Pack combinations · 1.3 kg of oil
There is no single rule for 500 g against 1 kg at CSI — every oil has its own price ladder. Price the exact covers and the round-ups, take the cheapest sensible one, and round up only when it is cheaper outright or its extra grams are cheap and will be used.
₹1,699.20
saved on 1.3 kg of Saffron Cedarwood by building on 500 g bottles instead of the 1 kg · CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
500 g or 1 kg for 1.3 kg? It depends on the oil. Price 1 kg + 3 × 100 g, 2 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g and the round-ups. For Saffron Cedarwood the 500 g route wins; for Lavender and British Rose the 1 kg route does.

When should I round up to 1.5 kg? When it is cheaper outright (Citronella: ₹4,366.00 for 1.5 kg against ₹5,192.00 for 1.3 kg), or when the extra grams are cheap and you will use them (Saffron Cedarwood 3 × 500 g: ₹2.48 a gram).

Is the 1 kg always cheaper per gram? No. For 52 of 91 oils the 1 kg is within ±1% of the 100 g. Saffron Cedarwood's 1 kg (₹6.87/g) is dearer than its 500 g (₹5.17/g).

What if the oil is new? Buy 100 g first (₹696.20 for Saffron Cedarwood, about 6 test candles) and the 1.3 kg only after the test candles pass.
The short answer
Answer: Price the three exact covers and three round-ups for your specific oil. Buy the cheapest exact cover with few bottles, unless a round-up is cheaper outright or adds grams cheaply that you will use.
Why: CSI's per-gram ladders differ by oil: some get cheaper at 1 kg, some at 500 g, some are flat, a few are dearer at 500 g. The combination that wins changes with the oil.
Method: Requirement after allowances → in-stock sizes from 100 g → exact covers and round-ups priced → marginal rate of extra grams → approval, use, storage and cash checks. Same method for wax.
1.3 kg of Saffron Cedarwood: six ways to buy it Bar length = price · CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026 · 500 g ₹5.17/g · 100 g ₹6.96/g · 1 kg ₹6.87/g 2 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g ₹7,257.00 · 1,300 g · ₹5.58/g 3 × 500 g ₹7,752.60 · 1,500 g · ₹5.17/g 1 kg + 3 × 100 g ₹8,956.20 · 1,300 g · ₹6.89/g 13 × 100 g ₹9,050.60 · 1,300 g · ₹6.96/g 1 kg + 500 g ₹9,451.80 · 1,500 g · ₹6.30/g 2 × 1 kg ₹13,735.20 · 2,000 g · ₹6.87/g Cheapest exact cover: 2 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g, ₹7,257.00. The 1 kg route costs ₹1,699.20 more for the same 1.3 kg. 3 × 500 g adds 200 g for ₹495.60 — ₹2.48 a gram, the cheapest Saffron Cedarwood grams on the list.
Six ways to buy 1.3 kg (or slightly more) of Saffron Cedarwood, longest bar dearest. The dark bar is the cheapest exact cover, built on 500 g bottles; the mid-grey bar, 3 × 500 g, adds 200 g at ₹2.48 a gram. Every option built on the 1 kg bottle costs more, because this oil's 1 kg is priced at ₹6.87 a gram against ₹5.17 for the 500 g.
Straight answer
I need 1.3 kg of a fragrance but it is available in 500 g and 1 kg packs — how do I choose the most sensible purchasing combination?
Price the real combinations for that specific oil, buy the cheapest exact cover with few bottles, and round up only when the round-up is cheaper outright or its extra grams are cheap and will be used. At CSI the exact covers for 1.3 kg are 1 kg + 3 × 100 g, 2 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g and 13 × 100 g; the round-ups are 3 × 500 g, 1 kg + 500 g and 2 × 1 kg. The winner changes with the oil. Saffron Cedarwood is cheapest as 2 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g (₹7,257.00) — its 1 kg is dearer per gram than its 500 g, so 1 kg + top-up costs ₹1,699.20 more — and 3 × 500 g adds 200 g at ₹2.48 a gram. Citronella is cheaper as 1.5 kg (₹4,366.00) than as any 1.3 kg. Lavender and British Rose are cheapest as 1 kg + 3 × 100 g; Love Spell's 500 g is its dearest size. Then check the oil is approved (if not, buy 100 g to test first), that you will use any extra soon, and that storage and cash allow it.
One line: price every combination for the oil in hand — on CSI's list the 500 g, the 1 kg or the round-up can each be the winner.
For 1.3 kg of Saffron Cedarwood Fragrance Oil, the cheapest exact cover is 2 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g at ₹7,257.00 — not anything with the 1 kg bottle, which is dearer per gram (₹6.87) than the 500 g (₹5.17). If you will use 200 g more, 3 × 500 g (₹7,752.60) buys it at ₹2.48 a gram. For other oils the answer changes — Citronella's 1.5 kg costs less than its 1.3 kg.
Buy Saffron Cedarwood

Price every combination — the answer depends on the oil

There is no general rule for 500 g against 1 kg at CSI. There are eight different answers on this page.

The instinct is to buy the 1 kg and top up — one big bottle, a few small ones, and the bigger bottle must be the better rate. On CSI's listed catalogue that instinct is right for some oils and wrong for others, because each oil has its own price ladder. For most oils, the per-gram price barely moves above 100 g; for a few, the 1 kg is genuinely cheaper; for a handful, the 500 g is the cheapest size of all; and for one or two, the 500 g is the dearest. The only way to know is to price the real combinations for the oil you are buying.

For 1.3 kg there are six sensible combinations to price: three exact covers (1 kg + 3 × 100 g, 2 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g, 13 × 100 g) and three round-ups (3 × 500 g and 1 kg + 500 g at 1.5 kg; 2 × 1 kg at 2 kg). Choose the cheapest exact cover with a sensible number of bottles — then look at the round-ups. If a round-up costs less than the exact cover, buy it; you get extra oil for less money. If a round-up's extra grams cost much less than the oil's normal per-gram price, buy it only if you will use the extra. Otherwise buy exactly.

Where does a figure like 1.3 kg come from? In this page's example it is the oil for about 77 candles of 200 g at 8% with a 2% reject allowance and 3% pour loss: 1,294.9 g, which the reader rounds to 1.3 kg. This page uses the reader's 1,300 g exactly. If your figure already includes allowances, do not add more before you choose packs. Converting a formula into a 30-day purchase order shows how the requirement is built.

The CSI principle
Cheapest exact cover first. Then ask whether a round-up is cheaper, or its extra grams cheap enough to use.
Bottle count is a real cost too — fewer, bigger bottles mean less handling — so a cover that saves a few rupees with ten more bottles is not the sensible one.

Saffron Cedarwood: where the 500 g beats the 1 kg

Saffron Cedarwood is the clearest example of why the instinct fails. Its listed prices are 15 g ₹103.84, 50 g ₹354.00, 100 g ₹696.20, 500 g ₹2,584.20 and 1 kg ₹6,867.60. Per gram that is ₹6.92, ₹7.08, ₹6.96, ₹5.17 and ₹6.87. The 500 g is the cheapest size by a distance; the 1 kg is nearly as dear as the 100 g. (Sage and Cedarwood is priced identically from 50 g up.) So for 1.3 kg, any combination built on the 1 kg loses.

1
Price the three exact covers1 kg + 3 × 100 g = ₹8,956.20. 2 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g = ₹7,257.00. 13 × 100 g = ₹9,050.60. The 500 g route is cheapest by ₹1,699.20.
2
Price the round-ups3 × 500 g (1.5 kg) = ₹7,752.60. 1 kg + 500 g (1.5 kg) = ₹9,451.80. 2 × 1 kg = ₹13,735.20.
3
Compute what the extra grams cost3 × 500 g costs ₹495.60 more than the exact cover for 200 g more: ₹2.48 a gram. That is less than half the 500 g's own rate, because it replaces three dear 100 g bottles with one cheap 500 g.
4
Decide on use, not on price aloneIf Saffron Cedarwood is an approved, repeating scent, 200 g is about 12 more candles' worth bought at the cheapest rate available — buy 3 × 500 g. If it is a one-off festive scent, buy exactly. CSI does not publish a shelf life for its oils, so do not hold oil you have no plan for.
5
Ignore the 15 g quirkThe strict cheapest cover uses twenty 15 g bottles (2 × 500 g + 20 × 15 g) and saves ₹11.80 — the 15 g is fractionally cheaper per gram than the 100 g for this oil. Twenty bottles to open, pour and record is not a sensible way to buy 300 g.
The default that costs ₹1,699.20: "1 kg plus top-up". For Saffron Cedarwood, 1 kg + 3 × 100 g is ₹8,956.20 against ₹7,257.00 for 2 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g — the same 1.3 kg. Fix: price the 500 g route every time; on CSI's catalogue it is the cheapest size for a handful of oils, and you only find out by checking.

Four patterns cover almost every oil on CSI's list. Big break at 500 g — Citronella (₹7.67 a gram at 100 g, ₹2.95 at 500 g): here 1 kg + 500 g (₹4,366.00) costs less than any exact 1.3 kg cover (₹5,192.00), so you buy 1.5 kg and pay less. 500 g cheapest, 1 kg dear — Saffron Cedarwood and Sage and Cedarwood: build on 500 g. 1 kg genuinely cheaper — Lavender, British Rose, Mango Coconut, Forever Red: 1 kg + 3 × 100 g is the exact cover; for Mango Coconut the 1.5 kg round-ups add 200 g at ₹2.41 a gram, well under its normal rate. Flat or inverted — Love Spell (its 500 g at ₹5.00 is its dearest size; 100 g and 1 kg are both about ₹4.49–₹4.50) and Vanilla Orange Blossom (no 500 g listed): the 1 kg + 3 × 100 g and 13 × 100 g covers differ by a few rupees, so choose fewer bottles.

Most oils are near-flat above 100 g
Across CSI's catalogue, of 91 oils listing both 100 g and 1 kg, the 1 kg per-gram price is within ±1% of the 100 g for 52; only 24 show a saving of 5% or more. The oils on this page were chosen because they show the exceptions. For a typical oil, the cheapest 1.3 kg is whichever exact cover uses fewest bottles — and the rest of this page is a check you do once per oil.

Sensible is not only cheapest: four more checks

The cheapest combination is the starting point. Four questions turn it into the right one.
Apply after pricing · any "no" pushes you towards the exact cover
Turning the cheapest cover into the sensible purchase
Check Points to a round-up Points to the exact cover
Is the oil approved in this candle? Yes — tested at your load, wick and jar No — test from 100 g first; production packs only after it passes
Will the extra be used soon? It is a core scent that repeats monthly It is a one-off, seasonal or client-specific scent
Bottle count Round-up uses fewer bottles Exact cover uses fewer bottles
Storage Cool, dark, sealed, and the bottle will be opened soon Hot room, or no plan for the opened bottle — CSI publishes no oil shelf life
Cash this month Spare after wax and jars Needed for jars, a launch or festive stock

The first check overrides the rest. If Saffron Cedarwood is new to your range, the sensible 1.3 kg purchase today is none: buy one 100 g (₹696.20) — enough for 6.1 test candles at 8% with loss — and buy the 1.3 kg after the test candles pass. Buying full fragrance quantity before the client approves is the same rule for corporate orders, and the minimum-pack post covers the case where even 100 g is more than a test needs.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. For most of our oils, the 1 kg bottle is not cheaper per gram than the 100 g — the catalogue-wide figure is within ±1% for 52 of 91 oils. For Saffron Cedarwood the 1 kg is dearer per gram than the 500 g by ₹1.70. Buy the 500 g route for Saffron Cedarwood, buy exactly for flat-priced oils, and only round up where this page's arithmetic says the extra grams are cheap.

The festive batch, priced

Here is the whole CSI order around the 1.3 kg: 77 candles of 200 g at 8% in White Matte jars (the 200 g fill is the reader's weighed figure — CSI does not publish this jar's fill), Luxury Soy Wax Chunks as the wax, Eco Thin C1 as the reader's tested wick. The allowance stack is the series' order: no test candles (the formula is approved), 2% rejects on consumables, 3% pour loss on wax and oil, 1% breakage on glass, then real in-stock packs.

Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November 2026. Festive scents are where 1.3 kg-style requirements appear — and where a round-up either becomes next month's stock or sits unopened until next year. Send us the oils and quantities on WhatsApp and we will price the exact cover and the round-ups for each. Quantities beyond the listed 1 kg are quoted on WhatsApp; no volume discount figure is published.

The method for any awkward oil quantity

Write the requirement once, after allowances. List the oil's in-stock sizes from 100 g up (15 g and 50 g only if the bottle count stays sensible). Price every exact cover and the nearest round-ups. Take the cheapest exact cover with few bottles; then check whether any round-up is cheaper outright (buy it) or adds grams at well under the oil's normal rate (buy it only if you will use them). Finally run the four checks — approval, use, storage, cash. The whole exercise takes five minutes per oil and, as Saffron Cedarwood shows, can be worth well over a thousand rupees.

When one oil feeds several products, add their requirements before choosing packs — combining three products' BOMs for one oil and candles and wax melts in the same fragrances show how. When several oils are bought at once, a four-fragrance corporate order and one consolidated monthly order keep each oil's rounding separate. Carried grams go on the next sheet as opening stock — the reorder sheet has a column for them.

Price the 500 g route before you reach for the 1 kg. On some oils it is the cheapest size we sell.

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. It would suit us if you always bought the 1 kg bottle. This page shows that for many of our oils the 1 kg is not cheaper per gram, that for Saffron Cedarwood it is dearer than the 500 g, and that a new oil should be bought in 100 g until it passes your tests.

Oil prices are CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 4 October 2026; wax prices are CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026; jar, wick and sticker prices were re-checked 4 October 2026. Every combination, per-gram rate, marginal rate of extra grams and order line is computed and shown to two decimals. The catalogue-wide figures (52 of 91 oils within ±1%; 24 with a saving of 5% or more) are from the same 24 September pull.

The 1.3 kg requirement is the reader's figure. The 77-candle batch, the 8% load, the 200 g fill, the 2% reject, 3% pour-loss and 1% breakage allowances and the lid and label prices are labelled examples or working assumptions. CSI publishes no shelf life or throw data for its oils. For help pricing combinations, larger quantities, GST invoicing, MSDS or IFRA documentation, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Is it cheaper to buy fragrance oil in 1 kg bottles?
Sometimes. At CSI, for 52 of 91 oils listing both, the 1 kg per-gram price is within ±1% of the 100 g; 24 oils save 5% or more. Some oils are cheapest at 500 g, and a few are dearer at 500 g than at 100 g. Check the oil.
How do I buy 1.3 kg of fragrance oil?
Price 1 kg + 3 × 100 g, 2 × 500 g + 3 × 100 g and 13 × 100 g, plus the 1.5 kg and 2 kg round-ups, for your oil. Choose the cheapest exact cover with few bottles unless a round-up is cheaper or adds grams you will use cheaply.
Why is the 500 g cheaper than the 1 kg for some oils?
That is how those oils are listed. On the 24 September pull, Saffron Cedarwood and Sage and Cedarwood were ₹5.17 a gram at 500 g and ₹6.87 at 1 kg. Always compute the per-gram price of each size.
Should I buy extra fragrance oil if it is cheaper per gram?
Only if you will use it soon. CSI does not publish a shelf life for its oils; keep bottles sealed, cool and dark, and do not hold extra for a scent that is not approved or not repeating.
Does CSI sell fragrance oil in 5 kg?
Oils are listed up to 1 kg per bottle. Larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp; no discount figure is published.
Should I buy the full quantity of a new fragrance oil before testing?
No. Buy 100 g (or 15 g/50 g where listed), pour test candles at your load, wick and jar, and buy production quantity only after they pass.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — Eco Candle Wicks, Premium Candle Wicking Needle and Bamboo Wick Holder. They are general product reviews, not assessments of the guidance set out here. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me and wording is unedited. "Verified buyer" appears only on the three reviews Judge.me recorded as verified — Monika Deep, Subhankar Roy and Sneha Tamang; the reviews from Ashwini, LJ and Lalitha Jagan are published but not recorded as verified, and carry no badge.

Non-price figures and assumptions: The 1.3 kg requirement is the reader's figure. CSI convention: load is a share of finished weight (200 g at 8% = 16 g oil + 184 g wax). The 200 g White Matte fill is the reader's weighed figure; CSI does not publish that jar's fill. The 77-candle batch, 2% rejects, 3% pour loss, 1% breakage, the lid and label prices are labelled examples. Catalogue-wide per-gram statistics are from the 24 September pull. CSI's product page for Luxury Soy Wax Chunks states a 13% maximum load and a cure of at least 48 hours. CSI publishes no lead times, delivery times, minimum order quantities, volume-discount figures, jar internal diameters or fill weights (except the Golden Aluminium Tin's 85 g and the Heart Cutout Velvet Jar's 50 g), wick-size-per-diameter charts, throw data or shelf-life figures for its oils. Material costs exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November.
