Running 5,000 melts without 5,000 small problems
At a few hundred melts, you fix faults one piece at a time. At 5,000, a small fault repeated becomes a lost batch. The wax and oil figures are the easy part. This section is about the pouring floor.
Pour in scent order
Run your scents from lightest to heaviest in one session, and from pale colours to dark. A citrus pot that follows a vanilla pot carries a trace of vanilla. Better still, keep a separate pouring jug for each scent family and wipe pots out between changes. The residue left in pots and jugs is part of why CSI plans a 5% wastage allowance.
Weigh oil by batch, not by eye
Mix in fixed batch sizes and weigh the oil for every one. At 10% fragrance, each 1 kg batch is 900 g of wax and 100 g of oil. Fixed batches keep every melt the same strength, and they turn a production run into a simple count: 5,000 melts become a known number of identical batches.
Sealing clamshells while the melts are still settling. Oil that rises in the first days collects under the lid and on the label. Let a test tray rest for the time your trials showed was needed, check for beading, then seal the run.
Monsoon and summer on the pouring floor
From June to September, humidity is high across much of India, and between April and June, north and west Indian temperatures routinely reach 40–45°C. Both affect how melts set and how they behave once packed. Pour in the steadiest room you have, keep cooling racks away from open windows, and store finished stock off the floor in sealed boxes. If summer stock begins to sweat in storage, lower the load for summer batches or firm the wax with microcrystalline in its stated 1–5% hardening range.
Batch labels you will thank yourself for
Give each batch a code: date, scent and a batch number. Put it on the case, and on the melt label if space allows. When a customer reports a weak or sweating melt, the code tells you which batch to check and which others came from the same pour.
