Production calculator · Silicone-mould candles
When every candle in the order is a different shape, there is no 'per candle' figure to multiply. There is a list of shapes, a count for each and a weighed weight for each. Multiply row by row, add the rows, and you have a wax order you can defend.
11,983.23 g
Soy Pillar Wax to order for 100 candles in five shapes (11,825 g finished, 8% labelled test load, one test pour per design, 5% loss) · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How do I calculate wax when every mould candle weighs something different? Build a weight table: one row per design, quantity × weighed finished weight, then add the rows. In our example the five shapes total 11,825 g of finished candle for 100 pieces, an average of 118.25 g, and no single shape weighs that.

Where do the weights come from? From the scale. Pour one test candle per design and weigh it finished, or water-fill each mould and convert with a labelled wax factor first. My Silicone Mould Holds 240 g of Water — How Do I Estimate How Much Pillar Wax Is Required for Each Finished Candle? covers the conversion. CSI does not publish mould or cavity weights.

How much wax is that? At an 8% labelled test load: 10,879 g of wax net. With one test pour per design and a 5% loss allowance, 11,983.23 g. That is 1 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg of Soy Pillar Wax, ₹7,200.00.

Can I just use an average weight? Only a quantity-weighted one. The simple average of the five shapes is 116 g, the weighted average 118.25 g. On a bigger order, or a more lopsided mix, that gap turns into kilograms. Three wrong methods are compared below.
The short answer
Method: Weigh one finished candle per design → quantity × weight per row → add the rows → add one test pour per design → apply the loss % → split oil and wax at your load → round to wax bags.
Worked example: 25 roses × 165 g, 20 peonies × 140 g, 15 oranges × 120 g, 20 teddies × 95 g, 20 sunflowers × 60 g = 11,825 g finished for 100 candles (illustrative weights).
Order: 11,983.23 g of Soy Pillar Wax (1 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg, ₹7,200.00) and 1,042.02 g of oil at 8% (British Rose 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 50 g, ₹3,280.40).
100 mould candles, five shapes — where the 11,825 g of finished weight goes share of weight Rose 25 × 165 g Peony 20 × 140 g Orange 15 × 120 g Teddy 20 × 95 g Sunflower 20 × 60 g Finished weight for 100 candles, by method 100 g guess 10,000 g rose only 16,500 g simple avg 11,600 g weight table 11,825 g Weighed fills are illustrative. The rose is a quarter of the candles but 35% of the wax; the sunflower is a fifth of the candles and 10%.
Top: each design's share of the total finished weight. Bottom: the finished weight each method would have planned for 100 candles. The weight table is the only method that reflects both the shape weights and how many of each you are making. The weighed fills are illustrative. Use your own.
Straight answer
I need 100 silicone-mould candles, but each finished shape has a different weight. How do I calculate wax requirements accurately before buying bulk wax?
Stop looking for a per-candle weight, because there is not one. Weigh one finished candle of each design and write a table: design, quantity, weight, and quantity × weight. Then add the rows. In our worked example, 25 Big Rose at 165 g, 20 Peony at 140 g, 15 Orange at 120 g, 20 Teddy Bear at 95 g and 20 Sunflower at 60 g total 11,825 g of finished candle. The weights are illustrative, so weigh your own. The load is a share of that finished weight. At an 8% fragrance load, which is a labelled test starting point because CSI publishes no fragrance ceiling for pillar wax, the table holds 946 g of oil and 10,879 g of wax. Add one test pour per design (the candle you weighed) and a 5% loss allowance, and order 11,983.23 g of wax and 1,042.02 g of oil. In Soy Pillar Wax that is 1 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg for ₹7,200.00. Do not use "about 100 g each" (10,000 g) or the heaviest shape × 100 (16,500 g). One under-buys and the other over-buys, and a simple average of the five shapes ignores how many of each you are making.
One line: no shape in the order weighs the average, so multiply each row and add them up.
Mould candles need a wax that releases cleanly and holds its shape. Soy Pillar Wax is CSI's soy wax made for pillar and designer candles: ₹300.00 for 500 g, ₹600.00 for 1 kg, ₹3,000.00 for 5 kg and ₹6,000.00 for 10 kg. That is a flat ₹0.60 a gram at every size, so a combined order costs the same per gram whichever bags you round to.

The weight table

A jar order has one candle weight. A mould order has as many weights as it has shapes, and the wax order is the sum of all of them.

Here is the example order: 100 decorative candles across five of CSI's silicone moulds. Each finished weight is illustrative. It is the kind of number you get by pouring one candle in each mould and weighing it after it has set and been trimmed. CSI does not publish mould or cavity weights, so every figure in the weight column must come from your own scale.

Illustrative weighed finished weights · 8% labelled test load · load = share of finished weight
Weight table for 100 mould candles in five shapes
Design (mould) Qty Weighed finished weight Qty × weight Share of total Oil at 8% Wax at 92%
Big Rose 25 165 g 4,125 g 34.9% 330 g 3,795 g
Peony (big) 20 140 g 2,800 g 23.7% 224 g 2,576 g
Orange 15 120 g 1,800 g 15.2% 144 g 1,656 g
Teddy Bear (small) 20 95 g 1,900 g 16.1% 152 g 1,748 g
Sunflower 20 60 g 1,200 g 10.1% 96 g 1,104 g
Total 100 avg 118.25 g 11,825 g 100.0% 946 g 10,879 g

Read the share column before anything else. The Big Rose is a quarter of the candles but 34.9% of the wax. The Sunflower is a fifth of the candles and only 10.1% of the wax. If the client changes the mix, say more roses and fewer sunflowers, the wax changes far more than the candle count suggests. Every change to the order is a change to one row of the table, and the total updates itself. That is the practical reason to keep the table rather than a single "candles × average" figure.

The oil and wax columns use CSI's convention: the load is a share of the finished weight, so a 165 g rose at 8% is 13.20 g of oil and 151.80 g of wax. The 8% is a labelled starting point for tests, not a specification. CSI publishes no fragrance ceiling for Soy Pillar Wax, so check the product page or ask on WhatsApp for the wax maker's stated maximum. Freestanding candles commonly show sweating or soft surfaces when a load is pushed too far, so test before scaling. If the order is unscented, the oil column is zero and the wax column equals the finished column. I Need 1,000 Decorative Mould Candles with No Fragrance — How Much Pillar Wax Should I Buy if Each Finished Candle Weighs 120 g? works through that case.

Keep the table in a spreadsheet, one row per design
Columns: design, mould, quantity, weighed weight, date weighed, wax, load, and quantity × weight. Add a totals row. When a client adds 10 peonies, you change one cell. When you switch wax, you re-weigh one candle per design and update the weight column. The same sheet becomes your reorder record for next season.

Getting a weight for every shape

There are two ways to get the weight column. Use the first when you have not poured the shape yet, and the second to confirm it. Both end at the scale.

1
Water-fill each mould (estimate)Seal the wick hole, set the mould upright in its support and fill it with water to the pour line. Pour the water into a tared jug and weigh it: grams of water ≈ millilitres. Multiply by a labelled wax factor of about 0.86–0.90 for an estimate of the wax weight. The factor varies by wax, temperature and shape. My Silicone Mould Holds 240 g of Water — How Do I Estimate How Much Pillar Wax Is Required for Each Finished Candle? works through this for a 240 g water fill.
2
Pour one test candle per design (the real figure)Pour each mould once, at your production load and temperature, including any top-up pour your process needs for sinkholes around the wick. Let it set completely, unmould, trim the wick and level the base as you would for sale.
3
Weigh the finished candleThis weight goes in the table. It already includes the top-up and excludes the trimmings, so it is exactly what the customer receives.
4
Note what was lost on the wayWeigh what you poured, then weigh the finished candle, and write down the difference: drips, the top-up surplus, the trimmed base. That difference is your loss figure for that design. I Need 1,000 Fragranced Mould Candles — How Do I Calculate Wax and Fragrance When Each Candle Loses a Small Amount During Trimming and Finishing? shows how to build trimming loss into the oil and wax order.
5
Keep the test candles as samplesThe five test pours are real candles. They become your client samples or photography pieces, which is why they sit in the order as one extra unit per design rather than as waste.
Weighing the mould full of liquid wax. It is tempting to weigh a filled mould and subtract the empty mould's weight. Two things go wrong. Liquid wax contracts as it cools, so the finished candle weighs less than the liquid you poured, often with a sinkhole that needs a top-up. And the silicone mould flexes, so it may be holding more than its resting shape. Weigh the finished, trimmed candle. It is the only weight that tells you what the order actually consumes per piece.
The weight you put in the table is the one the customer holds, not the one in the jug.

Three wrong methods, compared

Each method below takes the same 100 candles through the same allowances: one test pour per design, 5% loss, 8% load. Only the way of arriving at the total finished weight changes. The wax needed is then rounded to Soy Pillar Wax bags.

Weight table (quantity-weighted) 11,825 g 11,983.23 g 1 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg ₹7,200.00 The plan

"About 100 g each" is the most common guess, and it runs short by nearly two kilos. You find out in the middle of the roses, which are poured first because they are the heaviest and the slowest to set. Weighing only the biggest shape does the opposite and buys wax for candles that do not exist. The simple average is the subtle one. Here it lands close to the real figure because the mix happens to be fairly balanced. Change the order to 60 roses and 10 each of the rest, and the simple average stays at 116 g while the real average rises to 140.50 g. The weighted table follows the order, and the simple average does not.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. The "weigh the biggest shape" method buys 1 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g and feels safe. It is also 4,516.05 g more wax than the table needs, paid for now and used at some unknown later date. At a flat ₹0.60 a gram there is no bulk saving to justify buying early, because Soy Pillar Wax costs the same per gram in a 500 g bag as in a 10 kg bag. Buy what the table says, plus the stated allowance. If you want stock for next month, that is a separate decision with its own number.

From the table to the wax order

The order of operations is the same as for any production run, with one change. The test allowance is per design, because each shape needs its own first pour. Five shapes means five test candles, one of each weight, not 5% of the count.

Tests = one of each design · 5% loss (working assumption) · 8% labelled test load
Allowance stack for the five-shape order
Step Finished weight Oil (8%) Wax (92%)
Weight table (100 candles) 11,825 g 946 g 10,879 g
+ one test pour per design (5 candles) 12,405 g 992.40 g 11,412.60 g
+ 5% loss 13,025.25 g 1,042.02 g 11,983.23 g
Rounded to packs — 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 50 g (British Rose) 1 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg (Soy Pillar Wax)

One combined wax order covers all five shapes, because they all pour from the same Soy Pillar Wax. That is the advantage of the table over separate per-design orders. You round once, at 11,983.23 g → 12,000 g, rather than five times. Rounding each design to its own bag would leave five half-used bags. When the designs use different waxes, or some are scented and some are not, the wax order has to be split. I'm Producing Several Different Mould Candle Designs — How Do I Calculate the Combined Wax Requirement When Every Mould Has a Different Fill Weight? builds that version, with per-design allowances and mould cycles, and I Want to Buy Enough Wax for Both Jar Candles and Mould Candles — How Should I Calculate Quantities Separately When the Two Products Use Different Waxes? covers jar and mould candles on two different waxes.

The oil is also one order if all 100 candles share a scent. If each design carries its own fragrance, split the oil column by design, round each scent separately, and expect the rounding surplus to grow with the number of scents. The wax stays combined either way. For this example we use one scent across the range: British Rose, a sensible match for roses and peonies and one of the few oils with a real 1 kg saving (10.3% per gram against the 100 g).

The wick line is a single Braided Wick Roll: 61 m of braided wick with 100 tabs, ₹706.82. Across 105 candles that is about 58 cm of wick each, far more than any of these shapes needs. Freestanding mould candles are usually wicked through the mould's hole, so the tabs are optional. Wick size for each shape is not published. A 165 g rose and a 60 g sunflower will not burn well on the same wick, so burn-test each design before the run. The five moulds are listed at their CSI prices (the Teddy Bear listing is titled Teddy Bear Mould Small). With one mould per design, 25 roses means 25 pour-and-set cycles on one mould. If your deadline is tight, I'm Producing Several Different Mould Candle Designs — How Do I Calculate the Combined Wax Requirement When Every Mould Has a Different Fill Weight? shows how to work out how many moulds each design needs.

Colour, if the range needs it. Roses and peonies often go out coloured. CSI lists Red Dye Chips at ₹250.00 and Candle Dye Liquid Red from ₹236.00 for 15 g. Dye doses per kilo of wax are not published, so follow the dye's product page and colour-match on the test pour. Coloured and uncoloured designs still share one wax order, because dye is added per batch at the melter.
The CSI principle
One row per shape, one order for the wax.
Weigh every design, multiply by its quantity, add the rows, then apply tests and loss once to the total. The table does the averaging for you, weighted by what you are actually making.
Mould candles are popular for Diwali (8 November 2026) and the November–February wedding season. If your order runs to several hundred pieces or needs more than the 10 kg Soy Pillar Wax bags listed, send us your weight table. We will quote wax, oil and wicks together, with GST invoicing, on WhatsApp.

If you already have a fixed quantity of wax and want to know how many candles it makes, the table works in reverse. Divide the wax by the table's wax-per-candle mix, then take off the allowances. I Have 25 Kg of Pillar Wax — How Many 150 g Mould Candles Can I Realistically Produce After Accounting for Spills and Trimming Waste? does this for 25 kg of pillar wax. For the individual mould conversion from water to wax, see My Silicone Mould Holds 240 g of Water — How Do I Estimate How Much Pillar Wax Is Required for Each Finished Candle?. For unscented decorative runs, where the wax column is the finished column, see I Need 1,000 Decorative Mould Candles with No Fragrance — How Much Pillar Wax Should I Buy if Each Finished Candle Weighs 120 g?.

Three more pages extend the table. I Want to Make 1,000 Wax Melt Clamshells but Don't Know Their Actual Fill Weight — How Should I Measure Capacity Before Calculating Wax Requirements? shows the same weigh-first discipline for melt containers. I Need 500 Bubble Candles for Wedding Favours — How Much Pillar Wax Should I Purchase After Accounting for Failed Unmoulding and Broken Candles? adds release failures and breakage for a single fragile shape. My Corporate Order Uses Three Candle Sizes and Four Fragrances — How Do I Create a Raw-Material Requirement Sheet Without Double-Counting Wax or Fragrance? builds a requirement sheet for three candle sizes and four fragrances without double-counting.

There is no average candle in a mixed mould order. There are five real ones, and a table that adds them up.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. We sell the moulds on this page, but we do not publish their weights. We would rather you weighed one candle per shape than ordered from a number we cannot stand behind. The page also argues against the over-buying method that would sell us more wax.

Wax, oil, wick roll, mould, sealer and dye prices are CSI live pricing pulled on 24–25 September 2026. Out-of-stock items are not offered. The five finished weights are illustrative, chosen to show the method, not measurements of CSI moulds. Every total built on them is arithmetic shown to two decimals.

The 8% load is a labelled test starting point. No fragrance ceiling for Soy Pillar Wax is published in our data, so check the product page or ask. The one-test-per-design allowance, 5% loss and 0.86–0.90 wax factor are working assumptions. Wick size per shape is not published, so burn-test it. Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate wax for silicone mould candles of different sizes?
List every design with its quantity and its weighed finished weight, multiply each row, and add the rows. Split the total into oil and wax at your load (oil = weight × load). Add one test pour per design and your loss allowance, then round the combined wax to bags.
How much does a silicone candle mould hold?
CSI does not publish mould or cavity weights. Fill the sealed mould with water to the pour line and weigh the water (grams ≈ ml). Multiply by roughly 0.86–0.90 for a wax estimate, then confirm by weighing one finished candle. My Silicone Mould Holds 240 g of Water — How Do I Estimate How Much Pillar Wax Is Required for Each Finished Candle? works through an example.
Can I use an average weight for mixed mould candles?
Only a quantity-weighted average: total finished weight ÷ number of candles. In the example that is 118.25 g. A simple average of the shapes (116 g) ignores how many of each you are making, and drifts further from the real figure the more lopsided the mix.
What wax is best for silicone mould candles?
For freestanding shapes, use a wax sold for pillars and moulds. CSI's Soy Pillar Wax is made for pillar and designer candles and costs ₹0.60 a gram at every size. Container waxes are formulated for jars and may not release or hold shape as well. Test before a large run.
How much fragrance oil can I add to pillar wax?
CSI publishes no fragrance ceiling for Soy Pillar Wax. Check the product page or ask on WhatsApp for the wax maker's stated maximum. This page uses 8% as a labelled test starting point. In general practice, freestanding candles can sweat or soften if the load is pushed too far, so test before scaling.
Should I buy extra wax for mould candle test pours?
Yes: one test pour per design, because each shape needs its own first pour. That test candle is also where your finished-weight figure comes from. Then add a loss allowance. We use 5% as a working assumption. In the example the tests add 580 g of finished candle.
Weigh, tabulate, order once
11,983.23 g of Soy Pillar Wax covers 100 candles in five shapes, because the table says so, not because the average does.
Soy Pillar Wax from ₹300.00 for 500 g to ₹6,000.00 for 10 kg, decorative silicone moulds from ₹295.00, braided wick roll ₹706.82 and fragrance oils from 15 g. Send us your weight table and we will quote the lot.
