A 50 g candle has a small pool, so throw comes from a strong-performing oil near the top of its stated range, a wick that builds a full pool fast, and a proper cure.
9.89%
a 9% total load expressed on the product page's wax-weight basis, just inside Woody Oud's 10%
Quick answers — read this first
Can a 50 g candle have strong hot throw? It can be noticeable in a small room, cabin or bedside. Its small melt pool will not fill a large open office, so set that expectation with the client.

What fragrance load for a 50 g mini? Test 7% and 9% of total weight. On Woody Oud, 9% of total equals 9.89% of wax weight, just inside its stated 6–10% soy range.

Is coconut-soy better than soy for minis? Test both. CSI 468 accepts up to 13% per its page, but the oil page still sets the ceiling, and CSI 468 costs more per kg.

Which wick for a 50 g mini? The smallest that reaches the glass quickly. Start with Eco C1 and compare Eco C2; CSI publishes no wick chart.
The short answer
Four levers: Oil performance, load within the stated range, speed to a full pool, and cure time.
Load conversion: Total-weight % ÷ (1 − that %) gives wax-weight %: 9% total = 4.5 g ÷ 45.5 g = 9.89% of wax.
Extra oil cost: Raising Woody Oud from 7% to 9% in a 50 g candle adds ₹4.53 per unit.
Material cost per 50 g corporate mini464 at 7%₹66464 at 9%₹71468 at 9%₹77
Moving from 7% to 9% adds ₹4.53 per mini, and switching to CSI 468 adds ₹5.89 more; both have to earn their cost in testing.
Straight answer
I Want to Make 50 g Mini Jar Candles for Corporate Gifting — How Do I Get Noticeable Hot Throw From Such a Small Candle?
Make the small pool work hard rather than expecting it to act like a big jar. Choose an oil that performs in wax, such as Woody Oud, and test it at 7% and 9% of total weight; 9% equals 9.89% of wax weight, just inside its stated 6–10% soy range. Test the smallest wick that reaches the glass quickly, starting with Eco C1 and comparing C2, and run CSI 464 against CSI 468. Cure for at least the stated 48–72 hours and re-score at a week. In the worked example a 50 g mini costs about ₹70.62 in materials before packaging.
One line: a 50 g candle throws best with a proven oil near its stated ceiling, a wick that pools fast, and a cure you do not rush.
Woody Oud lists soy 6–10% and a cure of 48–72 hours on its page; its 100 g pack (₹453.12) covers a full 16-candle test matrix.

What a 50 g candle can and cannot do

A 50 g candle has a small melt pool, and hot throw comes from that pool, so the goal is to make a small surface work as hard as it can, not to pretend it is a large one.

Hot throw is fragrance released from the liquid wax around the flame. A full-size jar has a wide pool with a large surface; a 50 g mini has a pool a fraction of that size. Even with the same oil at the same load, less surface means less fragrance in the air per minute. That is physics, not a formulation failure.

For a corporate gift this sets an honest expectation. A well-made 50 g candle can scent a desk, a small cabin or a bedside, and it can smell excellent unlit on the day it is unboxed. It will not fill an open-plan office. Telling the client that up front protects you from a complaint you could never have fixed with materials.

Within those limits, four levers decide how noticeable the throw is: the oil you choose, the load within its stated range, how quickly the wick builds a full pool, and how long the candle cures. Wax matters too, but less than most makers expect at this size.

Lever one and two: the oil and its load

Choose an oil that performs in wax, not one that only shines in the bottle. For an executive gift a warm woody profile is a common brief, and Woody Oud is a reasonable first candidate: top notes of citrus and spice, a heart of oud and patchouli, and a base of woods, amber and musk. One reviewer called it a "Good quality wood fragrance oil with a warm, long-lasting scent and strong performance in candles." That is one buyer's view; your test is what counts.

Then push the load towards the top of the oil's stated range, carefully. Product pages state load as a percentage of wax weight; this series uses a percentage of total candle weight. Woody Oud's page gives soy 6–10%. At 9% of a 50 g candle, the oil is 4.5 g and the wax 45.5 g, and 4.5 ÷ 45.5 = 9.89% of wax weight, just inside the page's 10%. A 10% total load would be 5 g in 45 g of wax, or 11.1% of wax weight, which is outside it.

The oil page is the ceiling
CSI 468's page allows up to 13% fragrance, but the oil's own page still governs. Choosing a wax that accepts more oil does not license going past what the oil page states.

Compare two loads, because more oil does not always give more throw, and the extra costs money. Going from 7% to 9% adds 1 g of Woody Oud per candle: 1 g × ₹4.5312 per g (₹4,531.20 ÷ 1,000 g) = ₹4.53. If testers cannot tell the difference after cure, keep the ₹4.53.

Lever three: the wick and the pool, and where wax fits

In a mini, the speed at which the pool reaches the glass matters as much as the final size of the pool. A gift that is lit for half an hour before a meeting needs to throw within that half-hour. Test the smallest wick that reaches the edge of your jar in a reasonable time, starting with Eco C1 and comparing Eco C2, because CSI publishes no wick chart or melt-pool figure.

Wax is the comparison to run alongside. CSI 464 is a 100% soy container flake with a stated load up to 10%; CSI 468 is a coconut-soy blend with a stated melt point of 50–53°C and a stated load up to 13%. Test both rather than assuming the blend throws better. The honest note here is about cost, not quality: CSI 468 costs ₹6,370.00 per 10 kg against ₹5,074.00 for CSI 464, so it has to earn its premium in your own test.

Test matrix
50 g corporate mini, Woody Oud (suggested starting points)
Cell Wax Load Wicks Candles
A CSI 464 7% (3.5 g oil) C1 and C2 2 + 2
B CSI 464 9% (4.5 g oil) C1 and C2 2 + 2
C CSI 468 7% (3.5 g oil) C1 and C2 2 + 2
D CSI 468 9% (4.5 g oil) C1 and C2 2 + 2

Sixteen candles in all. The oil needed is 8 × 3.5 g + 8 × 4.5 g = 64 g, so one 100 g pack of Woody Oud covers the matrix with room for a re-pour. Score each candle for time to a full pool, throw at 15 and 30 minutes in a closed small room, soot and glass heat. Burn on a heat-proof surface and never unattended.

How to score throw fairly

Throw is judged by noses, and noses adapt. Use a small closed room, light one candle at a time, and have someone who has not been in the room walk in at the 15- and 30-minute marks and score it on a simple 1–5 scale. Air the room between candles. Label the candles by cell letter only, so the scorer does not know which wax or load they are smelling. Two or three scorers give a fairer answer than one, and the maker is usually the least reliable judge, having smelled the oil all day.

Lever four: cure, and the box-opening moment

Woody and oud-led oils often need patience. The Woody Oud page states a soy cure of 48–72 hours, and that is the stated minimum before burn testing. Score your matrix at that point, then again at a week and two weeks (suggested starting points). If throw improves with time, build that cure into your delivery schedule rather than raising the load.

Corporate gifts also have a cold-throw moment: the recipient lifts the lid. Fragrance builds in the headspace of a closed jar, so a lid helps. The 120 g shiny jar with lid is one CSI option if you want a closed vessel; for open jars, the box does that job, and the box is your own figure.

Strong cold, weak hot. The pool may be too small or forming too slowly. Test C2 before adding oil, and recheck after a longer cure.
Oil weeping on the surface. The load is too high for the wax or the oil was not stirred in fully. Return to 7% and stir thoroughly.
Flame large, glass hot. Wick is oversized for the jar. Drop to C1; the gain in throw is not worth an overheated gift.

Costed example and the order

Assume a 50 g weighed fill in Mini Glass Jars (₹2,124.00 ÷ 100 = ₹21.24 each; weigh your own) with Eco C1 at ₹5.90. In CSI 464 at 9%: wax 45.5 g × ₹0.5074 (₹5,074.00 ÷ 10,000 g) = ₹23.09; oil 4.5 g × ₹4.5312 = ₹20.39; total ₹23.09 + ₹20.39 + ₹21.24 + ₹5.90 = ₹70.62. In CSI 468 at 9% the wax becomes 45.5 g × ₹0.637 (₹6,370.00 ÷ 10,000 g) = ₹28.98, so the total is ₹28.98 + ₹20.39 + ₹21.24 + ₹5.90 = ₹76.51. All figures exclude packaging, labour, shipping and GST.

Stage Item Cost
Test Woody Oud 100 g ₹453.12
Test CSI 464 500 g + CSI 468 500 g ₹260.00 + ₹325.00 = ₹585.00
Test Eco C1 20 + Eco C2 10 ₹118.00 + ₹94.40 = ₹212.40
Production Woody Oud: 300 × 4.5 g = 1.35 kg 1 kg + 500 g = ₹4,531.20 + ₹2,265.60 = ₹6,796.80
Production (if 464 wins) Wax: 300 × 45.5 g = 13.65 kg 10 kg + 4 × 1 kg = ₹5,074.00 + ₹2,029.60 = ₹7,103.60
Production (if 468 wins) Wax: 13.65 kg 10 kg + 5 kg = ₹6,370.00 + ₹3,185.00 = ₹9,555.00

The test stage totals ₹453.12 + ₹585.00 + ₹212.40 = ₹1,250.52, plus your test jars. Buy only the wax that wins; there is no reason to stock both.

Argue against interest
Our dearer wax may not be the answer for a mini.
CSI 468 costs ₹6,370.00 per 10 kg against ₹5,074.00 for CSI 464. If your 50 g test shows no throw difference, buy the cheaper wax and spend the saving on the oil.
A small candle cannot have a big pool, so it needs a good oil and a patient cure.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials and production equipment, not finished candles. This guide separates general candle-making practice from what CSI's own product pages state, says plainly where CSI publishes no figure (wick sizes, burn times, hardness), and labels every wick, load, test count or margin as a starting point for your own validation.

Prices are live CSI prices from October 2026; product pages are authoritative. Where a spec is not published — such as a wick size for your jar, a mould's cycle life or a wax's survival temperature — this guide says so rather than filling the gap.

Frequently asked questions

how to make small candles smell stronger
Choose an oil that performs in wax, test the load near the top of its stated range, use the smallest wick that builds a full pool quickly, and cure for at least the page's stated time before judging. Retest after a week.
what is the best fragrance load for a 50g candle
Test 7% and 9% of total weight. Check the oil page: on a 6–10% wax-weight range, 9% of total is 9.89% of wax and stays inside, while 10% of total would exceed it.
is coconut soy wax better for hot throw in mini candles
It may or may not be in your jar. CSI 468 accepts up to 13% per its page, but the oil page still caps the load. Test it against CSI 464 and buy whichever wins.
how much fragrance oil for 300 mini candles
At 9% of a 50 g candle, 4.5 g each, so 300 × 4.5 g = 1.35 kg. For Woody Oud that is a 1 kg and a 500 g pack, ₹6,796.80 in total.
how long should mini candles cure before gifting
At least the oil page's stated minimum, 48–72 hours for Woody Oud in soy. Score throw again at a week and two weeks; if it improves, build that cure into your delivery schedule.
can a mini candle scent a whole office
Honestly, no. A 50 g candle's small melt pool suits a desk, cabin or bedside. Tell the corporate client this before ordering, so expectations match what the format can deliver.
