What candle dyes does CSI sell? Buy the colourant that matches the job, then buy it in the size that matches your usage. Twenty-five listings in the Candle Dyes collection come down to three products that behave differently in wax: a liquid, a solid and a powder.
A wholesale dye order starts with sorting the range properly, because the three families are not substitutes for each other. Liquid dye dissolves into melted wax and colours the whole candle. Dye chips do the same from a solid form. Mica is a shimmering mineral powder that sits in or on the wax rather than dissolving, which is why it is used differently. Within liquid dye there are also two price ladders — one sold in grams, one in millilitres — and that matters for both cost and weighing.

Three details in that table change a wholesale order. First, the gram line and the ml line are priced differently at 50 and 100: 100 gm of Blue is ₹900, 100 ml of Orange is ₹1,062. If your palette mixes both, cost the two lines separately. Second, chip packs have no stated weight, so you cannot compare a ₹250 chip pack with a ₹236 liquid bottle on the page alone — weigh a pack on arrival or ask on WhatsApp. Third, on Gold, Pink and Purple mica the 50 g pack is cheaper per gram than the 100 g (₹10.60 against ₹11.20), so two 50 g packs (₹1,059.64) cost ₹60.18 less than one 100 g (₹1,119.82).
The mistake: treating 100 ml and 100 g as the same amount. A dye sold in millilitres and a dye sold in grams are measured differently, and no CSI dye page states a density to convert one into the other. If your recipe card says "0.2 g of Orange", weigh it; do not pour 0.2 ml and hope. Once, when a new bottle arrives, weigh 10 ml of it on your scale and write the result on the label — that one number lets every later recipe move between grams and millilitres honestly.

Stirring mica into a container candle for a batch of fifty without a burn test. Mica is a powder that does not dissolve in wax. That is what makes it shimmer, and it is also why a maker should see how it behaves around a burning wick in their own wax before committing a batch to it. Pour three test jars, burn each to the bottom over several sessions, and watch the wick and the melt pool. If you want shimmer with no wick question at all, put the mica on the surface, on embeds or in wax melts. If you use Vybar, add colour after it
The Vybar page states the order plainly: "Always add Vybar to your melted wax before adding fragrance and colour." Green's page is one of the clearest about how colour behaves by wax: in soy it "tends to produce lighter to medium shades of green" because soy is naturally opaque, while paraffin "typically achieves a wider range of color … from pastel tones to darker shades". That tells a buyer something useful before the first pour — a deep forest green is a paraffin-leaning goal, and a soy line should expect sage to mid-green unless testing shows otherwise. For makers who prefer colouring by the piece rather than by the drop. The page describes chips that "dissolve evenly in wax" for "pillars, votives, or containers" and give "precise control over color intensity". The page does not state how much a pack weighs or how many chips it holds, so the first job is to weigh the pack and count the chips; after that, "two chips per kilo" can become a written recipe. The shimmer that works with every other colour: brushed onto a pillar, dusted over a set top, swirled through wax melts or used on embeds. The page describes shimmer and "a gorgeous pearly glow" and gives no numeric dosage ("Just a sprinkle"). It is the cheaper mica ladder — ₹5.30 a gram at 100 g — and, unlike the metallic shades, it never gets dearer per gram as the pack grows. What colour costs per candle — and why the page gives no dose
Every CSI dye page tells you what the colour is for. None tells you how much to use. That is not a gap to fill with a guess — it is a test to run once.
Dye dose depends on the shade you want, the wax (soy is opaque, paraffin clearer), the fragrance oil's own tint and the size of the candle. A single number printed on a bottle would be wrong for most of those combinations, and CSI's pages do not print one. So the table below does not recommend a dose. It shows what colour would cost at four illustrative doses, expressed as a percentage of wax weight in a 200 g candle at an 8% fragrance load (184 g of wax), so you can see the cost is small wherever your own tested dose lands.

Put those numbers next to the rest of the candle. A 200 g candle poured with Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at ₹599 a kilo holds ₹110.22 of wax. Even at the heaviest illustrative dose, colour from a 100 gm bottle is ₹8.28 — and at 0.1% it is ₹1.66, about 1.5% of the wax cost. That is why saving money on dye by buying the smallest bottle is a false economy, and why paying for consistency is not. The expensive colour mistake is not the price of the dye; it is a batch of fifty candles in the wrong shade.

What a dye supplier should tell you — and what to ask

When a new bottle of a standard colour arrives, pour one reference sample at your recorded dose and compare it with the last one you kept. It takes ten minutes, and it tells you — before a batch, not after — whether anything in your wax, oil or dye has shifted. If a shade ever looks different, message CSI with your recipe and a photo of both samples.

Colour costs a rupee or two a candle. Inconsistent colour costs the whole batch.
So choose the colourant by the job, buy the bottle size by your usage, and spend your effort on the grams-per-kilo recipe and a kept reference sample. That is where a wholesale colour programme is won or lost — not in the ₹44 between two bottle sizes.

Which is better for candles, liquid dye or dye chips?
Both colour the wax itself. Liquid dye is easiest to weigh in the small, repeatable amounts a recipe card needs, and CSI lists its pack sizes in grams or millilitres (15, 50, 100). Dye chips are described as dissolving evenly for pillars, votives or containers, but their pack weight is not stated, so weigh a pack before writing chips into a recipe. How much liquid dye should I add to soy wax?
CSI's dye pages do not state a dosage, and the right amount depends on the shade, the wax and your fragrance oil. Run a shade ladder: five samples at rising, weighed amounts, judged after the wax has set. For planning only, 0.1% of wax weight is 0.184 g in a 200 g candle. One customer describes the Purple dye as concentrated: "a little amount gives the candle good pastel shade".
Can I use mica powder inside a candle?
Mica is commonly used for surface decoration and in wax melts, where there is no wick. Because it is a powder that does not dissolve in wax, burn-test it in your own wax, wick and candle size before stirring it through a wicked candle for sale. CSI's in-stock micas are Blue, Green, White and Yellow (₹57.82 for 10 g to ₹529.82 for 100 g) and Gold, Pink and Purple (₹116.82 to ₹1,119.82).
Why does my candle colour look lighter in soy wax than in paraffin?
CSI's Green and Red liquid dye pages explain it: soy wax is naturally opaque, which softens colour, so dye "tends to produce lighter to medium shades" in soy, while paraffin, being clearer, gives a wider range from pastel to darker shades. For a deep shade in a soy line, run a shade ladder and judge the colour after it has fully set, not while the wax is still liquid.
