convention Oil per candle Wax per candle Oil for 2,000 candles Difference
8% of total weight (this page) 16.00 g 184.00 g 32.00 kg —
8% of wax weight 14.81 g 185.19 g 29.63 kg 2.37 kg less oil

Neither convention is wrong, but mixing them is. If your sample was poured at 8% of total weight and your production sheet says 8% of wax, the production candles are weaker than the sample the customer approved — and you'll have ordered 2.37 kg less oil than the approved recipe needs. The reverse mistake leaves you with oil on the shelf and a load above what you tested. Check which convention your approval sample used, write it on the sheet, and state wax ceilings in the same terms.

Millilitres are the other trap. Fragrance oil is sold by weight and its density is not the same as water's, so 32 litres is not 32 kg. The density of an individual oil isn't in our data; if you must convert, ask for the oil's documentation on WhatsApp. Better: never convert. Recipe in grams, order in grams, pour by weighing.

Tests and allowance on a single-oil run

On a 2,000-candle run in one oil, the allowance can be smaller than on a first order or a blend. There is no blending step, the recipe is fixed, and you pour from the same few containers all run long. Plan 3–5% extra for pour loss and test burns as a working assumption; at this scale, with a repeat recipe, 3% is reasonable. Test candles are counted, not percentaged: here 12 — four approval and reference candles, and eight burn tests spread through the run.

The difference between 3% and 5% on this order is 0.64 kg of oil and ₹4,020.00. The difference between 0% and 3% is the difference between finishing the run and being about 60 candles' worth of oil short. The wedding-order post breaks the extra oil into its separate uses when development trials are involved; the Diwali post does the same for wax.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. The kilo bottle is not cheaper per gram for most oils — but for Lemongrass and Lime it is: ₹5.20 a gram at 500 g and 1 kg against ₹5.90 at 100 g, an 11.9% saving. Buying this order in 100 g bottles would cost ₹1,95,880.00 against ₹1,72,780.00. For an oil where the per-gram price is flat, like Sandalwood or Wild Berries, bottle size wouldn't change the bill — only how many bottles you open. Check which kind your oil is before assuming bulk saves money.

Ordering 33 kg when the listing stops at 1 kg

CSI's store lists fragrance oils up to a 1 kg bottle. For this order that means 33 bottles of 1 kg and 2 of 100 g, which you can add to a cart like any other order. For a quantity this size it makes sense to message CSI on WhatsApp first: to confirm there are 33 kg of the oil in stock, to ask whether the whole quantity can come from one production batch, and for a quote. Volume pricing beyond the listed packs is quoted there; no discount figure is published, so don't build one into your customer's price.

1
Confirm the recipe in gramsFrom the weighed approval sample: 16.0 g oil, 184.0 g wax, per 200 g candle. Note the load convention.
2
Multiply and add16 g × 2,000 = 32.0 kg; + 12 test candles; × 1.03 = 33.16 kg.
3
Check stock before the customer's dateMessage CSI on WhatsApp with the oil and 33.2 kg. A listed price is not a promise of 33 kg on the shelf.
4
Ask for one batch and the paperworkAsk whether the whole quantity can ship from one batch, and request the IFRA certificate and MSDS for the oil with the order.
5
Test the delivered oil against the samplePour two candles from the delivered oil before production and compare them with the approved sample. I Need Several Kilograms of One Fragrance for a Corporate Order — Should I Test the Bulk Fragrance Batch Against My Original Sample Before Production? covers how.
6
Store it wellSealed, cool, dark, away from the melter. Follow the storage guidance on the oil's product page or ask CSI.
The rest of the order · 200 g at 8% · 2,012 units · 3% allowance
Wax for the same 2,000 candles

Oil + wax ₹3,66,359.40

Jars, wicks and packaging follow the same method; the 5,000-candle post builds the complete bill of materials for a run in one jar, and which materials to secure first covers ordering sequence when the date is tight.

The CSI principle
At 2,000 candles, every gram per candle is two kilograms.
Weigh the approved sample, fix the convention, work in grams, count the test candles and keep the allowance small and honest. Then check stock before you check the price.

What the oil choice does to the bill

The kilograms don't change with the scent; the rupees do. The same 33.2 kg costs ₹1,10,516.44 in Cucumber Green Tea, ₹1,72,780.00 in Lemongrass and Lime and ₹2,53,898.00 in Dark Vanilla. Per candle at the 1 kg rate, that's ₹53.24, ₹83.20 and ₹122.34 of fragrance. On a corporate order, that spread is often bigger than the margin you're negotiating over — so settle the oil before you settle the price.

Two neighbouring questions: how much of the rest of the inventory to hold before production (the 500-candle post) and how much spare oil to keep against rejects and supplier delays when the delivery date can't move (strict-deadline buffers).

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. For most oils we tell you the kilo bottle is not cheaper per gram. Here we name the exception — Lemongrass and Lime saves 11.9% at 1 kg — and say plainly that the listing stops at 1 kg, that larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp, and that no discount figure is published.

Oil and wax prices are CSI live pricing pulled on 24 September 2026. Pack combinations use in-stock sizes only. The kilogram grid, the convention comparison and every total are arithmetic you can repeat.

The 200 g weight, 8% load, 12 test candles and 3% allowance are working assumptions for this example. Oil density is not in our data; work in grams. For a stock check on a large single-oil quantity, a quote, GST invoicing, MSDS or the IFRA certificate, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

how to calculate fragrance oil in kg for candles
Candles × finished candle weight in grams × load ÷ 1,000. For 2,000 candles of 200 g at 8%: 2,000 × 200 × 0.08 ÷ 1,000 = 32.0 kg. Then add oil for test candles and a small allowance (3–5% as a working assumption).
how much fragrance oil for 2000 candles
At 200 g and 8%, 32.0 kg in the candles, 33.16 kg with 12 tests and 3%. At 150 g and 8%, 24.0 kg; at 200 g and 10%, 40.0 kg. See the grid.
is fragrance load a percentage of wax or total weight
Both conventions are used. CSI's guides use total finished weight (16 g in a 200 g candle at 8%). As a share of wax weight, the same '8%' gives 14.81 g. Use whichever your approved sample used, and write it on the production sheet.
can I buy more than 1 kg of fragrance oil from CSI
The store lists oils up to a 1 kg bottle, and you can order several. For larger quantities, message CSI on WhatsApp for a stock check and a quote. No volume discount figure is published.
how do I convert fragrance oil from ml to grams
You need the oil's density, which varies by oil and isn't in our data — ask for the documentation on WhatsApp. Simpler and more accurate: do the whole calculation in grams and weigh, because oil is sold by weight.
is it cheaper to buy fragrance oil in 1 kg bottles
For most oils, no — 52 of 91 oils that list both sizes cost within 1% per gram at 100 g and 1 kg. For 24 oils the 1 kg saves 5% or more, Lemongrass and Lime (11.9%) among them. Check the per-gram price for your oil.
