Quick answers — read this first
Load or wax — which is it? Start with the load, because it is free to check and the arithmetic is one division. Weigh what you actually put in, divide by the finished batch weight, and compare it with the lower of the two published figures: your wax page's stated load and your oil page's stated load. If your number is above that, you have your answer and you have not spent a rupee finding it.

When is the wax genuinely the problem? When you chose a wax that never published a ceiling, or when you moved a recipe between waxes without re-deciding the load. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks state 8–13%, 10% recommended. CSI 464 states up to 10%. Those are different candles. A recipe is not portable.

What does the fix cost? Nothing — it pays. Coming from 10% to 8% on a 200 g candle swaps 4 g of oil for 4 g of wax: on Sandalwood at 1 kg pricing, ₹17.71 back per candle and ₹17,707.60 across a thousand.

And storage? Lids on, in closed cartons, off sunlit walls and out of parked vehicles. That is general good practice for a fatty material in a hot month. It is not a specification: no CSI fragrance oil page states a storage instruction, a storage temperature or a shelf life, so treat storage as your own process control rather than a supplier rule.
The short answer
The question has a cheap half and an expensive half — do the cheap half first. Auditing the load costs four minutes and a calculator. Changing wax costs a new pack, a new wick decision and a fresh burn test.
You owe the lower of two numbers, not the higher. The wax page states what the wax will hold; the oil page states what that oil is recommended at in soy. A 13% wax paired with an oil whose page says up to 10% is a 10% candle. Summer is when that distinction stops being academic.
The wax's real contribution is headroom, not blame. Stated melt points across CSI's container waxes run from 37.8°C on Eco Soy CSI 400 to 80–90°C on CSI 464, and one states nothing at all. A wax with a low stated melt point and no stated ceiling is the hardest one to hold at the top of a load range in May.

Four loads and one mismatch, drawn to scale in grams rather than in percentages — because grams are what sit on the surface of a warm candle. The bottom bar is the commonest cause of a summer sweat in an Indian workroom: a recipe written for a 13% wax, poured into a wax whose page states 10%. Straight answer

Almost certainly the load, and you can prove it before lunch without buying anything. Weigh the oil you put into your last batch, divide by the finished weight of that batch, and compare the answer with the lower of two published numbers: the load your wax page states and the load your oil page states for soy. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks state 8–13% with 10% recommended; CSI 464 states up to 10%; CSI 468 states up to 13%; and on the oil side, the Sandalwood page says up to 10% for soy wax while Cinnamon Vanilla says up to 13% of total wax weight. Pour 13% into a wax or an oil that published 10% and 6 g of every 200 g candle is oil nothing has promised to hold — which is exactly the quantity that appears on the surface on a 40-degree afternoon. The wax is the second question, and it is about headroom rather than fault: stated melt points across CSI's container waxes run from 37.8°C on Eco Soy CSI 400 to 80–90°C on CSI 464, and some pages state none, so a low-melt or unstated wax gives you less room in May than in December. Storage is third, it is real, and it is general good practice rather than a published specification — because no CSI oil page states any storage instruction or shelf life at all. One line: audit the load against the lower of the two published figures, then check what your wax page actually states, then fix storage — in that order, because only the first one is free.

The four-minute load audit

Every maker who asks this question already owns the answer. It is written on a batch sheet, or it is not written anywhere — and that is the answer too.

Sweating is oil arriving at the surface of set wax. Heat lets it move; heat is not what put too much of it there. So the first question is not "how hot was the room" but "how much oil was in the candle, and against what published figure" — and that one is answerable with a calculator.

Do it in grams rather than percentages, because percentages hide the mistake. This series measures load as a share of the finished candle: a 200 g candle at 8% is 16 g of oil and 184 g of wax. Some pages phrase it differently — Luxury Soy Wax Chunks says "8% to 13% of total wax weight" — but on a 200 g candle the two conventions land within about a gram of each other at these percentages, so the convention is not your problem. The arithmetic below is.

The mistake: auditing the intention instead of the batch. Most makers who "pour at 8%" are pouring at somewhere between 7% and 11%, because the oil goes in by eye near the end of a long session, or because a 50 g bottle is emptied into a batch that needed 42 g. That variation is invisible in winter and visible in May. Weigh the oil into the melt on the scale; never decant by eye and never convert from millilitres, because load is a weight percentage and oils differ in density.

One caution before you accept a pass. On a 300 g test batch, a scale that reads in whole grams puts a third of a percentage point of error into your answer; weigh a 15 g bottle into a 150 g melt and the same gram is over a full point. Small batches need the load calculated from the bottle's weight loss, not from a target.

Two published numbers — you owe the lower

Your wax states what it will hold. Your oil states what it is recommended at. You are bound by whichever of those two came in lower, and it is very often the oil.

This is the commonest structural mistake behind a summer sweat, and it is optimism rather than carelessness. A maker reads "up to 13%" on a wax page, writes 13% on the recipe card, then pours an oil whose own page says up to 10% for soy wax. Both pages are correct; the candle is still three points over the figure that governs it. What a stated load is, and what it is not
Both numbers in that table are formulation guidance published by the material's own page — the wax's figure describes how much oil that wax has been formulated to carry, and the oil's figure is the load its page recommends in soy. Neither is a regulatory limit, and neither is a promise about your jar, your wick or your climate. Where a page publishes nothing — and several do not — the honest move is to cap at the wax's stated figure, start at 8%, and let a burn test decide. Is it actually the wax?

The wax is rarely the villain. It is the thing that decided, before you poured, how much room the summer was going to have to work with.

There are three ways a wax is genuinely implicated, and none of them is "this wax is bad". You moved a recipe between waxes without re-deciding the load — the 13%-into-CSI-464 case from the diagram. Or you chose a wax whose page publishes no load figure at all, so your 10% was never more than a hopeful default. Or the wax's stated melt point sits closer to the temperatures your stock lives at than you realised, shortening the distance between a warm shelf and a soft candle.

That third one deserves numbers, because the range across CSI's own waxes is wider than most makers expect. Below are the melt and pour figures the pages state, verbatim, with blanks left as blanks — a blank is information, and in a hot month it is the information that should make you conservative.

Do not read a melt point as the temperature at which a candle starts to sweat. Those two things are different, and conflating them produces bad advice in both directions. A stated melt point describes where the wax turns liquid; surface beading on a finished candle happens well below it, because it only takes a mild, repeated warming and cooling to let mobile oil migrate and stay on top. What the melt point does tell you is how much thermal distance a wax has, and a page that states 37.8°C has less of it than one stating 80–90°C. Use it as a reason to hold a conservative load and control the shelf — not as a threshold to design around. The conclusion is unglamorous. Changing wax is the expensive answer to a cheap question — a new pack, a re-decided load, a re-tested wick and a fresh fourteen-day cure — and if the real fault was three points of oil you will have bought all of that and still have a greasy candle in June.

Storage and transit, honestly labelled

This is the part of the answer that no product page will give you — so it should be the part you write down yourself.

The honest position, stated plainly: across the 107 CSI fragrance-oil product pages, not one states a storage instruction, a storage temperature, an expiry or a shelf life. Nothing in this section is a supplier specification. What follows is general good practice for handling a fatty, oil-loaded material through an Indian summer — sensible, cheap, and entirely your own process control.

It matters because a candle's temperature history does not end at your bench. One poured well, cured properly and lidded can still arrive greasy after an afternoon in a courier van or a week against a west-facing wall. Sweating is the one fault that keeps happening after the sale.

Write the storage rule into the recipe card, not into your memory
A recipe card that records oil, wax, load, wick, add temperature, pour temperature and cure days but says nothing about where the candles were kept is incomplete in a country with a 40-degree May. Add two fields: cure location and peak storage condition (shaded interior room, or a rooftop room with a metal roof — write what is true). When a batch sweats and its neighbour does not, those two fields are often the only difference, and without them you will re-litigate the load for no reason.

A summer recipe and a cool-season recipe

Most Indian makers run one recipe all year and then apologise for it twice a year. Two documented recipes cost nothing and end the argument.

This is the practical answer to the question in the title, and it is not "load" or "wax" — it is both, seasonally. Hold the same wax, oil, jar and wick, and run two loads: one at the top of your governing figure for the cool months, one two points under it for the hot ones. Both are documented recipes with their own version numbers and their own burn tests.

The arithmetic is the pleasant part, because dropping two points gives money back. On a 200 g candle you replace 4 g of oil with 4 g of wax, and wax is cheaper than oil in every pairing in the CSI range. Cinnamon Vanilla
One of the few CSI oils whose page states a candle load of "Up to 13% of total wax weight", with its own advice to start at 8–10% and work up. Paired with Chunks or CSI 468 the governing figure really is 13% — and this is exactly the oil on which a summer recipe pays for itself, because coming back from 13% to 10% frees 6 g per 200 g candle: ₹27.33 of oil out, ₹3.60 of wax in, ₹23.73 back per candle and ₹2,372.94 per hundred. The CSI principle
A candle poured at its ceiling has no answer for a hot afternoon. A candle poured two points under it is still answering in June.
The ceiling is where a material stops holding oil under good conditions. An Indian summer is not good conditions. Design the product for the worst month it will live through, and the best month looks after itself.

The stock that is already sweating

Diagnosis is for the next batch. This section is for the two hundred candles in cartons right now.

A recipe fix does nothing for stock already made, and this is where makers lose twice — shipping greasy candles, then scrapping a batch that mostly did not need scrapping. The worked example is 200 candles of 200 g at 10% in Sandalwood, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, a 200 ml matte glass jar and an Eco C2 wick: ₹291.26 of materials each, ₹58,251.60 for the batch, of which ₹20,107.20 is oil. Do the remelt arithmetic before you remelt anythingYou cannot subtract oil that is already in wax, so a remelt corrects a load only by adding wax and pouring more candles. Write the one-paragraph customer answer before anyone asksAgree the wording once: what the film is, that it is a surface effect of a high load meeting heat, that it does not change how the candle burns, and what you are doing about it. "We have changed the recipe for summer" is a better story than silence, and it is the same sentence you will use next May.
Do not "fix" a sweating batch with a heat gun and a wipe. Reflowing the top surface hides the symptom for a day and moves more oil upward while it does it. The same goes for adding a hardener you have not tested: CSI lists Vybar with its own stated usage of 0.5%–2% of total wax weight, 0.5%–1% at the lower end for soy, 1% recommended, added to the melted wax before fragrance and colour — which makes it a formulation decision for the next batch, tested from scratch, not a rescue for this one. Note also that Vybar is listed only in 50 g and 100 g; there is no 1 kg pack, so plan a production quantity on WhatsApp before you build a recipe around it.

Qualifying a summer recipe

Two points lower is a different candle. Treat it like one, or you will trade a greasy candle for a tunnelling one.

Dropping the load changes more than the surface: it changes how much oil the wick draws, how the scent reads after cure, and how fast the pool opens. So the summer recipe needs its own qualification, designed around the summer question — does this candle stay clean through repeated warming, and does it still smell like the product I sell? The protocol below costs nine jars. It is a procedure to follow, not a result to expect; the numbers you write in it are the only ones that describe your workroom and your climate.

Reading it Compare arms only against each other, never against a memory of last year's candle. Choose the lowest load whose answer to "would you sell this?" is still yes, and whose warm jar is clean at day 28.

Nine jars at 200 g is 1,620 g of wax and 144 g of oil across the three arms — about two kilos of Chunks and a 500 g bottle, well inside one small order. Frequently asked questions

Is my fragrance load too high or is my wax the problem?
Check the load first, because it is free. Divide the grams of oil you weighed in by the batch weight and compare it with the lower of your wax page's stated load and your oil page's stated load for soy. A 13% pour in CSI 464, whose page states up to 10%, leaves 6 g per 200 g candle unaccounted for. The wax is the second question, and it is about headroom: Chunks publish 8–13%, CSI 464 publishes 10%, and Eco Soy CSI 400 publishes nothing.
What fragrance load should I use for candles in Indian summer?
Two percentage points under the figure that governs your pairing, and never above it. If your governing figure is 10%, run 8% from March to September and 10% in the cooler months, with both written down as separate recipes and both burn tested. On a 200 g candle that swap replaces 4 g of oil with 4 g of wax and returns ₹17.71 per candle on Sandalwood at 1 kg pricing. Test the lower load properly before you sell it — a different load is a different candle, not the same candle diluted.
Which CSI wax is best for hot weather?
The one whose page publishes the numbers you need, held at a conservative load. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks state 8–13%, 10% recommended, an add temperature of 80–90°C, a pour of 70–80°C and a cure of at least 48 hours, ideally one to two weeks. CSI 468 states up to 13% but also the lowest stated melting point of the three at 50–53°C, so use its headroom carefully. No CSI page claims any wax is heat-resistant, and neither do we.
How should I store fragrance oils and finished candles in summer?
As general good practice: caps tight and bottles upright away from heat sources; candles lidded, boxed and kept in the coolest interior room, off external walls and out of parked vehicles; cartons inspected weekly rather than only at dispatch. Be clear that this is process control, not a specification — no CSI fragrance oil page states a storage instruction, a storage temperature or a shelf life, and we will not invent one. A care sticker at ₹413 per 500 passes the same advice to the customer for ₹0.83 a candle.
Can I still sell candles that have sweated?
Sort them rather than deciding as a batch. Wipe a sample of twenty, hold them lidded for seventy-two hours at the warmest temperature your stock realistically sees, and look again — that second look is the one that sorts. Candles that stay clean are very likely fine; a light film that keeps returning belongs in direct sales, samples or gifting with a care sticker rather than on a retail shelf in May; persistent beading should not be sold. Twenty rejected 200 g candles at 10% can be remelted with 1,000 g of fresh wax into twenty-five candles at 8% for about ₹1,001.10 in extra wax, jars and wicks.
Does adding an additive stop candles sweating?
It is a formulation change for a future batch, not a rescue for this one, and CSI does not publish any claim that an additive prevents sweating. Vybar's page states its own usage — 0.5%–2% of total wax weight, 0.5%–1% at the lower end for soy, 1% recommended — and says to add it to melted wax before fragrance and colour. It is listed in 50 g and 100 g only, with no 1 kg pack, so message us before designing production around it. The cheaper and better-documented lever remains the load.
