CSI Buying Guides · Soy Wax
Six fields on a listing, one kilogram in a box, and twenty-one days before you are allowed an opinion. This is the walkthrough from open tab to first order, priced line by line.
₹1,854.60
a complete first soy order — 1 kg of wax, three wick sizes, 50 g of fragrance, a thermometer and a scale · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
What should a first soy wax order actually contain? One kilogram of one named grade, three wick sizes, one 50 g fragrance, a pen thermometer and a weighing scale. At CSI live pricing that is ₹1,854.60, of which the wax is ₹507.40.
Why one kilogram and not ten? On most CSI soy grades ten kilograms costs exactly the same per kilogram as one. CSI 464 is ₹507.40/kg at 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg. Volume buys freight efficiency, not a lower unit price.
How soon can I judge the wax? Not before day 21 after the pour. A day-7 burn test tells you about the wick; hot throw is not readable until the cure is done.
What does the listing not tell me? Melt point, congealing point and a fixed transit time are not on the product page. Ask for the spec sheet at order time — supplied on request, free.
The short answer
Read six fields: grade name, container-or-pillar formulation, stated fragrance ceiling, pour band, pack size and stock status. Anything the listing does not state, ask for before you pay.
Buy one kilogram, not ten.Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at ₹507.40/kg, three wick sizes, one 50 g oil, thermometer and scale — ₹1,854.60 all in.
Then wait. Pour on arrival, burn-test at day 7 for wick behaviour, read hot throw at day 14 at the earliest, deliver the verdict at day 21. Only then scale up.
One kilogram is the smallest quantity that survives this sequence intact: enough jars to test three wick sizes, with wax left over. Ten kilograms buys the same information at ten times the exposure, because the gate at day 21 does not open earlier for a bigger order.
How do you buy soy wax online in India without wasting the first order?
Read the listing for six fields — grade name, container or pillar formulation, stated fragrance ceiling, pour band, pack size and stock status — then buy one kilogram of one grade. For container candles that is Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at ₹507.40/kg; for pillars and moulds it is Soy Pillar Wax at ₹600/kg. Add three wick sizes so the wax has a fair chance, one 50 g fragrance, a pen thermometer and a weighing scale: ₹1,854.60 in total. Then wait. Pour on arrival, burn-test at day 7 for pool timing and wick behaviour, read hot throw at day 14 at the earliest, and only pass judgement at day 21. Which grade suits your candle is a separate decision; whether the supplier deserves the order is another; the volume economics live in the wholesale matrix. This page is the mechanics of the order itself.
One line: one kilogram, three wick sizes, one oil, a thermometer and a scale — ₹1,854.60 — and then twenty-one days of not touching it.
The wax is the cheapest line on the order. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is ₹507.40 for 1 kg, and identical per-kilogram at 5 kg and 10 kg — so the small pack costs you nothing in unit price. Eco Soy CSI 400 at ₹399/kg is the cheapest soy in the catalogue if the budget is tight.
A wax listing is not a description. It is a specification with some of the fields left blank, and the blanks are where the money goes.
You cannot smell a product page. What you can do is read the listing the way a buyer reads a purchase order — field by field, noting what is stated and what is absent. Six fields decide whether the wax in that tab will do the job you have in mind. Knowing which are published and which you have to ask for is most of the skill.
1
Grade name — and whether it is a real grade or a category"Soy wax" is a category. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, Eco Soy CSI 400 and Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 are grades: named formulations that should behave in your next batch as they did in this one. A listing that only says "soy wax, natural, for candles" tells you nothing you can reorder against. On CSI listings the grade number sits in the product title, so you can quote it on a repeat order without ambiguity.
2
Container or pillar — the one mistake you cannot pour your way out ofContainer wax is formulated to cling to glass. Pillar wax shrinks slightly, hardens fully and drops out of a mould. They are not interchangeable in either direction, and CSI states which is which in the product title: CSI 464 (Flakes) For Container Candles against Soy Pillar Wax (for Pillar & Designer Candles). If your first order is for jars and the title says pillar, close the tab.
3
Stated fragrance ceiling — published on two grades, not on allThis is where honesty matters more than marketing. CSI publishes a manufacturer-stated fragrance load ceiling of up to 13% on Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and up to 10% on Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464. These are wax formulation limits set by the wax maker, not regulatory limits, and they are not interchangeable between grades. For the other soy grades there is no published ceiling on the page — you ask, and it comes back on the spec sheet. Do not assume 10% carries across; a wax that cannot hold what you pour into it will sweat it back out three weeks later.
4
Pour band — the temperature window the wax expectsEco Soy CSI 400 specifies adding fragrance at 80–90°C with two minutes of stirring, and CSI 464 states melt and pour in the same 80–90°C band. That is why a pen thermometer at ₹354 is on the first order and not the third: without it you are guessing at the one variable the wax maker specified. If the band is not on the listing, it is on the spec sheet.
5
Pack size — and the per-kilogram maths behind itCSI soy grades ship in 500 g, 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg, with Natural Soy Pearl Wax going to a 50 kg sack. The listing shows the pack price, not the per-kilogram price, so you work it out — and on most grades it barely moves. The full table is below.
6
Stock status — read it per variant, not per productStock is set on the variant, not the product, so a wax can be live on the 5 kg option and out on the 500 g. On the September 2026 pull, Soy Wax 464 Pellets was the only soy grade fully out of stock across every size, and it is still listed. A listed product is not a buyable product. Check the pack size you intend to order before planning a batch around it; if it is out, message on WhatsApp rather than substituting a grade you have never poured.
What the listing does not tell you — stated plainly. CSI product pages do not publish a melt point, a congealing point, an oil-retention figure or a batch number, and they do not publish a fixed transit time to your pin code. None of those are hidden; they are simply not on the page. Melt point, congealing point and pour band come on the spec sheet, supplied on request, with MSDS and IFRA documentation where it applies. Transit depends on pin code and courier, and any supplier quoting a guaranteed national delivery window on a product page is quoting a marketing number. Ask for the spec sheet at order time and you will have it before the wax arrives. Full checklist: how to verify wax quality before you buy in India.
The first order, built and itemised
Here is the order. Not everything you will eventually need — the smallest basket that produces a defensible answer to "does this wax work for my candle". Every line is on the store at the price shown, September 2026, and every line earns its place by removing one variable from the test.
The first soy order · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Seven lines, one grade, three wick sizes — ₹1,854.60
Fragrance load is a weight percentage. Millilitres will not reproduce a batch. Stock was low — two units — on the September pull
Order total
7 lines
₹1,854.60
Excluding GST and delivery, both of which are set at checkout
Two lines on that order are equipment and never need buying again. Strip the thermometer and scale out and the consumable part of the test is ₹1,146.60 — the wax, three wick sizes and the oil. On a second grade test you already own the tools and the spare C2 wicks, so it is a kilogram of wax and an oil. That is the running cost of never guessing about a wax again.
The argument for one kilogram
One kilogram of soy wax costs ₹507.40. One pack of ten 150 g jars with golden lids costs ₹944.00.
The wax is cheaper than the glass you would pour it into. A test that discovers the grade is wrong costs ₹507.40 and three weeks. A production batch that discovers it after you have filled ten jars costs ₹944.00 in glass alone — before the wax, the oil, the wicks, the labels and the day you spent pouring. We would rather sell you one kilogram now than ten you resent.

Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (Flakes)
Flake form, formulated for single-pour container candles, with a manufacturer-stated fragrance ceiling of up to 10% and a melt-and-pour band of 80–90°C. It is the grade most first-time CSI buyers start on, and it is the cheapest per kilogram of the three flagship container soys. Note the pricing: the per-kilogram figure is identical at 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg. Only the 500 g pack carries a premium, at ₹520/kg.

Wicks · the three-size bracket
Three wick sizes, ₹367.80 the set
Ordering one wick size with a new wax is the most common way to waste a test. If that size tunnels, you have learned that the wick is wrong, not that the wax is fine — and you will spend another three weeks finding out. Buy a bracket: one clearly thin, one clearly thick, one of a different construction. Pour identical jars and light them side by side.
Put the containers you intend to sell in on this order, not a later one. The wick that works in a 150 g jar is not necessarily the wick that works in yours, and a second parcel means a second delivery charge on a heavy product. The container range runs from ₹21.24 a unit in bulk packs upward, and consolidating is the biggest lever you have over freight.
Every soy grade CSI sells, with pack sizes and ₹ per kilogram
The whole soy shelf in one place, sorted cheapest per kilogram first, with the per-kilogram figure worked out for every pack. Which grade suits your candle is a different question, and the economics of buying at genuine volume are in the wholesale matrix. This table is here so you can see the ladder before you climb it.
CSI soy & soy-blend range · live pricing, September 2026

₹761.10 · ₹743.40
Read the right-hand column again, because it is the least commercially convenient fact on this page. On most CSI soy grades, buying ten kilograms does not lower your per-kilogram price at all. CSI 464 is ₹507.40/kg at 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg. Soy Pillar Wax is ₹600.00/kg at every pack size including the 500 g. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks is fractionally cheaper per kilogram in the 500 g pack — ₹598.00 against ₹599.90 at 10 kg. Eco Soy CSI 400 is ₹399.00/kg at 1 kg and ₹399.20/kg at 5 kg, so the bigger bag is a rounding error dearer.
There are exactly two genuine per-kilogram breaks in the range. Natural Soy Pearl Wax drops from ₹450.00/kg to ₹424.80/kg from 5 kg upward — about 5.6%, holding to the 50 kg sack. Coconut Soy CSI 468 drops from ₹650.00/kg to ₹637.00/kg from 5 kg, about 2%. Everywhere else, the reason to buy the big bag is that you have already decided you need it.
What scale actually saves you. Not the wax price. Freight, handling and your own time. A 10 kg order in one carton costs one delivery charge rather than ten; a 50 kg sack of Natural Soy Pearl Wax at ₹21,240.00 is one purchase decision for a quarter of production. Those are real savings — they are just not unit-price savings, and it is better you hear that here than find it on the invoice. One CSI customer, Dipali Sable, put it directly in a published review: "Quality is good. Packaging was done right. Hope to get some discount in future for bulk buys". The table above is why that is a fair request.
Do not order ten kilograms of a grade you have not poured. On most of our soy range it does not even save you money.
— CandleMakingSuppliesIndia
Timing the order against cure — what you buy today cannot be judged for three weeks
The wax arrives in days. The answer arrives in weeks. Almost every planning mistake in candle making comes from confusing the two.
A soy container candle does not reach its finished state when it solidifies. The crystal structure keeps settling and the fragrance keeps distributing through it for weeks after the pour. That is why a candle burn-tested at forty-eight hours reads weak, and why the maker who judges at forty-eight hours blames the wax, orders a different grade and repeats the mistake on a new kilogram. Fourteen days is the minimum for a soy container candle; woody, gourmand and oriental families keep improving to twenty-one. Build the calendar around twenty-one and you will never be wrong.
1
Order day — not day zeroThe clock does not start when you pay. It starts when the box lands, and transit depends on your pin code and the courier. CSI does not publish a guaranteed national delivery window and we will not invent one here. If you have a hard deadline, confirm dispatch on WhatsApp rather than assuming.
2
Arrival day — inspect, weigh, then pourThis is day zero. Check the bag before you open it, weigh it, and pour the same day or the next if you can. A kilogram sitting in a cupboard for a fortnight while you find time is a fortnight added to every date below.
3
Pour day — three jars, three wicks, one oil, one gradeIdentical jars, fill weight, fragrance load and pour temperature. The only thing that differs is the wick. Write the wick size on the base of each jar before you pour — you will not remember on day twenty-one, and a mislabelled test is a wasted test.
4
Days 1–2 — cold throw only, no verdictLook at the tops. Frosting, sink holes, wet spots against the glass and surface texture are all readable now and will not change much. Smell the unlit jar and write it down — that is your cold throw baseline. Do not light anything.
5
Day 7 — the first burn test, for the wick and nothing elseLight all three side by side and time them: how long each takes to reach a full melt pool at the vessel wall, whether the flame soots or mushrooms, whether the pool is level. Two to three hours to a full pool with a clean flame is the target. Draw no conclusion about fragrance strength today. The candle is a third of the way through its cure.
6
Day 14 — the earliest honest hot throw readBurn the winning wick for two hours in a closed room of known size with nothing else scented in it. A fresh or citrus oil is usually settled by now; a base-heavy oil like the Sandalwood on the test order is not, and will still be gaining.
7
Day 21 — the verdict, and only nowFull cure. Burn again, same room, same protocol. Now you know whether the grade holds the load, throws in your jar, finishes cleanly and burns at the rate your price assumes. Scale up on day twenty-two, or change exactly one variable and run it again.
Working back from Diwali, 8 November 2026. For cured, sellable stock in hand on 8 November, the production pour must happen by 18 October to clear a full twenty-one-day cure. For that pour to use a grade you have verified, the test pour must clear its own twenty-one-day gate by 18 October — putting it on or before 27 September, roughly a fortnight from now. Miss it and you are not choosing between grades any more, you are pouring a festive range on a wax you have never seen cured. The same arithmetic applies to fragrance, which is why oils get ordered even earlier.
One practical consequence: order the test kilogram of your second-choice grade at the same time as your first — ₹1,106.40 for one kilogram each of CSI 464 and Luxury Soy Wax Chunks. Run both in parallel and you have compared two grades inside the same three weeks, for one delivery charge. Sequentially it costs six weeks and two. This is the one place where buying more wax up front is right, and it is a matter of weeks, not rupees.
Receiving the wax, the freight problem, and the paperwork to ask for
Wax is a heavy, low-value-density, temperature-sensitive product moving through the Indian courier network. Three of those four words are problems. Here is what to do when the box arrives, what to do if the weather got to it, and how to keep the freight bill off your margin.
Goods-in check · four minutes, before you sign or open
What to look at, in order
Check
Pass
What a fail means
Seal
Inner bag sealed and intact, no split seams, no wax dust loose in the carton
A torn bag means contamination risk and a short weight. Photograph it before you touch anything else
Weight
Net weight on the scale matches the pack you ordered
Short weight is the one problem that is unambiguous and easy to evidence. Weigh the bag, not the carton
Texture
Flakes are flakes, pearls are pearls, chunks break cleanly. Consistent through the bag, not just at the top
A fused or partly fused mass means heat exposure in transit — see below. Fine powder at the bottom is normal handling
Colour and smell
Uniform off-white to cream, faint neutral smell
Yellowing in patches, a rancid or sour note, or visible oil separation point at age or storage, not transit. Raise it immediately
Melting or clumping
No free oil in the bag, no wax welded to the plastic, no oily residue on the carton
Transit heat. Not a spoilage event, but it needs a decision before you pour — see below
Invoice
GST invoice with your GSTIN if you gave one, correct grade, correct pack size, correct HSN
Fix it now. An invoice reissued three weeks later is a bookkeeping problem you do not need
If it arrives soft in an Indian summer
Soy softens well below its melt point, and a carton sitting in a delivery van in an Indian May will get there. Softening and clumping is a physical change, not a chemical one. If the bag is sealed, no oil has separated out and there is no rancid smell, the wax is still the wax — melting it to your pour temperature resets the crystal structure entirely, which is what you were going to do anyway. Let it return to room temperature slowly rather than shocking it in a fridge, then break it up and use it. What is not acceptable: a split bag, free oil pooled in the packaging, a sour smell, or wax fused to the plastic. Photograph everything before you disturb it and send it through on WhatsApp the same day. Between April and June, ordering to an address where someone can take the box indoors immediately does more good than any packaging a courier will give you.
Now the freight. It is the most consistent criticism CSI receives, and it belongs here in full rather than buried. Manasa GN, a verified buyer, wrote on Premium Coconut Soy Wax: "The products are great and of premium quality. I am a permanent customer and will be … but the delivery charges are very high which is restricting me to purchase more…". Mahak agarwal, writing about Soy Pillar Wax, put it the same way: "the quality of luxury soy wax and pillar candle wax is very good, and the packaging is also nice and clean… And yes their shipment charges were too higb for me! Other wise the quality is top noch". Two customers, two years apart, both happy with the wax and both flagging the same line on the invoice.
The mechanism is not complicated. Freight on wax is charged by weight, and wax is nothing but weight. A kilogram of soy is a kilogram of soy whether it costs ₹399 or ₹1,097, and the courier charges the same to move it. On a ₹507.40 kilogram of CSI 464 the delivery line is a visible fraction of the order; on a ₹5,074 ten-kilogram order the same per-kilogram freight is a much smaller share. This is why the wax price per kilogram barely moves with volume but the landed cost per kilogram drops sharply — the saving from buying bigger is almost entirely a freight saving, and it is real.
What you can actually do about it, in order of effect. One: consolidate. One parcel with wax, wicks, fragrance and jars costs less than four parcels with one category each — if you need jars and oils this month, buy them with the wax. Two: step up the pack size once you have tested. Four separate 1 kg orders become one 5 kg order — four delivery charges collapsed into one, on a product where the wax price per kilogram is identical either way. Three: order monthly against a production plan rather than twice a week because you ran out. Four: for large orders, ask. Bulk pricing and consolidated dispatch are handled on WhatsApp, and it is worth a message before you build the basket.
Two things go in the order message and both are free. The GST invoice: give your GSTIN at checkout so it is issued against your business from the start. Input credit on raw materials is a real line in candle economics, and that same invoice is what you point at when a customer, a marketplace or an auditor asks what is in your candle — so get the grade name, pack size and HSN right on day one. The spec sheet: ask in the same message as the order, not after the wax arrives. It carries the melt point, congealing point, pour band and stated fragrance ceiling for the exact grade you bought, and MSDS and IFRA documentation come with it on request. Requested at order time it reaches you while the wax is in transit; chased in week three it arrives after you have poured. A supplier who will not send one has told you something useful about the supplier, for free.
Who this order is for. A maker moving from a kit to a range, who now needs a grade they can name, reorder and put on a label. A maker switching suppliers, re-verifying from scratch because a different 464 is not the same 464. A maker adding a second format — pillars alongside jars, or a premium coconut-soy tier — who needs one controlled test rather than a hopeful production run. It is not for someone pouring their first ever candle this weekend; that person wants a kit and a Sunday afternoon.
The thing that makes the calendar bearable is that you only do it once per grade. Once CSI 464 at 8% with a C2 wick in your 150 g jar is documented and proven, that is a recipe, and a recipe is what you scale. Everything after the first order is reordering a known quantity — which is when the volume tiers start to matter, and when pricing a candle stops being guesswork because you know what a kilogram of wax turns into. The one kilogram on the first order is the only purchase on this page that changes what all the later ones are worth.
Why trust this guide
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. On a page whose whole purpose is to get you to place an order, the commercially convenient version would be "buy the 10 kg bag and save". We have printed the per-kilogram table instead, and it shows that on most of our soy range the 10 kg bag saves you nothing per kilogram at all. We would rather sell you one kilogram you test properly and reorder for years than ten you regret in week three.
Every price, pack size and stock status here is taken from live CSI stock in September 2026 and links to the product page, where current pricing and specification always take precedence. The 13% and 10% figures are the manufacturers' stated fragrance ceilings for Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464; they are wax formulation limits, not regulatory limits, and they do not transfer between grades. No delivery time is quoted anywhere on this page, because transit depends on pin code and courier and a number we cannot stand behind is worse than none.

Frequently asked questions
How much soy wax should I order the first time?
One kilogram of one grade. At an 8% fragrance load that fills roughly five 200 g candles or seven 150 g candles — enough to pour three test jars with three wick sizes and hold wax back for a re-pour. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is ₹507.40 for 1 kg, and because the per-kilogram price is identical at 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg, the small pack costs you nothing in unit price. The only thing a 10 kg order buys you at that stage is exposure.
What does a complete first soy wax order cost in India?
₹1,854.60 at CSI live pricing, September 2026, excluding GST and delivery: 1 kg CSI 464 ₹507.40, Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 ×10 ₹59.00 and Thick C2 ×20 ₹188.80, Cotton Braided Wicks ×10 ₹120.00, 50 g Sandalwood ₹271.40, a pen thermometer ₹354.00 and a weighing scale ₹354.00. Two lines are equipment you never rebuy, so the consumable part is ₹1,146.60.
How long after ordering can I judge whether the wax is any good?
Twenty-one days after the pour, not after the order. Day 7 gives you a burn test that tells you about the wick — time to a full melt pool, soot, flame behaviour. Day 14 is the earliest honest hot-throw read and is usually enough for fresh and citrus oils. Day 21 is the verdict for woody, gourmand and oriental families. Judging at forty-eight hours is the single most common reason a maker wrongly blames a perfectly good wax.
My soy wax arrived soft and clumped in the heat. Is it ruined?
Usually not. Softening and clumping in transit is a physical change, and melting the wax to your pour temperature resets the crystal structure entirely. If the bag is sealed, there is no free oil inside it and no rancid or sour smell, let it return to room temperature slowly, break it up and pour as normal. A split bag, oil pooled in the packaging, a sour smell or a short weight are different problems — photograph everything before you disturb it and send the photos through on WhatsApp the same day.
Why are the delivery charges on wax so high, and can I reduce them?
It is a fair criticism and published CSI reviews make it — one verified buyer wrote that "the delivery charges are very high which is restricting me to purchase more". The mechanism: freight on wax is charged by weight, and wax is almost pure weight, so on a small order the delivery line is a visible share of the total. Four levers. Consolidate wax, wicks, oils and jars into one parcel instead of four. Step up to a 5 kg or 10 kg pack once you have tested, since the wax price per kilogram is the same either way and the freight per kilogram is not. Order monthly against a plan. And for large orders, discuss consolidated dispatch on WhatsApp before you build the basket.
Can I get a GST invoice and a spec sheet?
Yes to both, and ask for both at order time. Enter your GSTIN at checkout so the invoice is issued against it from the start rather than reissued later. The spec sheet carries the melt point, congealing point, recommended pour band and stated fragrance ceiling for the exact grade you ordered, and MSDS and IFRA documentation are supplied on request. Requested with the order, the paperwork reaches you while the wax is still in transit.

About this guide: Written by the CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA team. Product recommendations reflect the CSI range; the listing-decode framework, the goods-in check, the test-order structure and the twenty-one-day cure calendar apply to any supplier.
Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on their product pages. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me. Two longer reviews are shortened with an ellipsis and are otherwise unedited, including the two that criticise delivery and shipment charges — those are quoted again in full in the freight section and addressed there rather than removed. "Verified buyer" is shown only where Judge.me recorded the review as verified; Mahak agarwal's review is published but not verified, and is not badged.
