Best Candle Fragrances for Spas, Salons and Studios
What should each venue burn? Spa: Lavender ₹540/100g, Jasmine Coconut Spa Ceylon ₹799, Sandalwood ₹503, Palo Santo ₹602, Ylang Ylang Flower ₹590, Neroli ₹666, Cucumber Green Tea ₹353, Sage and Cedarwood ₹696. Salon: Lemongrass and Lime ₹590, Verbena ₹590, Citrus Lemon ₹300, Eucalyptus Spearmint ₹354, Blue Ocean ₹495, Bergamot Amber ₹560, Grapefruit Oleo ₹341. Studio: Sandalwood, Palo Santo, Frankincense and Tonka ₹4,035/1kg, Cucumber Green Tea, Vetiver ₹600, Sage and Cedarwood.
What does the account actually earn? A three-room spa at 34 votives and two jars a month costs about ₹4,043 in materials and bills about ₹7,480 at trade prices. A ten-position venue costs about ₹22,136 and bills about ₹34,845.
What do they buy besides candles? Flame-free. A 120ml reed diffuser costs about ₹502 in materials, a 50ml room spray about ₹160, and wax melt containers start at ₹148 per pack of 5.
Three venues, three scent problems
Every candle maker who has tried to sell into this market has done the same thing at least once: built one beautiful "spa collection", printed one price list, and walked it into a spa, a salon and a studio expecting the same reception. The spa asked whether it could still be supplied in 2029. The salon burned it for twenty minutes and could not smell it over the colour bar. The studio asked whether anyone in a class of thirty could react to it. Three different objections, none of which the collection was designed to answer.
The spa's constraint is time. A treatment room's scent is not decoration; it is part of the service memory a returning client is paying for. If the scent changes between visits, the experience has changed. That makes reformulation risk the buyer's real fear, and it makes your ability to guarantee the same oil, the same load and the same cure schedule for years the strongest thing you can say in the room. It also means the spa buys depth in one or two scents, not breadth across eight — which is precisely why 500g and 1kg sizes matter more here than anywhere else in your business.
The salon's constraint is chemistry. Ammonia-based colour, bleach lifting, keratin services and acetone all put strong, persistent molecules into a room that is also busy, warm and frequently ventilated by an extractor. A soft jasmine has no chance in that air. What survives is a scent with genuine projection and a register that reads as clean rather than sweet — citrus, herbal, marine and crisp amber. A sweet gourmand in a salon does not mask the chemical note; it sits on top of it and produces something worse than either alone.
The studio's constraint is people. Thirty bodies breathing deeply for sixty minutes in a closed room is the most sensitive environment of the three. Intensity that reads as pleasant in a reception is oppressive on a mat. Add that many studios will not permit an open flame anywhere near mats, props or a class in motion, and the studio brief becomes: quiet, grounding, unobtrusive, ideally flame-free, and fully disclosed so anyone with a known sensitivity can make their own decision before class.
The three shelves, with prices
All prices are CSI live pricing as of August 2026. The cost-per-candle column assumes a 200g finished candle at an 8% fragrance load — 16g of oil, 184g of wax — priced at the 1kg rate, plus a fixed base cost of ₹163.30 for wax, wick and jar. That base is 184g of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at ₹110.20, one Eco Candle Wick Thin (C1) at ₹5.90, and an Amber Shiny Glass Jar at ₹47.20.
The spa shelf — bought for continuity
| Fragrance | 100g | 500g | 1kg | Oil / candle | Materials / candle |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cucumber Green Tea | ₹353 | ₹1,664 | ₹3,328 | ₹53.25 | ₹216.55 |
| Sandalwood | ₹503 | ₹2,513 | ₹5,027 | ₹80.43 | ₹243.73 |
| Lavender | ₹540 | ₹2,620 | ₹5,221 | ₹83.54 | ₹246.84 |
| Ylang Ylang Flower | ₹590 | ₹2,714 | ₹5,310 | ₹84.96 | ₹248.26 |
| Palo Santo | ₹602 | ₹3,009 | ₹6,018 | ₹96.29 | ₹259.59 |
| Neroli | ₹666 | ₹3,328 | ₹6,655 | ₹106.48 | ₹269.78 |
| Sage and Cedarwood | ₹696 | ₹2,584 | ₹6,868 | ₹109.89 | ₹273.19 |
| Jasmine Coconut Spa Ceylon | ₹799 | ₹3,999 | ₹7,999 | ₹127.98 | ₹291.28 |
Note the shape of that table: Sage and Cedarwood is cheaper at 500g (₹2,584) than Palo Santo, Neroli or Jasmine Coconut Spa Ceylon, but more expensive at 1kg (₹6,868). If a spa contract commits you to one signature scent in real volume, check the 500g and 1kg rows individually rather than assuming the 100g ranking holds. It frequently does not.
| Size | Price | Per gram | 200g candles @ 8% |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15g | ₹133 | ₹8.87 | ≈1 |
| 50g | ₹399 | ₹7.98 | ≈3 |
| 100g | ₹799 | ₹7.99 | ≈6 |
| 500g | ₹3,999 | ₹8.00 | ≈31 |
| 1kg | ₹7,999 | ₹8.00 | ≈62 |
The salon shelf — bought for projection
| Fragrance | 100g | 500g | 1kg | Oil / candle | Materials / candle |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Citrus Lemon | ₹300 | ₹1,420 | ₹2,832 | ₹45.31 | ₹208.61 |
| Grapefruit Oleo | ₹341 | — | ₹3,407 | ₹54.51 | ₹217.81 |
| Eucalyptus Spearmint | ₹354 | ₹1,652 | ₹3,068 | ₹49.09 | ₹212.39 |
| Blue Ocean | ₹495 | ₹2,478 | ₹4,956 | ₹79.30 | ₹242.60 |
| Bergamot Amber | ₹560 | ₹2,718 | ₹5,437 | ₹86.99 | ₹250.29 |
| Verbena | ₹590 | ₹2,478 | ₹4,720 | ₹75.52 | ₹238.82 |
| Lemongrass and Lime | ₹590 | ₹2,600 | ₹5,200 | ₹83.20 | ₹246.50 |
Grapefruit Oleo ships in 50g, 100g and 1kg only — there is no 500g step — so a salon account that grows past 100g jumps straight to a kilogram. Plan that jump deliberately rather than discovering it mid-contract. Verbena is the quiet value pick on this shelf: it costs the same as Lemongrass and Lime at 100g but is ₹480 cheaper per kilogram, which on a 190-unit-a-month salon chain is real money.
| Size | Price | Per gram | 200g candles @ 8% |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15g | ₹117 | ₹7.80 | ≈1 |
| 50g | ₹330 | ₹6.60 | ≈3 |
| 100g | ₹590 | ₹5.90 | ≈6 |
| 500g | ₹2,600 | ₹5.20 | ≈31 |
| 1kg | ₹5,200 | ₹5.20 | ≈62 |
The studio shelf — bought for restraint
| Fragrance | 100g | 500g | 1kg | Oil / candle | Materials / candle |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cucumber Green Tea | ₹353 | ₹1,664 | ₹3,328 | ₹53.25 | ₹216.55 |
| Sandalwood | ₹503 | ₹2,513 | ₹5,027 | ₹80.43 | ₹243.73 |
| Vetiver | ₹600 | ₹2,900 | ₹5,664 | ₹90.62 | ₹253.92 |
| Palo Santo | ₹602 | ₹3,009 | ₹6,018 | ₹96.29 | ₹259.59 |
| Sage and Cedarwood | ₹696 | ₹2,584 | ₹6,868 | ₹109.89 | ₹273.19 |
| Frankincense and Tonka | — | — | ₹4,035 | ₹64.56 | ₹227.86 |
Frankincense and Tonka is the outlier worth understanding. It ships as a 1kg unit at ₹4,035 and nothing smaller, which makes it useless as a sample but excellent as a contracted scent: at ₹4.04 per gram it is the cheapest woody-resinous option on this shelf by a wide margin, cheaper per candle than Sandalwood, Vetiver, Palo Santo and Sage and Cedarwood. If a studio group signs for volume, this is the one that protects your margin — but you cannot pitch it from a 15g bottle, so pitch Palo Santo or Vetiver and propose Frankincense and Tonka as the contracted variant once the scale is agreed.
| Size | Price | Per gram | 200g candles @ 8% |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15g | ₹106 | ₹7.07 | ≈1 |
| 50g | ₹301 | ₹6.02 | ≈3 |
| 100g | ₹602 | ₹6.02 | ≈6 |
| 500g | ₹3,009 | ₹6.02 | ≈31 |
| 1kg | ₹6,018 | ₹6.02 | ≈62 |
The flame-free range they will actually buy
This is the section most candle makers skip and then lose the account over. A therapist working alone in a treatment room cannot watch a flame. A studio will often refuse any flame near mats, props or a class in motion. A salon has open flame sitting a few feet from aerosols and alcohol-based products. In every one of those rooms the answer is not a better candle — it is a flame-free format, and if you cannot supply one, someone else will and they will take the candle order with them.
| Format | Build | Materials | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 120ml reed diffuser | 96ml Pure Performance Reed Base (₹210.98) + 24g oil at 20% (₹120.65 with Sandalwood) + 120ml bottle (₹106.20) + 8 fibre reeds (₹64) | ₹501.83 | Treatment rooms, studio entrances, salon washrooms |
| 50ml room & linen spray | 44g Room & Linen Spray Base (₹87.91) + 6g oil (₹30.16) + 50ml bottle (₹42) | ₹160.07 | Between-client resets, linen, mats, salon chairs |
| 50g wax melt pack | 45g wax (₹27) + 5g oil at 10% (₹25.14) + melt container at pack-of-100 rate (₹29.50) | ₹81.64 | Rooms that want scent on demand, switched on and off |
| Elegant Ceramic Wax Warmer | Resold as-is with the melt programme | ₹519 | Electric — the safest option for an unattended room |
| Arch Ceramic Burner | Resold as-is; uses a tealight beneath | ₹224 | Reception and lounge, where staff are present |
Two things to be honest about when you quote these. First, an Arch Ceramic Burner still uses a tealight, so it is not flame-free — offer the Elegant Ceramic Wax Warmer at ₹519 for the rooms that genuinely cannot have one. Second, a reed diffuser does not switch off. In a treatment room that is the point; in a small studio it can mean the scent is there when nobody wants it, which is why melts on an electric warmer often win the studio order even though the diffuser is the easier sale.
Winning and keeping the account
The fragrance shortlist is the easy half. What decides whether you hold a wellness account for three years is the machinery around it: who you speak to, what you put in their hands, how you price, how you replenish, and what paperwork you can produce on the day they ask for it.
Per-unit pricing and volume tiers
Two formats do almost all the work. The 70g room votive is the consumable: 5.6g of oil and 64.4g of wax at an 8% load, in a Clear Glass Votive Jar at ₹31.90 each in packs of ten, with a wick at ₹5.90 and wax at ₹38.64 — ₹104.59 in materials using Sandalwood at 1kg pricing. The 200g branded jar is the showpiece for reception and the retail shelf, at ₹243.73 on the same oil. Everything below is your trade price to the venue, not CSI pricing, and it is illustrative — set your own from your own real cost sheet.
| Monthly units | 70g room votive | Margin over materials | 200g branded jar | Margin over materials |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1–49 | ₹210 | 50% | ₹450 | 46% |
| 50–149 | ₹185 | 43% | ₹425 | 43% |
| 150–299 | ₹165 | 37% | ₹390 | 37% |
| 300+ | ₹150 | 30% | ₹360 | 32% |
Those margins are thinner than retail, and they should be. A retail candle carries your marketing cost, your photography, your marketplace commission and your returns; a contracted venue candle carries almost none of that. What you are buying with the discount is predictability — a known quantity on a known date, poured in one batch, delivered in one drop. If a tier ever falls below about 30% over materials, you are subsidising the venue, and the correct response is a smaller format or a cheaper oil, not a smaller margin.
Monthly replenishment maths
Never quote a wellness account "per box". Quote it from burn hours, which is the only number that predicts anything. Working assumptions: a 200g soy container candle gives roughly 40 burn hours and a 70g votive roughly 14, both with a correctly sized wick.
| Line | Small: 3-room spa + reception | Large: 10-position spa or salon chain |
|---|---|---|
| Burn pattern | 4 positions × 6 hrs × 26 days = 468 hrs | 10 positions × 9 hrs × 30 days = 2,700 hrs |
| 70g votives | 34 units | 193 units |
| 200g jars | 2 units | 8 units |
| Fragrance oil | 190.4g + 32g = 222.4g | 1,080.8g + 128g = 1,208.8g |
| Order size to buy | 500g every two months | 1kg every month |
| Wax required | ≈2.42 kg | ≈13.90 kg |
| Your materials cost | ₹3,556.06 + ₹487.46 = ₹4,043.52 | ₹20,185.87 + ₹1,949.84 = ₹22,135.71 |
| Billed at trade tiers | 34 × ₹195 + 2 × ₹425 = ₹7,480 | 193 × ₹165 + 8 × ₹375 = ₹34,845 |
| Gross contribution | ₹3,436.48 a month | ₹12,709.29 a month |
Two conclusions fall straight out of that table. The small account pays back three pitch kits (₹3,168) in its first month, which is the real argument for pitching aggressively rather than waiting for enquiries. And the large account consumes 1.21kg of oil a month, or roughly 14.5kg a year — at which point you are no longer buying 100g bottles, you are a bulk buyer, and you should be pricing your oil accordingly. Message the bulk line before you sign a contract that size, not after.
The retail partnership — the highest-margin version
A client who has just had ninety minutes of treatment in a room that smells of your candle is the warmest buyer that candle will ever meet. The retail leg turns that into revenue without a single rupee of your marketing spend: the venue buys your 200g branded jar at ₹390–₹450 and sells it at its own price, typically ₹799–₹999, and the label can carry both names. Offer a small opening consignment of six to twelve units so the venue risks nothing, agree a restock trigger rather than a schedule, and give them a shelf card that names the scent they already burn. Reed diffusers sell exceptionally well on this leg because a client can take the room home without a flame, and at ₹501.83 in materials against a ₹850 trade price they carry the best margin of anything you will supply.
The documentation set
Professional buyers ask for paper, and the maker who produces it on the spot wins against two makers who say they will send it later. Carry a GST invoice format, an MSDS or safety data sheet for every fragrance oil you use, an IFRA certificate where applicable, and a batch or lot number logged against each delivery. Add a written allergen statement and a burn-safety card supplied with every unit — Candle Care Stickers cost ₹413 per 500. Ask your fragrance supplier for these before you quote, not after you win; the full checklist of what to request and what each document actually proves is in what documents to ask for when buying candle fragrance oil.
Wax, load and cost per candle
Commercial supply changes what you want from a wax. You are pouring in batches, to a fixed date, with a scent that must match last month's — so consistency of finish and a comfortable load ceiling matter more than a marginally cheaper kilo. Every oil above is formulated for candle applications and works across the CSI soy range; the wax sets your maximum load, and the load is what determines throw.
| Wax | Best for | Load | From |
|---|---|---|---|
| Luxury Soy Wax Chunks | The default for votive and jar production; headroom to push salon citrus higher | Up to 13% | ₹299 / 500g |
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (flakes) | Single-pour batches, low frosting, strong glass adhesion — the tidiest finish for a reception shelf | Up to 10% | ₹260 / 500g |
| Eco Soy CSI 400 | Small-batch votives; creamy one-pour finish, no additives, fragrance in at 80–90°C with two minutes of stirring | Standard | ₹399 / 1kg |
| Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 | The premium retail-partnership jar; smoother finish and a softer, fuller throw | Standard | ₹325 / 500g |
| Soy Pillar Wax | Moulded and designer pieces for a spa's display or gifting range | Standard | ₹300 / 500g |
Order sizing follows the account, not the calendar. 100g is the pitch size — six 200g candles or about eighteen 70g votives, which is more than enough to sample three venues. 500g is the size for a signed small account: 31 jars or roughly 89 votives, which covers a three-room spa for two months. 1kg is the size for a contracted scent — 62 jars or roughly 178 votives — and it is also where the per-gram price is lowest, which on a signature scent you will pour every month for years is the only sane way to buy. Pair everything with Eco Candle Wicks sized to the jar diameter; if a venue reports weak throw, work through the weak throw diagnosis guide before you blame the oil.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. We are not competing with you for the spa contract, and we have no reason to steer you toward an expensive oil — we stock 92 of them from ₹300 to ₹24,000 per kilogram, plus the diffuser bases, spray bases, warmers and burners that the flame-free half of this business runs on. What we see is the order data: which oils move from 100g to 1kg, which sizes get reordered on a monthly rhythm, and which accounts scale.
Every price, size and product link here is live CSI stock in August 2026 and links to the product page, where current pricing always takes precedence. Cost-per-unit figures are calculated from named inputs so you can rebuild them against your own vessel and wick. The trade price ladder is illustrative — it is your margin decision, not ours. Nothing in this guide makes a therapeutic, medical or wellbeing claim about any fragrance, and neither should your pitch: describe character and association, disclose ingredients and allergens, and let the venue tell its clients what is being used.

Figures verified August 2026: All fragrance oil prices are live CSI pricing across 15g, 50g, 100g, 500g and 1kg where those sizes exist — Grapefruit Oleo has no 500g size, Sage and Cedarwood no 15g size, and Frankincense and Tonka ships as a 1kg unit only. Cost-per-candle assumes a 200g finished candle at an 8% fragrance load (16g oil, 184g wax) with Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at ₹5,999/10kg (₹0.60/g), Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) at ₹590 per 100, and an Amber Shiny Glass Jar at ₹236 per pack of 5, giving a base of ₹163.30. The 70g votive assumes the Clear Glass Votive Jar at ₹319 per pack of 10. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated to a 13% fragrance load and Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 to 10%; always work to the ceiling stated on the wax you buy. Eco Soy CSI 400 specifies fragrance addition at 80–90°C with two minutes of stirring. Burn-hour figures (≈40 hours for a 200g jar, ≈14 for a 70g votive) and the 14-day cure reflect standard practice for soy container candles with a correctly sized wick and will vary with wick, vessel and room. Trade prices and margin percentages are illustrative examples of a maker's own pricing, not CSI pricing. Prices and availability change — the linked product pages are always authoritative.
