A 25 Kg Wax Pack Is Cheaper per Kg than 10 Kg — How Do I Decide Whether the Savings Justify Spending More Cash Upfront?
Share
How big must the 25 kg discount be? Bigger than extra average stock × monthly holding rate ÷ monthly usage. Ordering 25 kg instead of 10 kg adds 7.5 kg of average stock. At an example 1.5% a month, that is 2.25% at 5 kg a month, 1.12% at 10 kg, 0.45% at 25 kg.
What is it worth in rupees? At 10 kg a month on CSI 464, a 25 kg quote 5% below the 10 kg rate saves ₹3,044.40 a year on wax and costs ₹684.99 a year in extra holding at the example rate: ₹2,359.41 net.
When should I say no even if it pays? When the extra cash on the day would starve something with a better return, such as jars for a confirmed order; when 25 kg is many months of wax for you; or when you cannot store it cool and dry. See cash on the day.
First, what is actually listed
CSI's listed soy and pillar waxes, pulled 24 September 2026, stop at 10 kg, with one exception. Here is every listed pack at 10 kg and above, with its price per kilo against the same wax's smaller bags.
| Wax | 5 kg | 10 kg | 50 kg | 25 kg | Is bigger cheaper per kg? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| CSI 464 | ₹2,537.00 (₹507.40) | ₹5,074.00 (₹507.40) | Not listed | Not listed | No |
| Luxury Soy Wax Chunks | ₹2,995.00 (₹599.00) | ₹5,999.00 (₹599.90) | Not listed | Not listed | No — 10 kg is ₹0.90 dearer than 2 × 5 kg |
| Coconut Soy CSI 468 | ₹3,185.00 (₹637.00) | ₹6,370.00 (₹637.00) | Not listed | Not listed | Only 1 kg → 5 kg (2.0%) |
| Soy Pillar Wax | ₹3,000.00 (₹600.00) | ₹6,000.00 (₹600.00) | Not listed | Not listed | No |
| Natural Soy Pearl | ₹2,124.00 (₹424.80) | ₹4,248.00 (₹424.80) | ₹21,240.00 (₹424.80) | Not listed | Only 1 kg → 5 kg (5.6%); 50 kg = 10 kg |
So on CSI's own list, no pack above 10 kg is cheaper per kilo than a 10 kg bag, and the 50 kg Natural Soy Pearl is the proof that bigger does not automatically mean cheaper. That is why the title's premise has to be checked, not assumed. If you have been quoted a 25 kg price, from CSI on WhatsApp or from another supplier, convert it to a price per kilo and compare it with the best listed per-kilo price of the same wax, not with the 1 kg price. A 25 kg quote at ₹520.00 a kilo for a CSI 464-type wax is not a discount at all against ₹507.40.
The break-even discount
Say you use U kilos of wax a month and currently buy 10 kg bags as you need them. With steady use, your average stock is 5 kg. If you switch to 25 kg orders, your average stock is 12.5 kg: 7.5 kg more wax on the shelf, all the time. That extra stock costs you its value × your monthly holding rate, every month. The discount saves you U × price × discount, every month. The two are equal when:
| Your use per month | At 1% a month | At 1.5% a month (example) | At 3% a month (cash is scarce) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 kg | 1.50% | 2.25% | 4.50% |
| 10 kg | 0.75% | 1.12% | 2.25% |
| 25 kg | 0.30% | 0.45% | 0.90% |
| 50 kg | 0.15% | 0.22% | 0.45% |
Read it from the bottom. At 50 kg a month, a 25 kg pack is two weeks of wax and any discount above 0.22% pays. At 5 kg a month, the same pack is five months on the shelf and needs more than 2.25% at the example rate, or 4.50% if cash is tight. The holding rate matters as much as usage: double it and every threshold doubles. I'm Using 10 Kg of Soy Wax Every Month — How Much Should I Order at Once so I Save on Cost Without Holding Unnecessary Inventory? uses the same holding-cost logic to set order size when there is no discount at all.
What a 25 kg quote is worth, in rupees
Percentages hide the size of the decision. Here is the net yearly effect of switching from 10 kg bags to 25 kg orders on a CSI 464-type wax priced at ₹507.40 a kilo in 10 kg, for hypothetical 25 kg quotes 2%, 5% and 8% below that rate. Net = yearly saving on wax − yearly cost of the extra 7.5 kg of average stock at the example 1.5% a month.
| Your use per month | Quote 2% below 10 kg rate | 5% below | 8% below | Break-even discount |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 kg (5.0 months per 25 kg) | -₹76.11 | ₹837.21 | ₹1,750.53 | 2.25% |
| 10 kg (2.5 months per 25 kg) | ₹532.77 | ₹2,359.41 | ₹4,186.05 | 1.12% |
| 25 kg (1.0 months per 25 kg) | ₹2,359.41 | ₹6,926.01 | ₹11,492.61 | 0.45% |
| 50 kg (0.5 months per 25 kg) | ₹5,403.81 | ₹14,537.01 | ₹23,670.21 | 0.22% |
At 10 kg a month and a 5% quote, the wax saving is ₹3,044.40 a year and the extra holding ₹684.99, so you keep ₹2,359.41. At 5 kg a month and a 2% quote, the saving is ₹608.88 against ₹684.99 of holding: -₹76.11, a small loss for five months of wax on the shelf. At 50 kg a month, even 2% is worth ₹5,403.81 a year. The quotes and the 25 kg prices they imply are the reader's, not CSI's: 2% off gives ₹12,431.30 for 25 kg, 5% off ₹12,050.75, 8% off ₹11,670.20, against ₹12,685.00 for two and a half 10 kg bags at the listed rate.
Cash on the day — when scarce cash says no
A 10 kg bag of CSI 464 is ₹5,074.00. A 25 kg order at 5% below that rate is ₹12,050.75: ₹6,976.75 more leaving your account on one day. For a business with spare cash, the holding rate captures this cost well enough. For a business where that cash is the difference between buying jars for a confirmed order or not, it does not. In that case the right holding rate is the return you would lose on the thing you cannot now buy, which can be far higher than any loan rate.
| Situation | Use per month | Quote | Holding rate used | Net yearly effect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spare cash in the bank | 10 kg | 5% below | 1.5% a month | ₹2,359.41 |
| Spare cash in the bank | 5 kg | 2% below | 1.5% a month | -₹76.11 |
| Cash needed for jars and oils | 5 kg | 2% below | 3% a month | -₹761.10 |
| Cash needed for jars and oils | 10 kg | 5% below | 3% a month | ₹1,674.42 |
Even at a high cash cost, the 10 kg-a-month maker still gains from a genuine 5% quote. The 5 kg-a-month maker loses on a 2% quote at either rate. The rule of thumb is simple: the less wax you use, the bigger the discount has to be, and the tighter your cash, the bigger again. CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. On a page about a cheaper 25 kg pack, the convenient thing for us would be to let you assume we sell one, or that our 50 kg pack carries a discount. We do not list a 25 kg soy wax pack, and our 50 kg Natural Soy Pearl costs the same per kilo as its 10 kg. This page says both plainly and gives you a test to apply to any quote, including ours.
Every wax price on this page is CSI live pricing, pulled on 24 September 2026. The 25 kg prices are hypothetical quotes expressed as 2%, 5% and 8% below the 10 kg rate; they are not CSI prices. Break-even discounts, net yearly savings and cash differences are arithmetic on those figures and the stated example holding rates, shown so you can check them.
The usage levels, the 1%, 1.5% and 3% a month holding rates and the steady-use assumption are examples, not facts about your business. Replace them with your own. For a 25 kg or larger per-kilo quote, GST invoicing or MSDS, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Non-price figures and assumptions: 25 kg prices are hypothetical quotes at 2%, 5% and 8% below the CSI 464 10 kg rate. Ordering 25 kg instead of 10 kg raises average stock from 5 kg to 12.5 kg under steady use. Holding rates of 1%, 1.5% and 3% a month are examples only. Break-even discount = 7.5 kg × monthly holding rate ÷ monthly usage. Storage notes are general practice. Fragrance-load ceilings (Chunks up to 13%, CSI 464 up to 10%) are the wax makers' stated maximums, not regulatory limits. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November.
