Wax and fragrance are the only things left to buy, and both scale with the fill you have not weighed yet. Tests, breakage and re-pours come out of the owned stock first — and wicks run out before jars.
₹16,500.00
suggested budget for 100 owned jars at a 180 g fill (example) · CSI 464 + three oils + contingency · 89 saleable candles · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How much should I budget? About ₹12,522.52–₹18,554.68 in wax and three oils for fills of 150–200 g. At a 180 g fill with CSI 464: ₹15,246.00, budget ₹16,500.00 with contingency.

Will 100 jars make 100 candles? No — 89 in this example. 6 go to tests, and re-poured rejects need fresh wicks, so the 100 wicks run out first.

Which wax? The worked example uses CSI 464 (₹507.40/kg, up to 10% on its page); Chunks (up to 13%) costs ₹1,596.20 more for the same batch.

What first? Weigh one fill and pour three check candles with your owned wick before buying the bulk of the wax and oil.
The short answer
Answer: Budget by fill: ₹12,522.52 at 150 g to ₹18,554.68 at 200 g in Chunks. At 180 g with CSI 464, ₹16,500.00 including contingency.
Count: 100 jars and 100 wicks → 89 saleable: 3 wick checks, 3 oil checks, 5 re-pour wicks; jars alone could carry 92.
Method: Weigh a fill → prove the owned wick → wax = candles' worth × fill × (1 − load) × 1.04 → oil per scent → round to packs.
100 jars and 100 wicks: the scarcer one sets the candle count Example fill 180 g (weigh yours) · 8% · 3 owned-wick check candles + 1 per oil · 5% rejects re-poured with a new wick WICKS (100 owned) 6 saleable 89 5 JARS (100 owned) 6 saleable 89 3 2 Wicks run out first: 89 saleable candles. Rejects need a fresh wick, but can go back into a cleaned jar. Buying more of the same wick would lift the count to 92, limited by jars. Wax + three oils at 8%, by weighed fill (CSI 464 / Chunks): 150 g ₹12,522.52 / ₹13,843.92 180 g ₹15,246.00 / ₹16,842.20 200 g ₹16,775.28 / ₹18,554.68
Owned wicks and jars are fixed counts. Tests use both; broken glass uses jars; re-poured rejects use wicks but not jars — so the wicks run out first. Bottom: wax and three oils at 8% by weighed fill, CSI 464 (dark) and Chunks (light). 180 g is a labelled example.
Straight answer
I already have 100 jars and wicks — how much should I budget for soy wax and three fragrance oils to turn them into saleable candles?
Budget roughly ₹12,522.52 to ₹18,554.68 in wax and oil, depending on what one of your jars holds and which wax you choose — about ₹16,500.00 at a 180 g fill with CSI 464, including a spare wick pack and a 5% contingency. At 180 g and 8% each candle is 14.4 g of oil and 165.6 g of wax. But 100 jars and 100 wicks will not make 100 candles: 3 check candles prove your owned wick, 3 confirm the three oils, and every re-poured reject needs a fresh wick, so the wicks run out at 89 saleable candles. For those, buy CSI 464 1 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g (₹8,885.80) and three oils (₹6,360.20). Weigh one jar first, and burn the check candles before buying the bulk.
One line: weigh one jar, prove one wick, then buy wax and oil for the candles your stock can really make.
For 100 owned jars and 100 owned wicks at a weighed 180 g fill (example), budget ₹16,500.00: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 1 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g and three oils at 8% come to ₹15,246.00, plus a spare wick pack and a 5% contingency. That turns the shelf into 89 saleable candles. The wax: CSI 464 at ₹5,074.00 for 10 kg.

The budget, by fill weight and wax

Your budget is decided by one number you have not told us yet: how much one of your jars holds.

Wax and oil are the only things left to buy, and both scale with the finished weight in each jar. "100 jars" without a fill is not enough to price, so the table runs three fills and two waxes. Fill one of your jars to the line you like with plain wax and weigh it — that figure picks your row. The worked example on this page uses 180 g, a labelled example. The two waxes are CSI 464 (₹507.40 a kilo flat, fragrance up to 10% on its page) and Chunks (₹599.00 a kilo, up to 13% on its page); both are container soy waxes, and CSI publishes no data that makes one better in your jar.

89 saleable candles + 6 test candles · 8% load · 5% rejects re-poured · 4% pour loss · three oils (British Rose, Blue Ocean, Chocolate Fudge) · wax CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026 · oils CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 4 October 2026
What wax and three oils cost for your 100 jars
Your weighed fill Wax (CSI 464) Oil, three scents CSI 464 + oils Chunks + oils Suggested budget (464)
150 g 14,352 g 1,248 g ₹12,522.52 ₹13,843.92 ₹13,500.00
180 g (worked example) 17,222 g 1,498 g ₹15,246.00 ₹16,842.20 ₹16,500.00
200 g 19,136 g 1,664 g ₹16,775.28 ₹18,554.68 ₹18,000.00

So the honest answer is a range: roughly ₹12,522.52 to ₹18,554.68 in CSI wax and oil, depending on fill and wax, before contingency. At the 180 g example with CSI 464 it is ₹15,246.00, or ₹171.30 per saleable candle in wax and oil; with Chunks it is ₹16,842.20. The suggested budget adds one spare wick pack (₹94.40) in case your owned wick fails its check, and a 5% labelled contingency, rounded up to the next ₹500.

The CSI principle
Weigh one jar before you price a hundred.
Between a 150 g and a 200 g fill the wax-and-oil bill moves by about ₹4,252.76 on this page. No other input moves it as much.

Why 100 jars and 100 wicks make 89 candles, not 100

Owned materials carry ₹0 on the order, but they are a fixed count, and everything that is not a saleable candle comes out of them. Three things take a share: tests, breakage and rejects. They do not hit jars and wicks equally, and that difference decides which one runs out first.

Working backwards from owned stock · rates are labelled working assumptions
Where the 100 jars and 100 wicks go
Use Jars Wicks Why
Owned 100 100 the title's figures
Owned-wick check 3 3 3 candles to prove the wick in your jar and wax
Oil confirmation 3 3 1 candle per scent with the approved wick
Breakage 2 0 2% of glass — example
Rejects re-poured 0 (jar cleaned and reused) 5 5% example — every re-pour needs a fresh wick
Saleable 92 possible 89 the smaller number wins

Wicks are the limit: 100 wicks less 6 test wicks leaves 94, and if one candle in twenty has to be remelted and re-poured with a new wick, those 94 wicks finish 89 saleable candles. The jars could carry 92. If you can buy more of the same wick from wherever your 100 came from, a handful more lifts the count to 92. Do not top up with a different wick type without testing it — a different wick is a different candle. Exactly 1,000 wicks or extra? makes the same point at scale.

The shortcut: "100 jars × 180 g = 18 kg of wax." That treats the fill as pure wax and ignores that some jars become tests and some candles get re-poured. The candles can only hold wax at 92% of the fill, and only 95 jars are poured. Fix: wax = candles' worth × fill × (1 − load) × (1 + pour loss). Here that is 17,222 g — 778 g less than the shortcut. Actual wax weight per candle covers the split in detail.

Prove the owned wick first

A wick you already own is free. A wick that fails in your jar costs a whole batch.

The title says the wicks are owned, but not whether they have ever burned in these jars with this wax. CSI publishes no wick sizes per jar diameter, and if your wicks came from elsewhere we know nothing about their construction. So before any wax is bought in bulk, pour three check candles with the owned wick in one oil and burn them in 3–4 hour cycles with full cool-down (commonly used working practice). If the pool reaches the jar edge in a reasonable time without a tall flame, soot or a hot jar, the wick passes.

Check-candle plan · pass/fail is judged on your own records · CSI publishes no numeric safety limits
Three outcomes, three next steps
Result What it means Next step Cost
Pass Owned wick suits your jar and wax at 8% Pour the 3 oil confirmations, then production ₹0 more
Pool too small / tunnelling Wick likely undersized for the jar Ladder with a larger option, e.g. Eco Thick C2 × 10 ₹94.40
Flame high, soot, hot jar Wick likely oversized Ladder with a smaller option; never trade safety for throw ₹118.00 (Thin C1 × 20)

If the owned wick fails, the 100 owned wicks become spares and the production wick has to be bought — 95 candles' worth at ₹5.90 (Thin C1) to ₹12.00 (Cotton Braided) a wick, roughly ₹590.00 to ₹1,200.00. That risk is why the suggested budget keeps a contingency; it is also why you should not buy all the wax and oil until the check candles have burned. What to delay until the wick passes sets out the same rule for large orders.

The priced order for the worked example

At 180 g and 8%, each candle is 14.4 g of oil and 165.6 g of wax. The consumables cover 89 saleable candles plus 6 test candles, divided by (1 − 5%) for re-pours — 100 candles' worth — with 4% pour loss on wax and oil. CSI 464's 10 kg bag, 5 kg bags and 1 kg bags are all ₹507.40 a kilo; only the 500 g bag is dearer. The list picks the fewest bags at that rate.

Chocolate Fudge 30 472.9 g 1 × 500 g 27.1 g ₹1,982.40

Three rounding notes. British Rose is one of the oils with a real bulk step — ₹3.42 a gram at 100 g, ₹3.19 at 500 g, ₹3.07 at 1 kg — so its larger bottles are genuinely cheaper per gram. Chocolate Fudge's 100 g is out of stock on the 4 October 2026 re-check, so its cover is built from the 500 g and smaller sizes. Blue Ocean is priced almost flat from 50 g to 1 kg. One rule applies to all three: where a single 500 g bottle costs within about ₹100 of a pile of 50 g and 15 g bottles, the list takes the single bottle — fewer bottles to open, and the spare grams are the start of the reorder.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. We would sell more wax if we told you to take Chunks or a 10 kg bag "to be safe". On this page CSI 464 covers the example for ₹1,596.20 less than Chunks, and the bag mix stops at the grams you need. If your check candles show you need a higher load than CSI 464's stated 10%, that is the time to look at Chunks (13% on its page) — not before.
Count wicks like jars
Write the owned wick count on the same sheet as the jar count and subtract every check, confirmation and re-pour from it as you go. Of the two owned limits, the wick is the one that disappears without anyone noticing — 5 re-pours here is 5 wicks gone.
A hundred jars is a ceiling, not a promise. The wicks, the tests and the re-pours decide how close you get to it.

What the load does to the bill

The title fixes nothing about fragrance load, so here is the 180 g example at 6%, 8% and 10%. CSI 464's page states up to 10%; Chunks' up to 13%. Those are wax makers' formulation limits, not targets.

180 g fill · 89 saleable + 6 test candles · same allowances
Load sensitivity, wax and three oils
Load Oil per candle Wax (CSI 464) Oil, three scents CSI 464 + oils Chunks + oils
6% 10.8 g 17,597 g 1,123 g ₹13,902.52 ₹15,551.32
8% 14.4 g 17,222 g 1,498 g ₹15,246.00 ₹16,842.20
10% 18.0 g 16,848 g 1,872 g ₹16,255.08 ₹17,812.28

Raising the load cuts the wax slightly and raises the oil much more, because oil costs several times more per gram than wax. From 8% to 10% the bill rises by ₹1,009.08 with CSI 464. Settle the load in the check candles, then price. 6% versus 8% and 10% versus 8% work the same comparison on 100 candles from scratch.

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. We tell you to prove the wick you already own before buying ours, and to buy the cheaper wax unless your check candles say otherwise.

Wax prices are CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026; oil prices are CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 4 October 2026; wick packs are from the CSI listing re-checked 4 October 2026. Frequently asked questions

How much soy wax do I need for 100 candles?
Fill × (1 − load) × candles' worth × (1 + pour loss). At 180 g, 8%, 100 candles' worth and 4% loss: 17,222 g.
How much fragrance oil for 100 candles at 8%?
At 180 g, 14.4 g per candle; with tests, re-pours and 4% loss about 1,498 g across three scents.
Why does my candle count come out below my jar count?
Test candles, broken jars and re-poured rejects all use owned stock. The scarcer of jars and wicks sets the count.
Can I use wicks I already have with CSI wax?
Possibly — prove it with three check candles in your jar and wax before buying the bulk. CSI publishes no wick charts.
Is CSI 464 or Chunks cheaper for 100 candles?
On listed prices CSI 464 (₹507.40/kg) is cheaper than Chunks (₹599.00/kg). Neither is proven better in your jar — test.
What if one of my oils is out of stock in 100 g?
Cover the grams with the sizes that are in stock. Chocolate Fudge's 100 g is out of stock; its 50 g and 500 g are buyable at the same rate per gram.
