Two jars that both hold 200 g can be two different candles: a small, deep pool for many sessions, or a wide, shallow one for a few. Bracket each on its own and plan the work in sessions to the bottom.
12 v 4
sessions to full life, tall-narrow v short-wide, worked example · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Two jars both hold 200 g, one tall and narrow, one short and wide. Why can they need completely different wick systems? Because the wick serves the pool and the depth, not the weight. In our worked example the wide jar's pool is 182.25 times the tall jar's, while the tall jar's wax column is more than twice as deep. One may want a single small wick for many sessions; the other may want two wicks for a few.

Can one bracket cover both? No. Run two brackets side by side: C1 v C2 in the tall jar, one Cotton Braided v two C1s in the wide jar, three candles per arm. Twelve candles, same wax, oil, load and room.

How long does each take? Plan by sessions to full life, not by days. In our worked example the tall jar needs about 12 three-hour sessions and the wide jar about 4 four-hour sessions: three times as many for the tall one.

Where does each fail, if it fails? The tall jar late, deep in a narrow column of glass, after many sessions. The wide jar early in calendar terms: its final third arrives by session 3, with the multi-wick questions of spacing and centre heat.
The short answer
The verdict: treat the two jars as two candle systems that happen to share a weight. Separate brackets, run in parallel, approved separately.
Tall-narrow (6.0 cm inside, worked example): one wick, C1 v C2, 3 candles each; about 34.9 hours to the 1 cm stop at a worked-example 5 g per hour; watch sessions 8–12.
Short-wide (9.0 cm inside): Cotton Braided v 2 × C1, 3 candles each; about 15.9 hours at 9 g per hour; the final third arrives by session 3.
The honest limit: CSI's 200 ml Salsa jar states no dimensions and holds less than 200 g of wax; CSI publishes no wick-performance data; burn rates here are worked examples you replace by weighing.
Same 200 g, different test calendars Side sections to scale, 3 px per mm. Bands = wax burned per session at worked-example burn rates (weigh yours). Dashed line = stop about 1 cm above the base. Wax depth from a 0.9 g per ml rule of thumb. Tall-narrow · 6.0 cm inside jar 9.5 cm tall · one wick (worked example) Short-wide · 9.0 cm inside jar 5 cm tall · two wicks shown (worked example) wax about 7.9 cm deep 12 sessions of 3 h about 0.59 cm each about 34.9 h to the stop at 5 g per hour, one wick final third: deep in a narrow column wax about 3.5 cm deep · 4 sessions of 4 h about 0.63 cm each · about 15.9 h to the stop at 9 g per hour, two wicks · final third in session 3 pool 28.27 cm² 25.4 g left below the stop pool 63.62 cm² · 31.81 cm² per wick 1 cm · burn rates, jar heights and wick builds are a worked example, not CSI data
Both candles hold 200 g. At our worked-example burn rates each session takes roughly the same 0.6 cm off the top, so the difference is the number of bands: 12 in the tall jar, 4 in the wide one. Below the dashed line is the last 1 cm that is not burned in testing: 25.4 g in the tall jar, 57.3 g in the wide jar. Jar heights, burn rates and wick builds are illustrative, not CSI data.
Straight answer
Two candle jars both hold 200 g, but one is tall and narrow while the other is short and wide. Why can they require completely different wick systems?
Because 200 g describes how much fuel the candle carries, and a wick is chosen for how that fuel is laid out. The narrow jar spreads it as a small pool over a deep column: one flame, a modest surface, many sessions, and a late burn that happens deep inside glass. The wide jar spreads the same weight as a large, shallow pool: more surface than one small flame can comfortably melt to the wall, few sessions, and a final third that arrives almost at once. So the narrow jar is usually a single-wick question, C1 against C2 at CSI, and the wide jar is often a one-big-wick-or-two-small-wicks question. Test them as two systems: a separate bracket for each, three candles per arm, poured the same day in the same wax, oil and load, and burned to about 1 cm left. Budget the work in sessions to full life rather than in candles, because the narrow jar will take about three times as many.
One line: equal weight is not equal candle; give each jar its own bracket and its own count of sessions to the bottom.
Both brackets in wicks: Eco C1 20 (₹118.00; the 10-pack is out of stock on 29 September 2026), Eco C2 10 (₹94.40) and Cotton Braided 10 (₹120.00). If you own wax, oil and both jars, that is the whole purchase.
Eco C1/C2 — from ₹94.40

Same grams, two different candles

One label weight, two candle systems. Test them like strangers.

Take our worked example: a jar 6.0 cm inside and a jar 9.0 cm inside, each filled with 200 g of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at 8% Jasmine (16 g oil + 184 g wax). At a rule-of-thumb 0.9 g of wax per ml, the narrow candle stands about 7.86 cm deep with a 28.27 cm² pool. The wide one stands about 3.49 cm deep with a 63.62 cm² pool, 182.25 times the area. Why a wider, shallower pool asks more of a single wick is the physics of the tall-narrow versus short-wide post, and how +50% weight translates into area is the 200 g to 300 g mismatch table. This page takes the physics as given and plans the testing.

What matters for planning is that the two candles differ in three ways at once. Pool: the wide jar needs more melting power at the surface; with two wicks, each faces 31.81 cm², close to the narrow jar's 28.27 cm². Depth: the narrow jar has more than twice as much wax column for the flame to travel down, and the last few centimetres sit inside a tube of glass that has been absorbing heat for hours. Life: the narrow candle burns for many more sessions before its final third, so its problems surface late in the calendar; the wide candle's surface early.

That is why "completely different wick systems" is often literally true. The narrow jar may be a single C1 or C2 for a dozen sessions. The wide jar may be two C1s for four. Same oil, same wax, same load, same 200 g, different answers, and neither result tells you anything about the other.

The per-wick numbers can look alike
Two C1s in the wide jar each face 31.81 cm²; one wick in the narrow jar faces 28.27 cm². Similar figures do not mean the same wick wins in both. Two flames share heat across the middle of a wide pool, and a single flame in a deep narrow jar meets the glass differently late on. Use the per-wick area to choose the arms, never to skip the test.

Measure first: which jar is which

"Tall" and "wide" are not measurements. Before you plan anything, measure each jar inside at rim, middle and base, twice at right angles, and weigh water to your fill line. If a jar tapers, the pool you test at the top is not the pool you will have near the bottom; that is its own problem, and worth knowing before the bracket starts.

1
Inside diameter at three heightsA steel ruler or inside callipers at the rim; a card strip curled inside at mid-height and about 1 cm above the base, overlap marked, length divided by 3.14.
2
Usable heightFrom the inside floor to your fill line. Subtract 1 cm for the stop line: that is the wax the test will actually burn.
3
Water, then waxWeigh water to the fill line, then make one test pour in your wax and weigh it. Commonly used rules of thumb put wax at roughly 0.86–0.9 times the water weight; the weighed pour is the figure to use.
4
Label the systemWrite each jar's inside diameter, usable height and fill grams on the batch sheet. If either jar is a stated "200 g" that weighs differently, use your weighed fill and keep the load at 8% of it.
5
Check the holder against the rimThe Steel Wick Holder's page says it fits jars up to 9 cm wide, with three holes in a line and no stated pitch. A jar 9.0 cm inside is wider than 9 cm outside, so test the fit before relying on it; two sticks work too.

Whether the figure to choose a wick by is the capacity or the inside diameter is the 200 ml, 7 cm question. Here the answer is assumed: inside diameter for the bracket, weighed fill for the grams.

Argued against our own interest: CSI's 200ml Salsa Glass Jar with 63mm Lug Cap (Golden Lid) is a natural candidate for a 200-something candle, but its page states no body diameter or height, and 63 mm is the cap size. We cannot tell you whether it is tall-narrow or short-wide. And 200 ml to the brim holds roughly 172–180 g of wax by the common rules of thumb, so it is not a 200 g jar at all; with headspace, less again. Measure five before you build a product around it, or ask us for the dimensions.

Two brackets, run side by side

Twelve candles, one pour day, one room. Only the wick build differs within each jar.

Hold everything except the wick build: same CSI 464 bag, Jasmine at 8% on total weight, the same pour temperature (the CSI 464 page states 80°C–90°C; if your jar states a lower hot-pour limit, the lower figure governs), one cure, one still room. Within each jar vary one thing. Across the jars nothing is being compared: you are running two experiments on the same bench to share a calendar, not one experiment with two jars.

The paired bracket · worked example
200 g at 8% Jasmine in CSI 464 · 3 candles per arm · all burned to about 1 cm left · spacing is a labelled starting point
Jar Arm Build Why Candles
Tall-narrow, 6.0 cm inside T1 One Eco C1, centred CSI’s smallest sized, tabbed wick; 3.0 cm to the wall 3
Tall-narrow, 6.0 cm inside T2 One Eco C2, centred One rung up; Cotton Braided’s page puts it above this jar 3
Short-wide, 9.0 cm inside W1 One Cotton Braided, centred Page wording: "large-diameter candles exceeding 8 cm" 3
Short-wide, 9.0 cm inside W2 Two Eco C1, 3.5 cm apart Each faces 31.81 cm²; 2.75 cm to the wall 3
Both 12

Three candles per arm, not two, because both jars carry a risk that one odd candle could hide: the tall jar's late heat and the wide jar's two-wick balance. The 3.5 cm spacing is geometry that leaves each flame 2.75 cm from the wall; where to place two wicks before comparing sizes is the 9 cm placement post. If W2 leaves a strip between the pools, that is a spacing finding, not a size verdict. And if you want to know which is better in a wide jar, one larger wick or two smaller ones, at 8.5 cm, that comparison has its own page: one or two wicks at 8.5 cm.

Reading the two brackets · our judgement
"Passes" = at least 2 of 3 candles clear full life inside your written flame, pool, soot, cap and heat standard
Jar Result Decision
Tall T1 passes, T2 runs hot late C1. The late sessions decided it, not burn 1
Tall T1 tunnels, T2 passes C2; watch its final sessions in the next batch
Tall T1 tunnels, T2 hot late Between CSI rungs. Ask us; another supplier’s in-between size may fit
Wide W1 passes, W2 passes Choose on production and the late burn; one wick is quicker to set
Wide W1 leaves wall wax or soots, W2 passes Two wicks
Wide W2 leaves a strip; W1 passes One wick, or re-test the pair further apart before going up a size
Wide Neither passes Next round: 2 × C2, or W2 at a new spacing; one change at a time

The test-hour budget: sessions to full life

Count sessions, not candles. The calendar runs on sessions.

A bracket is not finished until its candles reach about 1 cm left, so the cost that matters is how many valid sessions each candle needs. That depends on how much wax sits above the stop line and how fast the candle burns it. Measure the rate: weigh each candle before and after its first two sessions and divide by hours. Our worked example assumes 5 g per hour for the single wick in the tall jar and 9 g per hour for two C1s in the wide jar; yours will differ, and the budget should be redone with your figures.

Test-hour budget · worked example
0.9 g per ml rule of thumb · 1 cm stop · burn rates illustrative · session length: about 3 h for 6 cm, about 4 h for 9 cm (our judgement)
Line Tall-narrow, 6.0 cm Short-wide, 9.0 cm
Wax below the 1 cm stop (not burned in testing) 25.4 g 57.3 g
Wax burned to the stop 174.6 g 142.7 g
Burn rate (worked example) 5.0 g per hour, one wick 9.0 g per hour, two C1
Hours to the stop, per candle about 34.9 h about 15.9 h
Session length 3 h (rule of thumb about 2.4 h for the first burn) 4 h (about 3.6 h for the first burn)
Sessions to the stop, per candle 12 4
Depth burned per session about 0.59 cm about 0.63 cm
Six candles: candle-hours 209 95
Six candles: candle-sessions 72 24

The tall jar needs 3 times as many sessions per candle. Burn one session per candle per day with a full cool-down overnight (our judgement; never stack sessions on a warm candle) and, after a 7-day cure, the wide bracket is finished on day 11 and the tall bracket on day 19. Run both on one bench and the wide jar's answer arrives eight days before the tall jar's. If the wide jar used one Cotton Braided at a slower rate than our 9 g per hour, it would need more sessions; re-run the budget once you have weighed the first two sessions of each arm.

For a calendar: Diwali is 8 November 2026, 40 days from 29 September 2026. A bench poured this week reaches the tall jar's last session about 19 days later, which leaves room for one retest round, but not two. Budgeting a much larger commercial programme the same way, in grams per hour and shifts, is the 12 cm test-count budget; the 7 cm full-life calendar is the full-life calendar post.

Mistake: stopping the tall jar's bracket when the wide jar's finishes, because "the candles have had the same number of days". Why it fails: on day 11 the tall candles have burned about a third of their wax; their final third, where heat commonly builds, has not started. Fix: each bracket ends at its own stop line. Mark each candle's session count on its base.

Late burn: where each jar fails, if it fails

Both jars can pass the first three burns and fail later, but not in the same way. These are tendencies to watch for, not predictions; neither CSI nor anyone else can tell you from geometry alone which one your candles will show.

Late-burn watch list · tendencies
Observe flame, pool, soot and flame-to-glass distance · judge glass heat by observation or a non-contact thermometer (CSI lists none), never by touch
What to watch Tall-narrow Short-wide
When the final third starts From about session 8 of 12 in the worked example: late in the calendar Session 3 of 4: almost at once
Heat build Glass above the pool has absorbed heat for many sessions; the pool can deepen and the flame grow low down (commonly) Less glass above the pool; heat concentrates between two flames in the centre (commonly)
Flame and glass Narrow jar: less room between flame and wall; any drift matters more Two flames: check each one’s distance to the wall and to each other
Wick behaviour Carbon build-up on the wick after many sessions (commonly with longer burns) Wick tabs near the pool sooner in shallow wax; one wick drowning or leaning
Typical failing arm The larger wick (C2), late The single wick leaving wall wax, or the pair running hot in the centre

For the tall jar, why a flame that behaved at the top grows halfway down is the flame-grows-halfway post, and what only appears in the second half of a candle's life is the second-half problems post. For the wide jar, when the bottom of a multi-wick candle becomes hot is the multi-wick bottom-heat post. Read them before you approve either jar on its first few sessions.

Log by remaining height, not by session number
Session 6 means something different in the two jars. Record the wax height left at the start of every session for both jars, then compare flame and heat notes at the same remaining height, such as 3 cm, 2 cm and 1.5 cm. That keeps the late burn honest across shapes.

200ml Salsa Glass Jar with 63mm Lug Cap (Golden Lid)
The page describes an upcycled salsa jar whose "200ml capacity provides ample space for crafting beautiful votive or single-wick candles", with a wide mouth and "Heat Resistant Glass" that "withstands the heat of hot wax without cracking or warping". It states no body diameter, height or hot-pour figure; 63 mm is the lug-cap size, not the body. So we cannot tell you whether it is the tall or the wide jar of this page: measure it. Its coloured sister listings say "Pairs well with C2 Eco Wicks"; this clear listing does not, and either way that is one bracket rung, not a rule. Argued against our own interest: 200 ml to the brim is roughly 172–180 g of wax by common rules of thumb, so it cannot take a 200 g candle; it is a smaller candle in its own right.

C1 v C2 is the whole tall-jar bracket at CSI, and two C1s are one arm of the wide jar. The page states no length, width or jar range in the text we captured. The plan needs 9 C1 and 3 C2. Stock on 29 September 2026: the C1 10-pack is out of stock, so buy the 20; for C2 the 10-pack is enough, and the 20-pack (₹188.80, ₹9.44 a wick, the same price per wick) only makes sense if you add a 2 × C2 arm to the wide jar later. Limitation: no sized, tabbed wick between C1 and C2.

Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made
The page says it is "engineered for large-diameter candles exceeding 8 cm", which makes it the single-wick arm for a 9.0 cm inside jar; "preventing tunneling" is the page's claim, which the bracket tests. The page also gives "Height of the wick is 10.16 cm": far taller than a 5 cm jar needs, so trim before the first burn. Flat ₹12.00 per wick. Limitation: it is the top of CSI's sized range; above it the only step is more wicks.

The page states "Recommended load up to 10% soy, up to 6% paraffin", "0% vanillin - no discolouration" and a soy cure of 48-72 hours, and describes it as sweet, floral and slightly musky. A lighter floral keeps oil-driven carbon build-up out of the way while you compare jar shapes (a tendency, not a promise). The plan needs 192 g: two 100 g bottles (₹860.00) leave 8 g. Per gram the 500 g and 1 kg are cheaper (₹3.92), but not until a jar is approved.

Candle Making Weighing Scale
The test-hour budget on this page rests on grams per hour. Weigh each candle before and after its first two sessions and divide by hours burned; that replaces our worked-example 5 and 9 g per hour with yours. The page states no capacity or resolution in the text we captured, so check it against a known weight. Argued against our own interest: any kitchen scale that reads single grams does this job.
Pack Price Per unit What it covers here

Weigh before and after each session. Buy — ₹354.00
What to skip: wick packs of 50 and up (flat per wick, so nothing saved before a pass); the C2 20-pack unless a 2 × C2 wide arm follows; a 50-piece Salsa pack before five have been measured; and Jasmine's 500 g before either jar is approved.
The CSI principle
Same weight, separate brackets.
A 200 g candle is a system of pool, depth and life. Bracket each shape on its own, budget it in sessions to the bottom, and approve neither on the other's result.
"The narrow jar tests your patience. The wide jar tests your spacing. Neither tests the other."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the wicks, oil, wax and the 200 ml jar named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page still says our Salsa jar states no dimensions and holds less than 200 g, that the C2 10-pack is enough for this plan, and that a kitchen scale will do.

Every price was verified on CSI's live store on 29 September 2026. Stock was checked per size: the Eco C1 10-pack is out of stock on that date and is flagged wherever it appears; every other size shown is in stock. Jar wording, wick wording and temperatures are quoted from the product pages; where a page is silent in the text we captured, we say so.

The two worked-example jars, burn rates, session lengths, spacing, the 0.9 g per ml rule of thumb and the bracket readings are our judgement or illustration; late-burn behaviour is described as tendencies; CSI publishes no wick-performance data. Frequently asked questions

Do two candle jars with the same capacity need the same wick?
Not necessarily. A tall narrow jar and a short wide jar holding the same wax have different pool areas and depths. Bracket each jar separately and approve each on its own full-life test.
Why does my wide candle tunnel when the same wick works in a narrow jar?
The wide jar's pool is larger, so one small flame may not melt it to the wall. Test one larger wick against two smaller wicks in the wide jar, three candles each, through full life.
How many burns does it take to test a candle to the bottom?
Weigh the candle before and after its first two sessions to get grams per hour, then divide the wax above a 1 cm stop by that rate and by your session length. In our worked example a narrow 200 g candle needed about 12 sessions and a wide one about 4.
Should a short wide candle jar have two wicks?
Often it is a candidate. In a 9.0 cm inside jar two wicks each face about 31.81 cm² of pool. Test two small wicks against one larger wick before deciding.
Why does a tall candle get hotter near the bottom?
Commonly because the glass above the pool has absorbed heat over many sessions and the flame burns deep inside it; the pool can deepen and the flame grow. Watch the final third closely and never judge glass heat by touch.
How much wax fits in a 200 ml candle jar?
Less than 200 g. Common rules of thumb put wax at about 0.86–0.9 times the water weight, roughly 172–180 g to the brim, less with headspace. Weigh a test pour to your fill line.

About this guide: part of CSI's commercial wick-matrix cluster (4281–4300): a paired-bracket plan for two 200 g jars of different shapes, with a test-hour budget in sessions to full life, the late-burn differences between tall-narrow and short-wide candles, and a costed twelve-candle bench.

Non-price figures: load is a percentage of total candle weight (200 g at 8% = 16 g oil + 184 g wax). Pool area = π r² on inside diameters; depths use a 0.9 g per ml rule of thumb (commonly used figures run about 0.86–0.9 × water weight). Burn rates of 5 and 9 g per hour, session lengths, jar heights and the 3.5 cm spacing are worked-example assumptions; first-burn times use the rough one-hour-per-2.5 cm rule of thumb. Late-burn behaviour is described as tendencies. CSI 464 pour 80–90°C is page wording. Costs exclude labour, freight, packaging and GST. Diwali 8 November 2026 is a calendar fact.
