Fragrance Oil Buying Guides · Sandalwood
CSI stocks two sandalwood oils. At the kilogram they cost almost the same, but they get there completely differently: one kilogram saves you ₹491 against buying ten 100 g packs, and the other saves you nothing at all. Both numbers are below, with the arithmetic shown.
₹4,999–₹5,026.80
the two sandalwood kilograms · ₹4.999/g and ₹5.027/g · CSI live pricing, September 2026 · the linked product pages are authoritative
Quick answers — read this first
What does 1 kg of sandalwood fragrance oil cost at CSI? Two oils, two prices. Sandalwood Fragrance Oil is ₹5,026.80 per kg (₹5.027 a gram). Mint Sandalwood is ₹4,999 per kg (₹4.999 a gram). The gap between them at the kilogram is ₹27.80, or 0.55%.

Which kilogram is actually cheaper than buying smaller packs? Only Mint Sandalwood. Ten 100 g packs of it cost ₹5,490 against ₹4,999 for the kilogram — the kilogram saves ₹491, or 8.9%. Straight Sandalwood's kilogram costs ₹5,026.80 and two 500 g packs cost ₹5,026.80: a saving of exactly ₹0.

So should I buy the kilogram? For Mint Sandalwood, yes, if you will use it — it is the only pack priced below ₹5.49 a gram. For straight Sandalwood, buy 500 g twice instead unless one parcel and one batch code matter to you, because the price is identical and two packs keep your options open.

Is Mint Sandalwood the same scent? No. It is a mint-and-sandalwood blend, not a single-note sandalwood. Do not swap one for the other on a 55-paise-per-candle price difference.
The short answer
The two ladders: Sandalwood runs 15 g ₹93.22 · 50 g ₹271.40 · 100 g ₹502.68 · 500 g ₹2,513.40 · 1 kg ₹5,026.80. Mint Sandalwood runs 50 g ₹299 · 100 g ₹549 · 1 kg ₹4,999. Mint Sandalwood has no 15 g and no 500 g variant.
Where the money is: Mint Sandalwood's kilogram is 8.9% cheaper per gram than its 100 g pack. Straight Sandalwood is flat at ₹5.027 a gram from 100 g upwards — its only price step is between 50 g and 100 g.
The decision rule: 1 kg makes 50 candles of 200 g at a 10% load. If you will pour that within a few months, take the kilogram of Mint Sandalwood. For straight Sandalwood, order the size that matches the run in front of you — the per-gram price does not reward you for going bigger.
Rupees per gram by pack size — bars drawn to scale from ₹0, CSI live pricing September 2026 SANDALWOOD · ₹5,026.80 / kg · five pack sizes · FLAT FROM 100 g UP 15 g₹6.215 50 g₹5.428 100 g₹5.027 500 g₹5.027 1 kg₹5.027 no step: 100 g = 500 g = 1 kg MINT SANDALWOOD · ₹4,999 / kg · three pack sizes · NO 15 g, NO 500 g 50 g₹5.980 100 g₹5.490 1 kg₹4.999 the one real break in this cluster: ₹0.491/g off, 8.9%
Both ladders on one scale, measured from ₹0 a gram, so the lengths are directly comparable. Straight Sandalwood's bottom three bars are identical — 100 g, 500 g and 1 kg all cost ₹5.027 a gram, which is why its kilogram saves nothing against two 500 g packs. Mint Sandalwood has only three pack sizes and both steps are real: 50 g to 100 g takes ₹0.49 off the gram, and 100 g to 1 kg takes another ₹0.491 off. The thick rule at the bottom is the whole prize: ₹491 across a kilogram.
Straight answer
Should you buy sandalwood fragrance oil by the kilogram in India, and which of CSI's two oils rewards it?
Buy the kilogram of Mint Sandalwood; think twice about the kilogram of Sandalwood. Mint Sandalwood is ₹4,999 for 1 kg against ₹549 for 100 g, so ten small packs cost ₹5,490 and the kilogram saves ₹491, or 8.9% — the largest genuine volume break in CSI's commercial fragrance range. Straight Sandalwood is ₹5,026.80 for 1 kg and ₹2,513.40 for 500 g, so two 500 g packs also come to ₹5,026.80: the kilogram saves exactly ₹0. Ten 100 g packs at ₹502.68 come to ₹5,026.80 as well. On that oil the kilogram buys one parcel instead of two and one batch code instead of several — useful, but not a discount. A kilogram covers 50 candles of 200 g at a 10% load. If that is more than a few months of pouring, order 500 g of Sandalwood twice and keep the flexibility. Prices are CSI live pricing, September 2026; the product pages are authoritative.
One line: Mint Sandalwood's kilogram is the only sandalwood pack at CSI that is genuinely cheaper per gram — ₹491 off ten 100 g packs — while straight Sandalwood's kilogram costs the same ₹5,026.80 as two 500 g packs.
Not sure the profile suits your range? Sandalwood ships in a 15 g size at ₹93.22 — enough for one 150 g candle at 10%, or a pair of 70 g votives with a gram to spare. That is the cheapest way to find out before you commit ₹5,026.80.
Test 15 g first — ₹93.22

Both ladders, with the real prices

There are exactly two sandalwood oils in the CSI catalogue. They are not variants of one product, and their price ladders do not have the same rungs.

Bulk-buying advice assumes every oil comes in five sizes and that the biggest pack is cheapest per gram. Neither is true here. Sandalwood Fragrance Oil ships in all five sizes. Mint Sandalwood ships in three: 50 g, 100 g and 1 kg. There is no 15 g and no 500 g Mint Sandalwood. Any listing quoting you either of those is quoting a pack that does not exist.

Price, price per gram, and what each pack does to your order

500 g ₹2,513.40 ₹5.027 Not available —
1 kg ₹5,026.80 ₹5.027 ₹4,999.00 ₹4.999

Read the two per-gram columns down rather than across and each oil's shape is obvious. Sandalwood falls twice and then stops. From 15 g to 50 g the gram price drops from ₹6.215 to ₹5.428; from 50 g to 100 g, to ₹5.027; and then it sits there, at 500 g and at 1 kg alike. Every rupee of discount that oil has to offer has been given to you by the time you reach a 100 g bottle.

Mint Sandalwood falls twice as well, but the second fall is at the kilogram. ₹5.980 at 50 g, ₹5.490 at 100 g, ₹4.999 at 1 kg. It starts dearer than straight Sandalwood at both small sizes — 10.2% at 50 g, 9.2% at 100 g — and ends 0.55% cheaper at the kilogram. It is the only oil in this scent family whose largest pack is genuinely its cheapest per gram by a margin worth acting on.

There is no pack above 1 kg
CSI's fragrance-oil ladder stops at 1 kg. There is no 2 kg, 5 kg or 10 kg sandalwood SKU anywhere in the catalogue. Five kilograms of Sandalwood is five kilogram bottles at ₹5,026.80 — ₹25,134 — and ten is ₹50,268. Five kilograms of Mint Sandalwood is 5 × ₹4,999 = ₹24,995; ten is ₹49,990. The website price does not fall automatically above one kilogram. Buying at that level, ask on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926 — we publish no bulk slab, no MOQ and no credit terms.

What ₹491 buys you, and what ₹0 buys you

A volume break is only real if the larger pack costs less per gram than the smaller one. On one of these two oils it does. On the other it does not, and no amount of reframing changes that.

Here is the comparison in full. It takes thirty seconds to check against the product pages yourself.

The honest reading of the Sandalwood row. ₹502.68 × 10 = ₹5,026.80. ₹2,513.40 × 2 = ₹5,026.80. ₹5,026.80 × 1 = ₹5,026.80. We sell the kilogram and would prefer you bought it, but if your reason for considering it is the price per gram, there is no reason. Buy 500 g, pour a run, see how the scent sells, and buy the second 500 g when you know. Two half-kilos cost the same as one kilo and leave you able to change your mind — worth more, for a brand still deciding whether sandalwood belongs in its range, than the ₹0 you would have saved.

What that kilogram does buy is two conveniences, worth naming precisely. The first is one parcel instead of two, useful when consolidating a Diwali order against a single GST invoice. The second is one batch: a kilogram bottle is filled from one batch, while two packs ordered weeks apart need not be, and holding the batch constant removes a variable from a comparison that already has too many. Neither is a discount. Both are real.

The ₹491 on Mint Sandalwood, by contrast, is money. Spread across the fifty 200 g candles a kilogram makes at a 10% load, it is ₹9.82 off the fragrance line of every candle — ₹99.98 at kilogram pricing against ₹109.80 at 100 g pricing. Across ten kilograms and a 500-candle festive run, ₹4,910 stays in the business. It exists because Mint Sandalwood has no 500 g step in the middle to soften the fall.

The CSI principle
A bigger pack is a discount only when the per-gram price falls. Otherwise it is a logistics decision wearing a discount's clothes.
Divide the pack price by the grams before you order. It settles the question for every oil on the site — including the ones where the kilogram changes nothing.

How many candles a kilogram makes, and what the fragrance costs per candle

A kilogram is 1,000 g of oil, and how far it goes depends on two numbers you control: finished candle weight and fragrance load. CSI states load as a percentage of total finished candle weight, so a 200 g candle at 8% is 16 g of oil and 184 g of wax, not 16 g on top of 200 g. Getting that convention wrong is the commonest cause of an order that is 10% too small.

Twelve combinations, with the candle count rounded down to whole candles because a part-poured jar is not a product. Fragrance cost per candle is at kilogram pricing for each oil.

Check your wax before you use the 13% rows. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are stated by the wax maker to take fragrance up to 13%. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is stated up to 10%, so the 13% rows do not apply to it. These are formulation limits set by the wax manufacturer — the maximum oil that wax holds in solution — not regulatory limits. Past the ceiling the surplus does not bind: it separates, sweats to the surface and drowns the wick.

Two things fall out of the table. First, the per-candle difference between the two oils never exceeds about a rupee at kilogram pricing, and at the commonest commercial format — 200 g at 10% — it is 56 paise, or ₹278 across a 500-candle run. Choosing between a single note and a blend on 56 paise is optimising the wrong line.

The second is scale. At 200 g and 10% a kilogram is fifty candles; at 100 g and 8% it is 125. Work out which row you live on before deciding whether a kilogram is a bulk purchase or a routine restock, and read how much fragrance oil a candle business needs for the annual number.

The monthly volume that justifies a kilogram

The threshold is not the same for both oils, because only one of them pays you to cross it.

Take the standard commercial format: a 200 g candle at a 10% load, 20 g of oil each, so one kilogram is fifty candles. How quickly you will pour fifty decides the pack.

Break-even by oil · 200 g candle at 10% load, 20 g of oil per candle
What each pack costs you per candle, and where the pack should change
Oil Buying 50 g Buying 100 g Buying 500 g Buying 1 kg Where the saving is
Sandalwood ₹108.56 ₹100.54 ₹100.54 ₹100.54 Entirely between 50 g and 100 g: ₹8.02 a candle. Nothing after that.
Mint Sandalwood ₹119.60 ₹109.80 No such pack ₹99.98 ₹9.80 a candle at 100 g, then a further ₹9.82 at 1 kg.

For straight Sandalwood the monthly threshold is five candles, and then it disappears. One hundred grams is five 200 g candles at 10%, so from the sixth candle onwards you should buy 100 g rather than 50 g — that is where the entire discount lives, ₹8.02 per candle or 7.4% of the fragrance line. After that nothing changes. At six candles a month or six hundred, the oil costs ₹5.027 a gram, and the choice between 100 g, 500 g and 1 kg is only about order frequency and cash tied up in stock.

For Mint Sandalwood the threshold is real, and it is the kilogram. With no middle pack, the jump from ₹5.49 a gram to ₹4.999 happens in one move and costs ₹4,999 to make. The rule is turnover, not price: if you will pour fifty 200 g candles of that scent within three months — about seventeen a month — the kilogram is the right pack. Stretched over six months that is about nine a month, still defensible for a permanent line you are happy to hold as stock. Below that, buy 100 g at a time and revisit when the scent has earned its place.

Storage is the other half of the threshold
A kilogram you cannot store properly is not cheaper than ten 100 g packs. Keep fragrance oil tightly capped, upright, out of direct sunlight and away from heat, in its original container. Decant into a smaller amber bottle for bench use so the main bottle stays closed, and write the invoice date and batch on it the day it arrives. The recommended storage period for the batch you receive is stated in its documentation — ask for the MSDS and IFRA paperwork on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926 rather than trusting a number from a blog post. A weighing scale at ₹354 matters more at kilogram scale: eyeballing a pour from a large bottle is how a 10% recipe quietly becomes 12%.

A 200 g candle, costed line by line

Fragrance is the line makers argue about and rarely measure against the rest of the build. Here is a complete 200 g container candle at a 10% load, every line at CSI live pricing, September 2026, with Mint Sandalwood at kilogram pricing.

Fragrance is ₹99.98 of ₹274.88, or 36.4% of the material cost. Swap in straight Sandalwood at kilogram pricing and the fragrance line becomes ₹100.54, the total ₹275.44, and fragrance 36.5%. That is the whole difference between the two oils on a finished candle: 56 paise, a tenth of a percentage point of the bill. Moving from a 100 g pack to the kilogram of Mint Sandalwood saves ₹9.82 a candle — about eighteen times more — and the vessel is worth more still, at ₹70.80 or 25.8% of the build.

Priced above: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 ₹507.40/kg, stated ceiling up to 10% · Luxury Soy Wax Chunks ₹599/kg, stated ceiling up to 13% · Black Matte Glass Jar ₹708 per 10 · Eco Candle Wicks Thick C2 ₹944 per 100 and Thin C1 ₹590 per 100 (₹5.90 each) · Clear Glass Votive Jar 70 g ₹159.30 per 5 (₹31.86 each) · Pen Thermometer ₹354. Check the fill capacity of your chosen vessel against your pour weight before standardising on it — the vessel is the most variable line here, from ₹21.24 each for Mini Glass Jars in hundreds to ₹107 for a 150 g jar with a lid.

Blend versus single note — and when to buy neither

Mint Sandalwood is cheaper at the kilogram. It is also not the same smell, and that matters more than ₹27.80.

Say this plainly, because the arithmetic pushes one way and the product does not. Mint Sandalwood is a blend. The name is the specification: mint sits over the sandalwood, giving a cooler, fresher reading of the note that sells very differently. Sandalwood Fragrance Oil is the straight single-note profile — the warm, dry, woody register Indian customers associate with puja, Diwali hampers and wedding gifting.

If your sandalwood candle is doing the traditional job — a festive line, a gifting range, a customer who asks for chandan by name — do not substitute the blend for the single note to save 56 paise a candle. You would save ₹278 across a 500-candle run and risk the reorder the run exists to generate. The reverse holds: if mint over sandalwood is the profile you want, the blend is the right oil and the ₹491 is a bonus.

The case for buying neither kilogram yet. CSI stocks 92 fragrance oils and exactly two are sandalwood — a narrow shelf. If neither is clearly the sandalwood your customers are asking for, the correct order is not a kilogram. It is 15 g of straight Sandalwood at ₹93.22, enough for one 150 g candle at 10% or two 70 g votives with a gram left over. Pour it, cure it, burn it, show it to three customers. ₹93.22 and three weeks beats ₹5,026.80 and a cupboard. Mint Sandalwood has no 15 g size, so the smallest honest test of the blend is the 50 g at ₹299 — 3.2 times the Sandalwood trial, and a reason to test the single note first.

One more thing worth being straight about: if your constraint is cost per candle rather than the sandalwood note itself, neither oil is where you should be looking. Woody Oud at ₹4,531.20 a kilogram sits in the same warm, base-heavy territory at ₹4.531 a gram — 9.9% less than Sandalwood, or ₹9.91 less on a 200 g candle at 10%. British Rose at ₹3,068 a kilogram and Citrus Lemon at ₹2,832 are cheaper still, doing a different job on the shelf. We say so on a page written to sell you a kilogram of sandalwood because a maker who buys the wrong oil in bulk does not come back. For the wider comparison, see premium versus cheap fragrance oils and the 2026 round-up.

1
Decide the profile before you decide the packSingle-note or blend. This is a brand decision, not a costing one: the 0.55% gap at the kilogram is too small to influence it. Smell both — the 15 g of Sandalwood and the 50 g of Mint Sandalwood together cost ₹392.22.
2
Fix the candle format and the loadWeight and load set your grams per candle and therefore your yield: a 200 g candle at 10% is 20 g. Confirm the load sits inside your wax's stated ceiling — up to 10% on CSI 464, up to 13% on Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, both the wax maker's formulation limits.
3
Work out how long a kilogram lasts youDivide 1,000 by your grams per candle, then by your monthly output. Fifty 200 g candles at 10% is two months at twenty-five a month, eight months at six. Beyond about six months of cover it is stock, not supply.
4
Then, and only then, pick the packMint Sandalwood: the kilogram if you clear it inside six months, 100 g if not. Sandalwood: 100 g or larger, size chosen on convenience, because ₹5.027 a gram applies from 100 g up. Keep the GST invoice with the batch note, so you can trace performance back to a purchase.
The kilogram is the right pack when you will pour it, not when the label says kilogram.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. On a page titled "buy 1 kg" the commercially convenient line would be that the kilogram is always the cheaper buy. It is not. On Sandalwood Fragrance Oil the kilogram saves exactly ₹0 against two 500 g packs and exactly ₹0 against ten 100 g packs, and we have put that in the first screen rather than the small print. We would rather lose a kilogram order than have a maker discover the arithmetic afterwards.

Every price here is a live CSI variant price pulled in September 2026 and links to the product page, where current pricing and specification take precedence. Where a pack size does not exist — no 15 g and no 500 g Mint Sandalwood, and no fragrance-oil pack above 1 kg anywhere in the catalogue — we say so rather than quoting an approximation. The ceilings of up to 13% for Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and up to 10% for Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 are the wax manufacturer's stated formulation limits, not regulatory limits, and they are not interchangeable between waxes.

CSI carries 92 fragrance oils, two of them sandalwood. We supply GST invoicing on every order and MSDS and IFRA documentation on request, including storage guidance for the batch you receive. For quantities above one kilogram, documentation, or help matching a wick to a jar diameter, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926. We publish no bulk discount slab, no minimum order quantity and no credit terms, so nothing here promises one.

Frequently asked questions

How much is 1 kg of sandalwood fragrance oil in India at CSI?
Two oils, two prices. Sandalwood Fragrance Oil is ₹5,026.80 for 1 kg (₹5.027 a gram). Mint Sandalwood is ₹4,999 for 1 kg (₹4.999 a gram). The difference is ₹27.80, or 0.55%. CSI live pricing, September 2026; the product pages are authoritative.
Is buying 1 kg cheaper than buying smaller packs?
Only for Mint Sandalwood. Ten 100 g packs of Mint Sandalwood cost ₹5,490 and the kilogram costs ₹4,999, so the kilogram saves ₹491, or 8.9% — about ₹9.82 on the fragrance line of every 200 g candle poured at 10%. For straight Sandalwood the kilogram saves nothing: ten 100 g packs at ₹502.68 come to ₹5,026.80, two 500 g packs at ₹2,513.40 come to ₹5,026.80, and the kilogram is ₹5,026.80. Its only price step is between 50 g and 100 g.
How many candles will 1 kg of sandalwood fragrance oil make?
It depends on candle weight and load, because CSI states load as a percentage of total finished candle weight. At a 200 g candle and a 10% load — 20 g each — one kilogram makes 50 candles; at 200 g and 8%, 62; at 100 g and 8%, 125; at 300 g and 10%, 33. The full twelve-row table is above.
Does CSI sell a 5 kg or 10 kg pack of sandalwood fragrance oil?
No. The fragrance-oil ladder stops at 1 kg; no 2 kg, 5 kg or 10 kg pack exists in the catalogue. Five kilograms of Sandalwood is 5 × ₹5,026.80 = ₹25,134, ten is ₹50,268. Mint Sandalwood: 5 × ₹4,999 = ₹24,995, ten ₹49,990. The website price does not drop automatically above a kilogram — ask on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926. We publish no slab, rate or MOQ.
Is Mint Sandalwood a substitute for ordinary sandalwood fragrance oil?
Not as a like-for-like swap. Mint Sandalwood is a blend, mint over sandalwood, cooler and fresher than the single note. Sandalwood Fragrance Oil is the straight warm, dry, woody profile most Indian customers mean by chandan. The difference at kilogram pricing is 56 paise on a 200 g candle at 10% — far too small to justify changing a scent your customers already buy. Choose on profile.
What is the smallest amount of sandalwood oil I can test before committing to a kilogram?
15 g of Sandalwood at ₹93.22 — one 150 g candle at 10%, or two 70 g votives with a gram to spare. Mint Sandalwood has no 15 g size, so its smallest pack is the 50 g at ₹299, 3.2 times the Sandalwood trial. Cure the test candle before judging it: woody oils are still improving at three weeks, and judging at 48 hours is how good oils get blamed for weak throw.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on their product pages. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me; three longer reviews are shortened with an ellipsis and are otherwise unedited. Only reviews Judge.me records as verified carry the "Verified buyer" line — five of the six do; Emma Bechara's does not and is shown without the badge. One review is for Sandalwood Fragrance Oil itself (Reena Bagal, 5★, October 2025) and one is for Sacred Sandal Ember, a different sandal-family oil that is not priced on this page (Urvashi Patel, 4★, August 2026). The remaining four are for Woody Oud, Gardenia, Gilli Mitti (Patchouli) and British Rose. No published review exists for Mint Sandalwood. No city or location is shown for any review because Judge.me does not store one.
