92 kg is exactly 500 candles of 200 g at 8%. A 100 kg order gives 8 kg of headroom — enough for a lean run, but a typical run's loss, tests, rejects and replacements need 100.28 kg. Order from your own loss record, rounded to real packs.
100.28 kg
gross need for 92 kg net on typical example allowances · CSI 464 sells it to the kilo · CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Is 100 kg enough for 92 kg of production? Only if your runs are lean. Lean example allowances need 97.24 kg; typical 100.28 kg; cautious 103.78 kg.

How many candles is 92 kg? Exactly 500 candles of 200 g at 8% (184 g wax each).

What should I order with no loss record? The typical gross need: CSI 464 10 × 10 kg + 1 × 1 kg (₹51,247.40) or Chunks 21 × 5 kg (₹62,895.00).

What if a whole batch fails? A scrapped 5 kg batch pushes every scenario past 100 kg — one reason a confirmed run should carry a real buffer.
The short answer
Answer: Order net need + your own allowance record, rounded up to real packs. 100 kg suits lean runs only.
Scenarios: Lean 97.24 kg · typical 100.28 kg · cautious 103.78 kg (labelled example allowances).
Rounding: CSI 464 rounds to the kilo at ₹507.40/kg; Chunks rounds in 5 kg bags at ₹599.00/kg (10 kg bag ₹599.90/kg).
Does 100 kg cover a 92 kg run? It depends on your own loss record 500 candles × 184 g = 92 kg net · each bar adds loss, tests, rejects, replacements (labelled examples) · scale zoomed to 90–106 kg Lean net 97.24 kg Typical net 100.28 kg Cautious net 103.78 kg 100 kg order 90 92 94 96 98 100 102 104 106 pour loss test candles rejects replacements Lean: 2.76 kg spare at 100 kg. Typical: 0.28 kg short. Cautious: 3.78 kg short. A single scrapped 5 kg batch would push even the lean case over 100 kg — which is why the order follows your record, not a round number.
Each bar starts at the 92 kg net need (500 candles × 184 g) and adds pour loss, test candles, rejects and replacements for three labelled example scenarios. Only the lean case stops inside the 100 kg line; typical and cautious runs need a little more. Your own loss record decides which bar is yours.
Straight answer
I need 92 kg of soy wax for confirmed production — should I order 100 kg or more to cover tests, losses and replacements?
100 kg is enough only if your runs are lean; otherwise order a little more — to your own loss record, rounded to real packs. At 200 g candles and 8% load, 92 kg is exactly 500 candles, so 100 kg gives 8 kg (8.7%) of headroom. That headroom has to pay for pour and process loss, test candles, re-poured rejects and transit replacements. With labelled example allowances a lean run needs 97.24 kg (fits), a typical run 100.28 kg and a cautious one 103.78 kg — and a single scrapped 5 kg batch would push even the lean case over 100. If you have no record, order the typical gross need: CSI 464 is ₹507.40 a kilo from 1 kg to 10 kg, so that is 10 × 10 kg + 1 × 1 kg (₹51,247.40); Chunks round in 5 kg bags to 21 × 5 kg (₹62,895.00). Check the first bag against a control before the run, and record wax issued, candles shipped, rejects, tests and replacements so the next order uses your numbers, not ours.
One line: order net need plus your record, rounded up — not the nearest round number.
Order the gross need, not the round number. On typical example allowances the run needs 100.28 kg — just over 100. In Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 you can buy that to the kilo: 10 × 10 kg + 1 × 1 kg = ₹51,247.40 at ₹507.40 a kilo. In Luxury Soy Wax Chunks it rounds to 21 × 5 kg = ₹62,895.00.

The short answer: 100 kg is enough only if your losses are lean

Ninety-two kilos at 184 g is exactly 500 candles. The question is what the other eight kilos have to pay for.

A confirmed run of 92 kg of wax is a tidy number: at 200 g candles and an 8% load (184 g of wax each) it is exactly 500 candles. Ordering 100 kg gives you 8 kg of headroom — 8.7% over the net need. Whether that is enough depends on four lines that every run spends wax on: pour and process loss, test candles, cosmetic rejects that are re-poured, and replacements for candles that break or fail in transit. The right order is the sum of those lines, rounded up to real packs.

With labelled example allowances, a lean run (3% loss, 6 test candles, 1% rejects, 0.5% replacements) needs 97.24 kg and fits inside 100 kg with 2.76 kg to spare. A typical run (4%, 10, 2%, 1%) needs 100.28 kg — 0.28 kg over. A cautious run (5%, 14, 3%, 2%) needs 103.78 kg — 3.78 kg over, about 21 candles' worth. So 100 kg is a reasonable order only if your own records say your runs are lean. Otherwise order to the gross need — on CSI 464's flat ladder, to the nearest kilogram.

That is the whole answer, and it rests on something only you have: your own loss record. If you have run batches before, count how much wax you bought against how many saleable candles you shipped; that ratio is your real allowance and it beats every example on this page. If you have not, use the typical case and keep a record this time. The 75 kg post builds the same stack for a one-off order bought in cartons; this page is about a confirmed run where the headroom question is "is the round number enough?".

The CSI principle
The order is the net need plus your record, rounded up. Not the nearest round number.
Round numbers feel safe. Your own loss history is what actually is.

The headroom test: what 8 kg has to cover

The table lays out each allowance line for the three example scenarios and sets the total against the 8 kg of headroom that a 100 kg order gives you. Percentages apply to the net 92 kg; test candles are whole candles at 184 g. Every figure is a labelled example — replace them with your own.

92 kg net = 500 × 184 g · allowances are labelled examples · headroom at 100 kg = 8 kg
Allowance lines against the 100 kg headroom
Line Lean Typical Cautious
Pour and process loss 3% · 2.76 kg 4% · 3.68 kg 5% · 4.60 kg
Test candles (184 g each) 6 · 1.10 kg 10 · 1.84 kg 14 · 2.58 kg
Cosmetic rejects re-poured 1% · 0.92 kg 2% · 1.84 kg 3% · 2.76 kg
Transit / customer replacements 0.5% · 0.46 kg 1% · 0.92 kg 2% · 1.84 kg
Total allowance 5.24 kg 8.28 kg 11.78 kg
Gross need 97.24 kg 100.28 kg 103.78 kg
Against a 100 kg order 2.76 kg spare 0.28 kg short 3.78 kg short
If one 5 kg batch is scrapped 2.24 kg short 5.28 kg short 8.78 kg short

The last row is the one to think about. A single batch that has to be scrapped entirely — a contaminated melt, a wrong oil added, a pour that sets badly enough to be unusable — consumes 5 kg at once and takes every scenario past 100 kg. Not every reject is a total loss: candles with cosmetic faults can often be melted down and re-poured, recovering much of their wax (an example recovery of 50% is used nowhere in the totals above, so the stack is slightly conservative). But a confirmed run should be able to survive one bad batch without an emergency order.

Counting test candles twice — or not at all. Some makers add a percentage for "testing" on top of a loss percentage that already includes their test pours; others forget the burned candles entirely because they are not "lost" wax. Fix: keep tests as a separate line in whole candles — the 3 + 3 check before the run, the first, middle and last candles pulled during it, and any full-life candle — and keep the loss percentage for melter, jug and spill losses only.

Rounding to real packs: 100, 101, 104 or 105 kg

On a flat ladder, the buffer can be bought by the kilo. On a stepped one, it comes in five-kilo pieces.

Once you know your gross need, round it up to packs you can actually buy. The two example waxes behave differently. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is ₹507.40 a kilo in every bag from 1 kg to 10 kg, so you can stop at the nearest kilogram above your need. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks is cheapest above 1 kg in 5 kg bags (₹599.00 a kilo; the 10 kg bag is ₹599.90), so the order steps in 5 kg units. CSI lists no 100 kg pack; 100 kg is ten 10 kg bags or twenty 5 kg bags, and anything above the listed bags is a WhatsApp quote with no published discount.

CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026 · gross needs from the example scenarios
What each scenario buys in each wax
Scenario Gross need CSI 464 (1 kg steps) Chunks (5 kg steps)
Net only (no buffer) 92.00 kg 9 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg · ₹46,680.80 19 × 5 kg · ₹56,905.00
Lean 97.24 kg 9 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 3 × 1 kg · ₹49,725.20 20 × 5 kg · ₹59,900.00
Typical 100.28 kg 10 × 10 kg + 1 × 1 kg · ₹51,247.40 21 × 5 kg · ₹62,895.00
Cautious 103.78 kg 10 × 10 kg + 4 × 1 kg · ₹52,769.60 21 × 5 kg · ₹62,895.00
The round 100 kg — 10 × 10 kg · ₹50,740.00 20 × 5 kg · ₹59,900.00

In CSI 464 the difference between the round 100 kg and the typical gross need is one 1 kg bag (₹507.40); the cautious case adds four (₹2,029.60). In Chunks the step from 100 kg to 105 kg is one 5 kg bag (₹2,995.00), which covers both the typical and the cautious cases. Those are small sums against a run of 500 candles carrying ₹242.94 to ₹259.79 of materials each.

Leftover wax is not lost if the wax is your regular wax
If you buy 105 kg of Chunks and the run turns out lean, you finish with about 7.76 kg spare. If you make candles in this wax every month, that is simply the start of next month's stock — at an example 1.5% monthly holding rate it costs about ₹69.69 a month to carry. CSI 464's product page states a 60-month shelf life in cool, dry storage. Rotate it first in, first out.

Build your own allowance record from this run

The examples on this page are only a starting point. The most valuable thing a 92 kg run can give you, besides 500 candles, is your own loss record. Write down five numbers and the next order will not need any examples at all.

1
Wax issuedWeigh every bag you open into the melter. The total is the wax the run actually used, not the wax you bought.
2
Candles poured and candles shippedCount both. The difference is rejects plus tests plus replacements. At 184 g each, every missing candle is 184 g of wax.
3
Rejects re-pouredCount candles melted down and re-poured, and weigh any wax that could not be recovered.
4
Tests burnedList every candle burned for checks — before the run and pulled during it — so the test line is exact next time.
5
Replacements sentCount replacements for breakage or complaints over the following weeks. This line arrives late; leave space for it.
6
Compute your real allowance(Wax issued + wax for replacements − net wax in shipped candles) ÷ net wax. That percentage replaces every example on this page next time.
Ordering every run at a round number forever. A maker who once got away with 100 kg for 92 kg orders keeps doing it, until a humid week doubles the rejects and the run stops 40 candles short of a confirmed order. Fix: record the real allowance on every run and order from it. If the record shows lean runs, 100 kg is fine — and now you know why.

Before the run: the first bag against a control

The test-candle line in the stack is not decoration. Before 500 candles are poured, pour three from the first bag of this delivery beside three controls from your retained, approved wax — same oil lot, wick, jar and day — and score them. CSI publishes no lot numbers or batch-consistency data, so this is how you know the delivery behaves like the wax you approved.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. We could tell every 92 kg customer to buy 110 kg "to be safe". The arithmetic says 100 kg is enough for a lean run, 101 kg of CSI 464 covers a typical one, and 105 kg of Chunks covers even the cautious case. Buy what your record says — and if your record says lean, buy the round 100 kg.

For the reader who asked: if you have no loss record, order the typical gross need — 10 × 10 kg + 1 × 1 kg of CSI 464 (₹51,247.40) or 21 × 5 kg of Chunks (₹62,895.00) — check the first bag against a control, and record the five numbers above as you go. Next time, order from your record. Whether wholesale wax moves COGS on a 1,000-candle order looks at the money side of a run this size, and setting a reorder point turns repeat runs into a system.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. "Buy 110 kg to be safe" would be an easy upsell. We show the allowance lines, tell you that 100 kg is enough for a lean run, and recommend building your own loss record so that future orders need no examples from us.

Wax prices are CSI live pricing re-checked on 1 October 2026; oil prices were pulled on 24 September 2026; wick and jar prices are Blog 760's, verified 10 September 2026. Allowance stacks, pack roundings and per-candle costs are arithmetic shown to two decimals.

The lean, typical and cautious allowances, the scrapped 5 kg batch, the 1.5% holding rate, the 200 g candle at 8% and the check practice are labelled examples. Frequently asked questions

How much extra wax should I order for production?
Your own record of loss, tests, rejects and replacements, as a percentage of net wax. Without one, labelled example totals here run from about 5.7% (lean) to 12.8% (cautious) on 92 kg.
How many candles does 92 kg of soy wax make?
500 candles of 200 g at 8% fragrance load, at 184 g of wax each — before any allowance.
Can I buy 101 kg of soy wax from CSI?
Yes in CSI 464, which is ₹507.40 a kilo from 1 kg to 10 kg: ten 10 kg bags and one 1 kg bag. Chunks are cheapest in 5 kg steps.
What happens to leftover candle wax?
If it is your regular wax, it becomes next month's stock. CSI 464's product page states a 60-month shelf life in cool, dry storage; rotate first in, first out.
Can I re-melt rejected soy candles?
Often, for cosmetic faults — remove wicks and debris and re-pour. How much wax you recover depends on the fault; record it rather than assuming.
How do I calculate my wax loss percentage?
(Wax issued + wax for replacements − net wax in shipped candles) ÷ net wax, recorded over a whole run. It replaces any example allowance.
