How Do I Find a Pouring Temperature That Gives Both Good Jar Adhesion and Commercially Acceptable Candle Tops?
शेयर करना
Which temperatures do I test? Only the wax page's own figures. For Chunks: 70, 75 and 80°C (page steps 70–80°C, spec table 75–80°C).
How do I pick the setpoint? The middle of the window — then confirm your actual pour spread fits inside it.
What does it cost? ₹3,396.02 for round 1; all three rounds at most ₹11,444.88. See the kits.
Find a window, not a number — with a three-rung ladder
Two faults pull your pour temperature in opposite directions. Wet spots are commonly linked to wax meeting glass that is much colder than it, so in many jars adhesion improves as the pour gets hotter. Tops are commonly reported to set flatter and smoother as the pour gets cooler, because there is less heat to lose and less sinking at the wick. Somewhere between the two there may be a band where both pass. That band — the pour window — is what you are looking for. A single "perfect temperature" from a forum or a friend is someone else's window in someone else's jar. Pour temperature is the fourth suspect on the section's diagnosis order, after cleanliness and glass temperature, so clear those first if you have not.
The ladder method finds it in two short rounds. Round one pours three rungs spaced evenly across the wax page's own figures. You read the lowest rung that passes on the glass and the highest rung that passes on top. If those overlap, the window lies between them, and round two refines its edges with half-steps. Then a confirmation round on another day pours twenty jars at the middle of the window and checks one thing that is easy to forget: whether your bench can actually hold a temperature that precisely.
The rungs come from CSI's own product page for Luxury Soy Wax Chunks. Its spec table gives a pour temperature of 75–80°C, and its step list shows 70–80°C, with fragrance added at 80–90°C. So this ladder runs 70, 75 and 80°C — nothing outside the page's figures. The 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar has no published hot-pour limit; follow the jar supplier's guidance, and at 80°C you are well within what CSI's own Clear 150 g jar page allows ("safe for hot pour up to 85°C").
| Edge | Found by | What sets it | What moves it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lower edge | The lowest rung where every jar passes your sides line | Glass adhesion | Warmer glass, slower cooling, cleaner glass can move it down |
| Upper edge | The highest rung where every jar passes your top line | Top finish | Even, sheltered cooling can move it up |
| Window | Lower edge to upper edge | Both | Wider is better — it tolerates real-life drift |
| Setpoint | The middle of the window | Margin both ways | Re-check when season, jar or wax lot changes |
| No overlap | Lower edge above upper edge | Temperature cannot do both | Split the job: warm glass for the sides — balancing tops and adhesion |
Round 1: three rungs across the page's range
The example is a maker pouring Blue Ocean at 8% in Luxury Soy Wax Chunks into the 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar. The Salsa's 200 ml is brim volume; its fill weight is not published, so this page uses an illustrative 160 g candle — 12.8 g of oil and 147.2 g of wax. Weigh your own fill. Glass is held in one state for every rung — the way you prepare it now, room temperature or warmed — because this ladder tests the wax temperature only.
Five jars per rung, because the Salsa jar comes in packs of five and because a window edge is only real if every jar at that rung passes — three jars make that too easy to pass by luck. If a rung has four passes and one failure, it is not an edge yet; treat it as "borderline" and include it in round two.
The ladder sheet
| Jar | Rung | Wax °C actual | Clock time | Sides 48 h / 7 d | Top 48 h / 7 d | Passes sides? | Passes top? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 01–05 | 70°C | ___ each | ___ | 0–4 / 0–4 | 0–3 / 0–3 | __ of 5 | __ of 5 |
| 06–10 | 75°C | ___ each | ___ | __ of 5 | __ of 5 | ||
| 11–15 | 80°C | ___ each | ___ | __ of 5 | __ of 5 | ||
| Edges | Lower edge: lowest rung with 5 of 5 | Upper edge: highest rung with 5 of 5 |
Write the rung, not the target, from what the thermometer showed: if your "75°C" jars were really 73–76°C, put that range on the sheet. It is the first measurement of your process spread, which you will need in the confirmation round.
Round 2: refine the edges, then confirm on another day
Round one gives you edges to the nearest 5°C. That is coarse. If the lower edge is 75°C and the upper edge is 80°C, the window could be almost five degrees wide or almost nothing. Round two pours the half-steps — for that example, 72.5°C and 77.5°C — plus the borderline rung again, five jars each, to see how far each edge really reaches. It is the same kit size as round one (₹3,396.02 in CSI materials), and every rung stays inside the page's 70–80°C figures.
Then the confirmation round. Pour 20 jars at the middle of the window on a different day, as production would — same glass preparation, same tray, same room — and record the actual temperature of every pour. Two things must be true: every jar passes both lines, and the spread of your actual pour temperatures (highest minus lowest) is narrower than the window. If the window is four degrees wide and your jug wandered by five, some of every production batch will fall outside it. That is a process problem, not a wax problem — a warmer jug, smaller pour batches or a wax melter that holds temperature fix it.
| Measure | How you get it | Your figure | Rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lower edge (°C) | Lowest rung with all jars passing sides | ____ | — |
| Upper edge (°C) | Highest rung with all jars passing top | ____ | Must be ≥ lower edge |
| Window width (°C) | Upper edge − lower edge | ____ | Wider is safer |
| Setpoint (°C) | (Lower + upper) ÷ 2 | ____ | Goes on the SOP |
| Your pour spread (°C) | Highest − lowest actual reading across 20 confirmation pours | ____ | Must be smaller than the window width |
| Margin each side (°C) | (Window − spread) ÷ 2 | ____ | Positive = your process fits |
What hitting the window is worth
Material cost of one candle in this example at production rates: 147.2 g of Chunks at the 5 kg rate (₹599.00 a kilo) is ₹88.17; 12.8 g of Blue Ocean at the 1 kg rate (₹4.96 a gram) is ₹63.44; the Eco Thin C1 wick is ₹5.90 as the example wick line; a Salsa jar from the 100-pack is ₹29.50. That is ₹187.01 a candle before labour, packaging, freight and GST.
| Share of pours that fail (example) | Materials lost per 100 candles | Cost per acceptable candle |
|---|---|---|
| 5% | ₹935.05 | ₹196.85 |
| 10% | ₹1,870.10 | ₹207.79 |
| 20% | ₹3,740.19 | ₹233.76 |
Staying in the window has a cost too. The commonest is waiting: oil goes in at 80–90°C and the wax has to come down into the window before you pour. As an example, an extra 10 minutes of waiting on a 20-jar jug at an example ₹120.00 an hour is ₹1.00 a candle — far less than one reject in twenty. Replace every example with your own. If waiting is the bottleneck, a second jug or a melter that holds temperature is cheaper than rejects; CSI lists a Mini Electric Wax Melter at ₹2,360.00 and a Candle Wax Pouring Jug at ₹531.00. Melter hold accuracy is not published; check it against your thermometer before you rely on it.
The priced kits
Priced with listed, in-stock CSI packs on the illustrative 160 g candle, using the CSI convention (oil = W × L) and a 5% pour-loss working allowance: 15 × 147.2 g wax plus 5% is 2,318.4 g; 15 × 12.8 g oil plus 5% is 201.6 g. Round two is the same size; the confirmation round of 20 jars is ₹4,652.84. If you hold your production wax and oil lots, use them.
| Item | Need | Buy | Price | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar, golden lug cap | 15 | 3 × pack of 5 | ₹601.80 | Three packs of 5, none spare |
| Luxury Soy Wax Chunks | 2,318.4 g | 5 × 500 g | ₹1,495.00 | One melt for all rungs |
| Blue Ocean | 201.6 g | 4 × 50 g + 1 × 15 g | ₹1,081.22 | One addition for all rungs |
| Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 | 15 + 2 spare | 1 × pack of 20 | ₹118.00 | Wick size for this jar is not published — use the wick you have burn-tested |
| Wick stickers | 15 | 1 × sheet of 40 | ₹100.00 | — |
| CSI total for this round | ₹3,396.02 |
| Round | Jars | What it answers | CSI materials |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 · three rungs | 15 | Where the edges roughly are | ₹3,396.02 |
| 2 · half-steps | 15 | How far each edge reaches | ₹3,396.02 |
| 3 · confirmation | 20 | Does the setpoint pass, and does your process fit? | ₹4,652.84 |
| All three | 50 | ₹11,444.88 |
The three totals are each priced as a separate order from listed packs, so the sum is a ceiling: wax and oil left over from one round usually cover part of the next. A Pen Thermometer (₹354.00) reads the wax; check it against a second thermometer once, because a ladder with five-degree rungs is only as good as the readings.
The decision rule
Apply it from the top and stop at the first line that is true.
| If this is true after the confirmation round | Buy | And change |
|---|---|---|
| Window found, every jar passes, spread fits | Nothing | Setpoint ± margin on the SOP; re-check each season |
| Window found, but spread wider than the window | Nothing from CSI necessarily — a second jug or a melter only if waiting is the cause | Tighten the pour process, then repeat the confirmation |
| No overlap in round 1 | Nothing yet | Split the job: warm glass for sides, cooler pour for tops (7335) |
| No rung passes sides at all | Nothing yet | Cleaning, cooling position and the jar before wax |
| All of those cleared | 500 g bags of a second CSI wax to ladder it the same way | A wax change re-opens wick, load, cure and throw |
When the window is found, it belongs to this wax in this jar with this glass preparation. A new jar gets its own ladder — glass thickness and pour conditions and testing each new vessel explain why — and the jar-preparation and pouring SOP shows how to write the setpoint and its tolerance so every shift hits it.

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. A wax seller could answer "no temperature works, try another wax". This page finds the window your current wax already has, checks whether your process can hit it, and leaves a wax purchase to the last line of the decision rule.

Non-price figures and assumptions: Load convention: fragrance load is a share of the finished candle (oil = W × L; wax = W × (1 − L)). Illustrative candle: 160 g in the 200 ml Salsa jar (brim volume; fill not published — weigh a test pour) at 8%: 12.8 g oil + 147.2 g wax. Rungs 70, 75 and 80°C (Chunks page steps 70–80°C, spec table 75–80°C) and half-steps between them. Working practices: 5 jars per rung, a 20-jar confirmation round, 5% pour loss, photo checkpoints at 48 hours and 7 days, house scales sides 0–4 and tops 0–3, edges read only from rungs where every jar passes. Example figures: 5%, 10% and 20% miss rates, 10 minutes waiting per 20-jar jug, ₹120.00 an hour labour. Mini Electric Wax Melter ₹2,360.00 and Candle Wax Pouring Jug ₹531.00 are CSI catalogue prices (pulled 24–25 September 2026). Per-candle cost uses the Chunks 5 kg rate, the Blue Ocean 1 kg rate, the Salsa 100-pack rate and the Eco Thin C1 example wick at ₹5.90. What CSI's product pages state (quoted, not CSI test results): Luxury Soy Wax Chunks — fragrance load up to 13%, fragrance addition 80–90°C, pour 75–80°C in the spec table (the step list also shows 70–80°C), stir 2 minutes, cure at least 48 hours, ideally 1–2 weeks, and "excellent adhesion to glass and container surfaces"; Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 — fragrance load up to 10%, an 80–90°C melt/pour working range, single-pour, "excellent glass adhesion"; Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 — melting point 50–53°C, pour 58–60°C, fragrance load up to 13%, "formulated for excellent glass adhesion"; Natural Soy Pearl — no temperature, fragrance ceiling or adhesion statement published; Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram) — fill approximately 150 g, "safe for hot pour up to 85°C", thick-walled clear glass (thickness in mm not published); Borosilicate 600 g jar — "ideal for 500–600 g wax fill" and a "smooth inner surface for … clean adhesion" claim. All three adhesion claims are the same claim, so they rank nothing. CSI publishes no adhesion, wet-spot, shrinkage or contraction data for any wax, oil, dye or jar, no glass thickness or internal diameter for any jar, no hot-pour limit except the Clear 150 g jar's 85°C, no wick size for any jar, and no industry acceptance threshold for wet spots exists — every acceptance line on this page is a labelled house standard. Wet-spot mechanisms (contraction as wax cools, cold glass, uneven cooling, residues on glass) are general candle-making knowledge, described as commonly reported, not measured by CSI. Material costs exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST. Diwali 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November.
