I Have ₹1 Lakh Available for Raw-Material Inventory — How Do I Decide How Much Should Go into Wax, Fragrance Oils, Wicks and Jars Based on Actual Monthly Consumption?
शेयर करना
How long will ₹1 lakh last? ₹1,00,000 ÷ ₹88,183.33 a month = 1.13 months, about 34 days of every component at once.
Why not 25% each? Because components cost very different amounts per candle. ₹25,000 of wicks is 389 days' supply; ₹25,000 of wax is 21. Production would stop after 21 days.
What if I already have some stock? Spend to bring every line to the same days of cover, filling the thinnest first. In our second example that lifts every line to 44.4 days. See topping up existing stock.
Monthly consumption in rupees
Our example business pours 320 candles a month, each 200 g at an 8% fragrance load in a White Matte Glass Jar (200 g is a tested fill you should confirm in your own jar; the jar's fill weight is not published). Four scents share the sales: Lavender 35%, British Rose 25%, Dark Vanilla 20% and Sandalwood 20%. These are example figures — the method needs only your own monthly units, fill, load and scent mix.
Each candle is 184 g of wax and 16 g of oil. Add a 3% pour-loss allowance to wax and oil, 2% to wicks for defects and 1% to glass for breakage — all labelled working assumptions. Then price each line at the rate you will actually pay: wax at ₹599.00 a kilo (the 5 kg bag), each oil at its 1 kg per-gram price, wicks at ₹5.90 and jars at ₹70.80.
| Line | Monthly quantity | Rate used | Monthly value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wax (Luxury Soy Wax Chunks) | 60.65 kg | ₹599.00 / kg | ₹36,327.19 |
| Lavender (35% of sales) | 1,845.8 g | ₹5,221.00 / kg | ₹9,636.71 |
| British Rose (25% of sales) | 1,318.4 g | ₹3,068.00 / kg | ₹4,044.85 |
| Dark Vanilla (20% of sales) | 1,054.7 g | ₹7,646.00 / kg | ₹8,064.39 |
| Sandalwood (20% of sales) | 1,054.7 g | ₹5,026.80 / kg | ₹5,301.87 |
| Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 | 326.4 | ₹5.90 each | ₹1,925.76 |
| White Matte Glass Jar | 323.2 | ₹70.80 each | ₹22,882.56 |
| Total | ₹88,183.33 |
Material cost per candle is ₹275.57, before labels, boxes, freight, labour and GST. The jar is the surprise for many makers: at ₹70.80 it costs more than the wax in the candle (₹113.52 with loss). Any budget split that treats glass as a small line will run out of jars first.
The split that gives equal cover
Divide the budget in the same proportions as the monthly bill. Each line then buys the same number of months of its own consumption, because every line gets budget ÷ total monthly value = 1.134 months of itself.
| Line | Monthly value | Share | Budget | Cover |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wax | ₹36,327.19 | 41.2% | ₹41,195.08 | 34.0 days |
| Fragrance oils | ₹27,047.82 | 30.7% | ₹30,672.26 | 34.0 days |
| Wicks | ₹1,925.76 | 2.2% | ₹2,183.81 | 34.0 days |
| Jars | ₹22,882.56 | 25.9% | ₹25,948.85 | 34.0 days |
| Total | ₹88,183.33 | 100.0% | ₹1,00,000.00 | 34.0 days |
Within the oil line, split again by each scent's own monthly value, not by its share of sales. Dark Vanilla is 20% of sales but, at ₹7.65 a gram, 29.8% of the oil bill; British Rose is 25% of sales but only 15.0% of the bill at ₹3.07 a gram. So Dark Vanilla gets ₹9,145.03 and British Rose ₹4,586.87 — and both still last 34 days.
Why an equal split fails
| Line | Budget | Monthly value | Cover bought |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wax | ₹25,000.00 | ₹36,327.19 | 20.6 days |
| Fragrance oils | ₹25,000.00 | ₹27,047.82 | 27.7 days |
| Wicks | ₹25,000.00 | ₹1,925.76 | 389.5 days |
| Jars | ₹25,000.00 | ₹22,882.56 | 32.8 days |
Production needs all four at once, so the business can pour for only 20.6 days — about 220 candles — before wax runs out. At that point it holds more than a year's wicks and several weeks of jars, bought with money that should have been wax. The consumption-share split buys 34.0 days of everything for the same ₹1,00,000.
Rounding each line to real packs
Budgets are rupees; stock comes in packs. Round each line down to what its own budget buys — rounding up would take money from another line. Here is the consumption-share allocation turned into real CSI packs:
| Line | Budget | Packs | Quantity | Cost | Days of cover |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Luxury Soy Wax Chunks | ₹41,195.08 | 13 × 5 kg + 3 × 1 kg | 68.00 kg | ₹40,732.00 | 33.6 |
| Lavender | ₹10,928.04 | 2 × 1 kg | 2,000 g | ₹10,442.00 | 32.5 |
| British Rose | ₹4,586.87 | 1 × 1 kg + 4 × 100 g | 1,400 g | ₹4,436.80 | 31.9 |
| Dark Vanilla | ₹9,145.03 | 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 100 g | 1,100 g | ₹8,436.00 | 31.3 |
| Sandalwood | ₹6,012.32 | 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 100 g | 1,100 g | ₹5,529.48 | 31.3 |
| Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 | ₹2,183.81 | 3 × 100 + 1 × 50 + 1 × 20 | 370 | ₹2,183.00 | 34.0 |
| White Matte Glass Jar | ₹25,948.85 | 73 × pack of 5 | 365 | ₹25,842.00 | 33.9 |
| Total | ₹1,00,000.00 | ₹97,601.28 | left over ₹2,398.72 |
After rounding, ₹97,601.28 is spent and ₹2,398.72 is left. The line with the least cover is Dark Vanilla at 31.3 days, so the leftover goes there first — a 100 g bottle, a pack of five jars or a 1 kg bag of wax, whichever the leftover covers. Small differences in days of cover after rounding are normal; what matters is that no line is weeks shorter than the others.
| Pack | Price | Per gram | 200 g candles at 16 g |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 g | ₹105.02 | ₹7.00 | 0.94 |
| 50 g | ₹270.00 | ₹5.40 | 3.12 |
| 100 g | ₹540.00 | ₹5.40 | 6.25 |
| 500 g | ₹2,620.00 | ₹5.24 | 31.25 |
| 1 kg | ₹5,221.00 | ₹5.22 | 62.50 |
| Pack | Price | Per gram | 200 g candles at 16 g |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 g | ₹94.40 | ₹6.29 | 0.94 |
| 50 g | ₹212.40 | ₹4.25 | 3.12 |
| 100 g | ₹342.20 | ₹3.42 | 6.25 |
| 500 g | ₹1,593.00 | ₹3.19 | 31.25 |
| 1 kg | ₹3,068.00 | ₹3.07 | 62.50 |
| Pack | Price | Per gram | 200 g candles at 16 g |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 g | ₹130.00 | ₹8.67 | 0.94 |
| 50 g | ₹410.00 | ₹8.20 | 3.12 |
| 100 g | ₹790.00 | ₹7.90 | 6.25 |
| 500 g | ₹3,840.00 | ₹7.68 | 31.25 |
| 1 kg | ₹7,646.00 | ₹7.65 | 62.50 |
Topping up existing stock
Most budgets are not spent on an empty stock room. If you already hold some wax, a bottle or two of each oil and a few jars, the aim is the same — every line lasting the same number of days — but the spend is different. Convert each line's stock to days of cover, then fill the thinnest lines first until all reach a common level. With ₹1,00,000 and the example shelf below, that common level is:
| Line | On hand | Days on hand | Spend to equalise | Days after spending |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wax (Chunks) | 25,000 g | 12.4 | ₹38,787.98 | 44.4 |
| Lavender | 400 g | 6.5 | ₹12,173.60 | 44.4 |
| British Rose | 900 g | 20.5 | ₹3,225.04 | 44.4 |
| Dark Vanilla | 150 g | 4.3 | ₹10,788.11 | 44.4 |
| Sandalwood | 700 g | 19.9 | ₹4,327.82 | 44.4 |
| Wicks | 300 | 27.6 | ₹1,080.06 | 44.4 |
| White Matte jars | 60 | 5.6 | ₹29,617.39 | 44.4 |
| Total | ₹30,508.26 on hand | ₹1,00,000.00 | 44.4 |
The shelf already held ₹30,508.26 of stock, so ₹1,00,000 lifts every line to 44.4 days. Dark Vanilla and jars, the thinnest, get the most; British Rose, already well stocked, gets the least. If any line already had more cover than the common level, it would get nothing and the level would be recalculated across the rest. Round each spend to packs as before.
The same method works at any budget. ₹50,000 buys half the days; ₹5 lakh buys five times as many — though at that point it is worth checking whether that much cover makes sense for oils and wax you will hold for months, and whether larger quantities should be quoted. CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. The advice that would sell the most would be to put your budget into big bags. This page splits it by what you actually consume, rounds each line down to real packs, and shows where an equal split strands money.
Oil and wax prices come from live CSI listings pulled on 24 September 2026; Eco Candle Wick prices from the 25 September 2026 pull; the White Matte Glass Jar price was verified on 10 September 2026 for Blog 760. Monthly values, shares, days of cover and pack roundings are plain arithmetic on those prices.
Monthly sales, the 200 g fill, the scent mix, the loss, defect and breakage allowances and the on-hand counts are labelled example assumptions. Material cost excludes labels, boxes, freight, labour and GST. For a quote that prices your own lines, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.
