Seven lines CSI can price to the paisa, four lines only you can fill, and one honest total at the bottom of the sheet.
₹194.01
CSI materials in one 200 g candle — wax, fragrance, wick, sticker, jar, dye and care label · outer packaging, freight and labour are yours to add · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
What does it cost to make one candle in India? For a 200 g soy candle in a lidded glass jar, the materials CSI sells come to ₹194.01 — ₹101.48 of CSI 464 wax, ₹49.09 of British Rose at 8%, ₹29.50 for the jar, ₹5.90 for the wick and ₹8.05 of stickers and dye. Outer packaging, labels, courier and labour are your own costs and are not included.

Why does this page leave packaging and freight blank? Because CSI does not sell mailers, cartons, bubble wrap, ribbon, printed labels or courier services, and does not publish freight rates. Putting a typical figure in those rows would be inventing data. The worksheet gives each one its own row marked your figure and totals the sheet as materials from CSI plus your own costs.

How much of a candle's cost is the jar? Anywhere from ₹31.86 for a 70 g clear votive to ₹107.00 for a 150 gram black glass jar with a lid. On the 200 g stack above, moving from the ₹29.50 Salsa jar to the ₹107.00 lidded jar adds ₹77.50 a candle — more than the wick, sticker, dye and care label together.

What is the cheapest complete candle I can cost from CSI stock? A 150 g fill of Eco Soy CSI 400 with Citrus Lemon at 6% in a 70 g-class votive comes to ₹126.42 of materials; the premium build here reaches ₹399.78. Same workshop, same hour of labour, ₹273.36 apart in materials alone.
The short answer
Seven CSI lines: wax, fragrance, wick, wick sticker, vessel, colour and care label — ₹194.01 for the 200 g candle costed here.
Four lines of yours: outer packaging, printed labels, courier and labour. CSI does not sell them, so each gets a blank row you fill from your own invoices.
One honest total: materials from CSI plus your own costs. Any sheet that shows a single all-in number without those four rows is hiding them, not saving them.

The full stack of one 200 g candle: 200 g of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, 16 g of British Rose at 8% of wax weight, an Eco Candle Wick Thin (C1), a wick sticker, a 200 ml Salsa glass jar with lug cap, dye at an assumed one-hundredth of a 50 gm bottle and a candle care sticker. The dashed block stands for outer packaging, labels, freight and labour — CSI does not sell those, so the page leaves them as an input rather than inventing a number.
Straight answer
What is the complete cost of one candle, counting everything?
Split it in two, because only half of it is ours to price. The materials CSI sells for one 200 g soy candle in a lidded glass jar: ₹101.48 of wax (200 g of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464), ₹49.09 of fragrance (16 g of British Rose at 8% of wax weight), ₹29.50 for the 200 ml Salsa glass jar with lug cap bought fifty at a time, ₹5.90 for an Eco Candle Wick Thin (C1), ₹2.50 for a wick sticker, ₹4.72 of dye on an assumption of one hundred candles to a 50 gm bottle, and ₹0.83 for a candle care sticker. That is ₹194.01, every paisa of it traceable to a live product page. The costs that are yours: the outer carton or mailer, protective packing, printed labels, ribbon or tissue, courier or freight, labour, electricity and any marketplace or payment-gateway fee. CSI sells none of those and publishes no rates for them, so this page gives each a blank row rather than a number. Your true cost per candle is ₹194.01 plus the sum of those rows — and at fifty candles the CSI half of the sheet is ₹9,700.70.
One line: Seven CSI lines come to ₹194.01 for a 200 g candle; the outer packaging, label, freight and labour rows stay blank because CSI does not sell them.
Building your cost sheet today? Seven of its rows are already priced: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 ₹507.40/kg, British Rose Fragrance Oil ₹3.07/g at 1 kg, Eco Candle Wicks ₹5.90 each at 100, 200ml Salsa Glass Jars ₹29.50 each at 50, Candle Wick Stickers ₹2.50 each, Candle Dye Liquid ₹472.00 for 50 gm and Candle Care Stickers ₹0.83 each at 500.

The worksheet: seven lines CSI prices, four lines you do

A cost sheet is only honest when it shows you the rows it cannot fill.

Here is the whole thing on one screen, for one candle: a 200 g fill of soy wax in a lidded glass jar, scented at 8% of wax weight, wicked, stickered and labelled. The top block is priced from live CSI stock and every rate is traceable to a pack you can put in a basket. The bottom block is blank on purpose. CSI does not sell outer cartons, mailers, bubble wrap, ribbon, printed labels, shrink wrap, courier services or hours of your time, and does not publish rates for any of them — so those rows say your figure and stay that way.

Priced above: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 1 kg ₹507.40 · British Rose Fragrance Oil 1 kg ₹3,068.00 · 200ml Salsa Glass Jar with 63mm Lug Cap 50 Pcs ₹1,475.00 · Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) 100 Wicks ₹590.00 · Candle Wick Stickers 40 for ₹100.00 · Candle Dye Liquid 50 gm ₹472.00 · Candle Care Stickers Roll 500 for ₹413.00. The dye line rests on an assumption of 100 candles to a bottle because no dosage is published; the six input rows are not CSI costs and carry no number on this page.

Two habits make that sheet useful. Keep the pack in the row — "1 kg ₹507.40", not "wax" — so any figure can be rebuilt a year later. And never collapse the two blocks into one number: the CSI block is ₹194.01 and it is knowable today; your block is genuinely yours, and it is usually the one that decides whether a five-hundred-rupee candle works or not.

One fit check before you copy this sheet. The 200 g in the wax line is a wax weight, the costing unit used across these guides. Vessel listings state capacity differently — some in millilitres, some as a fill weight in grams — and the two are not the same measurement, because soy wax is lighter than water and a jar is never filled to its brim. The Black Glass Jar with Black Lid page gives a fill capacity of about 150 gm; the Apothecary Glass Candle Jar with Dome Lid page gives about 500–700 g across its two sizes. Pour your chosen vessel to the line you actually sell at, weigh the wax that went in, and use that number in the wax and fragrance rows. Every other row on the sheet is unchanged by the decision.

Costing only the wax and the jar because they are the visible parts. On this stack the wax and jar together are ₹130.98, which feels like the whole candle. The fragrance, wick, wick sticker, dye and care label add ₹63.03 on top — about 32% of the material cost. Over fifty candles that is ₹3,151.70 that never made it into your price.

The vessel: the line that swings hardest

Two candles with identical wax, scent and wick can be forty rupees apart before either of them is lit.

Vessels are where a candle's cost is really decided, because the price range is enormous and the choice is visible to the customer in a way the wax is not. CSI's containers run from small votives to lidded glass jars, tins and ceramic, and the per-unit rate usually depends on the pack you buy: the 200ml Salsa Glass Jar is ₹40.12 each in a 5-piece pack and ₹29.50 each at 50 pieces — a difference of ₹10.62 on every candle you sell.

Stack totals hold wax, fragrance, wick, sticker, dye and care label constant and change only the vessel. Fill weights depend on where you pour to, not only on the jar's stated capacity.

The honest reading of that table is that the vessel decision is a positioning decision with a cost attached, not a cost decision with a look attached. A ₹107.00 lidded jar has to earn ₹77.50 more per candle than the ₹29.50 Salsa jar somewhere — in the price, in the photograph, in the gifting occasion — or it is simply margin you have given away. For a 500-candle wedding order, that same choice is ₹38,750.00.

COST THE LID SEPARATELY IN YOUR HEAD
Some CSI vessels include a lid or cap in the listed price and some do not. A jar without a lid may need a dust cover you buy elsewhere, which lands in one of the blank rows rather than in the CSI block — so when you compare two vessels, compare the finished presentation, not the two line items. Glass also travels badly: add a breakage allowance before you compare, and state it. This page uses 4% on glass in the batch section, an assumption and nothing more.

Wick, sticker and the small parts that hide in plain sight

Nobody ever lost money on a wick sticker. Plenty of people have lost money on forty of them.

The small lines look trivial one at a time and stop being trivial at volume. On this stack the wick is ₹5.90, the wick sticker ₹2.50 and the care label ₹0.83 — together ₹9.23 a candle, or ₹4,613.00 across 500 candles. That is roughly what a 10 kg bag of wax costs, and it is invisible in any sheet that does not have rows for it.

Small parts

Wick Centring Device Single ₹118.00 Reusable Equipment, not a per-candle line
Priced above: Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) 100 for ₹590.00 and Thick (C2) 100 for ₹944.00 · Performance Wooden Wicks 10 for ₹590.00, 100 for ₹4,130.00 · Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made 100 for ₹1,200.00 · Candle Wick Stickers 40 for ₹100.00 · Large Candle Wick Stickers 40 for ₹249.00 · Candle Care Stickers Roll 500 for ₹413.00 and 1000 for ₹699.00 · Wick Centring Device ₹118.00. CSI does not publish wick sizes by jar diameter, so choose by test burn rather than by table.

Note the last row. A centring device, a thermometer, a pitcher and a melter are equipment, not per-candle materials. If you want them in the picture, amortise them separately: a Mini Electric Wax Melter at ₹2,360.00 spread over 500 candles is ₹4.72 a candle, and after those 500 candles it is zero. Mixing capital into the material line makes early candles look unprofitable and later ones look too good, which is the fastest way to misprice a range.

Wicking up without re-costing. Moving from an Eco C1 at ₹5.90 to a C2 at ₹9.44 adds ₹3.54 a candle, and moving to a wooden wick at ₹59.00 each in the 10-pack adds ₹53.10. Those are fine decisions for burn quality and terrible surprises for a quoted wholesale price. Re-cost the sheet the same day you change the wick, and buy the 100-pack (₹41.30 each) before a wooden-wick line goes into production.
Costing a Diwali run? Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November 2026, so a 14–21 day cure plus courier time puts pours in mid-October and material orders before that. The stack above needs one 10 kg bag of CSI 464, a 1 kg British Rose, a 100-pack of Eco Candle Wicks and a 50-piece box of Salsa jars — ₹11,292.00 of packs covering fifty candles, ₹225.84 a candle including everything left on the shelf.

Colour and finishing: the lines that need an assumption

Where a number cannot be derived, say which assumption you used — and let the reader change it.

Dye and mica are the only CSI lines on this sheet that cannot be computed exactly, because the product pages do not publish a dosage per kilo of wax and we will not invent one. What they do publish is that the dyes are concentrated, so shade depends on how much you add. The practical answer is to cost the bottle and divide by the candles it actually colours in your workshop, then write the assumption next to the figure.

Colour lines

Every coverage figure in the assumption column is an illustration for the arithmetic, not a CSI specification.

How to replace the assumption with a fact, in one batch: weigh or note the bottle level before you start, colour a full batch as you normally would, and count the candles. Forty candles from a quarter of a 50 gm bottle means about 160 candles a bottle, and your dye line is ₹2.95 rather than ₹4.72. That is a small number, but it is the difference between a sheet you can defend and a sheet you have to apologise for when a wholesale buyer asks how you got it.

The CSI principle
Price what you can source. Leave a blank where you cannot. Never fill a blank with a guess dressed as a number.
Seven lines here come to ₹194.01 and can be checked against a product page in ten seconds. The other four are yours — and pretending otherwise would make the whole sheet worthless.

The four lines CSI cannot price for you

Every candle business in India discovers the same thing: the cheap part was the candle.

Outer packaging, printed labels, freight and labour are real, often large, and completely outside a raw-material supplier's price list. CSI does not sell cartons, mailers, bubble wrap, tissue, ribbon, shrink wrap or printed brand labels; it does not run a courier service; it does not publish freight rates or delivery times; and it obviously cannot value your hours. Any of those numbers on this page would be fiction. So here is how to fill them from things you already have.

1
Outer packaging: price the last box you bought. Take your most recent invoice for cartons, mailers or bubble wrap, divide by the number of candles it packs, and write that per-candle figure in the row. If you have not bought any yet, the row stays blank until you have a quote — do not borrow a number from a blog, including this one.
2
Labels and inserts: price the print run. Printers quote per sheet or per thousand. Divide by the candles the run labels, and remember that a design change mid-year resets the figure. Your care sticker is already in the CSI block at ₹0.83; a printed brand label is not.
3
Freight: split it into inward and outward. Inward freight on raw materials is a real part of your material cost — add it to the CSI block as a separate row, spread across the candles the consignment produces. Outward courier belongs to the order, not the candle, and is often absorbed as free shipping, which makes it a pricing decision rather than a costing one. CSI does not publish rates for either, so both numbers come from your own courier.
4
Labour: pay yourself before you price. Time one full batch from melting to labelling, including cleaning. Divide the hours by the candles and apply whatever hourly figure you would accept from someone else. A cost sheet with a zero in the labour row is not a cheap candle; it is an unpaid one.

Two more rows deserve their own line rather than a shrug. Electricity — a melter, a heat gun and a fan through a 40°C Delhi afternoon are not free, and your own bill divided by production hours gives the figure. Channel fees — a marketplace commission or payment-gateway charge is a per-order cost you can read off a statement, and it belongs below the material block. Neither is a CSI cost, so neither gets a number here.

Putting a "typical" packaging figure in the sheet because a blog quoted one. Carton, mailer and label prices in India vary with city, order size, print quality and season, and a number lifted from someone else's article is not your cost — it is their guess. The whole point of the two-block worksheet is that ₹194.01 is checkable and everything below it is yours. A quote from your own packaging supplier takes one phone call and makes the total real.
The rows a supplier leaves blank are the rows that decide whether your price works.

Three candles, three stacks: budget, standard and premium

The same hour of work produces candles whose materials differ by more than a hundred rupees.

All three builds below are complete in the CSI block — wax, oil, wick, sticker, vessel, colour and care label — and all three still need your four rows before they are a cost. The point of comparing them is not to pick a winner but to see which lines actually move: wax, vessel and fragrance carry almost all of the difference.

Loads are percentages of wax weight and sit within both the wax page's stated ceiling and each oil page's stated range; Dark Vanilla Oud states 6–10%, and CSI 468 states up to 13%, so 10% governs.

The premium build costs ₹273.36 more in materials than the budget one. If both take the same hour to pour and the same box to ship, that gap is the only thing your price has to recover — which is why a sheet like this belongs beside the price list rather than in a folder. As an illustration only: at an indicative retail price of ₹899.00, the standard stack's CSI materials are about 22% of the ticket before any of your own costs, packaging or channel fees are counted. That percentage is illustrative, not a target, and CSI does not set or recommend selling prices.

Fifty candles: what the sheet says versus what you buy

Per-candle costs are for pricing. Pack costs are for ordering. Confusing the two empties a bank account.

Take the standard stack fifty times. The sheet says ₹9,700.70 of CSI materials. The order you actually place is different, because wax comes in 10 kg bags and jars in boxes of fifty: a 10 kg bag of CSI 464, a 1 kg British Rose, a 100-pack of Eco Candle Wicks, two sheets of wick stickers, one 50-piece box of Salsa jars, a 50 gm dye bottle and a 500-sticker care roll — ₹11,292.00, or ₹225.84 a candle if you charge the whole order to this run. The difference between ₹194.01 and ₹225.84 is not waste: it is stock that pours the next batch.

The 3% wax allowance, 2% oil allowance and 4% glass breakage allowance are stated assumptions for illustration, not measured CSI data.

Glass is the line to watch. A 4% breakage allowance on fifty candles is two jars, and since the jars come in boxes of fifty, two extra jars means a second box or a batch of forty-eight. Neither is wrong; both have to be decided before you promise fifty. Indian summer heat, monsoon damp and the ordinary life of a delivery van all argue for ordering glass a little deep, and CSI's stock depth on a given vessel is shown on its product page.

Quoting a wholesale order from a consumption sheet without checking stock depth. A 500-candle order at ₹194.01 of materials each is ₹97,007.00 of CSI lines, which needs jars, wicks and stickers in quantities that must be confirmed before you accept the order — not after. Check the pack availability on each product page, and ask on WhatsApp for bulk pricing and consolidated quantities before you commit to a delivery date.

Six checks before you call it a cost

The test of a cost sheet is whether a buyer can ask about any line and get an answer in one sentence.

One: is every priced line traceable to a pack? A rate without a pack behind it rots within a season. Two: is the load a percentage of wax weight? That is the convention CSI's pages use, and it fixes both the wax and the oil line. Three: are assumptions labelled? Dye coverage, wastage, breakage — each one written as an assumption, each one replaceable. Four: are the four blank rows still visible? If they have quietly disappeared, the total is wrong by exactly as much as they were worth. Five: is equipment out of the material line? Amortise it separately or leave it out. Six: does the sheet survive a price change? Re-check the linked product pages before a large order; they are always authoritative.

Once those six hold, the sheet does what it is for: it shows the floor beneath your price, and which line to attack when a buyer pushes back. CSI can quote the first block in bulk, with a GST invoice and MSDS and IFRA documentation. The second block will always be yours — and any page that tells you otherwise is selling you a number rather than a method.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles, and this page is deliberately incomplete as a result. Four of the rows on the worksheet — outer packaging, printed labels, freight and labour — are left blank because CSI does not sell them and does not publish rates for them. Filling those rows with a plausible-looking figure would flatter the total and mislead your pricing, so we do not. The same honesty applies inside our own half of the sheet: the dye and mica lines rest on a stated assumption about how many candles a bottle colours, because no dosage is published.

Every material price is from live CSI stock in September 2026, and the linked product pages are authoritative. Per-unit rates are calculated from the pack variants named beside each figure. Fragrance ceilings are quoted from the wax pages — CSI 464 up to 10% of total wax weight, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and CSI 468 up to 13% — and the oil pages state their own candle ranges, the lower of the two governing. Wastage, breakage and spares allowances are assumptions stated where used, not measured data. Retail prices used for illustration are labelled as such; CSI does not set or recommend your selling price, and tax and licensing questions belong with your own adviser.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the total cost of making one candle?
Price each material from the pack you buy — wax per gram, oil per gram, and wick, sticker, jar and label per unit — then add your own outer packaging, label, freight and labour as separate rows. For a 200 g soy candle in a lidded glass jar the CSI materials come to ₹194.01; your own rows sit under that and the total is the sum of both blocks.
What is the cost of packaging per candle?
CSI cannot tell you, and will not guess. Cartons, mailers, bubble wrap, ribbon, tissue and printed labels are not sold here and no rates are published for them, so the worksheet gives each one a blank row marked your figure. Take your own packaging invoice, divide by the candles it packs, and enter that. The one finishing item CSI does price is the Candle Care Sticker at ₹0.83 each in the 500 roll.
How much does a jar add to the cost of a candle?
Between ₹31.86 and ₹107.00 across the vessels costed here. The 200 ml Salsa glass jar with lug cap is ₹29.50 each at 50 pieces and ₹40.12 each at 5, so the pack size alone moves the line by ₹10.62 a candle.
Should freight and courier be included in cost per candle?
Inward freight on raw materials genuinely belongs in material cost — spread the consignment charge across the candles it produces. Outward courier belongs to the order rather than the candle and is usually a pricing decision. CSI does not publish freight rates or delivery times, so both numbers have to come from your own courier invoices; they appear on this worksheet as blank input rows.
Do I include my own labour in the cost of a candle?
Yes, if you want a price rather than a hobby. Time one full batch from melting to labelling, divide by the candles produced and apply an hourly figure you would pay someone else. It is not a CSI cost and this page puts no number on it, but a sheet showing ₹194.01 of materials and nothing for labour is not a cost — it is half of one.
How much do 50 candles cost to make?
Fifty of the standard 200 g candles costed here consume ₹9,700.70 of CSI materials. The order you place is different: 10 kg of wax, 1 kg of oil, 100 wicks, 50 jars, stickers and dye come to ₹11,292.00 — ₹225.84 a candle if the whole order is charged to the run, with the remainder carried as stock. Your packaging, freight and labour are added on top of both numbers.
