Every glass jar, votive, tin and ceramic container CSI stocks, priced per unit from the pack price — plus the arithmetic that shows why the container, not the wax and not the fragrance, is the biggest single line in a finished candle.
40.4%
of the material cost of a typical 150 g jar candle is the jar and its lid · containers from ₹21.24 to ₹354 each · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
What does a candle jar actually cost wholesale in India? At CSI, ₹21.24 each for mini glass jars in packs of 100, ₹29.50 for salsa jars and wax melt containers at 50–100 units, ₹31.86 for a 70 g votive, ₹70.80 for the matte and frosted glass family, and ₹94.40 to ₹107.00 for a 150 g jar with a lid.

Is the jar really the biggest cost? In a 150 g candle at an 8% fragrance load, yes. The jar and lid are ₹94.40, the wax is ₹70.02 and the fragrance is ₹60.32. The container beats both.

Why are jars sold in fives and tens? Because that is what survives Indian transit — a pack of five is the smallest unit that can be cushioned properly inside a corrugated box.

What should the container cost as a share of my retail price? As a working rule, at or under about 12% of your shelf price. A ₹94.40 jar wants a candle selling at ₹800 or more.
The short answer
Buy containers by the per-unit price, never the pack price. The same glass moves from ₹25.96 each in a pack of 5 to ₹21.24 each in a pack of 100 — an 18% swing on the single largest line in the candle.
Match the tier to the shelf price: ₹21.24–₹36.00 containers for gifting and corporate volume, ₹40.12–₹70.80 for a retail range, ₹94.40–₹129.80 for a premium lidded tier, ₹200–₹354 for statement pieces.
Weigh your own fill before you price anything. A "150 gram" jar is a fill capacity, not a promise; how high you pour changes the wax weight and therefore your cost per unit.
One 150 g jar candle · ₹233.97 of materials · where the money actually goes JAR + LID ₹94.40 · 40.4% WAX 138 g ₹70.02 · 29.9% FRAGRANCE 12 g ₹60.32 · 25.8% Wick ₹5.90 · 2.5% Wick sticker + care sticker ₹3.33 · 1.4% Same build at 70 g votive: jar ₹31.86 of ₹101.92 — the wax just overtakes it at ₹32.68. At 600 g the jar is ₹200 of ₹730.60 and drops to third. Container dominance is a mid-size effect.
Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 g) at ₹944 per pack of 10, Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at ₹5,074 per 10 kg, Sandalwood Fragrance Oil at ₹5,026.80 per kg, Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) at ₹590 per 100, wick stickers at ₹100 per sheet of 40 and candle care stickers at ₹413 per 500. Straight answer
What do candle jars cost wholesale in India, and how should a brand buy them?
Buy on the per-unit price, computed from the pack price, and buy the tier that matches your shelf price rather than the cheapest thing available. At CSI, containers run from ₹21.24 for Mini Glass Jars in packs of 100 to ₹354 for a Candle Jar with Dome Lid. The heavy middle of the market sits at ₹70.80 for the matte and frosted glass family and ₹94.40–₹107.00 for the 150 g jars with lids. That last figure matters more than makers expect: in a 150 g candle at an 8% load the jar is ₹94.40 against ₹70.02 of wax and ₹60.32 of fragrance — the container is the single largest line. Which means container choice, not wax choice, is where your margin is decided. Buy in the largest pack you can genuinely turn over, weigh your own fill before you price the range, size the wick to the internal diameter, and pick a container you can reorder for two years rather than one you found once. Full range and per-unit pricing below; bulk terms on WhatsApp.
One line: the container is the biggest line item in a mid-size candle, so buy it on per-unit cost, match the tier to your shelf price, and never build a range around a jar you cannot get again.
The whole range in one place: 80 products in Containers For Candle Making, from 70 g votives at ₹31.86 to 600 g borosilicate at ₹200, in packs of 5, 10, 12, 20, 25, 50 and 100.

The jar is the biggest line in your candle

Ask a candle maker what their most expensive raw material is and almost all of them say fragrance. Then they cost a jar candle properly and go quiet.

Here is a real build-up at CSI live pricing, September 2026, for the format that sells hardest in India: a 150 gram jar candle with a lid at an 8% fragrance load. Every per-gram number is a pack price divided out.

1
The container — ₹94.40A Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 g) is ₹944 per pack of 10 and ₹1,888 per pack of 20 — ₹94.40 each either way. This jar does not get cheaper with volume, so the pack of 20 ties up twice the cash for the same unit price. The lid is included, which is why it sits where it does.
2
The wax — ₹70.02At 8% load a 150 g fill is 138 g of wax. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is ₹5,074 per 10 kg — ₹0.5074 per gram, so ₹70.02. The 1 kg at ₹507.40 works out per gram identically; the 10 kg just saves reordering.
3
The fragrance — ₹60.32Twelve grams of oil at 8%. Sandalwood Fragrance Oil at 1 kg is ₹5,026.80, or ₹5.0268 per gram — ₹60.32. Sandalwood is deliberately mid-priced here — not ₹2.83 per gram Citrus Lemon, not a designer-inspired oil at ₹24.06.
4
The wick and the stickers — ₹9.23Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) at ₹590 per 100 is ₹5.90 a candle; a wick sticker at ₹100 per sheet of 40 is ₹2.50; a care sticker at ₹413 per 500 is ₹0.83. Together, under four percent of the build.

Total materials: ₹233.97, of which the jar and its lid are ₹94.40, or 40.4% — against 29.9% for the wax and 25.8% for the fragrance. Not marginally more. The biggest line in the candle is the thing you throw the candle away in.

Container share 31.3% 40.4% 27.4%
Container per gram of fill ₹0.455 ₹0.629 ₹0.333

Read the bottom row, because it is the whole argument. Container cost per gram of fill peaks in the middle of the range: ₹0.455 at 70 g, ₹0.629 at 150 g, ₹0.333 at 600 g. Glass is priced by the piece, not by the volume it holds, so the more wax a vessel swallows the cheaper the glass gets per unit sold. That is why large-format candles look expensive and often carry the better margin — and why the 150 g lidded jar, the most popular format in Indian gifting, is where container choice hurts most.

Where this stops being true, stated honestly. At votive size the wax just overtakes the jar — ₹32.68 against ₹31.86. At 600 g the jar drops to third. And with a designer-inspired oil at ₹24.06 per gram, fragrance leads at every size. The claim is not that the jar is always the largest line. It is that in the 100–200 g lidded formats where most Indian brands actually sell, it usually is — and almost nobody costs it that way.
Argue this one against us
The commercially convenient advice would be to sell you the ₹107.00 jar. It is not always right. If your candle retails at ₹450, a ₹107 container is 23.8% of your shelf price before a gram of wax goes in, and you will not make that work. Drop to a matte glass jar at ₹70.80 or a salsa jar at ₹29.50 in fifties and re-run the numbers before you commit to a range.

The bamboo-lid line deserves a straight answer. All three bamboo-lidded containers were out of stock on the September 2026 pull. If a bamboo lid is central to your brand, do not design a launch around it on the strength of this page — ask on WhatsApp what is actually landing and when. Same for ceramic: Ceramic Jar for Candle Making at ₹129.80 is in stock, the other two are not.

The per-unit cost ladder, and what each tier is actually for

The mistake is not buying an expensive jar. It is buying a jar that does not match the price the candle will sell at. Here is the range as a ladder, with the shelf price each tier carries. The rule underneath it: keep the container at or under roughly 12% of your retail price. Above that the candle stops working as a business, because wax, fragrance, wick, packaging, labour and marketplace commission all still come out of the same number.

Four tiers · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Match the container to the shelf price, not to your taste
Tier ₹ per unit Containers in this tier Right for Shelf price it carries at 12%
1 · Volume ₹21.24 – ₹36.00 Mini Glass Jars in 50s and 100s, wax melt containers, salsa jars in 50s and 100s, golden aluminium tins, 70 g votives Corporate gifting, wedding favours, hamper fillers, sampler and discovery sets — anywhere the buyer is counting units, not admiring glass ₹180 – ₹300
2 · Retail shelf ₹40.12 – ₹70.80 Shiny lidded jars, Yankee 130 ML, shot glass jars, velvet heart-cutout jars, the whole matte and frosted family, 85 g tins Your everyday range — the candles that carry the brand on a shop shelf or a marketplace listing and reorder steadily ₹340 – ₹600
3 · Premium ₹94.40 – ₹129.80 150 g jars with lids, 135 g tins, ceramic jars The signature range, gift boxes with a price tag on them, anything photographed for a launch ₹790 – ₹1,100
4 · Statement ₹200.00 – ₹354.00 600 g borosilicate with golden lid, apothecary dome-lid jars at 500 g and 700 g, clip-top airtight containers, dome-lid jars Large-format three-wick candles, hotel and interior commissions, the one product that anchors the top of your price list ₹1,700 – ₹3,000

Two things fall out of that table. First, a ₹107 jar and a ₹450 candle are incompatible — no clever sourcing rescues it, and the fix is a different jar, not a different wax. Second, the volume tier is better than most makers assume: the Golden Aluminium Tin Container holds an 85 gram fill at ₹30.00, against ₹70.80 for the 85 gram Tin Container at the same capacity. On a 500-unit corporate order that one substitution is ₹20,400 of margin.

Mini Glass Jars (Candle Making Containers)
The cheapest per-unit container CSI stocks, in black and golden — the jar for sampler sets, favours and corporate volume. Read the pack ladder rather than clicking the first option. The golden pack of 25 is ₹1,180, the same money as the pack of 50. If you want 25 golden jars, buy 50: twice the glass, identical price. We would rather tell you than take the order.

Retail tier · the biggest per-unit drop in the catalogue
200 ml Salsa Glass Jar with 63 mm Lug Cap
A 200 ml jar with a threaded lug cap — a different proposition from a loose lid, because the cap seals and the candle can be posted and stacked without it working loose. The golden-lid version carries the steepest volume discount in the range: ₹40.12 down to ₹29.50, a 26.5% drop. The coloured versions hold at ₹62.00 flat whatever pack you take, so there is no reason to over-order those.

The CSI principle
You do not choose a jar and then find a price for the candle. You choose a price for the candle and then find a jar that fits inside it.
The ranges that fail start at the wrong end: a beautiful container found first, a retail price reverse-engineered around it, a margin that never recovers. Decide the shelf price, take 12% of it, shop inside that number. Full method in how to price candles in India 2026.

Fill capacity is not jar volume, and neither is the name on the listing

A "150 gram jar" describes what the vessel will hold, not what you will pour into it. Two makers can buy the identical Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid and end up fifteen or twenty grams apart, because fill weight is set by where you stop pouring. Pour to the shoulder and you get one number; pour a finger's width below the rim, which a lidded candle needs so the wax never touches the lid, and you get a smaller one.

That variation lands on your cost sheet. Fifteen grams of CSI 464 at ₹0.5074 per gram is ₹7.61 a candle, and the 1.2 g of Sandalwood that rides with it at 8% is ₹6.03 more — ₹6,820 across a 500-unit run that you either spent or did not, and no way of knowing which if you costed off the listing. Weigh three finished pours on a weighing scale before you price anything, average them, and use that figure in every calculation afterwards.

Millilitres are not grams
The 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar and Yankee Glass Jar 130 ML are described by volume; the votives, 150 g jars, tins and borosilicate range by fill weight in grams. They do not convert one-for-one — soy wax is lighter than water, so a 200 ml vessel will not take 200 g of soy. Where a listing gives millilitres, cost from your own scale after a real pour.

Internal diameter is the other specification the listing name will not give you, and it is the one that decides the wick. The melt pool has to reach the glass, so a wider jar needs more flame — the same 70 g of wax in a squat wide votive and a tall narrow one are two different wicking problems. Measure the internal diameter of every container you stock in millimetres, record it on the recipe sheet, and size the wick from that number rather than the candle's weight. Eco Candle Wicks ship in Thin (C1) at ₹5.90 and Thick (C2) at ₹9.44 so you can test both in one jar; the full method is in the wick guide by diameter. That is as far as a container guide should go on wicking.

Sizing a festive run? Working back from Diwali on 8 November 2026, containers want to be ordered well ahead of wax and fragrance, because glass is the line that arrives broken and needs replacing. Bulk container pricing and GST invoicing are handled directly on WhatsApp.
Order containers in bulk

Breakage, transit, and buying the same jar twice

Glass is the only raw material you buy that can arrive worth nothing. Wax does not break. Fragrance does not break.

This is why containers sell in fives and tens rather than as loose pieces. A pack of five is roughly the smallest quantity that can be wrapped, nested and cushioned inside a corrugated box with enough dead space to survive being stacked in a truck. Below that the packaging outweighs the goods and per-unit shipping becomes absurd; well above it, the box gets heavy enough that a drop transmits real force through the glass. Fives, tens and twelves are not retail conventions — they are where the packing maths works out across Indian road transit.

The pattern holds across the range. The matte glass family ships in fives and tens; the heavier 150 g lidded jars in tens and twenties; tins, which do not shatter, in twelves and twenty-fours; salsa jars and mini glass jars in fifties and hundreds because they are small enough to layer. Order in whole packs and treat the pack as the unit.

Budget for breakage; do not pretend it is zero. Glass crossing India in the monsoon occasionally arrives cracked, and the honest way to run the business is to carry a small allowance in your costing rather than treat each incident as a crisis. Photograph the outer carton before opening, photograph the damage in situ, raise it the same day. And repack properly when finished candles go out: the Packaging Materials collection carries ten products including corrugated boxes, air bubble roll, crinkle paper, tissue paper and craft paper tape. We have deliberately not quoted those prices here — they were not in the September 2026 pricing pull this guide was written from, so check the collection for current figures.
Reordering the same jar is a brand decision, not a purchasing one

The most expensive container mistake is not overpaying. It is building a range around a jar you cannot get again. A brand's second year runs on repeat customers and repeat stockists, and both are buying something they remember. If the jar your bestseller lives in goes unavailable — as the Amber Glass Jar with Black Lid (150 g) did on this pull — you are not choosing a new jar. You are relaunching a product: new photography, new listing images, new box inserts, and a customer who says the candle "changed".

Three rules make that unlikely. First, build the core range on the deepest stock lines — the ₹70.80 matte and frosted family and the ₹94.40 to ₹107.00 lidded 150 g jars carry the most colour variants in the catalogue, which is a fair proxy for how consistently they are stocked. Second, treat out-of-stock colours as a signal. Two frosted colours, three matte votive colours, three bamboo-lid jars and two ceramic containers were among the lines unavailable on the September 2026 pull — normal for a container catalogue, and exactly why a launch range should sit on the lines that stay available. Third, tell your supplier when you commit. "This is my hero jar, I will take 200 a quarter" is worth more than any negotiation, because it turns your requirement into something that can be planned rather than discovered.

Anyone can find a beautiful jar once. A brand is what happens when you can find it again in eighteen months.
— CandleMakingSuppliesIndia
Lids, stickers and labels — the finishing cost nobody prices in

Check what your container price includes, because the range splits both ways. The 150 g jars, shiny jars, borosilicate 600 g, apothecary dome-lid jars and salsa jars are priced with their lid or cap. The matte and frosted family at ₹70.80 and the 70 g votives at ₹31.86 are the glass. That matters when you compare a ₹70.80 jar against a ₹94.40 one and quietly forget only one arrives closeable.

Then the consumables, individually trivial and collectively not. A wick sticker is ₹100 per sheet of 40 (₹2.50 each); the large 40 × 2 mm version for wide-based wicks is ₹249 per 40 (₹6.23). A candle care sticker is ₹413 per 500 at one inch (₹0.83 each) or ₹699 per 1,000 at one and a half inches (₹0.70 each) — the larger roll is both bigger and cheaper per unit, which is unusual enough to act on. On the 150 g build those lines are ₹3.33, or 1.4% of materials: ignorable on one candle, ₹1,665 across 500, and the difference between finished and homemade. All of it sits in Candle Accessories.

The finished-candle cost, one more time. Container ₹94.40 + wax ₹70.02 + fragrance ₹60.32 + wick ₹5.90 + wick sticker ₹2.50 + care sticker ₹0.83 = ₹233.97, before label, box, shipping, labour and platform commission. At an ₹800 shelf price the container is 11.8% and materials are 29.2% — a range that works. At ₹450 it does not. Check the whole picture against what a candle business costs to start and whether candle making is profitable in 2026.
Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. On a containers page that matters, because the profitable advice would be to move every reader up a tier. We have done the opposite twice here — the golden Mini Glass Jar pack of 25 is the same price as the pack of 50, and a ₹107 jar cannot sit inside a ₹450 candle. Both cost us revenue. Both are true, and a maker whose costings work is a maker who reorders.

Every price here is taken from live CSI stock in September 2026, and every per-unit figure is the listed pack price divided by the pack size so you can check the arithmetic. Out-of-stock lines are marked rather than quietly omitted, because a range built on an unavailable jar is a range you will have to relaunch. The Containers For Candle Making collection holds 80 products; the linked product page is always authoritative.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest candle jar available wholesale in India?
At CSI the lowest per-unit container is Mini Glass Jars at ₹21.24 each in a pack of 100 (₹2,124 the pack), black or golden. The cheapest metal container is the Golden Aluminium Tin Container at ₹30.00, a pack of 12 with an 85 gram fill weight, and the cheapest votive is the Colorful Votive Glass Jar in black at ₹31.86 in packs of 5 or 10. CSI live pricing, September 2026; the linked product page is authoritative.
Is the jar really more expensive than the wax in a candle?
In the mid-size lidded formats, yes. On a 150 gram candle at an 8% load the Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid is ₹94.40, the 138 g of CSI 464 wax is ₹70.02 and the 12 g of Sandalwood is ₹60.32. It stops being true at both ends: at 70 g the wax narrowly overtakes the jar, at 600 g the jar is third, and an expensive designer-inspired oil leads at any size.
How much should my container cost as a share of the candle's selling price?
As a working rule, at or under about 12% of retail. That puts a ₹21.24 mini jar in a candle at around ₹180, a ₹70.80 matte jar at ₹600, a ₹94.40 lidded jar at ₹800 and a ₹200 borosilicate jar at ₹1,700. It is a rule of thumb, not an accounting standard, and it exists to stop the commonest failure: falling for a container first and reverse-engineering a price around it.
Why are candle jars sold in packs of five and ten rather than singly?
Because that is the quantity that can be wrapped, nested and cushioned inside a corrugated box and still survive Indian road transit at a sensible per-unit shipping cost. Smaller packs mean the packaging outweighs the goods; much larger boxes get heavy enough that an impact transmits real force through the glass. Lighter items go further — salsa jars and mini glass jars ship in fifties and hundreds, and tins, which do not shatter, in twelves.
Does a 150 gram jar hold exactly 150 grams of wax?
No — that is a fill capacity, not a specification for your pour. A lidded candle has to stop far enough below the rim that the wax never touches the lid. Fifteen grams of difference is ₹7.61 of wax and ₹6.03 of fragrance per candle at CSI 464 and Sandalwood pricing — ₹6,820 across a 500-unit run. Weigh three finished pours on a weighing scale, average them, cost from that. Same caution for jars described in millilitres: soy is lighter than water, so a 200 ml vessel does not take 200 g of wax.
What container should I use for a corporate or wedding bulk order?
The volume tier, ₹21.24 to ₹36.00 a unit: Mini Glass Jars at ₹21.24 in hundreds, salsa jars and wax melt containers at ₹29.50, the Golden Aluminium Tin at ₹30.00 and 70 g votives at ₹31.86. Tins travel better than glass, which matters when a client couriers 300 hampers themselves. For pack sizes beyond those listed, ask on WhatsApp.

About this guide: Written by the CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA team. Product recommendations reflect the CSI range; the cost build-up, the per-unit ladder and the 12%-of-retail rule apply to any supplier. The 12% figure is CSI's own working rule of thumb, not an industry standard, and the shelf prices shown against each tier (₹180, ₹300, ₹340, ₹450, ₹600, ₹790, ₹800, ₹1,100, ₹1,700, ₹3,000) are illustrative retail prices for your own candle derived from that rule — they are not CSI prices.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on their product pages. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me. Only reviews Judge.me recorded as verified purchases carry the "Verified buyer" badge.
