CSI Wick Buying · Rectangular Vessels
A rectangle has no diameter, but it has two numbers that do the job: the width sets how far every wick must reach, the length sets how many wicks share the work. Test two and three in a line, three candles each.
120 cm²
15 × 8 cm inside: 60 cm² per wick with two, 40 cm² with three; every wick 4.0 cm from the long walls · worked example
Quick answers — read this first
If diameter is useless, what do I measure? The inside width (the short side) and the inside length. The width sets how far every wick must reach to the long walls; the length sets how many wicks you need along the line. In a 15 × 8 cm vessel each wick is 4.0 cm from a long wall whatever you do, the same reach as a single wick in an 8 cm round jar.

How many wicks for a 15 × 8 cm rectangle? Test two and three. Two wicks give each a nearly square cell of 60 cm²; three give long, narrow cells of 40 cm². Our starting count is length ÷ width (1.88), rounded: two, with three as the arm above. That is a starting point, not a rule.

What do I buy? Three arms of three candles: 2 × C2, 3 × C1 and 3 × C2. Eco C1 20-pack (₹118.00) + Eco C2 20-pack (₹188.80) + a 40-sheet of wick stickers (₹100.00) = ₹406.80. Optionally a 10-pack of Steel Wick Holders (₹500.00) laid across the width, one per wick.

Does CSI sell a rectangular candle vessel? Not in our jar listings. The only containers described as square or rectangular are square wax-melt containers and a 10 g rectangular solid-perfume tin. The vessel and its geometry are yours; ask us if you need one sourced.
The short answer
Measure: inside length and width at the fill line. Width ÷ 2 is the reach to the long walls for every wick on the centre line; length ÷ wicks is each wick's share.
Buy: C1 20 (₹118.00) + C2 20 (₹188.80) + 40 stickers (₹100.00) = ₹406.80, for nine 600 g candles at 8% (48 g Lemongrass and Lime + 552 g Soy Wax Chunks).
Place: wicks on the centre line at equal cells: two at 3.75 cm from each end, or three at 2.5 cm from the ends and 5.0 cm apart.
Approve: all three candles of one arm melt to the long walls, leave no more corner wax than you accept, keep the zones between wicks calm and pass the full life.
A 15 × 8 cm vessel: the width sets the reach, the length sets the count Top views to scale (26 px per cm), inside dimensions, your vessel (CSI lists no rectangular candle vessel). Dashed lines = cell boundaries; circles = a 4.0 cm reach from each wick. Positions are starting points for testing (our judgement). 4.0 cm Two wicks 7.5 cm apart, 3.75 cm from ends cell 7.5 × 8 cm = 60 cm² like a round jar 8.74 cm wide farthest corner 5.48 cm cell shape 0.94 (1 = square) arm: 2 × C2 4.0 cm Three wicks 5.0 cm apart, 2.5 cm from ends cell 5 × 8 cm = 40 cm² like a round jar 7.14 cm wide farthest corner 4.72 cm cell shape 0.62 arms: 3 × C1 and 3 × C2 Corner line: two wicks reach 5.48 cm to the corner; three wicks 4.72 cm. Width line: 4.0 cm in both. Every wick is 4.0 cm from a long wall whatever the count: the across-reach of a single wick in an 8 cm round jar. Adding wicks shortens only the reach along the length and to the corners, and adds a shared hot zone between neighbours.
The worked-example vessel at true scale. With two wicks each owns a nearly square 7.5 × 8 cm cell; with three, a narrow 5 × 8 cm cell. The thin circles show a 4.0 cm reach from each wick: in both layouts they just touch the long walls, because the width, not the count, sets that distance. What the third wick buys is a shorter reach to the ends and corners (4.72 cm instead of 5.48 cm), at the price of a second shared zone between neighbours. Positions are starting points for testing (our judgement), not rules.
Straight answer
I'm designing a rectangular candle vessel. How do I determine wick number and placement when diameter is not a useful measurement?
Replace the diameter with two measurements. The inside width sets the reach: every wick on the centre line is half the width from the long walls, and no number of wicks changes that. The inside length sets the count: divide it into equal cells, one wick in the middle of each. For a 15 × 8 cm vessel that gives two candidate layouts: two wicks in nearly square cells of 60 cm², or three in narrow cells of 40 cm². Buy three arms of three candles, 2 × C2, 3 × C1 and 3 × C2, from an Eco C1 20-pack (₹118.00) and an Eco C2 20-pack (₹188.80), with one 40-sheet of wick stickers (₹100.00). Pour nine 600 g candles at 8% and approve the arm that melts to the long walls, leaves acceptable corners and stays calm between wicks through the full life. Our judgement is that two C2 is the likelier answer for these proportions; three wicks earn their place only if the ends and corners hang.
One line: width ÷ 2 is the reach, length ÷ wicks is the share; ₹306.80 of wicks tests two and three in a line.
The wick order for a 15 × 8 cm vessel: Eco C1 20-pack (₹118.00; the 10-pack is out of stock on 1 October 2026), Eco C2 20-pack (₹188.80) and a 40-sticker sheet (₹100.00). All in stock on 1 October 2026. No production wicks until one arm passes the full life.
Eco C1/C2 — from ₹94.40

First, the honest part: whose vessel this is

We can sell you the wicks for a rectangle. We cannot sell you the rectangle.
Mistake: sizing a rectangular vessel's wick from its "diameter", the diagonal, or the round jar of the same capacity. Why it fails: the diagonal (17.00 cm here) overstates the reach to the long walls; the round jar with the same area (12.36 cm wide) puts one wick 8.50 cm from each corner. Neither is a wick you can buy. Fix: width for the reach, length for the count, then a ladder.

From L × W to wick candidates

Width ÷ 2 is the reach you cannot change. Length ÷ wicks is the share you can.

The method is three numbers per layout, all geometry and none a burn prediction. Put the wicks on the centre line of the long axis and give each an equal cell. Then for each layout read: the area each wick must melt, the reach to the long walls, and the reach to the farthest corner.

Layouts for a 15 × 8 cm inside vessel · area per wick from L × W
120 cm² in all · wicks on the centre line, equal cells · reach to long wall = W ÷ 2 · corner reach = √((cell ÷ 2)² + (W ÷ 2)²) · all figures declared
Wicks Cell Area per wick Same area as a round jar To long walls To farthest corner Spacing
1 15 × 8 cm 120 cm² 12.36 cm 4.0 cm 8.50 cm —
2 7.5 × 8 cm 60 cm² 8.74 cm 4.0 cm 5.48 cm 7.5 cm
3 5 × 8 cm 40 cm² 7.14 cm 4.0 cm 4.72 cm 5.0 cm

Read it as a buyer. One wick is out: a single flame would have to reach 8.50 cm to the corners, which no CSI tabbed wick claims. With two, each cell is close to square (0.94) and about the size of an 8.74 cm round jar: the territory where an 8 cm round jar's single-wick rungs (C2, Cotton Braided) sit, so 2 × C2 is the natural first arm. With three, each cell is narrow (0.62) and about a 7.14 cm round jar's area, which points at smaller wicks, but every wick still has to reach 4.0 cm to the long walls. That is why the three-wick layout gets two arms, 3 × C1 (enough across?) and 3 × C2 (too hot between?), and the two-wick layout one.

A starting count, labelled as judgement
Length ÷ width, rounded, is a quick first count for a line layout: it gives roughly square cells, where one wick's reach is similar in every direction. Here 1.88 rounds to two. For a vessel 20 × 8 cm it would be three; for 12 × 8 cm, two at most and possibly one wide-reaching wick. It is a place to start the ladder, not a substitute for it. Very wide and shallow vessels change the economics again: the wide, shallow container post.

Two cautions from the round-jar posts carry over. The zone between neighbours is heated from both sides, so the narrower the cells, the more that middle runs hot; that is the double-wick strip problem in the strip-between-two-wicks post, with one more neighbour. And two vessels of the same weight can need completely different systems when one is tall and narrow and the other short and wide: the tall versus wide post. An oval is a related but different shape, with no corners and a curved wall: the oval jar post.

The buy list for three arms

Nine candles, twenty-four wicks, and one honest optional line.

The 600 g fill is a worked example: a 15 × 8 cm vessel filled to 6 cm holds about 720 g of water, and a commonly used rule of thumb puts wax at roughly 0.86–0.9 of that (619 g–648 g); weigh a test pour in your own vessel. Load stays at 8% of total candle weight, CSI's convention (48 g of oil + 552 g of wax).

From nothing, the ladder costs ₹6,300.80 in cash before vessels; ₹6,800.80 with ten steel holders. Already own the oil and wax? Then it is ₹406.80. The nine candles consume ₹5,476.93 of materials, which excludes your vessels, labour, freight, packaging and GST.

3 × C2 ₹28.32 ₹7.50 ₹616.07 ₹1,848.20

Each candle carries ₹249.60 of oil and ₹330.65 of wax (₹580.25 before wicks); the wicks are 4.6% of even the dearest arm. Two C2 cost ₹1.18 more a candle than three C1, but three C1 need a third tab, a third sticker and a third placement. In a rectangle, the count is a labour and fixture decision as much as a wick one.

Don't buy the big pack, or a holder for every position: the C2 50-pack (₹472.00) and the C1 100-pack (₹590.00) cost the same per wick as the 20s, and a 25-pack of steel holders (₹1,250.00) to fix all 24 positions at once is a production convenience, not a test need. Argued against our own interest: for nine test candles, card strips across the width hold the wicks as well as steel; pour one arm per session if you buy only ten holders.

Placing wicks in a line, and holding them there

In a round jar the centre finds itself. In a rectangle every mark is a measurement.
1
Measure inside, at the fill lineLength and width at the base and at the fill line on three vessels; moulded or hand-made vessels vary. If the walls taper, the fill-line width is the reach that matters most for the first burns.
2
Draw the centre line and the cellsOn a paper template the size of the base: the long centre line, then equal cells (7.5 cm for two wicks, 5.0 cm for three) and a mark in the middle of each. Two wicks sit 3.75 cm from each end; three sit 2.5 cm from the ends.
3
Stick each tab on its markOne 10 mm sticker per tab. Check end distances and spacing with a ruler; label bases 2C2-1 to 3C2-3.
4
Bar across the width, one per wickA Steel Wick Holder laid across the short side, wick through the middle hole, slid along the vessel to sit over its mark (the page says "place it across your candle jar"; check your rim width is within its "up to 9 cm"). Or a card strip with a hole on the centre line. Never one bar along the length.
5
Pour all nine from one pot4,968 g of Chunks and 432 g of Lemongrass and Lime, mixed once. The Chunks page states no pour temperature in the text we captured; use your usual figure and keep it identical for every vessel, within any hot-pour limit your vessel's maker states.
6
Burn long sessions in still air, and log the cornersFour-hour sessions as a starting point (the long walls are 4.0 cm away, as in an 8 cm jar), trimmed to about 5–6 mm, burned within sight. Each hour: melt at both long walls, at the four corners and between wicks, and flame height. A fan or AC vent makes one end melt first; that is airflow, not wicking (the ceiling-fan post).

Fixtures for a production line are counted per pour batch, not per candle, because a holder is busy until the wax sets: the fixture-count post. Turning the approved spacing into a written fixture spec is the spacing-to-spec post.

What a rectangle has to pass

A rectangle fails at the corners first and between the wicks second. Write down what you accept before burn 1.

The same two gates as every ladder in this series, with rectangle-specific checks. Gate 1, by burn 3: all three candles of an arm melt to both long walls; corner wax is within the limit you set in advance; the zones between wicks are no deeper than the pool beside each wick; flames upright, no soot. Gate 2, the full life to about 1 cm left: still true, with no flame growing near the bottom and walls not running hot where a wick sits close (judge by eye, or with a non-contact thermometer, which CSI does not list; never by touch). Commonly cited rules of thumb put pool depth at about 0.5–1 cm and flame height at about 2.5–5 cm; the corner limit is your judgement, because many rectangular candles keep a little corner wax for life.

Long walls stay solid Long walls stay solid Hot between wicks, walls still solid The width is the problem: a wider-reaching wick per cell (two Cotton Braided) or a narrower vessel; ask us
Two of three candles pass Not decided: re-pour that arm from your spare wicks

Why prefer fewer wicks on a tie: every extra wick is a tab, a sticker, a fixture position and a placement to get wrong, on every candle you will ever pour. How far down a test candle must go before it counts, and what only shows in the second half, is the second-half problems post.

From the winning arm to production quantity

Count the wicks, then count the tabs, stickers and placements that come with them.

Once an arm passes the full life: wicks = candles × wicks per candle × (1 + allowance), 5% as our worked-example allowance. Because C1 and C2 are flat per wick, buy packs that sum to the number.

Christmas 25 December 2026 is 85 days from 1 October 2026 · flat per-wick pricing · stickers on 40-sheets · oil and wax for scale
Winning arm Wicks Packs that cover it Stickers
2 × C2 420 4 × 100 + 1 × 20 = ₹3,964.80 11 sheets = ₹1,100.00
3 × C1 630 6 × 100 + 1 × 50 = ₹3,835.00 16 sheets = ₹1,600.00
3 × C2 630 6 × 100 + 1 × 50 = ₹6,136.00 16 sheets = ₹1,600.00
For scale: Lemongrass and Lime 9,600 g — 10 × 1 kg = ₹52,000.00 —

Three C1 and two C2 land close in wick money (₹3,835.00 against ₹3,964.80 for 200 candles); the stickers and placements are where three wicks cost more. The oil (₹52,000.00) dwarfs both: the expensive mistake is 200 rectangles of Lemongrass and Lime poured on an unapproved layout. The general formula and the flat-per-wick explainer live in the cluster-one hub; if three wicks win and the middle one runs hot, the size-per-position question is the hot-centre triple post. Record the layout, spacing and fixture in your approved matrix (the approved-matrix post) so the next order buys the same thing.

Don't order the vessels in quantity before the wicks pass: if the width turns out to need a wider-reaching wick than any arm offers, the cheapest fix is a narrower vessel, and that is only cheap before you own 500 of the wide one. Planning one, two or three wicks before production quantities is the 4-inch luxury jar planning post's question for round jars; the same order of decisions applies here.

What to buy, and what to skip

Five items, in the order the ladder needs them, chosen on page statements, price and stock on 1 October 2026. CSI publishes no wick-performance data, so nothing here is ranked on burn results. Oil candle counts use 48 g per 600 g candle and 12 g per standard 150 g candle.

The page describes a "3-hole layout" for "single, double, or triple wick setups", sized for jars "up to 9 cm wide": "place it across your candle jar". The holes are in a line and the text we captured states no hole spacing. In a rectangle, that line is useful in one direction only: laid across the 8 cm width, one bar holds one wick on the centre line, so you use one bar per wick and slide each bar to its mark along the length. Laid along the 15 cm length, it is too short by its own page. Check that your vessel's outside width at the rim is within the bar's span before you buy. Argued against our own interest: card strips across the width do the same job for a test; the steel bars earn their place in repeat production.

The CSI principle
Width for reach, length for count, a ladder for the answer.
A rectangle has no diameter, but it has two numbers that do the same job. Three arms of three candles test two and three wicks in a line for ₹306.80 in wicks.
"Adding wicks to a rectangle shortens the walk to the ends. The walk to the long walls stays exactly as long."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the wicks, holders, stickers, oil and wax named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page still tells you that we list no rectangular candle vessel, that card strips work as well as our steel holders for a test, that our steel holder only spans the width, and that the bigger wick packs save nothing per wick.

Every price was verified on CSI's live store on 1 October 2026. Stock was checked per size: the Eco C1 10-pack and the 100-sticker sheet are out of stock on that date and are flagged wherever they appear; every other size shown is in stock. Product wording is quoted from the pages; where a page is silent in the text we captured, we say so.

The 15 × 8 cm vessel, the 600 g fill, the length ÷ width starting count, the likely two-C2 answer, the arm readouts, the 5% allowance and the 200-candle order are our judgement or worked examples; melt-pool depths and flame heights are commonly cited rules of thumb, not CSI data. Frequently asked questions

How do I choose a wick for a rectangular candle?
Measure the inside width and length. Half the width is how far every wick on the centre line must reach to the long walls; the length divided into equal cells gives the count. Then test two or three candidate layouts, three candles each, and approve on the full life.
How many wicks for a 15 × 8 cm rectangular candle?
Test two and three. Two give each wick a near-square cell of 60 cm²; three give narrow cells of 40 cm². Our judgement is that two C2 is the likelier answer; three C1 or three C2 are the arms above it.
Where do I place wicks in a rectangular container?
On the centre line of the long axis, one in the middle of each equal cell: for two wicks in 15 cm, 3.75 cm from each end and 7.5 cm apart; for three, 2.5 cm from the ends and 5.0 cm apart. These are starting points for testing.
Why does wax stay in the corners of my rectangular candle?
Corners are the farthest points from any wick: 5.48 cm away with two wicks in a 15 × 8 cm vessel. Some corner wax is common in rectangles; decide in advance how much you accept, and test three wicks if the corners matter more than the extra placement.
Can a steel wick holder be used on a rectangular vessel?
CSI's Steel Wick Holder is a straight bar for jars "up to 9 cm wide". Lay one across the width per wick, wick through the middle hole, and slide each to its mark. It is too short to lay along a 15 cm length.
Does CSI sell rectangular candle containers?
Not in our current container listings, which include no rectangular candle vessel. Ask on WhatsApp if you need one sourced; we will tell you plainly if we cannot.
Your rectangular vessel, wicked by measurement
C1 20 + C2 20 + 40 stickers = ₹406.80: two and three wicks in a line, three candles each.
Measure the inside length and width, draw equal cells on the centre line, pour nine 600 g candles at 8% Lemongrass and Lime, screen at burn 3 and approve one arm on the full life. Send us your vessel's size on WhatsApp and we will check the order before you pay.

About this guide: part of CSI's series on wick purchase × jar × wax × fragrance (5501–5600), cluster 5561–5580 on cotton, wooden and multi-wick choices. This page owns wick number and placement for a rectangular vessel as a purchase: that CSI lists no rectangular candle vessel, area per wick and reach from L × W (15 × 8 cm = 120 cm²), the two- and three-wick candidates and their buy list, the Steel Wick Holder used across the width for a line layout, the readout and the step to production.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — Bamboo Wick Holder, Eco Candle Wicks, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks for Jar / Container Candles, Tin Containers for Candle Making - 85 & 135g. They are general product reviews, not assessments of the wick-purchase advice on this page. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me and wording is unedited. "Verified buyer" appears only on reviews Judge.me recorded as verified — Sakshi Jain, Kaushiki Satarkar, Monika Deep, Jinal Monil. The reviews from Ashwini, Lalitha Jagan are published but not recorded as verified, and carry no badge. Reviews below five stars are included as published, not filtered out.

Non-price figures: load is a percentage of total candle weight (600 g at 8% = 48 g oil + 552 g wax). The 15 × 8 cm inside vessel and the 600 g fill are labelled assumptions; area = L × W; reach to long walls = W ÷ 2; corner reach = √((cell ÷ 2)² + (W ÷ 2)²); geometry, not burn prediction. The wax rule of thumb (0.86–0.9 × water weight) is labelled as such. Ceilings as the pages state them (Lemongrass and Lime "6-10% for candles"; Chunks "up to 13% fragrance load capacity", basis ambiguous): formulation limits, not regulatory ones. Melt-pool depths (about 0.5–1 cm) and flame heights (about 2.5–5 cm) are commonly cited rules of thumb. The starting count, likely answer, arm readouts, 5% allowance and 200-candle order are editorial judgement and worked examples. Costs exclude vessels, labour, freight, packaging and GST. Christmas 25 December 2026 is a calendar fact.
