Candle Supplier Guides · Candle business
The complete raw-material list for a candle business, with what each material does, the smallest pack worth buying and the two lines you can skip at the start.
6 materials
Wax, fragrance, wick, vessel, colour, finishing — four compulsory, two optional · ₹217.14 of materials in one 150 g scented jar candle · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
What raw materials do you actually need to make a candle to sell? Four: wax, fragrance oil, a wick and a vessel, plus a wick sticker at ₹2.50 to hold the wick down. Colour and finishing extras such as candle care stickers are useful but optional in the first month.

How much of each goes into one candle? For a 150 g scented jar candle: 150 g of wax, 12 g of fragrance oil at 8% of wax weight, one wick and one vessel. That is ₹76.11 of CSI 464, ₹38.23 of British Rose at the 500 gm rate, ₹5.90 of wick and ₹94.40 of glass.

What is the smallest sensible pack of each? 1 kg of wax (₹507.40), a 15 gm fragrance tester (₹94.40), ten Eco Candle Wicks (₹59.00), a five-pack of 70 gram votive jars (₹159.30) and a sheet of 40 wick stickers (₹100.00). Smaller than that and you cannot repeat a batch; larger and you are betting on an untested formula.

Which raw materials can wait? Colour and additives. Dye at ₹236.00 for 15 ml and Vybar at ₹156.00 for 50 g change how a candle looks and sets, not whether it works. Fix wax, wick, load and cure first; colour a candle that already burns properly.
The short answer
Compulsory, in this order: wax (CSI 464, ₹507.40/kg), fragrance oil (from ₹5.90 — 15 gm testers at ₹94.40), a wick (Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1), ₹5.90 each) and a vessel (70 gram votive ₹31.86, 150 gram jar ₹94.40).
Compulsory but forgotten: wick stickers at ₹2.50 each. They cost less than any other line and prevent the failure that ruins a whole tray.
Optional at the start: liquid dye and mica, Vybar, lacquer and decorative items. None of them make a bad candle good.
How many 150 g candles the smallest sensible CSI pack of each raw material covers Smallest sensible pack, in candlesBar and number = 150 g candles one pack covers, at 8% loadThe packs do not line up: your first batch is capped by theshortest bar you buy, and the rest becomes shelf stock.Fragrance oil tester, 15 gm1₹94.40 the packWax CSI 464, 1 kg6₹507.40 the packFragrance oil, 100 gm8₹342.20 the packEco Candle Wicks C1, 1010₹59.00 the packGlass jar 150 g, pack of 1010₹944.00 the packWick stickers, 4040₹100.00 the packColour is left out: no CSI dye or mica page publishes a doseper kilo, so no candle count can honestly be drawn for it.Wax at 150 g a candle; oil at 12 g a candle.
What it shows: for a 150 g scented jar candle at an 8% fragrance load, how many candles the smallest sensible CSI pack of each raw material covers — and how badly the pack sizes fail to line up. Deliberately left out: colour, because no CSI dye or mica page publishes a dose per kilo of wax, so any candle count for it would be invented; equipment, which is not a raw material; and your own packaging and labels, which CSI does not sell.
Straight answer
What raw materials are needed to start a candle business?
Six, and only four of them are compulsory. Wax is the body — for containers, Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at ₹507.40/kg, whose page publishes a ceiling of up to 10% fragrance and gives 80–90°C as the working range for melting and pouring. Fragrance oil is the reason a scented candle sells: dosed as a percentage of wax weight, 8% is a safe working figure, so a 150 g candle takes 12 g. CSI lists 92 oils; British Rose starts at ₹94.40 for a 15 gm tester and its page states soy up to 10% of total wax weight, a flash point of 192°C and 0% vanillin. A wick is the engine — Eco Candle Wicks come as Thin (C1) at ₹5.90 and Thick (C2) at ₹9.44, and no CSI wick page publishes a diameter chart, so you size it by burning. A vessel is usually the most expensive line on the list: a 70 gram votive is ₹31.86 and a 150 gram jar with a golden lid is ₹94.40. Add one thing nobody counts as a material and everybody needs — a wick sticker at ₹2.50 — and you can make and sell a candle. Colour (dye from ₹236.00, mica from ₹57.82) and finishing extras (care stickers from ₹0.70 each, isopropyl alcohol from ₹383.00, lacquer, decorations) are the two optional groups: buy them once the burn is right. All six live in four collections — wax, fragrance oils, wicks and containers — and the whole material cost of one 150 g scented jar candle comes to ₹217.14.
One line: Wax, fragrance, wick and vessel are compulsory; a wick sticker is compulsory and forgotten; colour and finishing can wait until the candle already burns properly.
The four compulsory lines, smallest sensible packs: 1 kg Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 ₹507.40 · 15 gm British Rose Fragrance Oil ₹94.40 · 10 Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) ₹59.00 · 5 70 gram votive jars ₹159.30 — plus 40 wick stickers ₹100.00.

The six raw materials, and the two you can skip

Every candle on every shelf in India is the same four materials in a different arrangement. The other two are decoration.

A candle is a fuel, a scent, a wick and something to hold it. That is the whole list, and it is worth saying plainly because most first orders go wrong by buying the interesting things — the micas, the decorative dried flowers, the lacquer — before the boring ones are settled. The table below is the complete raw-material list with a job for every line, CSI’s smallest sensible pack, and an honest verdict on whether you can start without it. Tools are a separate decision and are not on this list: a thermometer and a melter are equipment, not materials.

The complete list
Six raw materials, what each does, and the smallest pack worth buying
Material What it does Compulsory? Smallest sensible CSI pack Price
1 · Wax The fuel and the body — 85 to 95% of the candle’s weight Yes Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, 1 kg ₹507.40
2 · Fragrance oil The scent, dosed as a percentage of wax weight Yes, for a scented candle British Rose, 15 gm tester ₹94.40
3 · Wick Draws melted wax up and burns it — sets the melt pool Yes Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1), 10 wicks ₹59.00
4 · Vessel Holds the wax and is most of what the customer pays for Yes, for container candles Clear Glass Votive Jar 70 gram, pack of 5 ₹159.30
4a · Wick sticker Bonds the wick tab to the base of the vessel Yes, and always forgotten Candle Wick Stickers, 40 ₹100.00
5 · Colour Dye tints the wax; mica is a surface pigment No Blue Mica 10 gm, or Candle Dye Liquid 15 ml ₹57.82 / ₹236.00
6 · Finishing Safety labels, jar cleaning, shine, decoration No Candle Care Stickers Roll 500, or Isopropyl Alcohol Spray 150 ML ₹413.00 / ₹383.00
Optional additive Vybar — hardness, surface, fragrance retention (page claims) No Vybar Additive, 50 g ₹156.00
Priced above: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 500 g ₹260.00, 1 kg ₹507.40 · British Rose 15 gm ₹94.40, 100 gm ₹342.20, 500 gm ₹1,593.00, 1 kg ₹3,068.00 · Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) 10 ₹59.00, 100 ₹590.00; Thick (C2) 100 ₹944.00 · Clear Glass Votive Jar 70 gram Pack of 5 ₹159.30, Pack of 10 ₹318.60 · Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid 150 gram Pack of 10 ₹944.00 · Candle Wick Stickers 40 ₹100.00 · Blue Mica 10 gm ₹57.82 · Candle Dye Liquid 15 ml ₹236.00 · Candle Care Stickers Roll 500 ₹413.00, 1000 ₹699.00 · Isopropyl Alcohol Spray 150 ML ₹383.00 · Vybar Additive 50 g ₹156.00.

Notice the shape of the list: the compulsory lines are cheap to start and expensive to scale, and the optional lines are the reverse. A 15 gm oil tester at ₹94.40 buys you a real answer about a scent; a 15 ml bottle of dye at ₹236.00 buys you a colour you have not yet decided whether to sell. Spend on the first kind.

1 · Wax: the body of the candle

Wax is 85 to 95% of what is in the jar, and it decides almost everything else: how much fragrance you can carry, what temperature you pour at, how the top sets and how well the candle sticks to glass. CSI’s wax collection holds fifteen products, fourteen waxes and one additive. For a container-candle business the practical shortlist is small.

Wax shortlist
What CSI publishes on the waxes a new business would actually consider
Wax Form and use Stated fragrance load Working figures on the page Price per kg
Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 100% soy flakes, single-pour containers Up to 10% 80–90°C given as the working range for melting and pouring; 60-month shelf life; store cool and dry, away from sunlight and moisture ₹507.40
Luxury Soy Wax Chunks 100% soy chunks, jars and containers Up to 13% (8% start, 10% recommended, 13% maximum) Melt to approx. 80–85°C; fragrance at 80–90°C, stir slowly 2 minutes; pour 75–80°C; cure minimum 48 hours, ideally 1–2 weeks ₹599.00
Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 Coconut-soy flakes, one-pour containers Up to 13% Melting point 50–53°C; pour 58–60°C; 60-month shelf life ₹650.00
Eco Soy CSI 400 100% soy chunks, produced in India, container wax Not published — ask on WhatsApp Add fragrance at 85°C (80–90°C), stir gently 2 minutes, pour directly; no additives needed (page) ₹399.00
Soy Pillar Wax Soy chunks for pillars, moulds and designer candles Not published Smooth, creamy finish, releases from moulds (page). Not for jars ₹600.00
Beeswax Pellets Yellow pellets, blends and pillars Not published — ₹800.00
Fully Refined Paraffin Wax Pellets Paraffin pellets Not published Low melting point, good adhesion (page) ₹354.00
Coconut Wax Coconut wax, usually blended Not published Described as a blend partner for soy or beeswax (page) ₹1,026.60

Two honest notes. First, a lower price per kilo is not automatically a cheaper candle: paraffin pellets at ₹354.00/kg are less than half the price of CSI 464, but they are a different product for a different market, and a soy-led brand cannot swap them in without re-testing wick, load and cure. Second, buy the 1 kg pack rather than the 500 g pack unless you truly only need half a kilo: 500 g of CSI 464 works out at ₹520.00/kg against ₹507.40/kg for the 1 kg bag, ₹12.60 a kilo more.

HOW MUCH WAX FOR YOUR FIRST ORDER
Divide by your fill weight, not by a candle count someone else assumed. At 150 g a candle, 1 kg makes six with 100 g over; at a 70 g votive fill it makes fourteen. Add a wastage allowance — 5% is a reasonable planning assumption for residue in the pouring vessel and the odd rejected pour, and it is an assumption, not a measurement. Test-pour before you commit to a 5 kg or 10 kg pack.

2 · Fragrance oil: the line that decides whether anyone reorders

Fragrance is dosed as a percentage of wax weight, which is how CSI’s pages state it. At 8% a 150 g candle takes 12 g of oil; at 10% it takes 15 g. Two ceilings apply at once — the wax grade’s stated maximum and the oil page’s stated candle range — and the lower one governs. CSI 464 publishes up to 10%; British Rose publishes soy up to 10% of total wax weight; so the working ceiling for that pair is 10%, and 8% is a sensible place to start. Put Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (up to 13%) with an oil whose page says 6–10% for soy, such as Roasted Coffee, and the ceiling is 10%, not 13%.

Reading an oil page
Six CSI oils and what their pages actually publish
Oil Family (page) Stated candle usage Flash point Vanillin / discolouration 15 gm price
British Rose Floral — soft, romantic, refined Soy: up to 10% of total wax weight; paraffin up to 6% 192°C 0% vanillin — no discolouration or yellowing (page) ₹94.40
Citrus Lemon Citrus / Fresh / Vibrant Soy: 6–10%; paraffin 6–8% Not published Approximately 0% vanillin (page) ₹81.42
Roasted Coffee Gourmand — warm, rich, invigorating Soy: 6–10%; paraffin 6–8% Approximately 191–193°C Vanilla and caramel base notes contain vanillin (page) ₹93.22
Lavender Floral / Herbal / Fresh 6–10% of total wax weight Not published Not published; page states IFRA certification ₹105.02
Sandalwood Woody / Creamy / Warm Soy: up to 10%; paraffin up to 6% 203°C 0% vanillin — safe for white wax (page) ₹93.22
Vanilla Bean Not published Up to 10% for soy; up to 6% for paraffin 203°C 2.5% vanillin — potential discolouration, test with lighter wax (page) ₹130.00

Three things that page data is often misread as. Flash point is not a burn-off temperature. It is a transport, storage and handling property. The 80–90°C window at which soy pages ask you to add fragrance sits well below the flash points quoted above. Vanillin is a cosmetic issue, not a safety one: an oil with vanillin can turn a white wax cream or amber over weeks. That is discolouration, nothing more, and it matters only if your brand sells white candles. IFRA is a page claim — where a page states IFRA certification this guide repeats that it states it, and documentation is available on WhatsApp. Not every one of CSI’s 92 oil pages publishes a family, a usage range or a flash point; where a page publishes nothing, ask rather than guess.

You bought a 1 kg bottle of an oil you had never burned. British Rose at 1 kg is ₹3,068.00 and Lavender is ₹5,221.00 — that is real money committed to a scent whose hot throw in your wax, your vessel and your wick you have not seen. The 15 gm testers exist precisely for this: ₹269.04 buys three of them, which is less than the material cost of two finished 150 g candles. Pour one candle of each, cure it, burn it in the room it will be sold into, and let the winner earn the big bottle.

3 · Wick: the only material you cannot pick from a spec sheet

The wick is the engine. Too small and the candle tunnels, leaving a ring of unburnt wax down the side; too large and it smokes, mushrooms and overheats the glass. CSI’s wick collection carries seven products, and an important honesty point applies to all of them: wick sizing tables by candle diameter are not published on the individual product pages. No supplier’s table, published or not, can account for your exact wax, load, dye and vessel anyway — general practice in the trade is to test-burn two or three sizes in the real vessel and pick the one that reaches a full melt pool without excessive flame height. The wick guide by diameter walks through that test.

Wick shortlist
What CSI sells, and which candle each wick type is described for
Wick Page description Buy unit Per wick
Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) Cotton and paper fibres, for natural waxes 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 or 1000 ₹5.90
Eco Candle Wicks Thick (C2) The larger of the two Eco sizes 20, 50, 100, 500 or 1000 ₹9.44
Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made For large-diameter candles exceeding 8 cm; 10.16 cm tall Packs of 10 to 1000 ₹12.00
Performance Wooden Wicks (imported) Pack of 10 with tabs; crackle 10, 50 or 100 ₹59.00 at 10, ₹41.30 at 100
Eco Braided Wicks For large-diameter container jars 5 m or 10 m Sold by length

For a first order, buy both Eco sizes at the smallest pack — ten Thin (C1) at ₹59.00 and twenty Thick (C2) at ₹188.80 — and pour the same wax, the same load and the same vessel with each. Around ₹5.90 a wick, running that comparison costs less than one jar. Wooden wicks are a different product decision, not a size decision: at ₹59.00 each in the ten-pack they are the most expensive wick on the list, and they change the look and the sound of the candle as much as the burn.

You bought 100 wicks of one size with the jars. A hundred Thin (C1) wicks is ₹590.00 committed to a guess. If the melt pool comes up short in your vessel, that box is stock you cannot use at your chosen diameter, and the jars are already paid for. Buy ten of each size, burn them, then buy the hundred.
Test both wick sizes before you commit: Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) ten for ₹59.00 and Thick (C2) twenty for ₹188.80 — ₹5.90 and ₹9.44 a wick. Ordering wicks, wax and jars together for one delivery? Ask on WhatsApp for bulk pricing and a GST invoice.

4 · Vessel: the raw material that is also the product

On a 150 g scented jar candle, the glass is the biggest single material line — ₹94.40 against ₹76.11 of wax. That makes the vessel a brand decision before it is a materials decision, and it is the line where a new business most often overspends. CSI’s containers collection lists eighty products across glass, tin, ceramic, votives, tealight cups and wax-melt clamshells. Pick by stated fill weight, because that is what sets your wax consumption.

Vessel shortlist
In-stock CSI containers by stated fill weight
Vessel Stated capacity Buy unit Per unit Wax it takes
Tea Lights Aluminium Tealight cup 10, 50, 100 or 500 ₹6.49 A few grams — sampler and gift-filler use
Clear Glass Votive Jar 70 gram 70 gram Pack of 5 or 10 ₹31.86 70 g — ₹35.52 of CSI 464
Golden Aluminium Tin Container 85 gram fill weight Pack of 12 ₹30.00 85 g
Tin Containers 85 gram and 135 gram Pack of 12 ₹70.80 / ₹96.76 85 g or 135 g
Shot Glass Jar 130 gram Pack of 6 ₹48.00 130 g
Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid 150 gram Pack of 10 or 20 ₹94.40 150 g — ₹76.11 of CSI 464
Ceramic Jar Not published Single ₹129.80 Weigh it and see
Borosilicate Glass Jar with golden lid 600 gram fill capacity Single ₹200.00 600 g — a large three-wick format
Wax Melts Containers Empty Heart or square clamshell 5 to 100 ₹29.50 Wax melts, no wick

Two Indian realities belong in this decision. First, glass travels badly: a vessel that survives a courier van in January may not survive a monsoon route in July, and breakage in transit is your cost, not a line on any supplier’s price list — one of the real CSI reviews above is from a buyer noting that some tins arrived slightly dented. Order a small pack of a new vessel first and see how it arrives to you before you build a collection around it. Second, a tealight or a votive is a legitimate commercial format here, not a compromise: at ₹6.49 and ₹31.86 they let a new brand offer a festive multipack without the glass cost of a full-size jar.

5 and 6 · Colour and finishing: what is optional and what only looks it

Colour is the most over-bought category in this trade. Candle Dye Liquid is ₹236.00 for 15 ml and micas start at ₹57.82 for 10 gm of Blue Mica, rising to ₹116.82 for 10 gm of Gold Mica. Neither page publishes a dose per kilogram of wax, so this guide will not print one. What is worth knowing is the difference in kind: liquid dye dissolves into the wax and tints the whole body, while mica is a pigment that does not dissolve — general candle-making practice is to treat mica as a surface and decorative material rather than something to disperse through a burning melt pool. The CSI 464 page describes a creamy, opaque finish with low frosting undyed, which is a perfectly saleable look.

Finishing is where one genuinely compulsory item hides. Candle Wick Stickers at ₹2.50 each are the cheapest line in this entire guide and the one that prevents a wick lifting off the base mid-pour, which ruins the candle and the jar together. Large Candle Wick Stickers at ₹6.23 each do the same job for bigger tabs. Everything else in the group is genuinely optional: Candle Care Stickers Roll at ₹0.83 each for the 500 roll or ₹0.70 for the 1000 roll carry the burn and safety instructions a retailer will expect on a finished candle; Isopropyl Alcohol Spray at ₹383.00 for 150 ML or ₹520.00 for 1 Litre cleans a jar before filling; lacquer and decorative items sit further down the list still.

One additive deserves a mention because beginners ask about it constantly. Vybar is ₹156.00 for 50 g and its page describes it as compatible with soy, paraffin, coconut and blends at 0.5–2% of wax weight, with the lower end, 0.5–1%, for soy, added to melted wax before fragrance and colour; the page claims improved fragrance retention, a smoother surface and less mottling and sweating. Treat it as an experiment to run in a controlled batch, not as a fix. Single-pour soy grades such as Eco Soy CSI 400 are sold as needing no additives, and an additive will not repair a pour temperature or a stirring habit that is wrong.

The CSI principle
The cheapest line on the list is the one that saves the batch.
A wick sticker is ₹2.50. The jar it protects is ₹94.40, and the candle in it carries ₹217.14 of materials.
Buy testers with the money you were going to spend on colour.

Building a first raw-material order that does not strand you

The trap in a raw-material list is that the pack sizes do not line up. One kilo of wax makes six 150 g candles; the smallest sheet of wick stickers holds forty; a pack of jars holds ten. Buy naively and you end up with 34 spare stickers, four spare jars and no wax. Build the order in this sequence instead, and the leftovers all point in the same direction — towards the second batch.

1
Fix the vessel and the fill weight first. Everything downstream is a multiple of it. A 70 gram votive at ₹31.86 and a 150 gram jar at ₹94.40 lead to completely different orders. Write down the fill weight in grams — 70, 85, 130, 150 — and do not change it again this month.
2
Multiply out the wax, then add the wastage assumption. Candles × fill weight = grams of wax. Add 5% as a planning assumption for residue and rejects, then round up to a real pack: 500 g, 1 kg, 5 kg or 10 kg of CSI 464. Ten 150 g candles is 1.5 kg plus wastage, so a 1 kg and a 500 g pack, or simply 2 kg.
3
Buy fragrance as testers, not as stock. Three 15 gm testers cost ₹269.04. At 8% of wax weight, 15 gm doses 187 g of wax — one full 150 g candle with a little over. Check the oil page’s own candle range against your wax’s ceiling and use the lower figure. Only after a 14-day cure and a real burn should a 100 gm or 500 gm pack be ordered.
4
Buy two wick sizes, one pack of stickers, and nothing decorative. Ten Thin (C1) at ₹59.00 and twenty Thick (C2) at ₹188.80, plus 40 wick stickers at ₹100.00. That whole first list — 1 kg of wax, three oil testers, both wick sizes, five votive jars and the stickers — comes to ₹1,189.14 and gives you a genuine comparison instead of a guess.

Timing matters in India as much as quantity. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November 2026, and soy candles want 14 to 21 days of cure before the scent is doing what it will do on a customer’s shelf — the Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page itself asks for a minimum of 48 hours and ideally one to two weeks. Working backwards from the festival, a festive range should be poured by about mid-October, which means the testers have to be burnt in September. In the meantime store wax and oil the way the CSI 464 page asks: cool, dry, away from sunlight and moisture. A 40°C room in Delhi, Ahmedabad or Nagpur in May is not storage, and neither is a humid Mumbai balcony in July.

What is not a raw material — and what CSI does not sell

Two categories get folded into raw-material lists where they do not belong. The first is equipment: a thermometer, a scale, a pouring pitcher and a melter are tools you buy once, not things that go into the candle, and they are costed separately — the live tool guide covers that decision. The second is everything that goes around the finished candle, and here CSI has to be straight with you: it does not sell those items and does not publish rates for them, so this page leaves them blank.

Not on the CSI list
The lines you still have to buy, from somebody else
Line Sold by CSI? Your figure

Courier and freight, inbound and outbound No — quotes on WhatsApp, nothing published your figure

Photography, ads, marketplace or gateway fees No your figure

That distinction is worth keeping clean in your own spreadsheet: materials from CSI in one column, your own costs in another, with a blank in every row this page cannot honestly fill. Prices on the CSI store are inclusive of tax and GST invoicing is available on WhatsApp +91 7397976926, but your own tax position is a question for your accountant, not for a supplier’s blog. What CSI can supply alongside the materials is documentation: MSDS and IFRA papers on request, which is what a corporate gifting buyer or a retail chain will ask for before a first purchase order.

ONE CONSIGNMENT, NOT THREE
Freight is your cost and it is charged per consignment, so the single most effective saving available to a new maker is ordering the wax, the oils, the wicks, the jars and the stickers together rather than as they occur to you. Two of the reviews on CSI’s own product pages raise delivery charges, and combining orders is the honest answer to that. Add the next batch’s testers to the same parcel while you are at it.
Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles, and sells every material on this list — so the page has to be honest about what you should not buy. That is why it puts colour and Vybar in the optional column, tells you a 15 gm tester at ₹94.40 is a better first purchase than a 1 kg bottle at ₹3,068.00, says plainly that the biggest line in a 150 g candle is the glass at ₹94.40 rather than the wax at ₹76.11, and points out that ten wicks at ₹59.00 will teach you more than a hundred at ₹590.00.

Every price and pack size comes from live CSI stock on 11 September 2026, September 2026 pricing, taxes included, and the linked product pages are authoritative if anything changes. Fragrance ceilings are the wax manufacturer’s stated formulation maximums as printed on each page, expressed as a percentage of wax weight; oil families, candle usage ranges, flash points and vanillin figures are quoted from the individual oil pages, and where a page publishes none of those this guide says so rather than estimating. Wick sizing by diameter is not published per wick, so this page recommends test burns. The 5% wastage allowance is a planning assumption, not measured data. Outer packaging, labels, freight, labour and marketing are not CSI products and are shown as blank rows.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum raw material list to make one sellable candle?
Wax, fragrance oil, a wick, a vessel and a wick sticker. At CSI’s smallest sensible packs that is 1 kg of CSI 464 (₹507.40), a 15 gm oil tester (from ₹81.42), ten Eco Candle Wicks (₹59.00), five 70 gram votives (₹159.30) and 40 wick stickers (₹100.00). The candle itself consumes ₹217.14 of materials at a 150 g fill.
How much fragrance oil per kg of wax?
At 8% of wax weight, 80 g per kilogram; at 10%, 100 g. Always check both ceilings — the wax page’s maximum and the oil page’s stated candle range — and use the lower. CSI 464 publishes up to 10%, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks up to 13%, and most CSI oil pages stop at 10% for soy.
Do I need dye or mica to sell candles?
No. Undyed soy has a creamy, opaque finish that sells perfectly well, and the CSI 464 page describes exactly that. Candle Dye Liquid at ₹236.00 for 15 ml and mica from ₹57.82 for 10 gm are aesthetic choices. Neither page publishes a dose per kilogram, so start small and record what you use.
Which raw material costs the most in a candle?
The vessel, in almost every container candle. In a 150 g scented jar the glass is ₹94.40 against ₹76.11 of wax and ₹38.23 of fragrance. Anyone budgeting a candle business from the price of wax alone will be short by a wide margin.
Can I buy all the raw materials from one supplier?
The four material categories — wax, fragrance oils, wicks and containers — are all on one CSI order, which matters because freight is charged per consignment. Your outer packaging, printed labels and courier are not CSI products and will come from elsewhere.
What raw materials do wax melts need instead of candles?
The same wax and fragrance, no wick, and a clamshell instead of a jar: Wax Melts Containers Empty are ₹29.50 each in the pack of 10. It is the cheapest way to use up a fragrance that did not throw well enough in a candle, because a melt has no flame to feed and the scent is released by a warmer.

About this guide: Written by the CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA team. The structure of the list — wax, fragrance, wick, vessel, colour, finishing, with the vessel fixed first and the fragrance bought as testers — applies to any supplier’s catalogue. Fragrance loads are expressed as a percentage of wax weight throughout, which is how CSI’s product pages state them.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on their product pages. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me. One longer review is shortened with an ellipsis; wording is otherwise unedited. One is not recorded as a verified purchase — shown as recorded. Not recorded by Judge.me as a verified purchase, so shown without a verified-buyer badge: Ashwini. No location is shown against any review because Judge.me does not store one.
