Candle Jars Wholesale in India

Is the jar really the biggest cost? In a 150 g candle at an 8% fragrance load, yes. The jar and lid are ₹94.40, the wax is ₹70.02 and the fragrance is ₹60.32. The container beats both.
Why are jars sold in fives and tens? Because that is what survives Indian transit — a pack of five is the smallest unit that can be cushioned properly inside a corrugated box.
What should the container cost as a share of my retail price? As a working rule, at or under about 12% of your shelf price. A ₹94.40 jar wants a candle selling at ₹800 or more.
The jar is the biggest line in your candle
Here is a real build-up at CSI live pricing, September 2026, for the format that sells hardest in India: a 150 gram jar candle with a lid at an 8% fragrance load. Every per-gram number is a pack price divided out.
Total materials: ₹233.97, of which the jar and its lid are ₹94.40, or 40.4% — against 29.9% for the wax and 25.8% for the fragrance. Not marginally more. The biggest line in the candle is the thing you throw the candle away in.
| Line item | 70 g votive | 150 g jar with lid | 600 g borosilicate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Container | ₹31.86 | ₹94.40 | ₹200.00 |
| Wax at ₹0.5074/g | 64.4 g — ₹32.68 | 138 g — ₹70.02 | 552 g — ₹280.08 |
| Fragrance at ₹5.0268/g | 5.6 g — ₹28.15 | 12 g — ₹60.32 | 48 g — ₹241.29 |
| Wick (Eco C1) | ₹5.90 | ₹5.90 | ₹5.90 |
| Wick + care stickers | ₹3.33 | ₹3.33 | ₹3.33 |
| Total materials | ₹101.92 | ₹233.97 | ₹730.60 |
| Container share | 31.3% | 40.4% | 27.4% |
| Container per gram of fill | ₹0.455 | ₹0.629 | ₹0.333 |
Read the bottom row, because it is the whole argument. Container cost per gram of fill peaks in the middle of the range: ₹0.455 at 70 g, ₹0.629 at 150 g, ₹0.333 at 600 g. Glass is priced by the piece, not by the volume it holds, so the more wax a vessel swallows the cheaper the glass gets per unit sold. That is why large-format candles look expensive and often carry the better margin — and why the 150 g lidded jar, the most popular format in Indian gifting, is where container choice hurts most.
The CSI container range, by type, at real per-unit prices
Eighty products sit in Containers For Candle Making. Below is the range by type, with every price divided down to what one unit costs. Out-of-stock lines on the September 2026 pull are marked, because an unbuyable jar is not a sourcing option however good the price looks.

The per-unit cost ladder, and what each tier is actually for
The mistake is not buying an expensive jar. It is buying a jar that does not match the price the candle will sell at. Here is the range as a ladder, with the shelf price each tier carries. The rule underneath it: keep the container at or under roughly 12% of your retail price. Above that the candle stops working as a business, because wax, fragrance, wick, packaging, labour and marketplace commission all still come out of the same number.
| Tier | ₹ per unit | Containers in this tier | Right for | Shelf price it carries at 12% |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 · Volume | ₹21.24 – ₹36.00 | Mini Glass Jars in 50s and 100s, wax melt containers, salsa jars in 50s and 100s, golden aluminium tins, 70 g votives | Corporate gifting, wedding favours, hamper fillers, sampler and discovery sets — anywhere the buyer is counting units, not admiring glass | ₹180 – ₹300 |
| 2 · Retail shelf | ₹40.12 – ₹70.80 | Shiny lidded jars, Yankee 130 ML, shot glass jars, velvet heart-cutout jars, the whole matte and frosted family, 85 g tins | Your everyday range — the candles that carry the brand on a shop shelf or a marketplace listing and reorder steadily | ₹340 – ₹600 |
| 3 · Premium | ₹94.40 – ₹129.80 | 150 g jars with lids, 135 g tins, ceramic jars | The signature range, gift boxes with a price tag on them, anything photographed for a launch | ₹790 – ₹1,100 |
| 4 · Statement | ₹200.00 – ₹354.00 | 600 g borosilicate with golden lid, apothecary dome-lid jars at 500 g and 700 g, clip-top airtight containers, dome-lid jars | Large-format three-wick candles, hotel and interior commissions, the one product that anchors the top of your price list | ₹1,700 – ₹3,000 |
Two things fall out of that table. First, a ₹107 jar and a ₹450 candle are incompatible — no clever sourcing rescues it, and the fix is a different jar, not a different wax. Second, the volume tier is better than most makers assume: the Golden Aluminium Tin Container holds an 85 gram fill at ₹30.00, against ₹70.80 for the 85 gram Tin Container at the same capacity. On a 500-unit corporate order that one substitution is ₹20,400 of margin.
| Pack | Black | Per unit | Golden | Per unit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | ₹129.80 | ₹25.96 | ₹129.80 | ₹25.96 |
| 25 | ₹634.25 | ₹25.37 | ₹1,180.00 | ₹47.20 |
| 50 | ₹1,180.00 | ₹23.60 | ₹1,180.00 | ₹23.60 |
| 100 | ₹2,124.00 | ₹21.24 | ₹2,124.00 | ₹21.24 |
| Pack | Golden lid | Per unit | Coloured glass | Per unit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | ₹200.60 | ₹40.12 | ₹310.00 | ₹62.00 |
| 50 | ₹1,475.00 | ₹29.50 | ₹3,100.00 | ₹62.00 |
| 100 | ₹2,950.00 | ₹29.50 | ₹6,200.00 | ₹62.00 |
Fill capacity is not jar volume, and neither is the name on the listing
A "150 gram jar" describes what the vessel will hold, not what you will pour into it. Two makers can buy the identical Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid and end up fifteen or twenty grams apart, because fill weight is set by where you stop pouring. Pour to the shoulder and you get one number; pour a finger's width below the rim, which a lidded candle needs so the wax never touches the lid, and you get a smaller one.
That variation lands on your cost sheet. Fifteen grams of CSI 464 at ₹0.5074 per gram is ₹7.61 a candle, and the 1.2 g of Sandalwood that rides with it at 8% is ₹6.03 more — ₹6,820 across a 500-unit run that you either spent or did not, and no way of knowing which if you costed off the listing. Weigh three finished pours on a weighing scale before you price anything, average them, and use that figure in every calculation afterwards.
Internal diameter is the other specification the listing name will not give you, and it is the one that decides the wick. The melt pool has to reach the glass, so a wider jar needs more flame — the same 70 g of wax in a squat wide votive and a tall narrow one are two different wicking problems. Measure the internal diameter of every container you stock in millimetres, record it on the recipe sheet, and size the wick from that number rather than the candle's weight. Eco Candle Wicks ship in Thin (C1) at ₹5.90 and Thick (C2) at ₹9.44 so you can test both in one jar; the full method is in the wick guide by diameter. That is as far as a container guide should go on wicking.
Breakage, transit, and buying the same jar twice
This is why containers sell in fives and tens rather than as loose pieces. A pack of five is roughly the smallest quantity that can be wrapped, nested and cushioned inside a corrugated box with enough dead space to survive being stacked in a truck. Below that the packaging outweighs the goods and per-unit shipping becomes absurd; well above it, the box gets heavy enough that a drop transmits real force through the glass. Fives, tens and twelves are not retail conventions — they are where the packing maths works out across Indian road transit.
The pattern holds across the range. The matte glass family ships in fives and tens; the heavier 150 g lidded jars in tens and twenties; tins, which do not shatter, in twelves and twenty-fours; salsa jars and mini glass jars in fifties and hundreds because they are small enough to layer. Order in whole packs and treat the pack as the unit.
The most expensive container mistake is not overpaying. It is building a range around a jar you cannot get again. A brand's second year runs on repeat customers and repeat stockists, and both are buying something they remember. If the jar your bestseller lives in goes unavailable — as the Amber Glass Jar with Black Lid (150 g) did on this pull — you are not choosing a new jar. You are relaunching a product: new photography, new listing images, new box inserts, and a customer who says the candle "changed".
Three rules make that unlikely. First, build the core range on the deepest stock lines — the ₹70.80 matte and frosted family and the ₹94.40 to ₹107.00 lidded 150 g jars carry the most colour variants in the catalogue, which is a fair proxy for how consistently they are stocked. Second, treat out-of-stock colours as a signal. Two frosted colours, three matte votive colours, three bamboo-lid jars and two ceramic containers were among the lines unavailable on the September 2026 pull — normal for a container catalogue, and exactly why a launch range should sit on the lines that stay available. Third, tell your supplier when you commit. "This is my hero jar, I will take 200 a quarter" is worth more than any negotiation, because it turns your requirement into something that can be planned rather than discovered.
Check what your container price includes, because the range splits both ways. The 150 g jars, shiny jars, borosilicate 600 g, apothecary dome-lid jars and salsa jars are priced with their lid or cap. The matte and frosted family at ₹70.80 and the 70 g votives at ₹31.86 are the glass. That matters when you compare a ₹70.80 jar against a ₹94.40 one and quietly forget only one arrives closeable.
Then the consumables, individually trivial and collectively not. A wick sticker is ₹100 per sheet of 40 (₹2.50 each); the large 40 × 2 mm version for wide-based wicks is ₹249 per 40 (₹6.23). A candle care sticker is ₹413 per 500 at one inch (₹0.83 each) or ₹699 per 1,000 at one and a half inches (₹0.70 each) — the larger roll is both bigger and cheaper per unit, which is unusual enough to act on. On the 150 g build those lines are ₹3.33, or 1.4% of materials: ignorable on one candle, ₹1,665 across 500, and the difference between finished and homemade. All of it sits in Candle Accessories.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. On a containers page that matters, because the profitable advice would be to move every reader up a tier. We have done the opposite twice here — the golden Mini Glass Jar pack of 25 is the same price as the pack of 50, and a ₹107 jar cannot sit inside a ₹450 candle. Both cost us revenue. Both are true, and a maker whose costings work is a maker who reorders.
Every price here is taken from live CSI stock in September 2026, and every per-unit figure is the listed pack price divided by the pack size so you can check the arithmetic. Out-of-stock lines are marked rather than quietly omitted, because a range built on an unavailable jar is a range you will have to relaunch. The Containers For Candle Making collection holds 80 products; the linked product page is always authoritative.
