A raw-material budget is only as good as its shortest line. Spend it in proportion to what each component costs you per month and every line lasts the same number of days. Spend it any other way and production stops when the first line runs out, with money frozen in the rest.
34 days
of wax, oil, wicks and jars from ₹1,00,000 for 320 × 200 g candles a month at 8% · monthly consumption ₹88,183.33 at CSI prices
Quick answers — read this first
How should I split ₹1 lakh across wax, fragrance, wicks and jars? In proportion to what each costs you per month. For 320 × 200 g candles at 8%: wax ₹36,327.19, oils ₹27,047.82, wicks ₹1,925.76, jars ₹22,882.56. So 41.2% wax, 30.7% oils, 25.9% jars, 2.2% wicks.

How long will ₹1 lakh last? ₹1,00,000 ÷ ₹88,183.33 a month = 1.13 months, about 34 days of every component at once.

Why not 25% each? Because components cost very different amounts per candle. ₹25,000 of wicks is 389 days' supply; ₹25,000 of wax is 21. Production would stop after 21 days.

What if I already have some stock? Spend to bring every line to the same days of cover, filling the thinnest first. In our second example that lifts every line to 44.4 days. See topping up existing stock.
The short answer
Rule: Line budget = total budget × (line's monthly consumption value ÷ total monthly consumption value). Every line then covers the same number of days.
Worked example: 320 candles a month → ₹88,183.33 of materials. ₹1,00,000 → wax ₹41,195.08, oils ₹30,672.26, wicks ₹2,183.81, jars ₹25,948.85 → 34.0 days each.
After rounding: Real packs within each line's budget spend ₹97,601.28; ₹2,398.72 is left for the line with the least cover.
₹1,00,000 split two ways — and how many days each component then lasts By consumption share — every line lasts the same Wax 34 days Oils 34 days Jars 34 days wicks 25% each — production stops when the shortest line runs out Wax 21 days Oils 28 days Wicks 389 days Jars 33 days Example: 320 × 200 g candles a month at 8% · monthly consumption ₹88,183.33 at CSI prices Equal split: 21 days of production, then wax runs out while 389 days of wicks sit on the shelf
Both bars are ₹1,00,000. Top: each component gets its share of monthly consumption value, so wax, oils, wicks and jars all last about 34 days. Bottom: an equal 25% split buys 389 days of wicks but only 21 days of wax. Example business on this page; CSI prices.
Straight answer
I have ₹1 lakh available for raw-material inventory — how do I decide how much should go into wax, fragrance oils, wicks and jars based on actual monthly consumption?
Price one month of consumption for each component, then give each component the same share of the budget as its share of that monthly bill. Our example business pours 320 × 200 g candles a month at 8% in White Matte jars. At CSI prices, with small loss and breakage allowances, a month consumes ₹36,327.19 of wax, ₹27,047.82 of fragrance oil, ₹1,925.76 of wicks and ₹22,882.56 of jars — ₹88,183.33 in all. ₹1,00,000 is therefore 1.13 months of materials, and the split that makes every line last the same 34 days is ₹41,195.08 to wax, ₹30,672.26 to oils (divided by each scent's own use), ₹2,183.81 to wicks and ₹25,948.85 to jars. An even 25% split looks fair but stops production after 21 days, when the wax runs out, while 389 days of wicks sit unused. Round each line down to real packs within its budget, and put the few rupees left over into whichever line ends up shortest. If you already hold stock, spend so every line reaches the same days of cover, thinnest first.
One line: split the budget by what each component costs you per month, and every line runs out on the same day.
The largest line in almost any candle budget is wax. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks cost ₹2,995.00 for 5 kg (₹599.00 a kilo) and ₹5,999.00 for 10 kg; two 5 kg bags are ₹9.00 cheaper than one 10 kg. In our example the wax line is ₹41,195.08 — 13 five-kilo bags and 3 one-kilo bags.
Buy Luxury Soy Wax Chunks

Monthly consumption in rupees

Kilograms cannot be compared with wick counts. Rupees can. Convert every line to rupees per month before you divide anything.

Our example business pours 320 candles a month, each 200 g at an 8% fragrance load in a White Matte Glass Jar (200 g is a tested fill you should confirm in your own jar; the jar's fill weight is not published). Four scents share the sales: Lavender 35%, British Rose 25%, Dark Vanilla 20% and Sandalwood 20%. These are example figures — the method needs only your own monthly units, fill, load and scent mix.

Each candle is 184 g of wax and 16 g of oil. Add a 3% pour-loss allowance to wax and oil, 2% to wicks for defects and 1% to glass for breakage — all labelled working assumptions. Then price each line at the rate you will actually pay: wax at ₹599.00 a kilo (the 5 kg bag), each oil at its 1 kg per-gram price, wicks at ₹5.90 and jars at ₹70.80.

Example · 320 × 200 g candles a month at 8% · CSI prices (oil/wax pulled 24 September 2026; wicks 25 September; jar verified 10 September 2026)
One month of consumption, in kilograms and rupees
Line Monthly quantity Rate used Monthly value
Wax (Luxury Soy Wax Chunks) 60.65 kg ₹599.00 / kg ₹36,327.19
Lavender (35% of sales) 1,845.8 g ₹5,221.00 / kg ₹9,636.71
British Rose (25% of sales) 1,318.4 g ₹3,068.00 / kg ₹4,044.85
Dark Vanilla (20% of sales) 1,054.7 g ₹7,646.00 / kg ₹8,064.39
Sandalwood (20% of sales) 1,054.7 g ₹5,026.80 / kg ₹5,301.87
Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 326.4 ₹5.90 each ₹1,925.76
White Matte Glass Jar 323.2 ₹70.80 each ₹22,882.56
Total ₹88,183.33

Material cost per candle is ₹275.57, before labels, boxes, freight, labour and GST. The jar is the surprise for many makers: at ₹70.80 it costs more than the wax in the candle (₹113.52 with loss). Any budget split that treats glass as a small line will run out of jars first.

The split that gives equal cover

Divide the budget in the same proportions as the monthly bill. Each line then buys the same number of months of its own consumption, because every line gets budget ÷ total monthly value = 1.134 months of itself.

₹1,00,000 allocated by consumption share · before rounding to packs
The allocation, and the cover each line buys
Line Monthly value Share Budget Cover
Wax ₹36,327.19 41.2% ₹41,195.08 34.0 days
Fragrance oils ₹27,047.82 30.7% ₹30,672.26 34.0 days
Wicks ₹1,925.76 2.2% ₹2,183.81 34.0 days
Jars ₹22,882.56 25.9% ₹25,948.85 34.0 days
Total ₹88,183.33 100.0% ₹1,00,000.00 34.0 days

Within the oil line, split again by each scent's own monthly value, not by its share of sales. Dark Vanilla is 20% of sales but, at ₹7.65 a gram, 29.8% of the oil bill; British Rose is 25% of sales but only 15.0% of the bill at ₹3.07 a gram. So Dark Vanilla gets ₹9,145.03 and British Rose ₹4,586.87 — and both still last 34 days.

The CSI principle
Allocate rupees by rupees, not by kilograms or by instinct.
A budget is spent evenly when every line runs out on the same day. The only split that achieves that is the one that mirrors your monthly bill. Everything else leaves one line short and another line fat.
1
Write down one normal monthUnits, fill weight, load and scent mix from last month's sales, or from your forecast if a season is coming.
2
Convert to quantitiesWax = units × fill × (1 − load); oil per scent = units × fill × load × scent share; one wick and one container per candle. Add your loss, defect and breakage allowances.
3
Price each line at the rate you will payUse the pack size you will actually buy. On CSI's listed prices wax and most oils are flat per kilo from 5 kg and 100 g respectively, so the rate barely depends on pack size — but for oils like British Rose or Jasmine, the 1 kg rate is lower.
4
Divide the budget by the same sharesLine budget = total × line value ÷ total value. Check: every line should show the same days of cover.
5
Round down to packs within each lineNever let one line's rounding eat another's money. Round each line down to what its budget buys, then place the leftover on the line with the fewest days.

Why an equal split fails

Four lines, four quarters. It feels balanced. It is the most common way to strand money in a stock room.
Same business · ₹25,000 to each line
What 25% each actually buys
Line Budget Monthly value Cover bought
Wax ₹25,000.00 ₹36,327.19 20.6 days
Fragrance oils ₹25,000.00 ₹27,047.82 27.7 days
Wicks ₹25,000.00 ₹1,925.76 389.5 days
Jars ₹25,000.00 ₹22,882.56 32.8 days

Production needs all four at once, so the business can pour for only 20.6 days — about 220 candles — before wax runs out. At that point it holds more than a year's wicks and several weeks of jars, bought with money that should have been wax. The consumption-share split buys 34.0 days of everything for the same ₹1,00,000.

The mistake: allocating by weight. A maker who reasons "wax is most of the candle, so most of the money" might put 80% into wax. That buys 66 days of wax and leaves ₹20,000 for oils, wicks and jars — about 12 days of those if split sensibly. Weight is not cost. The jar weighs nothing in the recipe and is a quarter of the bill.
Argued against our own interest, plainly. A supplier would like your budget to go into whatever it sells in the largest packs. The right split is the boring one: the same share as your monthly bill, with no line overfilled because a bigger bag "feels economical". On our listed prices, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks cost the same per kilo in 5 kg and 10 kg bags, so there is no rate to chase by overbuying wax at the expense of jars.

Rounding each line to real packs

Budgets are rupees; stock comes in packs. Round each line down to what its own budget buys — rounding up would take money from another line. Here is the consumption-share allocation turned into real CSI packs:

Each line rounded down within its own budget · CSI listed prices
The ₹1 lakh order, pack by pack
Line Budget Packs Quantity Cost Days of cover
Luxury Soy Wax Chunks ₹41,195.08 13 × 5 kg + 3 × 1 kg 68.00 kg ₹40,732.00 33.6
Lavender ₹10,928.04 2 × 1 kg 2,000 g ₹10,442.00 32.5
British Rose ₹4,586.87 1 × 1 kg + 4 × 100 g 1,400 g ₹4,436.80 31.9
Dark Vanilla ₹9,145.03 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 100 g 1,100 g ₹8,436.00 31.3
Sandalwood ₹6,012.32 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 100 g 1,100 g ₹5,529.48 31.3
Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 ₹2,183.81 3 × 100 + 1 × 50 + 1 × 20 370 ₹2,183.00 34.0
White Matte Glass Jar ₹25,948.85 73 × pack of 5 365 ₹25,842.00 33.9
Total ₹1,00,000.00 ₹97,601.28 left over ₹2,398.72

After rounding, ₹97,601.28 is spent and ₹2,398.72 is left. The line with the least cover is Dark Vanilla at 31.3 days, so the leftover goes there first — a 100 g bottle, a pack of five jars or a 1 kg bag of wax, whichever the leftover covers. Small differences in days of cover after rounding are normal; what matters is that no line is weeks shorter than the others.

Topping up existing stock

Most budgets are not spent on an empty stock room. If you already hold some wax, a bottle or two of each oil and a few jars, the aim is the same — every line lasting the same number of days — but the spend is different. Convert each line's stock to days of cover, then fill the thinnest lines first until all reach a common level. With ₹1,00,000 and the example shelf below, that common level is:

Second example · existing stock + ₹1,00,000 · valued at the same CSI rates as above
Spend that brings every line to equal cover
Line On hand Days on hand Spend to equalise Days after spending
Wax (Chunks) 25,000 g 12.4 ₹38,787.98 44.4
Lavender 400 g 6.5 ₹12,173.60 44.4
British Rose 900 g 20.5 ₹3,225.04 44.4
Dark Vanilla 150 g 4.3 ₹10,788.11 44.4
Sandalwood 700 g 19.9 ₹4,327.82 44.4
Wicks 300 27.6 ₹1,080.06 44.4
White Matte jars 60 5.6 ₹29,617.39 44.4
Total ₹30,508.26 on hand ₹1,00,000.00 44.4

The shelf already held ₹30,508.26 of stock, so ₹1,00,000 lifts every line to 44.4 days. Dark Vanilla and jars, the thinnest, get the most; British Rose, already well stocked, gets the least. If any line already had more cover than the common level, it would get nothing and the level would be recalculated across the rest. Round each spend to packs as before.

Keep the floors intact
If you run a safety floor — two weeks of every component, say — check the allocation leaves every line above it. If the budget cannot reach every floor, spend on the lines below their floor first, starting with the cheapest item that can stop production. The same method works at any budget. ₹50,000 buys half the days; ₹5 lakh buys five times as many — though at that point it is worth checking whether that much cover makes sense for oils and wax you will hold for months, and whether larger quantities should be quoted. Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. The advice that would sell the most would be to put your budget into big bags. This page splits it by what you actually consume, rounds each line down to real packs, and shows where an equal split strands money.

Oil and wax prices come from live CSI listings pulled on 24 September 2026; Eco Candle Wick prices from the 25 September 2026 pull; the White Matte Glass Jar price was verified on 10 September 2026 for Blog 760. Monthly values, shares, days of cover and pack roundings are plain arithmetic on those prices.

Monthly sales, the 200 g fill, the scent mix, the loss, defect and breakage allowances and the on-hand counts are labelled example assumptions. Material cost excludes labels, boxes, freight, labour and GST. For a quote that prices your own lines, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

How do I divide my raw material budget for candle making?
Price one month of each component (wax, each oil, wicks, containers), then give each the same share of the budget as its share of that monthly bill. Every line then lasts the same number of days.
How much of a candle budget should go on wax?
Whatever wax's share of your monthly material bill is. In our example, 41.2% — but a business with cheaper jars or dearer oils will see a different number. Work it from your own consumption.
How long will ₹1 lakh of candle raw material last?
Budget ÷ monthly material cost. For 320 × 200 g candles a month at 8% with White Matte jars, ₹88,183.33 a month, so about 34 days.
Is it better to buy more jars or more wax with a limited budget?
Neither — buy both in proportion to use. Whichever runs out first stops production, so extra of the other is stranded money until the short one is restocked.
What is the material cost of a 200 g soy candle?
With Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, one Eco Thin C1 wick and a White Matte jar at 8% load: wax ₹110.22, wick ₹5.90, jar ₹70.80, plus oil — ₹49.09 for British Rose or ₹122.34 for Dark Vanilla at 1 kg rates. Labels, packaging, freight, labour and GST are extra.
Should the fragrance budget be split equally between scents?
No. Split by each scent's monthly value — its sales share × its price per gram. A dearer oil needs a larger share of the fragrance budget to last as long as a cheaper one.
Split by consumption, round by pack
Every line the same number of days — then round down within each line.
Luxury Soy Wax Chunks in 5 kg and 10 kg bags, 93 fragrance oils to 1 kg, Eco Candle Wicks in packs to 1,000 and White Matte jars in packs of 5. Send your monthly volumes and budget and we will price each line.
