I Want to Store 100 Kg of Soy Wax Through an Indian Summer — What Storage Conditions Should I Confirm Before Purchasing That Quantity?
शेयर करना
What does CSI say about storing soy wax? CSI's product pages state 60 months in cool, dry storage for CSI 464 and CSI 468. Nothing is published for Natural Soy Pearl, Chunks or the others.
Is 100 kg cheaper per kilo? Not on CSI's listed packs. CSI 468 is ₹637.00 a kilo at 5 kg and 10 kg; Natural Soy Pearl ₹424.80 at 5, 10 and 50 kg. Buying at once buys security, not a lower rate.
How do I test my storeroom? A sentinel bag in the warmest usable spot and a twin in the coolest, poured side by side after the warm weeks. Kit: ₹2,871.60. See the priced kit.
Confirm seven things about the room — and one about the price — before 100 kg arrives
The question is the right one to ask before buying, not after. Storage problems with a large wax order rarely announce themselves: the bags look the same from outside, and the first sign is a batch that behaves oddly in July. So before committing to 100 kg through an Indian summer, confirm seven storage conditions — temperature at the actual storage spot, humidity and water, sunlight and roof heat, stacking and compression, separation from odours, floor space and access, and a release routine — and confirm them with readings, not impressions.
And confirm one more thing that is not about the room: whether buying 100 kg at once saves you anything. On CSI's listed packs, the per-kilo price of container soy wax does not fall beyond 5 kg — CSI 468 is ₹637.00 a kilo in 5 kg and 10 kg bags alike, and Natural Soy Pearl ₹424.80 in 5, 10 and 50 kg bags. So 100 kg at once buys stock security and fewer orders, not a lower rate. If the room cannot hold summer wax safely, buying in tranches costs you nothing in price.
What CSI publishes about storage is short. CSI's product page states a shelf life of 60 months in cool, dry storage for Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 and Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464. No shelf life or storage condition is published for Natural Soy Pearl Wax, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks or the other soy waxes. CSI publishes no ageing, heat-storage or lot-consistency data for any wax. Everything else here is general storage practice, labelled as such.
The seven storage conditions to confirm
Work through these in the room you will actually use. The "how to confirm" column is the evidence you collect; the right-hand column is what changes the purchase if the room fails.
| Condition | How to confirm it | Pass looks like (example) | If it fails |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 · Temperature at the storage spot | Min/max loggers at shelf height in each candidate spot, read daily for 2–4 summer weeks | Rack position clearly cooler than roof and wall spots, no sharp daily swings | Move the spot, or buy in tranches |
| 2 · Humidity and water | Hygrometer beside the stock; check floor and walls after rain | No damp floor or wall, no leaks, humidity not persistently high | Racks, liners, sealed bags; or buy later |
| 3 · Sunlight and roof heat | Note where sun falls through the day; feel the roof sheet at noon | Stock never in direct sun, not under the roof | Shade, move lower, inner room |
| 4 · Stacking and compression | Plan stack heights; check bottom bags after warm weeks | A working limit you set, e.g. 3 bags high | Lower stacks, more rack space |
| 5 · Separation from odours | List what else is in the room | No fragrance oils, solvents or cleaners beside the wax | Separate room or sealed cabinet |
| 6 · Space and access | Measure bags and floor; plan first-in, first-out | Every bag reachable without unstacking the rest | Fewer bags at a time |
| 7 · Release routine | Arrival reference candle, retained sample, one test candle per bag | Written and assigned to someone | Write it before ordering |
Most rooms pass some lines and fail others. A storeroom with a cool inner rack but a leaking corner is usable if the rack is used and the corner is not. A room where every spot gets hot in the afternoon is not a summer room for 100 kg, whatever the wax. Monsoon storage for festive wax covers the humid months, which arrive right after the summer this page is about.
Stacking 100 kg: weight, warmth and access
Flakes, pearls and chunks are free-flowing when cool. In warm storage, under the weight of bags above, they can pack together into lumps or a solid block — a general handling issue with many waxes, not a CSI measurement. A solid bag is not necessarily damaged, but it is slow to break, hard to weigh accurately and melts unevenly. Set a stack limit and plan floor space for it. With an example bag footprint of 0.50 × 0.35 m (measure your own) and an example working limit of 3 bags high, 10 bags need 4 stacks and about 0.70 m² of rack or pallet — plus room to reach the oldest bag first.
| Line | CSI 468 in 10 kg bags | Natural Soy Pearl in 10 kg bags | Natural Soy Pearl in 50 kg bags |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bags | 10 | 10 | 2 |
| Price | ₹63,700.00 | ₹42,480.00 | ₹42,480.00 |
| Per kg | ₹637.00 | ₹424.80 | ₹424.80 |
| Stacks at 3 high (example) | 4 | 4 | 2 (single bags) |
| Wax exposed when one bag is opened | 10 kg | 10 kg | 50 kg |
| Bags released by test candle | 10 | 10 | 2 |
The 50 kg bag is cheaper to handle in one sense — two bags instead of ten — and riskier in another: once opened, 50 kg sits in a resealed bag for two and a half months at the example consumption rate. Smaller bags keep the rest sealed. The price per kilo is identical (₹424.80), so the choice is purely about your room and your handling. One month of stock or more? and monthly, fortnightly or larger orders look at the ordering rhythm.
The sentinel-bag test: let one bag spend the summer first
Readings tell you how warm the room gets. They do not tell you whether that warmth changes the candles you pour. The sentinel test answers that directly, for the cost of two small bags per wax. Put one sealed bag in the warmest spot you would realistically use and its twin in the coolest, driest place you have. After the warm weeks, pour candles from both and compare.

The priced sentinel kit
Two sealed bags per wax, two 200 g candles from each at 8% (16 g oil + 184 g wax), 8 candles in all. Wax: CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026; oil: CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026; wicks and jars: verified 10 September 2026. Loggers and hygrometers are non-CSI items bought locally.
| Item | Need | Buy | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 | 2 sealed bags | 2 × 500 g | ₹650.00 |
| Natural Soy Pearl Wax | 2 sealed bags | 2 × 1 kg | ₹900.00 |
| British Rose Fragrance Oil | 134.4 g | 1 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g | ₹554.60 |
| Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 | 8 + 2 spare | 1 × 10 | ₹59.00 |
| White Matte Glass Jar | 8 jars | 2 packs of 5 | ₹708.00 |
| Kit total | ₹2,871.60 |
Each 500 g bag of CSI 468 makes two test candles and leaves 132 g as a retained sample; each 1 kg bag of Natural Soy Pearl leaves 632 g. Keep those leftovers sealed and labelled — they become the reference for the first production bags. British Rose is one of the oils with a genuine per-gram step from 100 g (₹3.42) to 500 g (₹3.19) and 1 kg (₹3.07), which matters later for production, not for this test.

100 kg at once or in tranches? The price says tranches cost nothing
At an example consumption of 20 kg a month (replace with yours), 100 kg lasts 5 months and makes about 543 candles of 200 g at 8% — 109 a month. Because CSI's listed per-kilo price is flat beyond 5 kg for both candidates, the only financial difference between buying 100 kg now and 20 kg a month is the cash you hold in the storeroom.
| Line | CSI 468 | Natural Soy Pearl | How it is worked |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100 kg at once | ₹63,700.00 | ₹42,480.00 | 10 × 10 kg (Soy Pearl also as 2 × 50 kg, same price) |
| 20 kg a month | ₹12,740.00 a month | ₹8,496.00 a month | 2 × 10 kg each month — same per-kilo rate |
| Price saving from buying 100 kg at once | ₹0.00 | ₹0.00 | Per-kilo rate identical at 5 kg and above |
| Extra average stock held | 40 kg | 40 kg | (100 − 20) ÷ 2 |
| Example cost of that cash at 12% a year for 5 months | ₹1,274.00 | ₹849.60 | Extra average stock × ₹/kg × rate × months ÷ 12 |
So the 100 kg order has to earn its keep in other ways: protection against a stock-out in your busiest months, fewer orders and deliveries, one wax order date to track instead of five. Those are real benefits — a stock-out in festive season can cost far more than the example holding cost. But if your room fails the checklist, those benefits come with a storage risk you do not need to take. When a 100 kg MOQ is worth it and 25 kg today or 100 kg at a discount cover suppliers who do offer a bulk price.
The decision rule
| Room result | Sentinel result | Decision | Order |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rack spot cool and dry; all seven lines pass | W matches C | Buy 100 kg | 10 × 10 kg; release each bag with a test candle |
| Rack spot passes, overflow spots do not | W differs from C | Buy what the rack holds | Tranches sized to the good space |
| Room hot or damp everywhere | W differs from C | Do not store 100 kg through summer | Monthly orders until the room is fixed |
| No logging done yet | — | Not yet | One month's wax now; log and test before the big order |
Whatever you decide, release every bag. One test candle per 10 kg bag costs about ₹244.88 in materials (CSI 468 at the 10 kg rate, British Rose at 500 g, wick and jar) — ₹2,448.80 for all ten — against a 10 kg bag that would otherwise go straight into a production run. Incoming QC on a delivery that behaves differently and keeping retained samples build the routine.
The storage routine for the whole 100 kg
| When | What | Record |
|---|---|---|
| On arrival | Check bags for damage and damp; label wax, order date and bag number; pour an arrival reference candle; keep a 200–300 g retained sample | Delivery record |
| Daily | Read and reset min/max and humidity at the rack | Storeroom log |
| Weekly | Check bottom bags for lumps and floor for damp; confirm stack limit | Storeroom log |
| Before opening a bag | Pour one test candle; compare with the arrival reference | Release sheet |
| After opening | Reseal tightly; clean scoop per wax; oldest bag first | Open date on the bag |
| End of summer | Compare the last bag's release candle with the first | Season summary |
The end-of-summer comparison is the one that pays for next year. If the last bag poured like the first, your room and routine work for 100 kg; if not, you know before you buy again. The full qualification protocol treats warehouse storage as one of the four stages every approved wax must pass.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. A 100 kg order is a good sale for us, and we still point out that our listed per-kilo price is the same at 10 kg as at 100 kg. CSI publishes no ageing, heat-storage or lot-consistency data; the only storage statements are the 60-month shelf lives on the CSI 464 and CSI 468 product pages.
Soy-wax prices are CSI live pricing re-checked on 1 October 2026; British Rose is CSI live pricing pulled 24 September 2026; wick and jar prices are those verified for Blog 760 on 10 September 2026. Pack rounding, per-kilo rates, floor area, holding cost and release costs are arithmetic shown to two decimals.
The storage risks are general practice. The bag footprint, stack limit, monthly consumption, holding-cost rate, logging period and pass rules are labelled examples you replace; loggers and hygrometers are non-CSI items.
