Price per kg vs real cost · COGS
₹10,000 on a 100 kg wax order is real money. Spread over the 522 candles it makes, it is ₹19.16 each. Here are all three gaps in full, by candle size and by month — and the real gaps in CSI's price list.
₹19.16
per 200 g candle for a ₹100 a kilo gap on 100 kg · 8% load, 4% allowance · 7.2% of example COGS
Quick answers — read this first
What does ₹20, ₹50 or ₹100 a kg mean on 100 kg? ₹2,000.00, ₹5,000.00 or ₹10,000.00 on the order — ₹3.83, ₹9.58 or ₹19.16 per 200 g candle.

How much does that change COGS? 1.4%, 3.6% or 7.2% of a ₹266.90 example COGS.

Which candles feel it most? Large ones: ₹100 a kilo is ₹41.40 on a 450 g candle, ₹9.20 on 100 g.

Are these gaps real at CSI? Yes: Soy Pearl's 5 kg step is ₹25.20, CSI 464 vs Soy Pearl ₹82.60, CSI 464 vs CSI 468 ₹129.60. See the real gaps.
The short answer
Answer: Per candle = gap × wax grams ÷ 1,000 (÷ 1 − loss). For 200 g at 8%: ₹3.83, ₹9.58, ₹19.16.
Context: Oil and jar together cost ₹137.64 a candle here — more than six times the ₹100 gap.
Test: For gaps of ₹50 a kilo or more, run a side-by-side and price what the dearer wax delivers. Full cost formula.
₹20, ₹50 or ₹100 a kilo on 100 kg of wax 200 g candle at 8% (184 g wax) · 522 candles from 100 kg with a 4% allowance · base COGS ₹266.90 incl. example packaging ₹20 / kg ₹2,000.00 on 100 kg = ₹3.83 a candle · 1.4% of COGS · 0.5% of a ₹799 price ₹50 / kg ₹5,000.00 on 100 kg = ₹9.58 a candle · 3.6% of COGS · 1.2% of a ₹799 price ₹100 / kg ₹10,000.00 on 100 kg = ₹19.16 a candle · 7.2% of COGS · 2.4% of a ₹799 price For scale: CSI 464 vs CSI 468 at 10 kg is ₹129.60 a kilo — ₹12,960.00 on 100 kg, ₹24.83 a candle. The rupee total looks large; the per-candle figure is what your price and margin feel.
The same three gaps shown as an invoice total and as a cost per candle. A 200 g candle at 8% holds 184 g of wax; with a 4% allowance, 100 kg makes 522 candles. Base COGS uses CSI 464 at the 10 kg rate, Peach Melon Berry at 1 kg, an Eco Thin C1 wick, a White Matte jar and an example ₹30.00 of packaging.
Straight answer
I'm buying 100 kg of wax — how much difference does ₹20, ₹50 or ₹100 per kilogram make to my total candle COGS?
On the invoice, ₹2,000.00, ₹5,000.00 or ₹10,000.00. Per candle, far less. A 200 g candle at 8% holds 184 g of wax, so 100 kg makes 522 candles with a 4% pour and test allowance. The three gaps are ₹3.83, ₹9.58 and ₹19.16 per candle — 1.4%, 3.6% and 7.2% of a ₹266.90 example COGS (CSI 464 at the 10 kg rate, Peach Melon Berry, wick, White Matte jar and example packaging), or 0.5% to 2.4% of a ₹799 price. ₹20 a kilo rarely decides anything; ₹100 a kilo is worth a side-by-side test. The effect scales with candle size and volume: at 1,000 candles a month, ₹100 a kilo is ₹18,400.00 a month. These gaps exist in CSI's own list — CSI 464 vs CSI 468 is ₹129.60 a kilo, ₹12,960.00 on 100 kg.
One line: convert every per-kilo gap into rupees per candle before it decides anything.
CSI lists no 100 kg pack — container soy wax comes in bags up to 10 kg. As ten 10 kg bags, 100 kg of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is ₹50,740.00 (₹507.40 a kilo) and 100 kg of Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 is ₹63,700.00 (₹637.00 a kilo) — a real ₹129.60-a-kilo gap, bigger than your ₹100 case. Quotes above the listed packs on WhatsApp; no volume discount figure is published.

Less than it looks: ₹3.83, ₹9.58 or ₹19.16 a candle

₹10,000 on a wax order feels like a decision. ₹19 on a candle feels like a rounding error. They are the same money.

On 100 kg, a ₹20, ₹50 or ₹100 a kilo price difference is ₹2,000.00, ₹5,000.00 or ₹10,000.00 — real money on the invoice. But you do not sell kilos of wax; you sell candles. A 200 g candle at 8% contains 184 g of wax. With a 4% pour and test allowance (a working assumption), 100 kg makes 522 candles. Spread over those, the three gaps are ₹3.83, ₹9.58 and ₹19.16 per candle.

Against the full cost of goods for that candle — ₹93.36 of CSI 464 at the 10 kg rate, ₹66.84 of Peach Melon Berry Fragrance Oil, a ₹5.90 Eco Thin C1 wick, a ₹70.80 White Matte jar and an example ₹30.00 of packaging and label, ₹266.90 in all — the three gaps move COGS by 1.4%, 3.6% and 7.2%. On an example ₹799 selling price they are 0.5%, 1.2% and 2.4% of the price. So ₹20 a kilo rarely decides anything on its own; ₹100 a kilo is worth a proper test; ₹50 sits in between and depends on what else the waxes do differently.

The honest reading: the per-kilo gap matters in proportion to how much wax is in each candle and how many candles you make. It matters more for large candles than small ones, more at 1,000 candles a month than at 100, and more when your margin is thin. It matters less than most makers expect next to the fragrance and the jar, which together cost ₹137.64 a candle here — more than six times the ₹100 gap.

The CSI principle
Convert every per-kilo price gap into rupees per candle before you let it decide anything.
Gap per kg × wax grams per candle ÷ 1,000 — plus your loss allowance. For a 200 g candle at 8%, ₹100 a kilo is about ₹19.16.

The three gaps, worked in full

100 kg · 200 g candle at 8% · 522 candles with 4% allowance · base COGS ₹266.90 (CSI 464 at 10 kg, Peach Melon Berry at 1 kg, wick, jar, example ₹30.00 packaging) · CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026 and re-checked 1 October 2026
What ₹20, ₹50 and ₹100 a kilo do to COGS
Gap per kg On 100 kg Per candle, no allowance Per candle, 4% allowance Share of COGS Share of ₹799 price
₹20.00 / kg ₹2,000.00 ₹3.68 ₹3.83 1.4% 0.5%
₹50.00 / kg ₹5,000.00 ₹9.20 ₹9.58 3.6% 1.2%
₹100.00 / kg ₹10,000.00 ₹18.40 ₹19.16 7.2% 2.4%

The "no allowance" column is the pure arithmetic: gap × 184 g ÷ 1,000. The allowance column divides the whole 100 kg gap by the 522 candles you can actually make once pour loss and test candles are taken out — slightly higher, because every gram of lost wax was also paid for at the higher price. Use the allowance column for your costing; the true commercial cost formula carries the loss line explicitly.

Same three gaps across candle sizes · 8% load · 4% allowance for candle counts
Per-candle effect by candle size
Candle Wax per candle Candles from 100 kg ₹20 / kg ₹50 / kg ₹100 / kg
100 g 92 g 1,045 ₹1.84 ₹4.60 ₹9.20
200 g 184 g 522 ₹3.68 ₹9.20 ₹18.40
300 g 276 g 348 ₹5.52 ₹13.80 ₹27.60
450 g 414 g 232 ₹8.28 ₹20.70 ₹41.40

A 450 g candle carries ₹41.40 of a ₹100 gap; a 100 g candle ₹9.20. If your range is mostly small candles and tins, the wax price gap barely registers; if you sell large three-wick-style jars, it is worth chasing. How much of a ₹799 price the wax should take runs the same logic from the selling price downwards.

At 1,000 candles a month, 200 g at 8% · no allowance
The same gaps by the month and the year
Gap per kg Per month Per year
₹20.00 / kg ₹3,680.00 ₹44,160.00
₹50.00 / kg ₹9,200.00 ₹1,10,400.00
₹100.00 / kg ₹18,400.00 ₹2,20,800.00
Compare the wax gap with an oil-load change
At ₹4.18 a gram for Peach Melon Berry at 1 kg, the ₹50 a kilo gap (₹9.20 a candle) equals 2.20 g of oil — about 1.1 load points on a 200 g candle. If a dearer wax lets you run a lower load for the same throw in your own test, it can pay for itself through the oil line. Different fragrance capacities at optimal loads and more oil in the cheaper wax work that through.

The real per-kilo gaps in CSI's soy range

Your ₹20, ₹50 and ₹100 are not hypothetical. They are already in our price list.

Here are the gaps that actually exist between CSI's soy waxes and pack sizes, computed from the listed prices at production pack sizes, and what each does on 100 kg and per candle. None of them says one wax is better than another — CSI publishes no performance data that would. They tell you how big a difference in your own test results has to be before the dearer option pays.

Natural Soy Pearl vs CSI 468 ₹212.20 ₹21,220.00 ₹40.65 15.2%

Three are close to your three cases. Natural Soy Pearl's 1 kg → 5 kg step (₹25.20) is the ₹20 case — and it costs nothing to capture, because any order of 5 kg or more gets it. Chunks against CSI 468 (₹38.00) sits between ₹20 and ₹50. CSI 464 against Natural Soy Pearl (₹82.60) and Chunks against CSI 464 (₹91.60) are the ₹100 case. CSI 464 against CSI 468 (₹129.60) and Soy Pearl against CSI 468 (₹212.20) are larger than any of your three — on 100 kg those are ₹12,960.00 and ₹21,220.00, and around ₹25 to ₹41 a candle.

Treating a per-kilo gap as a quality signal. A dearer wax is not a better wax by default, and a cheaper one is not worse. The price reflects formulation, sourcing and format, not your candle's performance. Fix: convert the gap to rupees per candle, then run a side-by-side test to see whether the dearer wax delivers something worth that much in your jar, with your oil.

Is the dearer wax worth its gap? The side-by-side

The example pair is the biggest real container-wax gap in the table: CSI 464 at ₹507.40 a kilo against CSI 468 at ₹637.00 a kilo (10 kg rates) — ₹24.83 a candle. CSI 468's product page states a melting point of 50–53°C, pour at 58–60°C and fragrance load up to 13%; CSI 464's page states up to 10% and lists 80–90°C as its melt/pour working range. Neither is claimed better. Pour 4 candles of each with Peach Melon Berry Fragrance Oil at 8% (16 g oil + 184 g wax), Eco Thin C1 wicks and White Matte jars, and score them against each other with your current candle as the reference.

1
Write down what the gap must buyBefore pouring, write the per-candle gap (₹24.83) on the sheet and decide what would be worth that much to you: a clear throw improvement, fewer rejects, summer stability for shipping, a lower load. If you cannot name it, the cheaper wax wins by default.
2
Pour 4 + 4 on one dayThree of each for burning, one of each for the shelf. Follow each page's temperatures: CSI 468 pour 58–60°C; CSI 464's page range of 80–90°C. Weigh and label every base.
3
Cure identicallySame checkpoint, same shelf. Cure time is a cost in its own right if one wax is ready sooner.
4
Burn in matched pairs3–4 hour cycles (commonly used, labelled), same room. One of each to the end of life.
5
Score throw blind; store the shelf candlesHot throw at 1 m and at the door; cold throw lid-off. Shelf candles in your warmest storage spot, checked weekly.
6
Price the difference you foundIf the dearer wax let you drop the load, price the oil saved. If it removed rejects, price them. If it threw better, decide whether customers would pay more. Compare the total with the gap.

Gap per kg Per 200 g candle Rule What you buy

≈ ₹50 ₹9.58 Decide on test results and your margin The wax that wins your side-by-side
≈ ₹100 or more ₹19.16+ Dearer wax must prove its worth in ₹ per candle CSI 464 by default (₹50,740.00 for 100 kg); CSI 468 (₹63,700.00) only if the sheet says so

For the reader buying 100 kg, the concrete purchase is: run the ₹2,565.14 kit first if the two waxes you are choosing between differ by ₹50 a kilo or more. If you are choosing between CSI 464 and CSI 468 and the sheet does not show at least ₹24.83 of value per candle, buy CSI 464 as ten 10 kg bags (₹50,740.00) — or message CSI on WhatsApp for a 100 kg quote. If you buy 100 kg at once, read the cash cost of a bulk order first: on CSI's listed packs, 100 kg is no cheaper per kilo than 10 kg.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. CSI 468 is our dearer container wax, and a page about ₹100 a kilo could easily make the gap sound trivial. It is not trivial on 100 kg — ₹12,960.00 — and it is not huge per candle — ₹24.83. Whether it is worth paying depends entirely on what your own test shows; if the sheet is a tie, buy the cheaper wax.
Price per kilo is how wax is sold. Price per candle is how it is paid for.

Where the per-kilo gap sits among the other costs

This page turns a per-kilo gap into rupees per candle. The siblings put it next to everything else: the wax share of a ₹799 price, lowest cost per kilo vs lowest cost per saleable candle, landed cost after shipping and pack-size steps. In the first half of the cluster, ₹50 more a kilo for better hot throw and smooth tops vs ₹30 a kilo work specific gaps. The true commercial cost formula brings them together.

Making a different candle? Replace 184 g with your candle's wax weight: wax grams = candle weight × (1 − load). Everything else on this page scales linearly. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (₹599.00 a kilo at 5 kg) and Natural Soy Pearl Wax (₹424.80 a kilo from 5 kg) complete the CSI range in Candle Wax.
Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. Our soy waxes span ₹424.80 to ₹650.00 a kilo. We do not claim the dearer ones are better; we show what each gap costs per candle, and give you the test that decides whether a dearer wax earns it for your candle.

Wax and oil prices are CSI live pricing pulled on 24 September 2026 and re-checked on 1 October 2026 (unchanged). Wick and jar prices are those verified for Blog 760 on 10 September 2026. Every per-candle, per-month and share-of-COGS figure is plain arithmetic shown to two decimals.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate wax cost per candle?
Wax grams per candle × price per kg ÷ 1,000. Wax grams = candle weight × (1 − fragrance load). Divide by (1 − loss allowance) for the real figure.
Does a cheaper soy wax make a big difference to profit?
Per candle, less than most expect: ₹50 a kilo is ₹9.58 on a 200 g candle at 8%. It adds up with volume — ₹9,200.00 a month at 1,000 candles.
How many 200 g candles does 100 kg of wax make?
At 8% load, 543 without any loss and 522 with a 4% pour and test allowance.
What percentage of candle cost is wax?
In this example, ₹93.36 of a ₹266.90 COGS — 35.0%. The ₹799 post looks at it as a share of selling price.
Is CSI 468 worth the extra cost over CSI 464?
Only if your own side-by-side shows value worth ₹24.83 a candle — through throw, a lower load, fewer rejects or storage stability. CSI publishes no data claiming either is better.
Does CSI sell 100 kg of soy wax?
No 100 kg pack is listed; bags go up to 10 kg (Natural Soy Pearl to 50 kg). Ask on WhatsApp for a quote; no volume discount figure is published. The true-cost formula shows how to compare quotes.

"Verified buyer" appears only on the three reviews Judge.me recorded as verified — Monika Deep, Subhankar Roy and Sneha Tamang; the reviews from Ashwini, LJ and Lalitha Jagan are published but not recorded as verified, and carry no badge.

Non-price figures and assumptions: The ₹20/₹50/₹100 gaps and 100 kg are the reader's figures. CSI convention: fragrance load is a share of the finished candle weight (200 g at 8% = 16 g oil + 184 g wax). The 4% allowance, ₹30.00 packaging and label, ₹799 selling price, 1,000 candles a month and the 100–450 g candle sizes are labelled examples. Real gaps use 10 kg rates except Chunks (5 kg rate, cheaper than its 10 kg). Product-page statements quoted: CSI 464 — up to 10%, melt/pour working range 80–90°C, shelf life 60 months; CSI 468 — melting point 50–53°C, pour 58–60°C, up to 13%, shelf life 60 months. Material costs exclude labour, freight and GST.
