Why wax is the smallest worry in a 100 g candle
A 100 g candle is where wax matters least and everything else matters most. The wax cost is modest: ₹36.71 of Eco Soy CSI 400, ₹46.68 of CSI 464, ₹58.60 of CSI 468. What does not shrink with the candle is the list of things every candle needs regardless of size.
The costs that do not scale down
A wick costs the same in a small jar as in a large one. An Eco Candle Wick Thin (C1) is ₹5.90 each. Against ₹46.68 of CSI 464 that wick is 5.90 ÷ 46.68, about 13% of the wax cost. The same wick in a 300 g candle is under 5% of its wax. Jars, lids, labels and boxes behave the same way: a small candle carries almost the full cost of its packaging on a much smaller amount of wax. Your pouring time barely changes either. Filling ten 100 g jars takes longer than filling three 300 g jars, although they use similar wax.
So when a 100 g line is not making money, the wax is rarely the reason. Look at the jar and packaging first.
Where small candles give you room
The upside is that a premium wax costs little extra at this size. Moving a 100 g candle from CSI 464 to CSI 468 adds 58.60 − 46.68 = 11.92 rupees of wax. If a better surface or the coconut-soy blend's stated 13% load helps a gift set sell, that is a small price for it. The same move in a 300 g candle adds three times as much.
Small candles also make good test pieces. One kilogram of wax fills 10 candles of 100 g, so a single 1 kg bag gives you enough to try two wicks and two oils with a spare or two. A 500 g bag gives 500 ÷ 92, about 5 candles.
The trap: choosing the cheapest wax to rescue a thin margin on minis or favours. Swapping CSI 464 for Eco Soy CSI 400 saves 46.68 − 36.71 = 9.97 rupees a candle. A cheaper jar or simpler box often saves more, with no change to how the candle burns.
