I Have a 12 cm Wide Luxury Candle — How Do I Decide Whether to Test Two or Three Wicks Before Purchasing Production Quantities?
शेयर करना
How much does the choice change the production bill? Per 1,000 candles, the wicks cost ₹11,800.00 on 2 × C1, ₹17,700.00 on 3 × C1, ₹18,880.00 on 2 × C2, ₹24,000.00 on 2 × Cotton Braided and ₹28,320.00 on 3 × C2. Three C1 cost ₹1,180.00 less than two C2.
Is the wick bill the real risk? No. The oil for 1,000 such candles is ₹318,696.00. The dearest wick configuration is 8.9% of that. The risk is pouring 1,000 candles around a configuration that fails in the final third.
When can I order production wicks? Only after all three candles of the winning configuration pass a full-life burn. For a 700 g candle that takes weeks; plan for it, especially before Diwali.

The production exposure: wicks per candle sets the bill
C1, C2 and Cotton Braided are flat per wick in every pack, so the configuration, not the pack, decides the wick bill. Here it is per 1,000 candles, before and after a 5% allowance for rejects and retests (our worked-example figure):
| Configuration | Per candle | Per 1,000 | Per 1,000 + 5% | Packs | Stickers per 1,000 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 × C1 | ₹11.80 | ₹11,800.00 | ₹12,390.00 | 2 × 1,000 + 100 = ₹12,390.00 | ₹5,000.00 |
| 3 × C1 | ₹17.70 | ₹17,700.00 | ₹18,585.00 | 3 × 1,000 + 100 + 50 = ₹18,585.00 | ₹7,500.00 |
| 2 × C2 | ₹18.88 | ₹18,880.00 | ₹19,824.00 | 2 × 1,000 + 100 = ₹19,824.00 | ₹5,000.00 |
| 2 × Cotton Braided | ₹24.00 | ₹24,000.00 | ₹25,200.00 | 2 × 1,000 + 100 = ₹25,200.00 | ₹5,000.00 |
| 3 × C2 | ₹28.32 | ₹28,320.00 | ₹29,736.00 | 3 × 1,000 + 100 + 50 = ₹29,736.00 | ₹7,500.00 |
Three things the table says that intuition does not. Three wicks are not automatically dearer: 3 × C1 costs ₹1,180.00 less per 1,000 candles than 2 × C2. The spread is real but bounded: the dearest configuration, 3 × C2, costs ₹16,520.00 more per 1,000 than the cheapest, 2 × C1. Stickers scale with wicks: a third wick adds a third sticker, and if you used the Large stickers at ₹6.22 each, 1,000 three-wick candles would need ₹18,675.00 of them, more than the 3 × C1 wicks.
Now set it against the candle. At a labelled 700 g fill and 8%, 1,000 candles need 56,000 g of Dark Vanilla Oud: ₹318,696.00 at the 1 kg price. The dearest wick bill is 8.9% of that oil bill, before wax and your jars. The production exposure in a 12 cm luxury candle is not the wick; it is everything poured around it.
Which two-wick and three-wick arms to test at 12 cm
Pool area is π × r² on the inside diameter: geometry, not a burn prediction. A 12 cm inside jar has 113.10 cm², 44% more than a 10 cm jar (78.54 cm²). Split two ways, each wick has 56.55 cm², the area a single wick has in a jar about 8.5 cm across; split three ways, 37.70 cm², like a single in a 6.9 cm jar. That equivalence is a starting point for choosing rungs (our judgement), and it is why the arms are not symmetrical.
| Configuration | Per wick | Like a single in | Arms | Starting position |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Two wicks | 56.55 cm² | about 8.5 cm | 2 × C2, 2 × Cotton Braided | 6.0 cm apart, 3.0 cm to the glass |
| Three wicks | 37.70 cm² | about 6.9 cm | 3 × C1, 3 × C2 | triangle, circumradius 3.0 cm: 3.0 cm to the glass, 5.20 cm apart |
| Not tested | — | — | 2 × C1 (likely too little for 56.55 cm² each); 3 × Cotton Braided (CSI's largest rung, three times) | add only if the tested arms point there |
The single-wick equivalents come from this cluster's own pages: at 8.5 cm a single Cotton Braided is the expected candidate with C2 below it (the 8.5 cm post); at about 7 cm, C1 and C2 are the live singles. CSI publishes no wick data for either, and the pair shares one pool, so their flames interact in a way two separate jars do not: the equivalence chooses rungs, it does not predict the result.
If 12 cm is the outside of your jar, a 0.35 cm wall (our assumption) leaves about 11.3 cm inside, 100.29 cm², and every arm moves a little down. And note what CSI does not sell: no jar this wide. The widest diameter any CSI jar page states is about 10 cm (the Apothecary Dome Lid jar); the clip-top container states "11cm * 11cm * 10cm" without saying which figure is the width; the 600 gram borosilicate jar states no dimensions. None of them is a 12 cm jar.
Placing three wicks without a CSI holder
The Steel Wick Holder's three holes sit in a line, and its page says it fits jars "up to 9 cm wide"; no CSI holder sets a triangle. Mark 120° points on a paper circle cut to your jar's inside diameter, stick each tab through it with a sticker, and hold the wicks upright with sticks. The placement method is the 12 cm three-wick placement post; when a three-wick candle runs hot in the middle, the spacing test is the triangle-geometry post.
The twelve-candle ladder: counts, packs, rupees
The 700 g fill is our labelled worked example for a 12 cm luxury jar; weigh your own fill line and keep the load at 8% of total candle weight (56 g of oil + 644 g of wax per candle). Your twelve jars are the line we cannot price.
| Item | Count needed | Smallest in-stock pack | Price | Per unit | Left over |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eco C1 (3 × C1) | 3 candles × 3 = 9 | 20 (10-pack out of stock) | ₹118.00 | ₹5.90 | 11 |
| Eco C2 (2 × C2, 3 × C2) | 6 + 9 = 15 | 20 | ₹188.80 | ₹9.44 | 5 |
| Cotton Braided (2 × CB) | 3 candles × 2 = 6 | 10 | ₹120.00 | ₹12.00 | 4 |
| Wicks | 30 wicks, 12 candles | three packs | ₹426.80 | — | — |
| Candle Wick Stickers (10 mm) | 30 tabs | 1 sheet of 40 | ₹100.00 | ₹2.50 | 10 |
| Dark Vanilla Oud | 672 g | 500 g + 2 × 100 g | ₹4,025.00 | ₹5.69 per g at 500 g | 28 g |
| CSI 468 | 7,728 g | 5 kg + 3 × 1 kg | ₹5,135.00 | ₹0.64 per g at 5 kg | 272 g |
| Cash from nothing | — | — | ₹9,686.80 | — | your 12 jars on top |
Wicks are 4.4% of that order. Per arm, materials consumed (oil at the 500 g price, wax at the 5 kg price, wicks at pack price) are ₹2,243.24 for 2 × C2, ₹2,258.60 for 2 × Cotton Braided, ₹2,239.70 for 3 × C1 and ₹2,271.56 for 3 × C2; the twelve candles burn ₹9,013.12 in all. Each candle carries ₹728.87 of oil and wax before a single wick. These figures exclude your jars, labour, freight, packaging and GST.
The rule: no production order before a full-life pass
Heat commonly builds as a candle burns down: the pool deepens, flames can grow, and the glass above the pool takes heat. With two or three flames in one pool, that tendency has more to work with. A pair that reaches the glass neatly at burn 3 can run deep and hot halfway down; three small wicks can mushroom together late in life. That is why the purchase rule is absolute here: all three candles of one configuration pass a full-life burn, to about 1 cm left, before any production order. How far down counts is the acceptance-depth post; a jar that gets hotter with every burn is the cumulative-heat post, read by eye or with a non-contact thermometer, which CSI does not list, and never by touch.
From approval to 1,000 candles
Once one configuration passes, step up in two moves. First a pilot run poured exactly as production will be: a 30-candle pilot on 3 × C2 needs 90 wicks, which is the C2 100-pack (₹944.00); on 3 × C1 it is a C1 100 (₹590.00). Then the formula from the cluster hub: wicks = candles × wicks per candle × (1 + allowance), from packs that add up to the count, using the table at the top of this page.
| Line | Two wicks | Three wicks | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wick placements | 2,000 | 3,000 | setting time per candle; see the criteria post |
| 10 mm stickers | ₹5,000.00 | ₹7,500.00 | the 100-sheet is out of stock; 40-sheets at ₹2.50 each |
| Wick SKUs to stock | one (C2 or Cotton Braided) | one (C1 or C2) | either way one SKU, if one oil and one jar |
| Customer instruction | trim two wicks | trim three wicks | care labels should say so |
How much testing a 5,000-wick commitment deserves is the 5,000-wick testing-scope post; a corporate order that should be approved on the exact production lots is the 10,000-wick corporate post; holding stock for a two-wick candle at volume is the two-wicks-per-candle holding post. A three-wick design at a different weight, with its own first ladder, is the three-wick 500 g post.
The wider planning view for a 4-inch luxury jar is the 4-inch jar post; the point at which three wicks start to make more sense than two by diameter is the three-wick threshold post. This page owns only the purchase: test both, price the passers, buy after the full life.
What to buy for a 12 cm two-or-three test, and what to skip
Five items, in the order the 12 cm ladder needs them, chosen on page statements, price and stock on 1 October 2026. CSI publishes no wick-performance data, so nothing is ranked on burn results. Oil candle counts use 56 g per 700 g candle and 12 g per 150 g candle.

Skip for this ladder: a 2 × C1 arm unless the 2 × C2 arm runs hot; a 3 × Cotton Braided arm unless 3 × C2 falls short; Performance Wooden Wicks (₹590.00 for 10, one listing with no widths: CSI does not sell a wider or narrower wooden wick, and three wooden wicks at ₹177.00 a candle is another product); the Steel Wick Holder (holes in a line, fits up to 9 cm, per its page); and any CSI jar as a stand-in for a 12 cm jar.
CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the wicks, stickers, Dark Vanilla Oud and CSI 468 named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page still tells you that three C1 can cost less than two C2, that bigger tabbed packs save nothing per wick, that our Large sticker listing contradicts itself, that no CSI holder sets a triangle, and that we list no 12 cm jar.
Every price was verified on CSI's live store on 1 October 2026. Stock was checked per size: the Eco C1 10-pack and the 100-sticker sheet are out of stock on that date and are flagged where they appear; every other size shown is in stock. Product wording is quoted from the pages; where a page is silent in the text we captured, we say so.
The choice of arms, the single-wick equivalents, the 700 g fill, the 0.35 cm wall, the 6.0 cm and 3.0 cm starting positions, the 5% allowance, the pilot size and the production figures are our judgement or worked examples; melt-pool times are commonly cited rules of thumb. The 700 g fill, the 12 cm inside diameter and the 0.35 cm wall are labelled assumptions; pool area = π r² on the inside radius; two wicks: wick-to-wall = r − s/2; three wicks: wick-to-wall = r − ρ, wick-to-wick = ρ√3. Ceilings are as the pages state (CSI 468 up to 13%, pour 58–60°C; Dark Vanilla Oud 6–10% for candles): formulation limits, not regulatory ones. Melt-pool times are commonly cited rules of thumb.
