I Need 1,000 × 60 g Wedding Favours — How Much Wax Should I Buy When I Also Need 50 Additional Candles for Samples, Replacements and Breakage?
Share
How much do the 50 extras add? 2,842.80 g of wax and 247.20 g of oil, including loss, plus 50 jars and 50 wicks. Not 50 × 60 g of wax: each extra is 55.2 g of wax and 4.8 g of oil, like every other favour.
And fragrance? 4.8 g per favour: 5,040 g for 1,050, 5,191.20 g with loss. In Gardenia that is 5 × 1 kg + 2 × 100 g, ₹22,526.00.
Do I add 5% on top as well? No. The 50 extras already are your finished-candle buffer. Adding 5% more to the wax double-counts and buys 2,984.94 g you do not need. The only other allowances are material-only: pour loss, spare jars for production breakage and spare wicks. See which allowance uses what.
What the 50 extras are for
Makers usually quote "1,000 plus 50" as a single cushion. It helps to split it by purpose, because each part is poured, stored and used differently. Our example split is below. It is a working assumption: use your client's requirements and your own history.
| Extra | Count | When it is poured | Where it ends up | Wax (with 3% loss) | Oil (with 3% loss) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Client samples | 10 | Before production, for approval | With the client or planner; a couple retained by you | 568.56 g | 49.44 g |
| Replacements | 25 | With the production run | Held back to replace favours with a flaw found at packing or on site | 1,421.40 g | 123.60 g |
| Transit breakage | 15 | With the production run | Shipped or carried separately, to replace breakage in delivery | 852.84 g | 74.16 g |
| All 50 | 50 | 2,842.80 g | 247.20 g |
Samples come first and often come early, sometimes before the client has even chosen the scent. If the scent is not settled when you pour samples, those candles may be in two or three different oils. Buy 15 g or 50 g sizes for the sample round and keep them out of the production oil calculation. Then only the approved scent goes into the production order. A Client Wants 1,000 Candles but Expects 20 Samples Before Final Production — Should the Sample Raw Materials be Included in My Procurement Calculation? covers whether sample materials belong in the procurement figure at all.
Replacements and breakage are poured with the main run, in the approved scent, from the same batch. That matters for a wedding: a replacement favour that smells or looks different from the one next to it is noticed. Pour them in the same session, label them, and keep them with the order until the event is over.
Which allowance uses which material
This is the step that separates a tidy order from an expensive one. Each allowance uses some materials and not others, so each belongs on some lines of the order and not others.
| Allowance | Wax | Oil | Wick | Jar | Size on this order |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 ordered + 50 extras (whole candles) | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | 1,050 candles |
| Pour loss | Yes | Yes | No | No | 3% of wax and oil |
| Jars broken in production | No | No | No | Yes | 2% → 21 jars |
| Wicks spoiled while setting | No | No | Yes | No | 5% → 53 wicks |
Read down the wax column: only whole candles and pour loss use wax. That is why the wax figure is 1,050 × 55.2 g × 1.03 and nothing else. Read down the jar column: whole candles plus production breakage, 1,050 + 21 = 1,071 jars. A transit breakage candle uses a jar too, but it is already counted among the 50. Counting it again as a jar allowance would be a double count.
The wax: 59.7 kg and the 50 kg bag
You need 59,698.80 g. Here it is covered in each of CSI's four container soy waxes, using listed bag sizes only.
| Wax | Stated fragrance ceiling | Bags | Bought | Cost | Wax per favour |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Natural Soy Pearl Wax | Not published — test 8% | 1 × 50 kg + 1 × 10 kg | 60.00 kg | ₹25,488.00 | ₹23.45 |
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 | Up to 10% | 6 × 10 kg | 60.00 kg | ₹30,444.00 | ₹28.01 |
| Luxury Soy Wax Chunks | Up to 13% | 6 × 10 kg | 60.00 kg | ₹35,994.00 | ₹33.06 |
| Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 | Not published — test 8% | 6 × 10 kg | 60.00 kg | ₹38,220.00 | ₹35.88 |
Natural Soy Pearl is the cheapest by ₹4,956.00 against CSI 464 and ₹12,732.00 against coconut soy. It is also the only one of the four without a stated fragrance ceiling that we can quote. An 8% favour is a moderate load, but moderate is not tested. Pour your ten samples in the production wax at 8% and burn at least two to a full melt pool before you commit to 60 kg. If the samples disappoint, CSI 464, rated up to 10%, is the next step up in price.
Without the 50 extras, the order would need 56,856 g, and 50 kg + 10 kg would still be the neatest cover, with about 3 kg to spare. In other words, on this order the 50 extras cost you nothing in bag count. They are covered by the rounding. That is not always true, so do the sum each time.
| Pack | Price | Per kg | 60 g favours at 55.2 g wax |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 kg | ₹450.00 | ₹450.00 | 18.12 |
| 5 kg | ₹2,124.00 | ₹424.80 | 90.58 |
| 10 kg | ₹4,248.00 | ₹424.80 | 181.16 |
| 50 kg | ₹21,240.00 | ₹424.80 | 905.80 |
Fragrance, jars and wicks
Fragrance. 1,050 × 4.8 g = 5,040 g, and 5,191.20 g with 3% loss. We use Gardenia, a white floral that suits a wedding table and is priced flat at ₹4.33 a gram from 100 g to 1 kg. 5 × 1 kg + 2 × 100 g gives 5,200 g for ₹22,526.00. Mogra and Rajnigandha would be natural choices for an Indian wedding, but both are out of stock on the pull date, so we have not planned with them. Your sample-round oils are separate: buy 15 g of each candidate.
| Pack | Price | Per gram | 60 g favours at 4.8 g |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 g | ₹105.02 | ₹7.00 | 3.12 |
| 50 g | ₹223.02 | ₹4.46 | 10.42 |
| 100 g | ₹433.00 | ₹4.33 | 20.83 |
| 500 g | ₹2,166.00 | ₹4.33 | 104.17 |
| 1 kg | ₹4,332.00 | ₹4.33 | 208.33 |
Jars. The Mini Glass Jars in black are sold in 5s (₹129.80), 25s (₹634.25), 50s (₹1,180.00) and 100s (₹2,124.00); the golden version comes in 5s and 25s. CSI does not publish their fill weight, so 60 g is our assumption for this example. Weigh one filled at your 8% blend before you buy 1,000. You need 1,050 for the candles plus 21 (2%) for glass broken in production: 1,071. 10 × 100-pack + 1 × 50-pack + 1 × 25-pack gives 1,075 for ₹23,054.25. The 100-pack works out at ₹21.24 a jar against ₹25.96 in fives, so buy the hundreds.
Wicks. One per poured favour plus about 5% for wicks spoiled while setting: 1,103. Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 in 1 × 1000-pack + 1 × 100-pack + 1 × 10-pack give 1,110 for ₹6,549.00. Confirm the wick in your jar with a burn test; CSI does not publish wick sizes per diameter. I Need 1,000 Candles and Each Uses One Wick — Should I Order Exactly 1,000 Wicks or Keep Additional Pieces for Testing, Defects and Production Mistakes? covers wick extras on a 1,000-candle order.
| Material | Calculated need | Packs | Bought | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Natural Soy Pearl Wax | 59,698.80 g | 1 × 50 kg + 1 × 10 kg | 60.00 kg | ₹25,488.00 |
| Gardenia Fragrance Oil | 5,191.20 g | 5 × 1 kg + 2 × 100 g | 5,200 g | ₹22,526.00 |
| Mini Glass Jars, Black | 1,071 jars | 10 × 100-pack + 1 × 50-pack + 1 × 25-pack | 1,075 jars | ₹23,054.25 |
| Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 | 1,103 wicks | 1 × 1000-pack + 1 × 100-pack + 1 × 10-pack | 1,110 wicks | ₹6,549.00 |
| Total | ₹77,617.25 |
That is ₹77.62 of material per delivered favour. One finished favour costs ₹23.45 of wax, ₹20.79 of Gardenia, ₹5.90 of wick and ₹21.24 for the jar: ₹71.38. The 50 extras therefore carry about ₹3,569.13 of material between them. That is the real price of the cushion, and it is worth putting in your quotation as a line the client can see, rather than hiding it.
Three ways to count the 50 wrongly
| Method | Wax figure | Against the right answer | What went wrong |
|---|---|---|---|
| Right: 1,050 × 55.2 g × 1.03 | 59,698.80 g | — | Extras as candles, loss as a percentage, once each |
| 1,000 × 60 g, extras forgotten | 60,000 g | +301.20 g | Treats finished weight as wax and ignores the 50; the errors partly cancel |
| 1,050 × 55.2 g, then +5% "to be safe", then +3% | 62,683.74 g | +2,984.94 g | The 50 extras and the 5% are the same cushion counted twice |
| 1,000 × 55.2 g + 50 × 60 g, then +3% | 59,946 g | +247.20 g | Extras costed as pure wax; small, but the oil line will be short |
The first wrong method is the most dangerous, because its answer is close enough to feel right. Here 1,000 × 60 g = 60 kg happens to land near the true figure, since forgetting the extras roughly offsets counting the oil as wax. On a different favour size or a different number of extras, it will not. I Need to Produce 2,000 × 150 g Candles — How Do I Calculate the Total Wax Requirement Without Accidentally Treating Finished Candle Weight as Pure Wax Weight? shows the same error on 2,000 candles where it does not cancel.
Handling the extras on the day
Two related calculations are worth a look. If you expect a percentage of candles to fail inspection rather than a fixed number, the maths is a gross-up, not an addition; I Have a Corporate Order for 1,000 × 200 g Candles — How Much Wax, Fragrance Oil and How Many Wicks Should I Order if Production Rejects Are Expected? works through a reject rate on 1,000 corporate candles. For a festive order ten times this size, I Have a 10,000-Piece Festive Candle Order — How Much Additional Raw Material Should I Purchase Above the Theoretical Requirement to Protect Against Production Loss? sets out how much extra is justified. The hub, 300 × 80 g wedding order, shows the percentage-backup approach for a smaller event.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. This page tells you not to add a percentage on top of your 50 extras, even though on this order the extra would fit inside the wax you are buying anyway. It also recommends our cheapest wax while pointing out that we cannot quote a fragrance ceiling for it.
Oil and wax prices are CSI live pricing, pulled on 24 September 2026. Wick and jar prices are CSI listings verified on 10 September 2026 and re-checked in the 24–25 September pull. Mogra and Rajnigandha are named as out of stock and are not priced. All figures are arithmetic on listed prices, shown to two decimals so you can check them.
The 60 g fill in the Mini Glass Jars, the 10 / 25 / 15 split of the extras, 2% jar breakage, 5% extra wicks and 3% pour loss are working assumptions, not CSI specifications or measured rates.
