What the listed prices say about 10 kg versus 100 kg

The question usually arrives when the 10 kg bag that lasted a month starts lasting a week. Ten times the volume should mean a lower price per kilo — and sometimes it does. But first look at what the listed prices already do, because they show where published volume pricing starts and stops.

Read across the rows and three patterns appear. Four waxes are flat or effectively flat from 1 kg upward — a few paise either way, and on Luxury Soy Chunks the 10 kg bag is actually 90 paise a kilo dearer than the 5 kg. Two waxes step down once: Natural Soy Pearl by ₹25.20 a kilo (5.6%) and CSI 468 by ₹13 (2%), both at 5 kg. And on every wax, the column that matters to you — 10 kg to 100 kg — reads ₹0. Even the one 50 kg pack in the range, on Natural Soy Pearl Wax, lists at the same per-kilo price as its 10 kg bag.

That is not a penalty. The published list is built for packs up to 10 kg, and recurring volume above that is priced by conversation, not by a bigger variant on the product page — so stop waiting for a break the list was never going to show.

Where the published price breaks really are

Wax gets the attention, but the lines where the listed ladder rewards volume are elsewhere in the basket — volume pricing you can collect without asking anyone.

The size of those drops varies enormously by product, which is the practical point. If your candles use Performance Wooden Wicks, moving from 10-packs to 100-packs is worth ₹17.70 a candle — more than a ₹90-a-kilo wax discount would be. If they use Eco Candle Wicks, pack size saves nothing. Fragrance oils mostly step down between 100 g and 1 kg, some sharply (Citronella lists at ₹7,670 a kilo in 100 g bottles and ₹2,891 at 1 kg), some not at all. Jars in 50s and 100s are markedly cheaper than jars in 5s.

What a better price would actually be worth

A 100 kg month of wax is about 543 × 200g candles at an 8% load (184g of wax each), and it needs about 8.7 kg of fragrance oil alongside it (wax × 8 ÷ 92). Here is what different price improvements on those two lines are worth over a month, a year and a single candle. These are rulers for judging any offer, not predictions of one.

Two conclusions. First, the annual figures are worth having — ₹12,000 to ₹30,000 a year is a real sum for a small brand, and it is reasonable to ask a supplier about a recurring quote. Second, the per-candle figures are small. If your 200g candle retails at several hundred rupees, ₹1.84 will not change whether it is profitable. That tells you where negotiation should rank: behind recipe consistency, rejects and freight, and never at the cost of any of them.

Notice also that oil and wax are close in monthly spend even though the kilo counts are an order of magnitude apart. At listed prices, 100 kg of CSI 464 is ₹50,740, and 8.7 kg of oil at the ₹4,263.45 average of four common scents is about ₹37,073. A request that covers only wax covers under 60% of the spend on those two lines — one more reason to ask for the basket, not the bag.

Judge every offer on landed cost per candle

By the time wax is in a jar on your shelf, three costs have joined the per-kilo price: freight, whatever a new material does to your recipe, and candles that fail inspection. Any of them can erase a saving, so compare offers on landed cost per sellable candle.

The reject row uses about ₹203.72 of materials per candle — the costed 200g candle in the 500-candles-a-month basket — so five rejected candles are ₹1,018.60 of materials. The recipe row prices 1g of oil at the ₹4,263.45/kg four-scent average (₹4.26) less 1g of CSI 464 wax (₹0.51), a net ₹3.76 a candle, across 543 candles. Freight deserves its own line because customers raise it: two CSI reviewers mention delivery charges — Manasa GN writes that "the delivery charges are very high which is restricting me to purchase more", and another found "shipment charges were too higb" while rating the quality top notch. If freight is what limits your ordering, say so in the quote request and ask for freight per drop at two drop sizes.
