A thousand 200g candles at an 8% fragrance load need 184 kg of wax, which becomes 19 × 10 kg bags once you add a planning allowance. Change the candle size and the answer moves by tens of kilos; change the load and it barely moves — this guide shows both, then turns the kilos into bags, rupees and melter loads.
184 kg
of wax for 1,000 × 200g candles at 8% (184g each) · 189.5–193.2 kg with a 3–5% planning allowance · 19 × 10 kg bags covers 3% · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How much wax for 1,000 candles? For 200g candles at an 8% load, 184 kg. For 150g jars, 138 kg; for 100g candles, 92 kg. At 8% load, wax is 92% of every candle's weight.

How many bags is that? Add a 3–5% planning allowance for melter residue, top-ups and rejects and 184 kg becomes 189.5–193.2 kg: 19 × 10 kg bags covers 3%, a 20th bag covers the full 5%.

What does it cost? At listed prices, 190 kg is ₹75,848 in Eco Soy CSI 400, ₹80,712 in Natural Soy Pearl Wax, ₹96,406 in Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 and ₹1,13,981 in Luxury Soy Wax Chunks. Those are listed ceilings; a 190 kg order is quoted on WhatsApp.

Does a higher load save wax? Only a little. Moving 1,000 × 200g candles from 8% to 10% saves 4 kg of wax. Moving from 200g to 250g candles adds 46 kg. Fix your sizes first.
The short answer
Multiply your size list, not a single size: wax = candles × candle weight × (1 − load). A real 1,000-candle range with votives, 150g jars and a few large jars can need 40 kg less than 1,000 × 200g.
Round up to whole bags: add a stated 3–5% planning allowance, then round to the bag. For 1,000 × 200g at 8%, that is 19 or 20 × 10 kg bags.
Count melter loads before you order: 190 kg is 19 full loads of a 10 kg melter or 10 of a 20 kg one — about 54 × 200g candles per 10 kg load.
1,000 candles at 8% — kilos of wax by candle size, and 10 kg bags with a 3% allowance 70g votive 64.4 kg · 7 bags 100g candle 92 kg · 10 bags 150g jar 138 kg · 15 bags 200g candle 184 kg · 19 bags 250g candle 230 kg · 24 bags 300g candle 276 kg · 29 bags
Bar length is kilos of wax for 1,000 candles at an 8% load. Bag counts are 10 kg bags after a 3% planning allowance. Every 50g added to the candle adds 46 kg of wax — between four and five bags — while raising the load from 8% to 10% on 1,000 × 200g candles saves only 4 kg.
Straight answer
How much wax do I need to make 1,000 candles, and how should I buy it?
Multiply your candle sizes out first. At an 8% fragrance load a candle is 92% wax, so 1,000 × 200g candles need 184 kg, 1,000 × 150g jars need 138 kg and 1,000 × 100g candles need 92 kg. A mixed range — say 300 × 70g votives, 200 × 120g jars, 400 × 150g jars and 100 × 500g jars — needs 142.6 kg, not 184. Load changes the figure far less than size: 1,000 × 200g candles need 180 kg at 10% and 174 kg at 13%, and 13% belongs only on a wax that states it, such as Luxury Soy Wax Chunks or CSI 468. Then add a 3–5% planning allowance and round up to whole bags: for 184 kg that is 19 × 10 kg bags (190 kg) or 20 for the full 5%. At listed prices 190 kg costs ₹96,406 in Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, ₹1,13,981 in Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, ₹80,712 in Natural Soy Pearl Wax (3 × 50 kg + 4 × 10 kg) and ₹75,848 in Eco Soy CSI 400 (38 × 5 kg). It is 19 full loads of a 10 kg Electric Wax Melter. Listed per-kilo prices barely move with quantity, so a 190 kg order is a quote conversation on WhatsApp — and only for a wax your recipe has already proven.
One line: 1,000 × 200g candles at 8% is 184 kg of wax — add 3–5%, round up to 19 or 20 × 10 kg bags, and plan 19 melter loads.
Planning a 1,000-candle run? Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at ₹5,074 per 10 kg, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at ₹5,999 per 10 kg and Natural Soy Pearl Wax at ₹21,240 per 50 kg — with bulk pricing and GST invoicing for the full order on WhatsApp.

1,000 candles in kilos: the one formula

Every wax order for a thousand candles is the same three-number sum. The mistakes are all in which three numbers you put in.

At 1,000 candles, a wrong assumption of 20g per candle is 20 kg of wax — two bags you either run short of mid-pour or pay for and store for months. The formula is: wax (kg) = number of candles × finished candle weight (g) × (1 − fragrance load) ÷ 1,000. Fragrance load is the share of the finished candle that is oil, so at 8% a 200g candle is 16g of oil and 184g of wax. Multiply by 1,000 and you have 184 kg of wax and 16 kg of oil. The oil side of that calculation — how many kilos, how many scents, which bottles — is worked through in how much fragrance oil for 1,000 candles. This page stays with the wax.

The candle count is usually firm. The finished weight is where plans go wrong, because many jars state millilitres, not grams, and real ranges mix sizes. The load matters least: each percentage point on a 200g candle is 2g, or 2 kg across 1,000 candles — a fifth of a bag.

Two ways of writing "8%"
This series, like our other production guides, calculates load as a share of the finished candle: 200g at 8% = 184g wax + 16g oil. The Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page phrases its 8–13% range as "of total wax weight", which is the other common convention. On that basis a 200g candle at 8% is about 185.2g of wax, and 1,000 of them need about 185.2 kg instead of 184 kg — a 1.2 kg difference that your planning allowance already covers. Pick one convention, write it on the recipe card, and never mix them inside one production run.
The mistake: ordering exactly 184 kg for 1,000 candles. Wax stays on the melter wall and in the pouring pitcher, jars get topped up after the first pour sinks, and a few candles are rejected for a crooked wick or a cracked surface. A 3% planning allowance is 5.52 kg — thirty 200g candles; 5% is 9.2 kg, or fifty. That is a planning figure, not a measured loss rate. Plan with it for the first run, weigh what is actually left over, and replace it with your own number on the next order. A useful guide to the per-candle arithmetic behind it is how much wax one candle actually needs.

The size × load matrix at 1,000 candles

Eight candle sizes, three loads, and the kilos of wax each needs for 1,000 candles. The last two columns add the 3–5% allowance to the 8% figure and round to whole 10 kg bags. Use 13% only on a wax whose page states that ceiling — Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 do; CSI 464 states up to 10%.

Wax for 1,000 candles · load as a share of finished candle weight
Kilos of wax by candle size and fragrance load, and the bags that covers
Candle size Wax @ 8% Wax @ 10% Wax @ 13% @ 8% + 3–5% allowance 10 kg bags (3% / 5%)
70 g votive 64.4 kg 63.0 kg 60.9 kg 66.3–67.6 kg 7 / 7
100 g 92.0 kg 90.0 kg 87.0 kg 94.8–96.6 kg 10 / 10
120 g 110.4 kg 108.0 kg 104.4 kg 113.7–115.9 kg 12 / 12
150 g 138.0 kg 135.0 kg 130.5 kg 142.1–144.9 kg 15 / 15
200 g 184.0 kg 180.0 kg 174.0 kg 189.5–193.2 kg 19 / 20
250 g 230.0 kg 225.0 kg 217.5 kg 236.9–241.5 kg 24 / 25
300 g 276.0 kg 270.0 kg 261.0 kg 284.3–289.8 kg 29 / 29
500 g 460.0 kg 450.0 kg 435.0 kg 473.8–483.0 kg 48 / 49

Read the table across a row and then down a column, and the lesson is obvious. Across the 200g row, going from 8% to 13% saves 10 kg — exactly one bag, and only on a wax rated for 13%. Down the 8% column, going from 200g to 250g adds 46 kg. A 50g change in candle size moves the wax order 11.5 times as much as a two-point change in load. When someone asks "how much wax for 1,000 candles?", the only honest first reply is "what size?"

The load still matters — just not to the wax bill. It moves weight from wax to oil, which costs several times as much per gram: 16 kg of oil at 8%, 20 kg at 10%, 26 kg at 13%. Choose it on throw and the wax's stated ceiling, never to buy fewer bags. If you are weighing 8% against 10% on cost, fragrance oils for an 8–10% load sets out what the two points cost per candle.

The mistake: planning in millilitres. Many CSI jars state their capacity in ml. The 200ml Salsa Glass Jar states "200ml capacity"; the Black Matte Glass Jar states a "fill weight of 200 ml". Neither states grams, and 200 ml of wax is not 200g — so do not put "200" into the formula for them. Fill one jar to your intended line with your chosen wax and fragrance, let it set, weigh it, and subtract the empty jar. That number, multiplied by 1,000, is your plan.

Real ranges are mixed sizes

Almost nobody makes 1,000 identical candles. The wax plan should look like the product list, not like the headline.

A festive range usually spans a gift-set votive, an everyday jar and a hero candle, so plan the wax line by line. The worked mix uses CSI vessels whose pages state a fill in grams: the Clear Glass Votive Jar 70 gram ("~70g wax fill"), the Amber Shiny Glass Jar with Black Lid ("Capacity: 120 gm"), the Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid ("150g fill capacity") and the Apothecary Glass Candle Jar with Dome Lid in its 500 gm size.

Example 1,000-candle range · 8% load · stated gram fills
Wax line by line for a four-size range, against 1,000 × 200g
Line Candles Fill Wax per candle Wax for the line Oil for the line
Votive gift sets · Clear Glass Votive Jar 300 70 g 64.4 g 19.32 kg 1.68 kg
Everyday jar · Amber Shiny 120 gm 200 120 g 110.4 g 22.08 kg 1.92 kg
Core jar · Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid 400 150 g 138 g 55.20 kg 4.80 kg
Hero candle · Apothecary 500 gm 100 500 g 460 g 46.00 kg 4.00 kg
Range total 1,000 155 g average 142.60 kg 12.40 kg
With a 3–5% allowance 146.9–149.7 kg → 15 × 10 kg bags Weighed exactly
For comparison: 1,000 × 200g 1,000 200 g 184 g 184.00 kg → 19–20 bags 16.00 kg

The mixed range needs 41.4 kg less wax than the "1,000 × 200g" headline — four bags that would otherwise be ordered, paid for and stored. At ₹5,999 a 10 kg bag of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, that is ₹23,996 of cash that did not need to leave the business. It also changes the wick order and the oil order, which is why the full list of materials for this volume belongs in one sheet, as in raw materials required to make 1,000 candles.

The 100 hero candles are a tenth of the units but take 46 kg — almost a third of the wax. If cash is tight, pour that line last, after the smaller lines have proved the scents.

1
Write the range as lines, not as a totalEvery SKU with its vessel and planned count. "1,000 candles" is a target; "300 votives, 200 × 120g, 400 × 150g, 100 × 500g" is a plan.
2
Use the stated gram fill — or weigh oneWhere the jar page states grams, use it. Where it states ml or nothing, weigh one finished test candle minus the empty jar.
3
Fix one load per SKUChoose it from a cured burn test and the wax's stated ceiling — up to 10% on CSI 464, up to 13% on Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and CSI 468. Where a page states no ceiling, as on Natural Soy Pearl Wax, plan at 8% until your own tests say otherwise.
4
Multiply each line and add them upCandles × fill × (1 − load). Keep grams until the last step, then divide by 1,000. The example range comes to 142,600g, or 142.6 kg.
5
Add the allowance, then round to the bagMultiply by 1.03 and 1.05 and round both up to whole bags. If both give the same count — 15 bags here — you are done; if not, decide on cash and storage.

From kilos to bags, wax by wax

No CSI soy wax is listed in a 190 kg pack, so the listed cost of a 1,000-candle wax order is built from the largest listed packs. Five soy waxes list a 10 kg bag; Natural Soy Pearl Wax also lists a 50 kg pack; Eco Soy CSI 400 tops out at 5 kg. The table prices 190 kg — 184 kg plus about 3% — for each, and shows what the wax puts into one 200g candle. These are listed ceilings. A 190 kg order is exactly the kind of quantity to quote on WhatsApp, and this page does not guess what that quote will be.

Worked out above: packs × listed pack price. Eco Soy CSI 400 38 × ₹1,996 = ₹75,848 · Natural Soy Pearl Wax 3 × ₹21,240 + 4 × ₹4,248 = ₹63,720 + ₹16,992 = ₹80,712 · CSI 464 19 × ₹5,074 = ₹96,406 · Luxury Soy Wax Chunks 19 × ₹5,999 = ₹1,13,981, or 38 × ₹2,995 = ₹1,13,810 · Soy Pillar Wax 19 × ₹6,000 = ₹1,14,000 · CSI 468 19 × ₹6,370 = ₹1,21,030. Wax per candle = per-kg price × 0.184. The 20th 10 kg bag, for a full 5% allowance, adds ₹5,074 (CSI 464), ₹5,999 (Chunks) or ₹6,370 (CSI 468).

The spread between the cheapest and dearest container soy wax on this order is ₹45,182 on one invoice, but only ₹43.76 per 200g candle. On Luxury Soy Wax Chunks the 5 kg bag is fractionally cheaper per kilo (₹599 against ₹599.90), so 38 × 5 kg lists ₹171 below 19 × 10 kg — a real, tiny saving that costs nineteen more bags to open and rotate. And Eco Soy CSI 400 means 38 bags for one run: plan the shelf space first.

Natural Soy Pearl Wax's 50 kg pack does not lower the price per kilo — ₹424.80 at 10 kg and at 50 kg. Four 50 kg packs (200 kg, ₹84,960) cover the full 5% allowance; three plus four 10 kg bags give exactly 190 kg. Choose on handling, not price.

The mistake: letting the bag count choose the wax. ₹73.45 of wax per candle against ₹110.38 looks decisive at 1,000 candles. It is not, if the cheaper wax has never been burn-tested in your jar. Eco Soy CSI 400 and Natural Soy Pearl Wax state no fragrance load; Chunks state 8–13%. A 1,000-candle run is the wrong place to discover a wax's limits. Order 190 kg only of a wax that has already carried a 10 kg batch through cure and a customer's home; the step-by-step for that stage is in buying 10 kg of soy wax.

Its product page gives the melting point and pour temperature both as 80–90°C; follow the page and log what your thermometer actually reads. The CSI principle
Size decides the kilos. The bag decides the order. The load decides neither.
At 1,000 candles, a 50g change in candle size moves the wax by 46 kg, a two-point change in load moves it by 4 kg, and the order is always rounded to whole bags. Get the size list right, add a stated allowance, round up once — and spend your testing effort on the load, where it changes the candle rather than the invoice.
Ordering 150–200 kg in one go? Listed per-kilo prices are the ceiling. Send the wax, the kilos, how often you reorder, your GST number and your pincode, and bulk pricing and GST invoicing are handled on WhatsApp.

Melter loads and pour days for 1,000 candles

Kilos tell you what to order. Melter loads tell you whether you can actually pour it before Diwali — or before the customer's deadline.

Next, divide the wax by your melter. The Mini Electric Wax/Soap Melter states a 1 litre capacity. A litre of melted wax weighs less than a kilo, so 184 kg would take well over 180 fills — a testing tool, not a 1,000-candle tool. The Electric Wax Melter (Imported) is listed in 10 kg and 20 kg capacities. Its page states that it can melt 10 kg of soy wax in approximately 30 minutes at 100°C and that the display ranges from 60°C to 100°C. It also says it can "create 80 candles at a time", without saying what size of candle; for a 200g candle at 8%, 10 kg of wax is about 54 candles, so plan with your own size.

190 kg through each melter · stated capacities, listed prices
Full loads, candles per load and what the melter adds per candle on one 1,000-candle run
Melter Listed price Loads for 190 kg 200g candles per full load @ 8% Melting time on the stated figure Price ÷ 1,000 candles

Electric Wax Melter · 10 kg capacity ₹21,240 19 ≈54 ≈9.5 hours (19 × ≈30 min) ₹21.24
Electric Wax Melter · 20 kg capacity ₹25,960 10 (9.5) ≈108 Not clearly stated for 20 kg ₹25.96

The last column divides the price across a single run — a deliberately harsh view; over four such runs it is ₹5.31 a candle. The melting time is the stated figure for 10 kg of soy wax at 100°C and covers melting only. Working temperatures come from the wax, not the melter's maximum: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks state fragrance in at 80–90°C, while CSI 468 states a 58–60°C pour, so bring each load to the wax's own figure and check with a pen thermometer rather than the dial alone. One CSI customer, reviewing the 10 kg melter, describes 10 kg melting "in mere 20-30 minutes" — a customer's experience, useful as a sense check, not a specification.

Now turn loads into pour days. Suppose — as an illustration, not a benchmark — your team pours four 10 kg loads a day. That is about 217 × 200g candles a day, so 190 kg is five pour days. With a 14–21 day cure, the last pour day sets when the whole run is ready: ship date − 21 days − 5 pour days − time for the wax to arrive and be checked. For 1,000 candles aimed at Diwali on 8 November 2026, that back-planning is done step by step in manufacturing 1,000 candles for Diwali.

Match the load to the bag
With a 10 kg melter and 10 kg bags, one bag is one load, and every load is traceable to one bag. Write the bag's delivery date on the batch record for the 54 candles it becomes. If one load behaves differently — frosting, a different set, a surface that will not smooth — you know exactly which bag to check and which candles to hold back. With a 20 kg melter, open two bags per load and record both.

One delivery or three

Listed per-kilo prices are flat or near-flat from 10 kg upward on most CSI soy waxes, so one 190 kg delivery does not lower the listed price. The choice is about cash, space and risk. The table uses Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at ₹5,999 per 10 kg.

19 × 10 kg of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks · listed prices · illustrative split
Same 190 kg, three ways to receive it
Rhythm Bags per drop Cash per drop Bags stored at peak Suits Watch out for
One drop 19 ₹1,13,981 19 A single festive run poured in one fortnight All 190 kg from one delivery — check it before the first pour
Two drops 10 + 9 ₹59,990 + ₹53,991 10 Two pour weeks with a sales check between them Pour a control candle from each drop and compare
Three drops 7 + 6 + 6 ₹41,993 + ₹35,994 + ₹35,994 7 1,000 candles spread over a quarter Your own lead time between order and arrival sets the reorder date

For a one-off run, one drop is simplest. Over a quarter, three drops keep under ₹42,000 of wax on the shelf and let the SKU split follow sales. Either way, keep bags sealed, dated and off the floor, and open the oldest first. Only CSI 464 and CSI 468 state a shelf life on their pages; for the others, rotate strictly. Storage and delivery checks at this scale are covered in more depth in buying 100 kg of soy wax.

The mistake: ordering the 1,000-candle wax and forgetting what sits beside it. The same 1,000 × 200g candles need 16 kg of oil, 1,000 wicks and 1,000 vessels, and the oil alone can cost as much as the wax. At CSI, 1,000 Eco Candle Wicks list at ₹5,900 in Thin (C1) and ₹9,440 in Thick (C2). Order the wax with the rest of the bill of materials open in front of you, or the wax arrives on time and the run still waits for oil.
Nobody runs short of wax at candle nine hundred and ninety because the maths was hard. They run short because they multiplied the headline instead of the size list.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. A supplier gains when a 1,000-candle plan is rounded up generously. This guide shows that a real mixed range can need 40 kg less than the headline, and that the allowance should be replaced by your own measured figure after the first run.

Every price, pack size and specification on this page comes from live CSI stock in September 2026 and links to the product page, where current pricing always takes precedence. Fragrance loads, temperatures, shelf life, vessel fills and melter capacities are quoted only where the product page states them; loads are wax formulation limits, not regulatory limits. The 3–5% allowance and the four-loads-a-day schedule are planning assumptions, labelled as such.

Frequently asked questions

How much soy wax do I need to make 1,000 candles?
It depends on candle size first. At an 8% fragrance load, 1,000 × 200g candles need 184 kg of wax, 1,000 × 150g jars need 138 kg, 1,000 × 100g candles need 92 kg and 1,000 × 70g votives need 64.4 kg. The formula is candles × candle weight × (1 − load). For jars that state capacity in ml, weigh one filled, set candle and use that figure. Add a 3–5% planning allowance before you order.
How many 10 kg bags of wax do I need for 1,000 candles?
For 1,000 × 200g candles at 8%, 19 × 10 kg bags (190 kg) cover 184 kg plus a 3% planning allowance; 20 bags cover the full 5%. For 150g jars it is 15 bags, for 100g candles 10 bags. Eco Soy CSI 400 is listed only up to 5 kg, so 190 kg is 38 bags. Natural Soy Pearl Wax also lists a 50 kg pack at the same ₹424.80 per kilo.
What does wax for 1,000 candles cost in India?
For 190 kg at CSI's listed September 2026 prices: ₹75,848 for Eco Soy CSI 400 (38 × 5 kg), ₹80,712 for Natural Soy Pearl Wax, ₹96,406 for Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, ₹1,13,981 for Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, ₹1,14,000 for Soy Pillar Wax and ₹1,21,030 for Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468. That is ₹73.45 to ₹117.21 of wax per 200g candle. Listed prices are the ceiling; ask for a quote on WhatsApp.
Does using more fragrance oil mean I need less wax?
Yes, but only slightly. Because load is a share of the finished candle, a higher load replaces wax with oil. For 1,000 × 200g candles the wax falls from 184 kg at 8% to 180 kg at 10% and 174 kg at 13% — while the oil rises from 16 kg to 20 kg and 26 kg. Oil costs far more per gram than wax, so never raise the load to save wax, and use 13% only on a wax that states it.
How many melter loads does it take to make 1,000 candles?
For 190 kg of wax, 19 full loads of a 10 kg Electric Wax Melter or 10 loads of the 20 kg model. Each 10 kg load makes about 54 × 200g candles at 8%. The 10 kg melter's page states that it melts 10 kg of soy wax in approximately 30 minutes at 100°C, so the run takes roughly 9.5 hours of melting alone. A 1 litre mini melter would need well over 180 fills.
How much extra wax should I buy for wastage?
Plan with a 3–5% allowance for wax left in the melter and pitcher, top-ups and rejected candles. On 184 kg that is 5.5–9.2 kg, or roughly 30–50 × 200g candles. Treat it as a planning figure, not a measured loss rate: weigh what is left after your first 1,000-candle run and use your real figure next time. Rounding up to whole bags often covers the allowance on its own.
Plan the kilos, then order the bags

Figures verified September 2026: Load as a share of finished candle weight: wax = candles × weight × (1 − load); 200g at 8% = 184g wax + 16g oil; 1,000 candles = 184 kg (180 kg at 10%, 174 kg at 13%); share-of-wax basis 200 ÷ 1.08 ≈ 185.2g. Planning allowance 3–5% (not a measured loss): 189.52–193.2 kg. Mixed range 300 × 70g + 200 × 120g + 400 × 150g + 100 × 500g = 155,000g × 0.92 = 142.6 kg wax, 12.4 kg oil.
