Wholesale Sourcing Guides · Colour
Colour at production volume, where the problem is never the price — it is whether jar 400 in a 500-jar order matches jar 1. The full dye and mica price table, the dosing method that makes batches repeatable, and the arithmetic that shows why dye is the last line to economise on.
₹0.83
the dye in a 200 g soy candle at a mid shade — 0.31% of what the candle costs to make · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
What does candle dye cost per candle? ₹0.83 at a mid shade in a 200 g soy candle. The wax in that candle is ₹110.38 and the jar ₹70.80 — dye is roughly one 323rd of cost of goods.

So what should I optimise? Not price. Consistency. Dose by weight as a percentage of wax weight, write it on the SKU sheet, never work in "a few drops".

Liquid or chips for production? Liquid — it weighs to any target. Chips are solid units, so an intermediate shade means cutting them, and cut chips are not repeatable.

How much a month? At 1,000 candles in one mid shade, about 92 g — one 100 size bottle at ₹900.
The short answer
Wholesale liquid dye pricing: ₹236.00 / ₹472.00 / ₹900.00 for 15, 50 and 100 on the blue, red, purple, green and yellow listings — ₹9.00 per unit at the 100 size.
Dye chips are ₹236.00–₹250.00 per listing; mica starts at ₹57.82 / 10 g standard and ₹116.82 / 10 g premium. Mica is a surface pigment, not a dye — it belongs on the outside.
The method that matters: set the dose as a percentage of wax weight, weigh it, record it per SKU, and re-test the shade whenever you change wax — the same dose reads differently in soy, coconut-soy and paraffin.

Straight answer
How should a candle business buy dye at wholesale volume?
Buy few colours, in the largest pack of each you genuinely use, and spend the saved attention on dosing. Liquid dye is ₹236.00 for 15, ₹472.00 for 50 and ₹900.00 for 100 on the main colour family — ₹15.73, ₹9.44 and ₹9.00 per unit, so the 100 size is the volume tier and a 43% per-unit saving. Chips run ₹236.00–₹250.00 and mica starts at ₹57.82 / 10 g. Which type suits which candle is on buy candle dye online in India; this page is about running them at volume. What matters is not which bottle you buy but how you dose it: fix a percentage against wax weight, weigh it on a scale, record it beside the wick size and fragrance load, and re-test whenever the wax changes. Dye is 0.31% of cost of goods. A colour mismatch across a 500-jar order is 100% of the reorder.
One line: dye costs ₹0.83 a candle — buy enough of the few colours you use, dose by weight against wax weight, record it per SKU. The money is in consistency, never the price of the bottle.
The 100 tier is the one to be on: ₹900.00 for 100 is ₹9.00 per unit against ₹15.73 at the 15 size — roughly 1,000 two-hundred-gram candles from one bottle at a mid shade.

Dye is the cheapest line in the candle

Work out what the colour in your candle actually costs and the argument about dye prices collapses. It is not a line worth negotiating. It is a line worth never getting wrong.

An ordinary commercial candle: 200 g in a glass jar at an 8% load, so 184 g of wax and 16 g of oil, every component priced at the volume tier a working business buys. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at ₹5,999 / 10 kg is ₹0.5999 a gram: 184 g = ₹110.38. Sandalwood Fragrance Oil at ₹5,026.80 / kg: 16 g = ₹80.43. A White Matte Glass Jar at ₹708.00 per 10 = ₹70.80. An Eco Candle Wick Thin (C1) = ₹5.90.

Now the dye. A mid shade at 0.05% of wax weight is 0.092 g. Liquid dye at the 100 tier is ₹900.00, or ₹9.00 per unit: ₹0.83. A pastel at 0.02% is ₹0.33; a deep shade at 0.10% is ₹1.66. No usable dose costs two rupees.

Cost of goods · one 200 g soy candle · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Every line priced at the volume tier, largest first
Line What it is Cost Share
Wax 184 g Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at ₹5,999 / 10 kg ₹110.38 41.1%
Fragrance 16 g Sandalwood at ₹5,026.80 / 1 kg (8% load) ₹80.43 30.0%
Jar 1 White Matte Glass Jar at ₹708.00 / 10 ₹70.80 26.4%
Wick 1 Eco Candle Wick Thin (C1) at ₹590.00 / 100 ₹5.90 2.2%
Dye 0.092 g liquid dye at ₹900.00 / 100 (0.05% of wax weight) ₹0.83 0.31%

₹268.34 in total, of which eighty paise is colour. Two conclusions follow.

One: never economise on colour. A dye 30% cheaper saves 25 paise a candle — ₹250 across a thousand, less than one 15 size bottle, for a week of sourcing attention. A dye that mixes unevenly or reads differently between lots costs you a rejected corporate order. The cheapest input is the worst place to introduce risk. Put that effort into verifying wax quality instead.

Two: never let a dye shortage stop a batch. Run out of purple on a Thursday with a Saturday dispatch and what has stopped is not an eighty-paise line — it is ₹268 of goods per candle, a day of labour and a delivery date. One spare bottle of every colour you pour is the cheapest insurance in the workshop: at ₹236.00 for a 15 size, a four-colour safety shelf is ₹944.00 standing permanently against a missed dispatch. Buy the spare.
Where the savings actually are
Go where the mass is. Moving from Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at ₹5,999/10 kg to CSI 464 at ₹5,074/10 kg takes the wax line from ₹110.38 to ₹93.36 — ₹17.02 a candle, twenty times the whole dye line. Swapping to Citrus Lemon at ₹2,832/kg takes 16 g of fragrance from ₹80.43 to ₹45.31. Those are real trade-offs. Dye is not. Method in how to price candles in India 2026.

Colour consistency across batches is the real production problem

Nobody has ever returned a candle because the dye was expensive. They return them because the second box does not match the first.

At ten candles a week you can eyeball colour: the week's output sits on one table in one light. At a thousand a month you cannot. Production is poured across days, at different room temperatures, sometimes by different hands, and the customer sees the jars side by side. The failure mode at volume is not bad colour. It is drift — batch three a shade deeper than batch one, unnoticed at the bench, obvious to the client who ordered 500 matching jars.

Drift has one dominant cause: dosing in drops. A drop is not a unit — its volume changes with the nozzle, with how full the bottle is, with room temperature and therefore flow, with squeeze pressure, and with who is holding it. Drops are how hobby colour is dosed. Weight is how production colour is dosed.

1
Express the dose as a percentage of wax weight, not candle weightWax carries the colour; fragrance oil does no colour work and is not part of the calculation. Fix the shade as a percentage of the wax going into the pour — roughly 0.02% pastel, 0.05% mid, 0.10% deep, as a band to test against rather than a specification. On a 5 kg melt at 0.05% that is 2.5 g. It scales linearly: the same percentage gives the same shade for two jars or two hundred.
2
Weigh it into the melt, every timePut the pitcher on a weighing scale at ₹354.00, tare, dispense to target. Then disperse properly — a bamboo stirring stick suits a jug, but on a 5 or 10 kg melt a CSI Pro Mixer at ₹349.00 prevents a colour gradient down the pitcher, where the first jars come out darker than the last.
3
Record it per SKU, beside the wick and the loadOne line per product: wax and pack size, fragrance and load, wick type and size, jar diameter, and dye colour, exact product handle, and dose as a percentage of wax weight. Write the handle, not just the colour — CSI carries more than one black and more than one brown at different prices, so "black dye" is not a reproducible instruction.
4
Re-check the colour whenever the wax changes — as you re-check the wickEvery maker knows a wax change means a new wick test. Far fewer treat it as a colour event, and it is exactly as much of one: a new base colour, a new opacity and a new crystal structure, so your recorded 0.05% will not land on the same shade. Pour a dip test, let it set fully, compare against a retained sample in daylight, and adjust before the run.

Step four surprises people. You never see the dye. You see it through the wax, and the three common waxes present it differently. Soy sets opaque and cream-toned and crystallises as it cools; that surface scatters light, so the colour reads paler and chalkier. Coconut-soy sets whiter and smoother, so the same dose reads cleaner. Paraffin sets translucent, so light passes through the body and the identical dose reads deeper and truer to the pigment.

The same dye dose, three waxes
Why a wax change is a colour change · direction of effect, not a measurement — run your own dip test
Wax How it sets What the same dose tends to read as From
Luxury Soy Wax Chunks Opaque, cream-toned, crystallises and can frost over the cure Softer and paler — pastels come easily, deep saturated shades are hard work ₹299.00 / 500 g
Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 Whiter and smoother, less surface crystallisation Cleaner and more even than soy at the same dose; better for precise brand colours ₹325.00 / 500 g
Fully Refined Paraffin Wax Pellets Translucent, near-colourless, no frosting Deeper and more saturated — you will usually need less dye, not more ₹354.00 / 1 kg

Time matters too: soy keeps crystallising for days, so a jar judged at four hours and the same jar at two weeks are not the same surface. Judge colour on a fully cured candle, in daylight, against a retained reference jar — one sealed, dated reference per SKU settles every argument about drift.

A few drops is a recipe. A percentage of wax weight is a specification. Only one of them survives being handed to somebody else.

Liquid versus chips at production volume

Both colour a candle. Only one of them lets you hit the same shade on a Tuesday in January and a Friday in May without thinking about it.

Which colourant type suits which candle is covered on buy candle dye online in India; in one sentence, liquid dyes and chips both dissolve into the wax and colour the candle through its body, and mica does neither. The production question is which of the two doses repeatably at hundreds of jars a week. Liquid dye is continuously dispensable — put the pitcher on a scale and stop at 2.5 g, or 2.8 g, or 3.1 g, so the dose can be the number you wrote down. Chips are discrete. If one chip in 5 kg is too pale and two too dark, you cut a chip — and a hand-broken half chip is not a repeatable quantity — or redesign the batch around it.

Question Liquid dye Dye chips
Can you hit an arbitrary target dose? Yes — weigh it, stop where you like Only in whole units, or by cutting
Repeatability across operators High — the instruction is a number on a scale Good when the dose is whole chips, poor when it is not
Does it need a melt-in step? No — it disperses into hot wax directly Yes — solid pigment must fully melt before pouring or you get specks
Shade-matching a brand colour Easier — you can move the dose in fine increments Harder — increments are chip-sized
Scaling the same shade from 1 kg to 10 kg Multiply the percentage. Linear Multiply the chip count, if the arithmetic lands whole
Best fit Production runs, multi-SKU ranges, custom colours, anything a client signs off on A fixed melt weight and a fixed house shade, poured the same way every time
CSI price ₹236.00 / ₹472.00 / ₹900.00 by size ₹236.00–₹250.00 per colour

At 500 candles a month or more: standardise on liquid, in the 100 size, in as few colours as you can live with. Keep chips if a house shade already lands on a whole number per standard melt. Do not start a new multi-SKU range on chips, and do not shade-match a client's brand colour with them.

Mica at volume — the warning again, briefly, because it costs more at 1,000 candles than at ten. Mica is a surface pigment, not a dye. It does not dissolve; it sits suspended and settles. Stirred into a container candle it drifts downward as the wax sets, so top and bottom differ, and it is drawn up the wick, where it does not burn — particles accumulate, choke the flame, and you get a small pool, soot and a complaint. Mica belongs on the outside: over a set top, brushed into moulded or pillar detail, on warmed wax melts, or on unwicked pieces. Used in the wax body it is a defect you added on purpose.
The CSI principle
Colour that goes through the candle is a dye. Colour that goes on the candle is a pigment. Putting a pigment through the candle is how you break a wick.
For metallic or pearlescent on a wicked candle, put the shimmer on the surface and the colour underneath it with a liquid dye — both effects, and the wick never meets a solid particle. Wick guide by diameter.

How much dye a month — and why you should not bulk-buy it

Run the numbers before placing a wholesale order; they are smaller than people expect. At the working dose used throughout this page — 0.05% of wax weight, 0.092 g per candle — here is what a month consumes.

Monthly dye consumption · 200 g candles at 0.05% of wax weight
Single colour, then the realistic four-colour split
Monthly output Dye used What to buy Monthly dye spend Dye as % of the wax bill
100 candles 9.2 g One 50 size, ₹472.00 — lasts about five months ≈₹87 0.8%
500 candles 46 g One 100 size, ₹900.00 — lasts about two months ≈₹414 0.8%
1,000 candles 92 g One 100 size, ₹900.00 — about one month ≈₹828 0.8%
1,000 candles across 4 colours 23 g per colour One 50 size per colour, 4 × ₹472.00 — about two months' cover ≈₹868 0.8%

A business pouring 1,000 candles a month buys 184 kg of wax — ₹110,382 at Luxury Soy Chunks pricing. Its dye bill is ₹828, one ₹900.00 bottle. Over a year that is a little over 1.1 kg of dye, eleven 100 size bottles, ₹9,900, against a wax spend above ₹13 lakh. The whole year's colour fits in a shoebox. That is the context for any conversation about bulk dye pricing, and why the honest answer is usually no.

Three reasons dye is the wrong thing to stockpile
1. The volume tier is already the ceiling. ₹15.73 per unit at 15 to ₹9.00 at 100 is a 43% saving, and there is no larger published size to climb to. Get on the 100 tier for your core colours and stop. 2. Your colour range changes faster than a big stock does. You do not know today which shades next year's festive collection uses. Wax and jars you will always need; a year of one specific purple you may not. 3. Cash in dye buys nothing. The same ₹10,000 in wax or jars is throughput you can convert into orders.

The rule is short. Two months of cover on the colours you pour, one spare small bottle of each as shortage insurance, nothing else. Review it when the range changes, not on a calendar. The operational side is in scaling to 1,000 orders a month, the wider sourcing picture in wholesale candle making raw materials across India.

The part that costs us money to write: do not buy the full colour range. Eleven liquid dye listings are in stock and we would be delighted to sell you one of each. It is the wrong purchase. A range with eleven colours is not a range, it is a swatch book — it multiplies SKUs, photography, stock-keeping and dead inventory. Buy black, buy the one or two colours your brand identity uses, add a third if a collection needs it, leave the rest. You can order any colour later; a bottle ships and needs no cure.
And the more uncomfortable one: uncoloured candles sell perfectly well. Natural soy sets to a soft cream, and much of the premium market is deliberately undyed, because natural wax colour signals natural wax. Dye does nothing for hot throw, burn quality or cure time; it is purely aesthetic, and a well-made cream candle in a good jar beats a badly-dyed one every time. If you cannot yet run a controlled dip test for every wax you use, launch undyed. Colour that drifts is worse than no colour.
The cheapest ingredient in the candle is the one most capable of ruining a five-hundred-jar order.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. On a dye page the commercially useful move would be to talk you into a full colour range and a stockpile. We have done the opposite, because the arithmetic does not support it — and a maker who buys eleven bottles they never use stops trusting the shop.

Every price here comes from live CSI stock in September 2026 and links to the product page, where current pricing, pack size and availability take precedence. Where a listing is inconsistent we have said so rather than quoting it: the Candle Dye Liquid Brown 100 price, the two separate black and brown listings at different prices, the unsized Pink variant, the chip listings with no stated pack weight, and the Yellow Mica product on a "black-mica" handle. Orange and Silver mica were out of stock on the pull date and are marked as such.

The 0.02% / 0.05% / 0.10% dosing band is a starting point for your own dip tests, not a manufacturer specification, and shade outcomes by wax are direction of effect, not measurements. Frequently asked questions

How much does candle dye cost per candle in India?
About ₹0.83 for a mid shade in a 200 g soy candle — 0.092 g of liquid dye at the ₹900.00 / 100 tier. A pastel is around ₹0.33, a deep shade ₹1.66. The wax in that candle is ₹110.38, the fragrance ₹80.43, the jar ₹70.80. Dye is roughly 0.31% of cost of goods, which is why it is never the line to economise on.
How do I keep candle colour consistent from batch to batch?
Stop dosing in drops. Express the dose as a percentage of wax weight — not candle weight, since fragrance oil does no colour work — weigh it into the melt on a scale, and record the exact product handle and percentage per SKU. Keep one sealed, dated reference jar per SKU and judge new batches against it in daylight, fully cured.
Why does the same dye look different in soy and paraffin?
Because you see the dye through the wax. Soy sets opaque and cream-toned and crystallises as it cools; that surface scatters light, so the colour reads paler. Coconut-soy sets whiter and smoother, so the same dose reads cleaner. Paraffin sets translucent, so light passes through and the identical dose reads deeper. Treat a wax change as a colour event as well as a wick event and re-run a dip test before the run.
Should I use liquid dye or dye chips for a production run?
Liquid. It weighs to any target, so an arbitrary shade is reproducible and scales linearly from a 1 kg melt to a 10 kg one. Chips are discrete — an intermediate shade means cutting one, and a hand-broken chip is not repeatable — and they need full melt-in time or you get specks. Chips suit one fixed melt weight and one house shade; liquid is the answer for multi-SKU ranges and client colour matching.
Can I put mica powder inside a candle?
Not in the wax body of a wicked candle. Mica is a surface pigment, not a dye — it does not dissolve, so it settles as the wax sets and is drawn up the wick, where solid particles accumulate, choke the flame and cause soot. Use it on the outside: over a set top, brushed into moulded detail, on pillars, or on warmed wax melts. For colour through the body, use a liquid dye and put the shimmer on top.
Should I buy candle dye in bulk?
Usually no. At 1,000 candles a month you use about 92 g — ₹828 of dye, one 100 size bottle at ₹900.00, against a wax bill of ₹110,382. ₹9.00 per unit is already the best published price, so there is no bigger discount to climb to, and your colour range will change before a large stock is used. Hold two months of cover on the colours you pour, plus one spare small bottle of each, and put the cash into wax and jars.

Dye chips ₹250.00 (Red, Yellow, Blue) and ₹236.00 (Green, Black, Brown), all in stock, with no pack weight stated on the listings. Cost-per-candle assumes a 200 g finished candle: 184 g Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at ₹5,999.00 / 10 kg (₹0.5999/g) = ₹110.38; 16 g Sandalwood Fragrance Oil at ₹5,026.80 / 1 kg (₹5.0268/g) at an 8% load = ₹80.43; one White Matte Glass Jar at ₹708.00 / 10 = ₹70.80; one Eco Candle Wick Thin (C1) at ₹590.00 / 100 = ₹5.90; 0.092 g liquid dye at ₹9.00 per unit = ₹0.83; total ₹268.34. The Candle Dyes collection held 25 products on the pull date. The 0.02% / 0.05% / 0.10% dosing band is a practical starting point for your own testing, not a manufacturer specification, and the wax-by-wax shade descriptions state direction of effect, not measured results.
