Best Fresh and Citrus Fragrance Oils for a Candle Business
Share
What does the line cost to stock? ₹35,024 of fragrance oil for 500 candles — an average of ₹70.05 of oil per 200 g candle, ranging from ₹45.52 on Citrus Lemon to ₹87.15 on Bergamot Amber.
What does one candle cost in materials? With Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at ₹507.40/kg, the wax is ₹93.36 per 200 g candle. Add the line's average oil cost and a ₹5.90 Eco Candle Wick and you are at ₹169.31 before the vessel.
Where do the listed packs run out? One kilogram is the largest fragrance pack CSI lists, and Mint Sandalwood has no 500 g pack at all — so 1.6 kg of it is one kilo plus six 100 g bottles. Anything beyond the listed packs is a WhatsApp quote, never a published price.

Five jobs a fresh and citrus line has to do
The commonest way a small brand wastes its first fragrance budget is by choosing five oils it likes and discovering they all do the same job. Three bright lemons on a shelf compete with each other; they do not add up to a range. A range works when each scent answers a different question a customer is already asking, and when the prices of the oils are spread widely enough that you can price the finished candles differently without lying about why.
| Role | The customer's question | What the oil must have | Oil budget per 200 g candle |
|---|---|---|---|
| Volume seller | "Something fresh, not too expensive" | The lowest per-gram price you can live with, and a published load | Under ₹50 |
| Spa / wellness | "Something for the bathroom or for winding down" | A clean, non-sweet profile and a stated 0% vanillin for white wax | ₹50–₹60 |
| Kitchen / workspace | "Something that cuts through cooking smells" | A green or herbal character and specific dosing guidance | ₹75–₹90 |
| Premium / gifting | "Something that feels like a present" | A base note with substance, and a page that documents it | ₹85–₹110 |
| Bridge scent | "I like your lemon — what else have you got?" | A fresh top over a warm heart, linking two families | ₹75–₹90 |
Those budgets are not arbitrary. They come from the spread that actually exists in CSI's fresh and citrus shelves: the cheapest oil in the group puts ₹45.31 of fragrance in a 200 g candle at 8% and the dearest in this guide puts ₹87.15. Anything above that — and the family goes as high as ₹191.98 with Tangerine — belongs in a limited edition or a larger-format candle, not in a five-SKU core range.
Every in-stock candidate, priced per candle
Before the five are chosen, here is the field. These are the in-stock fresh and citrus listings that a business could reasonably build a core range on, with the largest listed pack, the price per gram, and the oil cost inside a 200 g candle at 8%. Oils whose production pack sizes are currently unavailable are named and excluded, with the reason given.
| Oil | Largest listed pack | Per gram | Oil per 200 g candle @ 8% | Best-suited role |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Citrus Lemon | 1 kg ₹2,832 | ₹2.83 | ₹45.31 | Volume seller |
| Citronella | 1 kg ₹2,891 | ₹2.89 | ₹46.26 | Outdoor / balcony, or a second value citrus |
| Eucalyptus Spearmint | 1 kg ₹3,068 | ₹3.07 | ₹49.09 | Spa / wellness |
| Cucumber Green Tea | 1 kg ₹3,327.60 | ₹3.33 | ₹53.24 | Clean / green alternative to the spa slot |
| Zesty Lemon | 1kg ₹3,400 | ₹3.40 | ₹54.40 | White-wax minimal brand; second lemon |
| Verbena | 1 kg ₹4,720 | ₹4.72 | ₹75.52 | Herbal-lemon alternative to the kitchen slot |
| Blue Ocean | 1 kg ₹4,956 | ₹4.96 | ₹79.30 | Marine; a distinct fifth direction |
| Mint Sandalwood | 1kg ₹4,999 | ₹5 | ₹79.98 | Bridge into a woody range |
| Lemongrass and Lime | 1000 gm ₹5,200 | ₹5.20 | ₹83.20 | Kitchen / workspace |
| Bergamot Amber | 1 kg ₹5,437 | ₹5.44 | ₹86.99 | Premium / gifting |
| Juicy Orange | 1kg ₹7,499 | ₹7.50 | ₹119.98 | Premium orange; a larger-format candle |
| Grapefruit Oleo | 100g ₹341 (50g and 1kg sold out) | ₹3.41 | ₹54.56 | Excluded — no production pack available today |
| Freshwater | 100g ₹1,190 (15g, 50g, 500g and 1kg sold out) | ₹11.90 | ₹190.40 | Excluded — no production pack available today |
The costed five-scent line, pack by pack
Now the actual order. One hundred candles of 200 g per scent at an 8% load means 1,600 g of oil per scent and 18.4 kg of wax per scent. Fragrance is assembled from listed packs only — which is where the plan meets reality, because the ladders are not uniform.
| Scent | Role | Packs for 1.6 kg | Listed cost | Oil per 200 g candle |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Citrus Lemon | Volume seller | 1 kg ₹2,832 + 500 gm ₹1,420 + 100 gm ₹300 | ₹4,552 | ₹45.52 |
| Eucalyptus Spearmint | Spa / wellness | 1 kg ₹3,068 + 500 gm ₹1,652 + 100 gm ₹354 | ₹5,074 | ₹50.74 |
| Mint Sandalwood | Bridge scent | 1kg ₹4,999 + 6 × 100g ₹549 — no 500 g pack is listed | ₹8,293 | ₹82.93 |
| Lemongrass and Lime | Kitchen / workspace | 1000 gm ₹5,200 + 500 gm ₹2,600 + 100 gm ₹590 | ₹8,390 | ₹83.90 |
| Bergamot Amber | Premium / gifting | 1 kg ₹5,437 + 500 gm ₹2,718 + 100 gm ₹560 | ₹8,715 | ₹87.15 |
| Line total | 500 candles | 8 kg of fragrance oil | ₹35,024 | ₹70.05 average |
Two observations worth carrying into your own plan. First, the Mint Sandalwood row costs ₹8,293 for the same 1.6 kg that a straight kilo-and-a-half would price at ₹7,998.40 — a ₹294.60 premium caused purely by a missing pack size, and one you should notice before you commit rather than at checkout. Second, the cheapest and dearest scents in the line differ by ₹41.63 of oil per candle, which is the entire reason the line can support two price points. If you replaced Citrus Lemon with a second premium oil, the fragrance bill would rise by roughly ₹4,000 and your shelf would lose its entry product at the same time.
The four oils that need explaining
Citrus Lemon speaks for itself: it is the cheapest citrus gram in stock and it is in the line for exactly that reason. The other four need a sentence about why they earn their slot, and every pack in their ladders is shown so you can build a different quantity if your run is not 100 candles a scent — note that a 15 g row reads zero, because 15 g is under the 16 g a single 200 g candle needs.

What one candle costs, and what it has to sell for
Fragrance is one line in a candle's cost, and on a fresh range it is usually not the biggest. Here is the whole materials picture for a 200 g candle from this line, using listed prices for wax and wick and leaving the vessel as a variable — because most CSI jars state their capacity in millilitres rather than grams, and you should weigh one filled jar before you cost a range around it.
| Scent | Wax (184 g of CSI 464) | Oil (16 g at 8%) | Wick | Subtotal before vessel |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Citrus Lemon | ₹93.36 | ₹45.52 | ₹5.90 | ₹144.78 |
| Eucalyptus Spearmint | ₹93.36 | ₹50.74 | ₹5.90 | ₹150 |
| Mint Sandalwood | ₹93.36 | ₹82.93 | ₹5.90 | ₹182.19 |
| Lemongrass and Lime | ₹93.36 | ₹83.90 | ₹5.90 | ₹183.16 |
| Bergamot Amber | ₹93.36 | ₹87.15 | ₹5.90 | ₹186.41 |
| Line average | ₹93.36 | ₹70.05 | ₹5.90 | ₹169.31 |
Two things that table should change about your thinking. First, the wax is the largest single line on three of the five candles and the fragrance on the other two — so a brand that agonises over ₹2 a gram of oil while ignoring a ₹108 difference between wax choices is optimising the wrong number. Second, the spread between the cheapest and dearest candle in the line is ₹41.63 before the vessel, which comfortably supports two retail tiers. What those tiers should be is your decision and depends on your market, your packaging and your channel; this guide does not set retail prices, because CSI does not sell finished candles and has no business telling you what yours are worth.
Selling a fresh range across an Indian year
Citrus and fresh scents sell hardest in the hot months and quietest in the weeks when everyone is buying warm, sweet and spiced candles as gifts. That is not a reason to avoid the family — it is a reason to plan the year around it. With Diwali on 8 November 2026, a range built entirely on lemon and eucalyptus will meet the biggest gifting window of the Indian year with the wrong shelf, while a range that includes a bridge scent and a premium citrus has something to sell into it.
| Period | What sells from this line | What to do with the others |
|---|---|---|
| Summer, March to June | Citrus Lemon and Eucalyptus Spearmint — the two cheapest oils carry the busiest months | Push Lemongrass and Lime as the kitchen candle; hold premium stock |
| Monsoon, July to September | Lemongrass and Lime and Mint Sandalwood — green and grounded rather than sharp | Pour the Bergamot Amber gifting stock now so it cures for the festive window |
| Festive, October to November | Bergamot Amber at 10% and Mint Sandalwood — the two with substantial bases | Bundle a lemon candle into gift sets rather than selling it alone |
| Winter, December to February | Mint Sandalwood carries the range; Bergamot Amber at 10% still works | Run the lemons as a price-led pair; plan next summer's order |
Cure timing is the practical consequence. If Bergamot Amber is your festive SKU and Diwali is on 8 November, the jars want to be poured well before the end of October so they get a proper cure rather than a 48-hour minimum — soy container candles are commonly cured 14 to 21 days, and a gifting candle is the last one you want to rush. That means the fragrance for it should be on your shelf in early October at the latest. How early candle brands should order fragrance oils for Diwali works through the lead times, and best fragrance oils for Indian summers covers the other end of the year.
On the fade question, be straight with your customers and straight with yourself. The character that makes these oils read as fresh sits in the lightest, most volatile part of the composition, so a citrus candle's balance genuinely shifts between the open jar, the cured jar and the second burn. Nobody can sell you a citrus that behaves like a resin, and no page here publishes a longevity measurement. What you can do is buy the oils with a published base note — Lemongrass and Lime's cedarwood and musk, Bergamot Amber's woody musk and vanilla, Mint Sandalwood's sandalwood and amber — cure to the stated window and beyond, and describe the candle honestly on the care card. The full mechanism is in why citrus fragrances fade in candles.
Restocking, and the 1 kg ceiling
Once the line sells, the question changes from "what should I buy" to "how do I keep buying it". Three facts govern that at CSI, and all three are worth knowing before your second order rather than during it.
| Fact | What it means for a reorder |
|---|---|
| 1 kg is the largest listed fragrance pack | A 4 kg reorder of Citrus Lemon is four listed kilos at ₹11,328. That is a ceiling, not a quote |
| No volume discount is published on any fragrance page | Do not model a saving into your costings. Model the listed price and treat any better outcome as upside |
| No minimum order quantity is published | A 15 g bottle is a legitimate order. There is no threshold you have to clear to buy |
| Pack ladders differ per product | Mint Sandalwood has no 500 g; Orange no.3 has no 15 g or 500 g. Plan quantities around the sizes that exist |
| Sold-out sizes happen | Two otherwise good fresh oils cannot be bought in production packs today. Check before you promise a customer a restock |
| Scent | Oil for 200 candles (3.2 kg) | Built from listed packs | Listed cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Citrus Lemon | 3.2 kg | 3 × 1 kg + 1 × 100 gm + 1 × 100 gm | ₹9,096 |
| Eucalyptus Spearmint | 3.2 kg | 3 × 1 kg + 2 × 100 gm | ₹9,912 |
| Mint Sandalwood | 3.2 kg | 3 × 1kg + 2 × 100g | ₹16,095 |
| Lemongrass and Lime | 3.2 kg | 3 × 1000 gm + 2 × 100 gm | ₹16,780 |
| Bergamot Amber | 3.2 kg | 3 × 1 kg + 2 × 100 gm | ₹17,431 |
| Line total | 16 kg | — | ₹69,314 |
That last figure is the honest headline of this section: doubling the run does not lower the listed cost per candle. There is no published bulk tier to grow into, so the economics of your range improve through the wax, the vessel, the reject rate and the retail price rather than through the fragrance invoice. For recurring monthly supply, GST invoicing against a purchase order, or SDS and IFRA documentation to hand a stockist, the route is the WhatsApp bulk line on +91 7397976926 — and what any quote says is between you and that conversation, not something this page can forecast.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials; it does not make or sell finished candles, and it does not blend every oil it stocks. That is why this page tells you to spend ₹670.40 on samples before ₹35,024 on a line, and why it names two attractive fresh oils that you should not build a SKU on today because their production packs are sold out. A brand that launches a range it can restock keeps ordering; a brand that launches one it cannot stops making candles.
Every price, pack and specification comes from live CSI stock in September 2026 and links to the product page, which is always authoritative on current pricing and availability. Notes, loads, cure windows, vanillin figures and flash points are quoted in the pages' own words and only where the pages state them — two oils in this line publish a measured flash point and one publishes none. No throw measurement, burn-test result, longevity figure or shelf-life claim is published for any CSI oil, so none appears here. The retail tiers, margins and sell-through patterns are yours to set; we price materials, not finished products.

Loads are formulation limits, not regulatory limits. Candle maths assumes fragrance load as a percentage of finished candle weight (200 g at 8% = 184 g wax + 16 g oil; at 6% = 188 g + 12 g; at 10% = 180 g + 20 g). Line arithmetic: 100 candles × 16 g = 1,600 g per scent, 5 scents = 8,000 g; pack assemblies and totals are shown in the tables above and sum to ₹35,024, giving ₹70.05 per candle. Materials subtotal = ₹93.36 wax + oil + ₹5.90 wick. The 1,000-candle run is 200 candles × 16 g = 3,200 g per scent, 16 kg in total, ₹69,314, or ₹69.31 per candle. Sample flight = ₹81.42 + ₹68.44 + ₹116.52 + ₹105.02 + ₹299 = ₹670.40. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November 2026; a 14–21 day cure for soy container candles is standard practice.
