Cost to Make a 200 g Candle in India
Share
What is the biggest line in a 200 g candle? Wax, at 39.9% of the materials bill, then fragrance at 29.9% and the vessel at 27.9%. Wax and oil together are 69.8% — which is why the wax grade and the scent list decide this size, not the glass.
Does CSI sell a jar that holds exactly 200 g of wax? No vessel in stock publishes a 200 gram fill weight. The matte glass jars state a fill weight of 200 ml (₹70.80 each at 10), the salsa jar states 200 ml capacity (from ₹29.50 at 50) and the Ceramic Jar states 180 grams (₹129.80). Millilitres are a volume, so weigh your own fill before costing it.
How much fragrance oil does a 200 g candle take? 16 g at 8% of wax weight — ₹45.31 as Citrus Lemon, ₹75.90 as Apple Cinnamon, ₹122.34 as Dark Vanilla on 1 kg pricing. At 10% it is 20 g, which adds ₹18.97 a candle on Apple Cinnamon.
The 200 g unit, defined before it is costed
Through this series, 200 g means 200 g of wax in the vessel. Fragrance sits on top of that: at the 8% load CSI product pages use — a percentage of wax weight, not of the finished candle — 200 g of wax takes 16 g of oil, so 216 g is poured. Get that the wrong way round and you dose 14.8 g instead of 16 g, which is a different candle and a different cost.
At that unit, one candle in CSI materials is ₹254.08 on the standard build: ₹101.48 of wax, ₹75.90 of oil, ₹5.90 of wick and ₹70.80 of glass. The composition is worth reading before the total. Wax is 39.9% of the bill, fragrance 29.9%, vessel 27.9% and wick 2.3% — so at 200 g the wax takes the lead back from the glass, and wax and oil together are 69.8% of everything CSI can price.
| Line | Quantity | Priced from | Per candle | Share |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Soy wax | 200 g fill | Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 1 kg ₹507.40 | ₹101.48 | 39.9% |
| Fragrance oil | 16 g at 8% of wax weight | Apple Cinnamon 1 kg, ₹4.74/g | ₹75.90 | 29.9% |
| Wick | 1 pre-tabbed wick | Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1), ₹5.90 each at 100 | ₹5.90 | 2.3% |
| Vessel | 200 ml fill weight (page) | White Matte Glass Jar, ₹708.00 per 10 | ₹70.80 | 27.9% |
| CSI materials | 216 g poured | Four live product pages | ₹254.08 | 100% |
| Packaging, label, courier, labour | your figure | Not sold by CSI — not invented here | — | — |
Add a stated 5% allowance on wax, oil and glass for what stays in the pitcher and the odd cracked jar — an assumption, not measured data — and the same candle is ₹266.49. Add finishing and it moves again: a wick sticker at ₹2.50 and a care sticker at ₹0.83 together are ₹3.33, taking the build to ₹257.40. Everything beyond that — mailer, printed label, ribbon, courier, electricity, your hours — is yours to fill in, and this page keeps those rows empty on purpose.
Wax grade times fragrance: the whole matrix at 200 g
At a 200 g fill, each ₹100.00 a kilo on the wax is ₹20.00 a candle, and each rupee a gram on the oil is ₹16.00. Wax choice moves less than makers fear; fragrance choice moves more than they expect. The table below holds the wick (₹5.90) and the vessel (₹70.80) constant and changes only those two, so every cell is a complete materials total for one candle.
| Fragrance (16 g, 1 kg pricing) | Eco Soy CSI 400 | Luxury Soy CSI 464 | Luxury Soy Wax Chunks | Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Citrus Lemon — ₹2.83/g | ₹201.81 | ₹223.49 | ₹241.81 | ₹252.01 |
| British Rose — ₹3.07/g | ₹205.59 | ₹227.27 | ₹245.59 | ₹255.79 |
| Apple Cinnamon — ₹4.74/g | ₹232.40 | ₹254.08 | ₹272.40 | ₹282.60 |
| Lavender — ₹5.22/g | ₹240.04 | ₹261.72 | ₹280.04 | ₹290.24 |
| Dark Vanilla — ₹7.65/g | ₹278.84 | ₹300.52 | ₹318.84 | ₹329.04 |
The cheapest cell is ₹201.81 and the dearest ₹329.04 — a spread of ₹127.22 on identical glass and an identical wick. Of that spread, ₹50.20 is wax and ₹77.02 is fragrance. If you are trying to take cost out of a 200 g candle, the scent list is where the money is, and the wax grade is where the risk is: Eco Soy CSI 400 does not publish a fragrance ceiling, so ask for it on WhatsApp before you build a 200 g line on it.
Grades left out of the matrix for honest reasons. Natural Soy Pearl Wax at ₹450.00 a kilo (₹90.00 for 200 g) and Premium Coconut Soy Wax at ₹920.00 (₹184.00) publish neither a load ceiling nor working temperatures, so they belong in a test batch before a costing sheet. Soy Pillar Wax is sold for moulds and pillars rather than jars. And the case for a luxury soy in a jar is about finish and adhesion, not about the ₹50.20 the grades differ by.
What the load does to the bill
At 200 g of wax, 6% is 12 g, 8% is 16 g and 10% is 20 g. Going from 8% to 10% adds ₹18.97 a candle on Apple Cinnamon — ₹1,897.44 across a hundred — and adds nothing at all if the reason your candle smells weak is the wick or the cure. The ceiling is the lower of two published figures: the wax page's stated maximum (CSI 464 up to 10%, Chunks and CSI 468 up to 13%) and the oil page's stated candle range, commonly 6–10% of total wax weight on CSI oil pages. These are formulation maximums stated by the manufacturers, not limits imposed from outside.
| Fragrance oil | Per gram | 6% · 12 g | 8% · 16 g | 10% · 20 g | 8% → 10% adds |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Citrus Lemon | ₹2.83 | ₹33.98 | ₹45.31 | ₹56.64 | ₹11.33 |
| British Rose | ₹3.07 | ₹36.82 | ₹49.09 | ₹61.36 | ₹12.27 |
| Apple Cinnamon | ₹4.74 | ₹56.92 | ₹75.90 | ₹94.87 | ₹18.97 |
| Lavender | ₹5.22 | ₹62.65 | ₹83.54 | ₹104.42 | ₹20.88 |
| Dark Vanilla | ₹7.65 | ₹91.75 | ₹122.34 | ₹152.92 | ₹30.58 |
Read the last column as the price of an untested habit. Pouring every scent at 10% because one of them needed it costs ₹3,058.40 a hundred candles on Dark Vanilla. Test the load properly once — how to make candles smell strong without exceeding the safe fragrance load sets out the method — and then cost what your test actually proved.
The vessel problem at 200 g, stated plainly
No CSI vessel currently in stock publishes a 200 gram fill weight. What the catalogue does publish near this size is either a volume or a different weight: the matte and frosted glass jars state a fill weight of 200 ml at ₹70.80 each in the pack of 10 (8 cm tall, 7 cm wide), the 200ml Salsa Glass Jar states a 200 ml capacity from ₹29.50 each at 50, and the Ceramic Jar states a fill weight of 180 grams at ₹129.80. Above them the jump is large: the clip-top container at ₹229.00 states a 550 g wax fill and the borosilicate jar at ₹200.00 is described as ideal for a 500–600 g fill.
Millilitres are not grams. Soy wax is lighter than water, so a vessel that holds 200 ml of water holds less than 200 g of soy, and the gap is bigger again once you leave headspace below the rim. CSI does not publish a density figure for its waxes, so this page will not convert one for you. Weigh it instead: fill the jar with water to your intended line, note the weight, then pour one candle and weigh the wax that actually went in. That number, not the product title, is what your costing sheet should carry.
| Vessel | Published capacity | Pack | Per unit | Use it when |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 200ml Salsa Glass Jar | 200 ml capacity, 63 mm lug cap | 50 for ₹1,475.00, 100 for ₹2,950.00 | ₹29.50 | Cost per vessel is the constraint |
| White Matte Glass Jar | Fill weight 200 ml; 8 cm × 7 cm | 5 for ₹354.00, 10 for ₹708.00 | ₹70.80 | A finished matte look in one of eight colours |
| Black Matte Glass Jar | Fill weight 200 ml; 8 cm × 7 cm | 10 for ₹708.00 | ₹70.80 | The wax colour should not show |
| Ceramic Jar | Fill weight 180 grams | Single unit | ₹129.80 | A reusable, heavier gifting piece |
| Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid | 150 g fill capacity; hot-pour safe to 85°C | 10 for ₹944.00 | ₹94.40 | You would rather drop to a 150 g candle |
| Tin Containers | 85 g and 135 g variants | 12 for ₹1,161.12 | ₹96.76 | Courier risk matters more than glass |
| Clip-Top Glass Container | Wax fill 550 g; 11 × 11 × 10 cm | Single unit | ₹229.00 | You are moving to a three-wick candle |
The vessel spread at this size is ₹100.30 a candle from the cheapest salsa jar to the ceramic — larger than the entire wax spread. It is also the line a customer sees first, which is why it is a brand decision that happens to be a cost decision, and why choosing the jar deserves the same attention as choosing the scent.
A hundred candles: what the order actually looks like
A hundred 200 g candles at the standard build consume ₹25,407.76 of materials. The order is bigger, because wax, oil, wicks and jars are sold in packs and because a working allowance is sensible: 5% on wax and oil for what stays in the pitcher, 5% on glass for breakage. Both are assumptions stated openly, not measured rates.
| Item | Needed | Packs bought | Spend | Left over |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 | 20 kg, 21 kg with 5% allowance | 2 × 10 kg + 1 × 1 kg = 21 kg | ₹10,655.40 | Nil at 5% loss |
| Apple Cinnamon Fragrance Oil | 1.6 kg, 1.68 kg with allowance | 1 kg + 500 gm + 2 × 100 gm = 1.7 kg | ₹8,064.12 | 20 g |
| Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) | 100 | 1 × 100 pack | ₹590.00 | 0 |
| White Matte Glass Jar | 100, 105 with 5% spares | 11 × pack of 10 = 110 | ₹7,788.00 | 10 jars |
| Order total | ₹27,097.52 | |||
| Cartons, mailers, labels, courier, labour | your figure | Not sold by CSI | — |
That is ₹270.98 a candle of cash out against ₹254.08 of cost in. The gap is stock, not loss, and it comes back to you on the next batch — but it is the number your bank balance feels in October. Note too that 10 kg is the largest printed wax pack; a single consignment beyond that is quoted on WhatsApp, and this page does not guess at rates it cannot see.
Printed pack rates barely move with size. CSI 464 is ₹507.40 for 1 kg, ₹2,537.00 for 5 kg and ₹5,074.00 for 10 kg — within a rupee a kilo — with only the 500 g pack at ₹260.00 costing more per kilo. So the reason to buy the 10 kg pack is fewer parcels, fewer part-packs and one consistent batch of wax, not a lower printed rate. Soy wax pricing by pack follows the same pattern across the range.
Where ₹254.08 sits against the prices Indian candles sell at
Indian 200 g candles commonly sit at three illustrative price points online — ₹499.00, ₹699.00 and ₹999.00. Against those, ₹254.08 of CSI materials is 50.9%, 36.3% and 25.4% of the ticket. These prices are illustrative only: they are not CSI prices, not a recommendation, and nothing on this page calculates your margin.
| Build | CSI materials | Share of ₹499.00 | Share of ₹699.00 | Share of ₹999.00 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Value — Eco Soy 400, Citrus Lemon, salsa jar | ₹160.51 | 32.2% | 23.0% | 16.1% |
| Standard — CSI 464, Apple Cinnamon, matte jar | ₹254.08 | 50.9% | 36.3% | 25.4% |
| Premium — CSI 468, Dark Vanilla, ceramic jar | ₹391.58 | 78.5% | 56.0% | 39.2% |
What the table does not show is everything between that share and your bank account: the carton and mailer, the printed label, the courier, the gateway or marketplace fee, the returns, the photography, the ads, and your hours. Those are the lines CSI cannot see, and they are usually larger together than the wax. Work them out with a proper method — the 2026 pricing formula for Indian makers, a pricing calculator and how much profit is actually in candle making all start from the cost you have just built.
Getting a 200 g costing right the first time
Rebuild the sheet when a pack price changes, not when a season does
Every figure on this page is a live price for September 2026, and prices and availability change. A sheet that quotes ₹4.74 a gram for Apple Cinnamon is only correct while the 1 kg pack is ₹4,743.60. Keep the pack size and the date next to every rate, and recheck the product pages before you set a season's price rather than after.
Cost the wick you tested, not the cheapest one
A 200 ml jar 7 cm across may want an Eco C1 at ₹5.90 or a C2 at ₹9.44 — ₹3.54 apart — and a wider vessel may need a Cotton Braided Wick at ₹12.00 each from the pack of 50, whose page describes it as made for candles exceeding 8 cm. CSI does not publish wick sizes by jar diameter, so the wick guide by diameter gives starting points and a burn test settles it. Put the wick that passed on the sheet.
Treat tools as capital, spread over candles
A Pen Thermometer at ₹354.00, a Wick Centering Device at ₹118.00 and a Mini Electric Wax Melter at ₹2,360.00 are not per-candle costs. Spread them across the candles you will actually make in a year — a melter over 1,000 candles is ₹2.36 each — and keep them in a separate block of the sheet so a single purchase never makes one month look unprofitable.
Say which figures are assumptions
The 5% pot-loss and 5% breakage allowances here are assumptions, stated as such. Your own numbers will differ by season, by pouring method and by courier. Measure them for one quarter — weigh what is left in the pitcher, count what arrives broken — and replace the assumption with your own rate. A sheet that labels its guesses is a sheet you can improve.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA sells every material costed here, which makes two admissions worth printing. No vessel we currently stock publishes a 200 gram fill weight, so the honest advice at this size is to weigh your own pour rather than trust a product title. And the cheapest sensible build in our catalogue, ₹160.51, is ₹392.49 below the premium one — if your burn test says the cheaper grade and the cheaper scent perform, keep the difference.
Every price is from live CSI stock in September 2026; the linked product pages are authoritative and prices and availability change. Wax ceilings are quoted from the product pages — CSI 464 up to 10%, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and CSI 468 up to 13% — while Eco Soy CSI 400, Natural Soy Pearl Wax and Premium Coconut Soy Wax do not publish one, and we say so rather than estimate. Vessel capacities are quoted exactly as the pages state them, in grams or in millilitres, and no density conversion is invented. The 5% pot-loss and breakage allowances are stated assumptions, not measured data, and the ₹499.00, ₹699.00 and ₹999.00 price points are illustrative only — no margin is calculated on this page.
