CSI Wick Buying · Cotton vs Wooden
CSI lists one wooden wick width, at several times the price of cotton per wick. So the first wooden order is a 10-pack for a fair head-to-head against the cotton wick you already trust, burned to the bottom of the jar.
₹684.40
wooden 10-pack + Eco C2 10-pack: three candles per arm with spares · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How do I test whether wooden wicks burn as reliably as cotton in my candles? Run a head-to-head in your own formula: three candles on Performance Wooden Wicks and three on the cotton wick you already trust, poured the same day from one pot, burned to about 1 cm left. Wooden passes only if all three match cotton on every check, every session, to the bottom of the jar.

What should I buy first? One wooden 10-pack (₹590.00, ₹59.00 a wick) and, if you need cotton controls, an Eco C2 10-pack (₹94.40). That is ₹684.40 of wicks. In our worked example (CSI's 150 g Clear Glass Jar, 8% Palo Santo, CSI 464) the whole test costs ₹2,737.60 from nothing.

Why not buy the 50-pack, it says "Save 25%"? It saves 20% per wick, not 25%, and only once you use the wicks. Before full life, 47 of the 50 are untested stock (₹2,218.40). Buy the 10-pack; the 50 and 100 are for after approval.

Is there a thicker wooden wick if mine is too small? Not at CSI. There is one Performance Wooden Wicks listing with no widths, so you cannot ladder wooden wick sizes the way you can step C1 → C2 → Cotton Braided. If one wooden wick fails, your options are free fixes, a load step, two wooden wicks or cotton; ask us on WhatsApp about other widths.
The short answer
Cost: one wooden wick is ₹59.00 in the 10-pack, ₹47.20 in the 50 and ₹41.30 in the 100, against ₹5.90 for Eco C1, ₹9.44 for Eco C2 and ₹12.00 for Cotton Braided. Even at the 100-pack, wooden is 4.37 times an Eco C2.
Buy: wooden 10-pack ₹590.00 + Eco C2 10-pack ₹94.40 (skip the C2 if you own your approved cotton wick). Three candles per arm, 7 wooden wicks left for a re-pour.
Approve: screen at burn 3; approve only when all three wooden candles match the cotton control at every session through the full life. "Reliable" means no relights, no self-extinguishing, a full pool on the same schedule, and no late-life heat or soot.
The honest limit: CSI lists one wooden wick width. If it doesn't suit your jar, we cannot sell you the next size up.
What the wick costs per candle: cotton vs wooden, one axis CSI live prices, 1 October 2026. Flat per wick for Eco C1, C2 and Cotton Braided; wooden steps down by pack. Drawn to scale: 4.2 px per rupee. Open dots = cotton (tabbed), filled dots = Performance Wooden Wicks. 0 20 40 60 80 100 120 rupees per candle 12 g Palo Santo = ₹72.22 1 × Eco C1 ₹5.90 1 × Eco C2 ₹9.44 2 × Eco C1 ₹11.80 1 × Cotton Braided ₹12.00 3 × Eco C1 ₹17.70 2 × Eco C2 ₹18.88 3 × Eco C2 ₹28.32 1 wooden · 100-pack ₹41.30 1 wooden · 50-pack ₹47.20 1 wooden · 10-pack ₹59.00 2 wooden · 100-pack ₹82.60 2 wooden · 50-pack ₹94.40 2 wooden · 10-pack ₹118.00 Read it this way Every cotton option, even three Eco C2 (₹28.32), costs less than ONE wooden wick at the best pack price (₹41.30). One wooden wick from the 10-pack (₹59.00) is 20.0% of a 150 g Palo Santo candle with its jar; Eco C2 is 3.8%. Bigger wooden packs do cut the unit price; bigger cotton packs do not. Neither makes an untested wick the right one. Wick money only. Excludes labour, freight, packaging and GST. Worked example; CSI publishes no wick-performance data.
Wick money per candle for thirteen configurations, drawn on one rupee axis at CSI live prices on 1 October 2026. All seven cotton builds, up to three Eco C2 in one jar (₹28.32), sit left of a single wooden wick at its best pack price (₹41.30). The dashed line is the 12 g of Palo Santo in a 150 g candle (₹72.22): one wooden wick from the 10-pack costs almost as much as the fragrance, and two cost more. That is why the first wooden order is a 10-pack, not a production pack.
Straight answer
I want wooden wicks in my soy candles for the look. How do I test whether they burn as reliably as the cotton wicks in my formula?
Don't switch; run a head-to-head. Keep everything in your formula fixed (jar, wax, oil, load, fill, cure, room) and change only the wick: three candles on Performance Wooden Wicks and three on your approved cotton wick, poured the same day from one pot. Burn them side by side in 3–4 hour sessions and log the same things on every candle. Wooden earns a place in production only when all three wooden candles match the cotton control at every session down to about 1 cm left: no relights, no self-extinguishing, a full pool on the same schedule, and no late-life heat or soot. Buy for it the way you would buy any unproven wick: one wooden 10-pack (₹590.00) and, if you need them, ten cotton controls (Eco C2, ₹94.40). Wooden is the one CSI wick that costs far more per wick (₹59.00 against ₹9.44 for C2) and the one with no second size, so a small, clean test is the cheapest way to find out whether the look is worth it in your jar.
One line: ₹684.40 of wicks buys a fair fight; a 50-pack before the fight buys ₹2,218.40 of hope.
The whole wick order: Performance Wooden Wicks, pack of 10 (₹590.00) and Eco C2, pack of 10 (₹94.40). Both in stock on 1 October 2026. Nothing bigger until three wooden candles pass the full life.
Wooden wicks — ₹590.00 for 10

The first wooden-wick order, line by line

Six candles, one variable. The wooden wick has to beat your own cotton, not a brochure.

The worked example uses CSI's own 150 g Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid so every line can be priced: 150 g at 8% of total weight is 12 g of Palo Santo + 138 g of CSI 464. If your formula uses another jar, wax or oil, keep yours: the head-to-head only means something in the formula you actually sell. The cotton arm is your approved cotton wick; we price Eco C2 as the example.

Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram) 6 Pack of 10 ₹944.00 ₹94.40 4
Cash from nothing all six lines ₹2,737.60 — —

Of that ₹2,737.60, the six candles consume ₹1,625.14 in materials, jars included; the rest is leftovers you will use (four jars, 172 g of wax, 28 g of oil, seven of each wick). If you already own your cotton wick, the cash is ₹2,643.20. Notice where the money sits: the wooden arm's three candles cost ₹886.91 in materials against ₹738.23 for the cotton arm. The whole difference is the wick.

Don't buy the 50-pack yet: the label says "Save 25%"; the arithmetic says 20% (₹47.20 against ₹59.00). Bought for a three-candle test, it leaves 47 wooden wicks worth ₹2,218.40 on your shelf before you know whether wooden suits your jar, and CSI has no second wooden width to use them on if it doesn't. Argued against our own interest: we sell the 50 and the 100. For this test, the 10 is the right pack. When the bigger packs start paying for themselves is the wooden bulk-gate post.
Use your own cotton lot for the control
If your cotton wick is already approved, pour the control from the same lot you produce with, not from a fresh pack. A control is only a control if it is the wick that earned your approval. If you don't have an approved cotton wick yet, you are not ready for a head-to-head: approve cotton first (what to record when cotton and wooden share a jar assumes you have).

Wooden vs cotton: rupees per wick and per candle

Cotton gets no cheaper in bulk at CSI. Wooden does, and still never gets close.

Per wick, CSI's Eco C1, Eco C2 and Cotton Braided are flat at every pack size. Performance Wooden Wicks are the exception among tabbed wicks: the 50-pack and 100-pack really are cheaper per wick (the cut-to-length braided rolls are also cheaper per metre in the bigger roll, but they are not sold as finished wicks). Here is every per-wick figure on one table.

Per wick · every pack · CSI live pricing, 1 October 2026
Price ÷ wicks in the pack, two decimals · multiples declared · C1 10-pack out of stock
Wick Smallest pack Per wick Largest pack Per wick Wooden 10-pack is… Wooden 100-pack is…

Per candle, what matters is how many wicks a configuration uses. The table below covers every configuration this cluster discusses. The single-wick rows also show the full material cost of the worked-example candle (12 g Palo Santo ₹72.22 + 138 g CSI 464 ₹70.02 + jar ₹94.40); the multi-wick rows belong to wider jars than the 150 g, so they show wick money only.

2 wooden, 10 / 50 / 100-pack ₹118.00 / ₹94.40 / ₹82.60 wide jar — the 9 cm three-arm order

Three readings. First, the wick is a rounding error in a cotton candle (3.8% for C2) and a real line in a wooden one (20.0% at the 10-pack, 14.9% at the 100). Second, moving from Eco C2 to wooden adds ₹49.56 per candle at the 10-pack and still ₹31.86 at the 100-pack; that is ₹4,130.00 against ₹944.00 per 100 candles. Third, the comparison that matters commercially is not wooden vs C2 but wooden vs whatever cotton your jar needs: against Cotton Braided, the 100-pack wooden wick adds ₹29.30 a candle. Whether the look earns that back on price is the commercial trade-off post; this page only makes sure you know the number before you test.

One wooden width: what that does to your test plan

With cotton you buy a ladder. With CSI's wooden wick you buy a yes-or-no.

A cotton test at CSI can bracket: C1 → C2 → Cotton Braided, then pairs, and the rung that fails on each side tells you where the answer is. Performance Wooden Wicks are one listing with no width, thickness or length stated in the text we captured. So a wooden test cannot bracket on size. It answers one question: in this jar, wax, oil and load, does this one wooden wick burn as reliably as my cotton? If the answer is no, the next variables are not "a wider wooden wick" but the levers that sit around the wick.

If the single wooden wick fails · what you can change, and what it costs
Ordered from free to dearest · per-candle wick ₹ declared · the deep dive for each sits in a sibling post
Lever What it tests Extra purchase Wick ₹ per candle Owned by
Trim routine, exposed wick height, session length Whether "unreliable" was handling, not the wick none (a cutter if you have nothing) ₹59.00 the going-out post
A load step down (8% → 7% → 6%) Whether the oil load is starving the flame none; the 10-pack covers nine candles ₹59.00 the load-step post
Two wooden wicks per candle Whether one strip is simply too small for the pool a second 10-pack for three candles plus spares ₹118.00 5562, 5569
A wider wooden wick Size, the way cotton ladders do not sold by CSI: ask on WhatsApp — —
Stay with cotton Nothing: you already know it works none ₹9.44 the two-system inventory post

Why do wooden wicks behave differently at all? As commonly described, a wooden wick is a flat strip that draws melted wax less readily than a braided cotton wick, so it tends to be more sensitive to pool depth, exposed height and trimming; self-extinguishing as the pool deepens is a commonly reported failure, and crackle depends on how the wick burns. These are tendencies, not CSI data, and they are why a wooden wick that is perfect on burn 1 can still fail at burn 6. What changes as the pool deepens is the wooden-wick extinguishing post; a wooden requalification when two cotton wicks already work in a 9 cm jar is the 9 cm wooden requalification post.

Your oil matters too. Ten CSI oil pages name wooden wicks as an option in the text we captured: Palo Santo, Sage and Cedarwood, Eucalyptus Spearmint, Vetiver, Gardenia, Verbena, Ylang Ylang Flower, Cinnamon, Vanilla Bean and Neroli. None of them states a wooden-wick size, and "wooden wicks for an even, clean burn" is page wording, not a test result. A wooden wick that suits Palo Santo is approved for Palo Santo; a heavier or vanillin-rich oil can behave differently on the same wick (a tendency). Whether a cotton → wooden move means retesting the load as well is the cotton → wooden system retest.

Mistake: treating a failed wooden wick as "needs the next size" and buying another brand's wider wick online. Why it fails: a different supplier's wick is a different wick, not a size step; you are back to a new test with no bracket. Fix: work through the levers above in order, and if you need a width CSI doesn't list, ask us first: argued against our own interest, we would rather tell you we don't stock it than sell you a 50-pack of the wrong one.

Running the head-to-head

If the two arms differ in anything but the wick, the test measures the difference, not the wick.
1
Fix the formula in writingJar and batch, wax and bag, oil and load (12 g + 138 g for a 150 g candle at 8%), fill line, pour temperature, cure time, burn room. Measure three jars inside at rim, middle and base (external versus internal diameter).
2
Assemble the wooden wicks before pour dayThe pack includes wick tabs. Seat each strip fully in its tab, stand it straight, and check its height against your fill line. A tilted or loose wooden wick fails for reasons that have nothing to do with wood.
3
Pour all six from one pot828 g of CSI 464 and 72 g of Palo Santo, mixed once. In the 150 g jar, pour CSI 464 at 80–85°C (the jar page's "up to 85°C" governs within the wax's 80–90°C). Label the bases W-a, W-b, W-c and C-a, C-b, C-c.
4
Cure them togetherThe Palo Santo page says "Cure Time: 48–72 hours for soy wax"; many makers wait about a week before judging. Same shelf, same days.
5
Burn in pairs, in still airOne wooden next to one cotton, 3–4 hour sessions (about 2.5 hours to the edge of a 6.3 cm pool on the very rough one-hour-per-2.5 cm rule of thumb), no fan or AC vent, full cool-down between sessions, always within sight. Trim each wick type the way its maker or your routine says, and write the routine down.
6
Log the same fields on every candleTime to full pool, pool depth, flame height at 1, 2 and 3 hours, relights needed, self-extinguishing, soot on the glass, crackle (yes/no, not a score), and in the final third how close the flame sits to the glass, judged by eye, never by touch. Which fields turn into a buying decision is the record-to-buy scoresheet; how to compare two wicks beyond pool diameter is the supplier comparison record.
Why three per arm, not one
A wooden wick can go out because of a bad tab seat or a draught, and a cotton one can tunnel from an off-centre pour. Three per arm lets one odd candle be outvoted, and it is the number the 10-pack covers with a re-pour to spare. Three is also the minimum this series uses before any production order (the three-candle rule).

What "as reliable as cotton" has to mean

A wooden wick that crackles beautifully and needs relighting twice a jar is not reliable. It is decorative.

Write the rule before you light anything, so the look cannot talk you into a pass. The thresholds are our judgement; flame height and pool depth benchmarks are commonly cited rules of thumb (about 2.5–5 cm flame, about 0.5–1 cm pool), not CSI data.

Approval rule · wooden vs cotton · 3 + 3 candles (our judgement, labelled)
Gate 1 at burn 3 screens · Gate 2 at about 1 cm left approves · only Gate 2 releases a production purchase
Check Wooden must If it fails Purchase consequence
Stays lit No relights and no self-extinguishing, all 3 candles, every session Free levers first, then load step (5562, 5563) Nothing more than the 10-pack
Pool schedule Full pool by the same session as the cotton control Two wooden wicks, or cotton A second 10-pack only for a two-wick arm
Flame Steady within your standard; crackle is a feature, flicker and surging are not Check draughts, trim, tab seat; then spread within the pack Spread check before any bulk (the crackle and bulk-gate post)
Soot and heat No more glass soot than cotton; flame never close to the glass in the final third Configuration, not a bigger wooden wick Nothing
Spread between the three No wider than the cotton arm's spread Wooden is less repeatable in your formula A higher allowance if you go ahead (the repeatability allowance post)
Gate 2: full life All three to about 1 cm left, every check passed — Approved: size the order (next section)

Two sharp edges. If the cotton control also misbehaves (a ring at burn 3, soot), your formula needs work before any wick comparison means anything. And if wooden passes everything except one candle's single relight, that is not a pass with a footnote: re-pour three more wooden candles from the seven spare wicks and burn them through. How far down a candle has to go before it counts is the acceptance-depth post.

Mistake: approving wooden at burn 3 because it crackles and the pool reached the glass. Why it fails: self-extinguishing in wooden wicks is commonly reported as the pool deepens, which is exactly what burns 1–3 don't show. Fix: Gate 1 only decides which candles keep burning; Gate 2 decides what you buy.

After a pass: sizing the wooden order

A pass tells you wooden works. The formula tells you how many to buy, and the packs tell you how much it hurts.

Once three wooden candles pass Gate 2, size the order the same way as any wick: wicks to buy = candles × wicks per candle × (1 + allowance). Wooden deserves a bigger allowance than cotton until your own production shows otherwise: assembly failures, a strip that cracks in the tab, a candle that won't stay lit. In the worked example below the allowances are labelled judgement (10% wooden, 5% cotton); replace them with your own reject rate.

Production exposure · worked example: 100 candles a month, one wick per candle
Wooden at 10% allowance, cotton at 5% (labelled) · packs that cover the count · all figures declared
Wick Wicks a month Packs Cash a month Note
Performance Wooden Wicks 110 100 + 10 ₹4,720.00 the 100-pack's real discount applies to 100 of them
Performance Wooden Wicks 110 50 + 50 + 10 ₹5,310.00 the same count, dearer: the 100-pack beats two 50s
Eco C2 (cotton) 105 100 + 10 (5 spare) ₹1,038.40 flat per wick: pack choice changes cash, not unit cost
Wooden minus cotton — — ₹3,681.60 a month ₹44,179.20 over twelve months

That gap is the price of the look in wick money alone, before any change in oil load or labour. Reorder on the usual rule (daily use × your lead time + safety stock; CSI publishes no lead times or stock depth, so confirm dispatch on WhatsApp), but hold wooden safety stock leaner than cotton: it is dearer per wick, and it is the wick most exposed to "we changed our mind". When the 50- and 100-packs earn their discount, and how to check spread within one pack before trusting it, is the bulk-gate post. Moving a whole collection is the collection-switch post.

Don't jump to the 100-pack on approval day either: at 110 a month it is under a month of stock, which is fine, but only for the jar, wax, oil and load you approved. A second fragrance on the same wooden wick is a new approval (wick results do not transfer between oils), so buy for the approved line only. Argued against our own interest: if your volume is ten candles a month, the 10-pack at ₹59.00 may stay your cheapest real option for a long time, because unused discounted wicks are not cheap.
Diwali is 8 November 2026, 38 days from 1 October 2026. A head-to-head poured this week can pass Gate 1 by mid-October; Gate 2 takes the weeks after. If you need wooden-wick candles for Diwali and the full life won't finish in time, sell cotton this season and launch wooden after it passes. When it does, send us the approved formula and candle count for a quote with GST invoice and dispatch date.

Six products for the head-to-head

In the order the test uses them, chosen on page statements, price and stock on 1 October 2026. CSI publishes no wick-performance data, so nothing is ranked on burn results, and there is no CSI customer review of the wooden wicks to quote. Oil candle counts use 12 g per 150 g candle at 8%.

wick · the challenger
Performance Wooden Wicks | Imported
The only wooden wick CSI lists, and the whole reason for this page. The page says wooden wicks "are made from thin strips of wood", that they "burn with a gentle crackling sound", and that "One Pack contains 10 wicks and wick tabs". It also says they "tend to burn more cleanly than cotton wicks, with less smoke and soot" and "can burn for longer than cotton wicks": those are the page's claims, and your head-to-head is how you check them in your own jar. In the text we captured there is no width, thickness, length or jar range, and there is one listing, so there is no wider or narrower wooden wick to step to. Argued against our own interest: buy the 10-pack. The 50 is 20% cheaper per wick (not the 25% on its label) and only worth it once three candles have passed full life.

fragrance oil · woody resinous · the formula in the worked example
Palo Santo Fragrance Oil
A woody oil for a woody-looking wick. Notes: "Earthy palo santo with soft citrus, warm amber, and a touch of incense". The page states "Recommended Fragrance Load: Up to 10% for soy wax", so 8% sits inside both its ceiling and CSI 464's "Fragrance Load Up to 10%". It is one of ten CSI oil pages whose captured text names wooden wicks; Palo Santo's reads "Eco wicks or wooden wicks for an even, clean burn. Wick testing is recommended based on your container and wax type." It lists "Vanillin Content: 0% (No risk of discoloration)" (a page claim; test anyway) and "Cure Time: 48–72 hours for soy wax". Every size is in stock. Honest price note: it is ₹6.02 a gram from 50 g to 1 kg, so the 1 kg saves nothing per gram over the 100 g.
Size Price Per gram 150 g candles at 8% (12 g) 150 g candles (standard)
15 g ₹106.20 ₹7.08 1 1
50 g ₹300.90 ₹6.02 4 4
100 g ₹601.80 ₹6.02 8 8
500 g ₹3,009.00 ₹6.02 41 41
1 kg ₹6,018.00 ₹6.02 83 83
Six test candles use 72 g; the 100 g bottle leaves 28 g. Buy 100 g — ₹601.80

jar · CSI's own 7 cm vessel
Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram)
The worked example's jar, chosen because it is a jar CSI actually lists, so nobody has to guess the vessel. The page states "150g fill capacity", "Height 8cm, outer diameter 7cm" and "Safe for hot pour up to 85°C". CSI 464's stated pour is 80–90°C, so pour at 80–85°C in this jar: the lower figure governs. It is described as thick-walled; on our labelled 0.35 cm wall it is about 6.3 cm inside (31.17 cm²); measure yours. Limitation: no listing states an internal diameter, and a thicker wall than we assume means a smaller pool.

wax · the soy both arms are poured in
Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (Flakes Form) For Container Candles
The wax in the worked example: "Fragrance Load Up to 10%", "Pour Temperature 80°C – 90°C". Both arms come from one melted pot, so the only difference between candles is the wick. If you pour another wax, run the head-to-head in that wax; a wooden-wick result does not transfer between waxes. Price is flat per gram from 1 kg to 10 kg.

tool · trimming between sessions
Candle Wick Cutter | Candle Wick Trimmer
Cotton and wooden wicks are trimmed differently, and inconsistent trimming is one of the commonly cited reasons a wooden wick looks unreliable when it is not. CSI lists three cutters. The ₹588.82 page carries the line "Trim your wick to 1/4 inch before every burn": a cotton-wick habit; wooden-wick trim routines are the wooden-wick depth post's subject. Argued against our own interest: sharp nail clippers do the same job on a test bench; buy a cutter when you sell candles that need a care card.
Tool Price Per unit Use here
Candle Wick Cutter (blade 3 cm) ₹177.00 ₹177.00 one tool for the whole test
Candle Wick Cutter (blade 5.5 cm) ₹295.00 ₹295.00 longer reach into a deep jar
Candle Wick Trimmer (debris catcher) ₹588.82 ₹588.82 the page with "Trim your wick to 1/4 inch"
One cutter serves every candle in the test. Buy — ₹177.00

Skip for this test: Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made (₹120.00 for 10): its page says "engineered for large-diameter candles exceeding 8 cm", far wider than the 150 g jar, so it belongs in wider-jar comparisons (5569, 5570). Steel Wick Holder (₹250.00 for 5): the page talks of inserting "wick(s) in the slots" and states no slot size, so check a wooden strip fits before relying on it.

Map of this cluster: 5561–5580

This hub owns the short answer for cotton vs wooden vs multi-wick: the head-to-head order, the per-wick and per-candle costs, and the approval rule. Each sibling owns one purchasing decision.

No. What the post answers (linked)
5562 Wooden wick keeps going out in 200 g: free fixes, a load step, two wooden wicks or cotton, costed side by side.
5563 Fine unscented, struggles at 8%: a 6/7/8% load-step order that one 10-pack covers.
5564 Crackle but an inconsistent flame: the bulk gate for the 50- and 100-packs, and a spread check within one pack.
5565 Luxury wooden-wick candle: what lower repeatability adds to the quantity you must buy.
5566 Cotton vs wooden in the same jar: the comparison-kit bill and a record-to-buy scoresheet.
5567 Cotton throws better, wooden looks premium: a commercial break-even table.
5568 Switching a whole collection to wooden: the retest budget and a phased switch.
5569 9 cm jar: one wooden, two wooden or two cotton as the first test order.
5570 Two identical small wicks vs one big centre wick: cost per finished candle.
5571 Two-wick spacing turned into a fixture purchase spec.
5572 Two wicks in 10 cm, overlap heat: a 2 × 2 order against testing one variable at a time.
5573 Three-wick 500 g: the triple ladder order, priced per arm.
5574 Three wicks, hot centre: the stocking cost of a mixed-size triple.
5575 Rectangular vessel: area per wick from length × width, then the buy list.
5576 Oval jar: one centre wick vs two on the long axis, both arms costed.
5577 Very wide, shallow container: wick rupees per 100 g of candle for 1, 2 and 3 wicks.
5578 Standardise on cotton or run two systems: the inventory cost of keeping wooden.
5579 Separate burn-test records for cotton and wooden, as a purchasing control.
5580 The capstone: a configuration chooser from 1 × C1 to 2 wooden, and the test order.
The CSI principle
Test the look against the wick you already trust.
One wooden 10-pack and three cotton controls answer the question for ₹684.40 in wicks. Wooden has one width at CSI and costs 6.25 times an Eco C2 per wick, so the evidence has to come before the stock.
"Wooden wicks sell the candle in the photo. Cotton wicks sell it again in the review. Make sure your wooden candle does both before you buy a hundred."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the wooden and cotton wicks, the oil, wax and jar named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page still tells you to buy our smallest wooden pack, that the 50-pack's "Save 25%" is really 20%, that we list one wooden width only, and that cotton may remain the better commercial choice.

Every price was verified on CSI's live store on 1 October 2026, with stock checked per size: the Eco C1 10-pack is out of stock on that date and is flagged wherever it appears; every other size shown is in stock. Product wording is quoted from the pages; where a page is silent in the text we captured, we say so. The wooden wick page's claims about clean burning and burn length are attributed to the page, not confirmed by us.

The head-to-head design, the approval thresholds, the 10% and 5% allowances, the 0.35 cm wall and the 100-candle month are our judgement or worked examples; melt-pool and flame figures are commonly cited rules of thumb; wooden-wick behaviour is described as tendency. CSI publishes no wick-performance data. For bulk pricing, GST invoicing, and MSDS and IFRA documentation on request, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Are wooden wicks better than cotton wicks for soy candles?
Not in general; it depends on your jar, wax, oil and load. Wooden wicks are commonly described as more sensitive to pool depth and trimming. The only answer that counts is a head-to-head in your formula: three wooden candles against three of your approved cotton wick, burned to about 1 cm left.
How many wooden wicks should I buy to test?
Three for the test candles, so one 10-pack (₹590.00). The seven spare cover a re-pour of three or a follow-up arm (a load step, or two wicks per candle in a wide jar). Don't buy the 50 or 100 until three candles pass the full life.
Why are wooden wicks so expensive compared with cotton?
At CSI on 1 October 2026, a wooden wick is ₹59.00 in the 10-pack, ₹47.20 in the 50 and ₹41.30 in the 100, against ₹9.44 for an Eco C2 at any pack. Even at the 100-pack price, wooden is 4.37 times an Eco C2 per wick.
Does CSI sell wooden wicks in different widths?
No. There is one Performance Wooden Wicks listing with no width options. If one wooden wick is too small for your jar, the options are a load step, two wooden wicks per candle or cotton. Ask on WhatsApp if you need a width we don't list.
Is the wooden wick 50-pack really 25% cheaper?
No: ₹47.20 a wick against ₹59.00 in the 10-pack is 20% cheaper. The 100-pack (₹41.30) is 30% cheaper, as labelled. Cotton packs (C1, C2, Cotton Braided) are flat per wick, so bigger cotton packs save nothing per wick.
Can I keep the same fragrance load when I switch from cotton to wooden wicks?
Test it rather than assume it. Start at the load your cotton candle uses (8% in our example), and if the wooden wick struggles where unscented wax burned fine, step the load down (7%, 6%) inside the oil's and wax's stated ceilings. The 10-pack covers that ladder too.
Your first wooden-wick order
Wooden 10-pack + three cotton controls: ₹684.40 for a fair head-to-head.
Pour three wooden and three cotton candles from one pot in your own formula, burn them side by side in 3–4 hour sessions, screen at burn 3 and approve only on the full life. Send us your jar, wax and oil on WhatsApp and we will check the order before you pay.

Non-price figures: load is a percentage of total candle weight (150 g at 8% = 12 g oil + 138 g wax). The 0.35 cm wall (6.3 cm inside, 31.17 cm² pool) is a labelled assumption; pool area = π r² on the inside radius. Ceilings are as the pages state (CSI 464 up to 10%, pour 80–90°C; Palo Santo up to 10% for soy; the 150 g jar "Safe for hot pour up to 85°C"): formulation limits, not regulatory ones. Melt-pool times, depth and flame height are commonly cited rules of thumb. The cotton control (Eco C2), the approval thresholds, the 10% and 5% allowances and the 100-candle month are editorial judgement and worked examples. Wooden-wick behaviour (sensitivity to pool depth and trimming, self-extinguishing) is stated as commonly reported tendency. The count of ten oil pages naming wooden wicks is from the captured page text. Costs exclude labour, freight, packaging and GST. Diwali 8 November 2026 is a calendar fact.
