saved on this 24-scent range by buying each oil at its largest in-stock size instead of 100 g — ₹4,470.53 a month on ₹83,265.79 · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How do I compare fragrance oil suppliers? With a weighted scorecard used identically for every supplier: performance in your wax (30), availability at your production size (20), bulk pricing (15), lot consistency (15), documentation (10), range and sample sizes (10). See the scorecard.

How does CSI score honestly? Strong on range (93 oils), sample sizes (24 of this 24-scent list in 15 g) and availability (22 of 24 in stock at 1 kg). Gaps: no throw data, some sizes out of stock, and no published lead times, lot tolerances or discounts. See CSI against the card.

Does buying bigger from one supplier save money? On this range, buying each oil at its largest in-stock size instead of 100 g saves 5.4% (₹4,470.53 a month). Most of that comes from the 10 oils with a real kilo break; the rest are priced almost flat.

What should I never consolidate without? Your own performance tests in your wax, retained samples of every lot, and a backup source for your top few scents. See concentration risk.

Straight answer
I need one fragrance oil supplier for dozens of candle scents — how do I compare performance, consistency, documentation, bulk pricing and availability before consolidating purchasing?
Build one weighted scorecard and apply it identically to every candidate supplier. Weight what can hurt you most: performance in your wax (30) — which only your own controlled tests can score; availability at your production size (20) — the share of your list in stock at 1 kg; bulk pricing (15) — per-gram steps and quotes beyond listed packs; lot consistency (15) — how lots are identified and changes notified; documentation (10) — MSDS, IFRA certificate, GST invoice; and range and sample sizes (10). Score 1–5 on evidence, not promises. Assessed honestly on a 24-scent range, CSI has 22 of 24 in stock at 1 kg and all 24 in 15 g, with MSDS, IFRA and GST invoicing on request. The gaps are real: no throw data, some sizes out of stock (Vetiver 1 kg, Freshwater 500 g and 1 kg), and no published lead times, lot tolerances or discount figures — ask on WhatsApp. Consolidating that range at kilo sizes saves 5.4% against 100 g. Keep retained samples and a backup source for your top scents.
One line: score suppliers on what they can show you, and leave blank what only your wax can answer.
The range used on this page is 24 scents from CSI's catalogue — a realistic mix of florals, gourmands, woods, fresh and fruit. Qualifying all 24 from 15 g costs ₹2,644.60. At 40 candles per scent per month, the range uses 15,360 g of oil a month. Send us your own list and we will check it against stock.

The scorecard

A supplier that is good for five scents can still be the wrong supplier for fifty.

Consolidation changes what matters. With five scents you care about how each one smells. With thirty you also care about whether they are in stock when you reorder, whether a lot change will be noticed, whether the paperwork exists for every oil when a corporate buyer asks, and whether the price steps reward the volume you are about to concentrate. The scorecard below puts those on one page with weights. Use the same card for every supplier you are considering — including us — and score from evidence you can see, not from a sales conversation.

Score each criterion 1–5 · weighted total out of 500 · use the same card for every supplier
The consolidation scorecard
Criterion Weight What earns a 5 Evidence to collect
Performance in your wax 30 Your controlled tests pass for most of your list at your load Blind burn scores from a controlled build — I Want to Compare 20 Candle Fragrance Oils Objectively — How Do I Create Identical Test Candles so Wax Quantity, Fragrance Load, Wick, Jar and Cure Time Remain Controlled?
Availability at production size 20 Every scent in stock at the size you reorder Stock at 1 kg (or your size) for your list, checked on one day
Bulk pricing 15 Clear per-gram steps and written quotes beyond listed packs Per-gram at 100 g vs 1 kg for your list; a written quote
Lot consistency 15 Lots identified; changes notified; single-lot orders possible Written answers — see I Need the Same Candle Fragrance for Several Years — What Should I Ask a Supplier About Batch Consistency, Availability and Reformulation Before Building a Bestseller Around It?
Documentation 10 MSDS and IFRA certificate for every oil; GST invoice Request the documents for three of your scents
Range and sample sizes 10 Your whole list, each available as a small test size Count of your list with a 15 g or similar

Performance carries the biggest weight because it is the one that decides whether a customer comes back, and it is the one no catalogue can score for you. No supplier's claims about throw substitute for your wax, wick, jar and cure. If a supplier offers throw ratings, treat them as a reason to test first, not a result. I'm Buying Fragrance Oil Online — How Can I Tell Whether It Has Actually Been Tested for Candle Hot Throw Rather than Just Smelling Good from the Bottle? covers how to judge whether an oil has been candle-tested at all.

Score availability on your list, on one day
"Most of our range is in stock" is not a score. Take your actual list, check every scent at the size you would reorder, on the same day, and count. Then check again a month later. Two snapshots tell you more than any promise. On this page's 24-scent list, the pull on 24 September 2026 gives the numbers in the next section.

CSI against the card, honestly

Here is CSI scored against its own card, using only what our published data shows for the 24-scent range. Where the data says nothing, we say so. You will notice that two of the three heaviest criteria cannot be scored from our catalogue at all. That is not modesty; it is the honest state of the evidence.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. We would like you to consolidate with us. On the evidence we can publish, we are a reasonable candidate on range, sample sizes and availability, and we cannot yet give you written lead times, discount figures or lot tolerances in advance — you have to ask. Two scents on this list, Vetiver and Freshwater, were not available at production size on the pull date. Do not consolidate your top sellers with any single supplier, including us, without a tested backup, and do not score our performance until you have burned our oils in your wax.

Look at the gap column as a to-do list rather than a verdict. Each "ask" becomes a WhatsApp message with your list attached: lead time for your monthly quantity, whether lots can be identified on the invoice, a written quote for the volume you plan, and documents for three named oils. The answers either raise the score or tell you where to hold buffer stock. I Need the Same Candle Fragrance for Several Years — What Should I Ask a Supplier About Batch Consistency, Availability and Reformulation Before Building a Bestseller Around It? lists the lot and reformulation questions in full.

What consolidation saves on a real range

Consolidation saves more in reorders and admin than in rupees per gram. Here is the rupee part, exactly.

Take the 24-scent range at 40 candles per scent per month (your volume replaces ours): 960 candles and 15,360 g of oil, 640 g per scent. The table compares buying each oil at 100 g against buying it at its largest in-stock size. For 22 oils that is 1 kg; for Vetiver it is 500 g (the 1 kg was out of stock) and for Freshwater only 100 g (both larger sizes were out).

640 g per scent per month · 200 g candles at 8% · oil at each size's per-gram price
Monthly oil cost for the 24-scent range
Buying pattern Monthly oil cost Per candle (average) Difference
Every oil at 100 g ₹83,265.79 ₹86.74 —
Every oil at its largest in-stock size ₹78,795.26 ₹82.08 ₹4,470.53 (5.4%) less
Of which: the 10 oils with a ≥5% kilo break — — British Rose, Citrus Lemon, Jasmine, Eucalyptus Spearmint, Lemongrass and Lime, Cinnamon Vanilla, Mango Coconut, Verbena, Pumpkin Spice, Ylang Ylang Flower

The saving is real but modest: 5.4%, and concentrated in the 10 oils with a genuine kilo break — British Rose (10.3%), Verbena (20.0%), Lemongrass and Lime (11.9%) and others. For most oils in CSI's listed catalogue, 1 kg is within 1% of 100 g per gram (52 of 91 oils). The case for consolidating at kilo sizes is fewer lots to test, fewer reorders and stock security, with a price benefit on a minority of scents. Beyond the listed packs, volume is quoted on WhatsApp; no discount figure is published, so do not build one into your plan until you have it in writing.

Per candle, the range's fragrance cost runs from ₹45.31 (Citrus Lemon) to ₹190.40 (Freshwater (BBW Inspired), bought at 100 g because nothing larger was in stock). That last figure shows availability and price interacting: a scent you cannot buy at production size costs you both more per gram and more lots per month. I Want to Reduce Fragrance Cost Without Making My Candles Smell Weaker — Should I First Optimise Dosage, Wax Compatibility, Wick Performance or Fragrance Selection? covers cutting fragrance cost without weakening the candle, and I'm Making 500 Candles Across Five Fragrances — How Do I Divide My Fragrance Oil Purchase When Some Scents Are Expected to Sell More than Others? covers splitting stock across scents that sell at different rates.

Concentration risk

Every advantage of consolidation has a mirror-image risk. One supplier means one set of stock-outs, one courier route, one set of lots to track and one relationship to depend on. The usual answer is not to avoid consolidation but to consolidate the long tail and protect the top. Your top three to five scents by revenue each get a buffer, retained samples and a tested backup — ideally from a second source. The other twenty consolidate freely.

Consolidate the tail, protect the top · example split for a 24-scent range
How much protection each tier needs
Tier Scents Buy Protection
Top sellers 3–5 1 kg (or larger on a written quote) Buffer stock, retained sample of every lot, a backup oil already tested
Core range 10–15 1 kg or 500 g Retained samples; reorder before the last bottle is opened
Seasonal and test 5–10 100 g or 50 g None beyond normal testing; drop or promote after the season
Consolidating on a sample order. A common pattern: a supplier's first delivery of a few scents is excellent, so the whole range moves over in one go. The first order proved documents, packing and delivery for those scents; it proved nothing about the other twenty, or about the next lot. Move scents in waves — top sellers last, after the core range has been through at least one reorder — and run every moved scent through the tests in I'm Switching Fragrance Oil Suppliers to Reduce Cost — Which Cold Throw, Hot Throw, Colour, Wick and Stability Tests Should I Repeat Before Production? before it goes into production.
The CSI principle
Consolidate the tail. Insure the top.
One supplier for your whole range saves time, freight and admin. It also puts every scent behind the same stock-outs and the same silence about lots. Put your top sellers behind a buffer, a retained sample and a tested backup, and let the rest of the list enjoy the simplicity.

Running the assessment

1
Write your list and volumesEvery scent, the size you reorder, and monthly grams. For a 200 g candle at 8%, grams = candles × 16.
2
Check availability on one dayFor each supplier, count how many of your scents are in stock at your reorder size. Repeat a month later. Score 5 × share in stock.
3
Price your list, not their cataloguePer gram at 100 g and at 1 kg for every scent, and the monthly total at each. Ask for a written quote for the volume you will actually buy.
4
Ask the questions in writingLead time for your monthly order, lot identification, reformulation notice, single-lot orders, documents. Score the answers you receive, not the ones you expect.
5
Request documents for three scentsMSDS and IFRA certificate for three named oils. How quickly and completely they arrive is part of the score.
6
Test performance in your waxQualify a sample of your list — at least your top sellers — in a controlled build. I Have 30 Fragrance Samples but Only Want to Launch Five Candles — What Testing Sequence Can Eliminate Poor Performers Before I Waste Wax and Wicks on Full Burn Tests? shows how to test many oils cheaply; I'm Switching Fragrance Oil Suppliers to Reduce Cost — Which Cold Throw, Hot Throw, Colour, Wick and Stability Tests Should I Repeat Before Production? lists the tests to repeat when moving scents from another supplier.
7
Total the card and decide what to protectWeighted total out of 500. Then decide which scents stay protected regardless of the score. I'm Building a Commercial Scented-Candle Range in India — How Do I Select Fragrance Oils That Balance Hot Throw, Cold Throw, Wax Compatibility, Wick Performance, Cost per Candle and Reliable Bulk Availability? uses the same logic to select a whole commercial range.
The supplier with the biggest catalogue is not the one with your list in stock.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. This page scores CSI against a card we would ask you to use for any supplier, and it lists our gaps plainly: no published throw data, some sizes out of stock on the pull date, and no published lead times, lot tolerances or discount figures. It also advises you not to put your top sellers with any single supplier without a tested backup.

Prices and stock status are CSI live data pulled on 24 September 2026. The counts (22 of 24 at 1 kg, 21 with every size in stock, 24 in 15 g, 10 with a ≥5% kilo break), monthly costs (₹83,265.79 at 100 g, ₹78,795.26 at the largest in-stock size) and evidence-based scores are plain arithmetic on that pull.

The weights, the 1–5 scale, the 40-candles-per-scent volume and the tier split are working assumptions for illustration — adjust them to your business. For stock checks, lead times, lot questions, documents or a quote on your list, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

How do I choose a fragrance oil supplier for my candle business?
Score each candidate on the same weighted card: performance in your wax (from your own tests), availability of your list at your reorder size, bulk pricing, lot consistency, documentation, and range with sample sizes. Score on evidence you can see, and ask in writing for what is not published.
Is it better to buy all fragrance oils from one supplier?
It saves admin, freight and reorders, and on kilo sizes it can save some money. It also concentrates your risk. Consolidate the long tail of your range and protect your top sellers with buffer stock, retained samples and a tested backup.
How much can I save by buying fragrance oil in bulk?
On CSI's listed prices, less than most makers assume. For the 24-scent range here, buying at the largest in-stock size instead of 100 g saves 5.4%. Most oils are near-flat above 100 g; 10 of these 24 show a kilo saving of 5% or more. Volume beyond listed packs is quoted on WhatsApp; no discount figure is published.
What documents should a fragrance oil supplier provide?
At minimum an MSDS and an IFRA certificate for each oil you use, and a GST invoice. CSI provides MSDS and IFRA documentation on request and GST invoicing on orders. Request documents for a few named oils before consolidating.
Does CSI publish fragrance throw ratings?
No. CSI publishes no throw, cure-time or dosage data for any oil. Performance has to be scored from your own controlled tests in your wax. I Want to Compare 20 Candle Fragrance Oils Objectively — How Do I Create Identical Test Candles so Wax Quantity, Fragrance Load, Wick, Jar and Cure Time Remain Controlled? shows how to build a fair comparison.
What are CSI's lead times and bulk discounts?
Neither is published. The listed packs go up to 1 kg per oil; larger quantities and delivery timing are handled on WhatsApp. Send your list and monthly quantities and ask for a written quote and lead time.

Monthly cost = 640 g × per-gram price at the stated size, summed over 24 scents; Chocolate Fudge's 100 g row uses its 1 kg price because the 100 g was out of stock.
