Indian candle businesses source jars through five broad channels. Each exists because it solves a real problem for someone, and each creates a different one. The table sets out what each is generally good for and what to check before relying on it. Landed cost per usable jar: the number to compare

Headline prices compare badly across channels because each channel bundles different things. One source includes lids, another sells them separately; one ships free above a threshold, another charges per carton; one packs glass in dividers, another in a loose box. The lesson is not that any of these jars breaks — it is that the same loss costs far more per jar in a small pack. Ten questions to ask any jar source

These are the commercial questions — the ones about how buying works — that sit alongside the physical specification. Ask all ten of every shortlisted source, in writing, before the first bulk order. The last column is the answer that should make you pause.

How CSI answers, stated plainly: small packs exist on every in-stock glass listing (from a single jar or packs of 5–10); prices are listed at each pack; capacity and dimensions are stated on many pages and missing on some, which this series flags listing by listing; an 85°C hot-pour limit is stated on six glass listings; lids are stated on some jars and not mentioned on others; GST invoicing and recurring volume are handled on WhatsApp; wax, wicks, dyes and packaging sit in the same store. Sample, pilot, scale: the sourcing path

A good sourcing decision takes three orders, not one, and each order answers a question the previous one could not. Run the same path on every shortlisted source, whatever the channel.

One order for jars, wax and wicks

Jars are the bulkiest part of a candle order, but they are rarely the only part. Buying them from a source that also sells the wax, the oil, the wicks and the stickers removes a second delivery and a second invoice, and means one conversation when a batch goes wrong. Red flags before a bulk jar order

Most jar-sourcing disappointments were visible before the order was placed. These are the patterns to stop on, whichever channel you are buying from.
