Wick change · Emergency order
Essential: every safety line against a control, time to full pool, one blind throw score, and a full-life burn of the chosen wick — including the last burn. Compressible: the number of cure checkpoints, the pace (two sessions a day), and the end-of-life screen (shallow pours). On an example schedule it fits, with 4 days left for packing and any small delay.
31 days
from 29 Sep to an example 30 Oct delivery · test kit ₹3,445.60 in CSI materials · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
What tests are essential before using an emergency wick? Every combustion line against a control, through the full life of the chosen wick. Flame, soot, mushrooming, jar-side reading, time to full pool, end of life — and one blind throw score.

How do I test faster? Test two candidates in parallel, burn two sessions a day with full cool-down, use one cure checkpoint and shallow-pour candles to screen end-of-life early.

How long does it take? On example figures: pour on day 3, cure 7 days, full life in about 5 days at two sessions a day — go/no-go on 14 Oct, production cured by 26 Oct.

What if neither wick passes in time? Partial delivery on your remaining approved wicks, a renegotiated date, or the exact approved wick from another stockist. Not an untested wick. See the options.
The short answer
Essential: Full-life test of the chosen wick against a control on every safety line, time to full pool, end of life, one blind throw score, and a pilot burn from production day one.
Compress: Two candidates in parallel (13 candles), two burn sessions a day, one 7-day cure checkpoint, shallow-pour end-of-life screen.
Money: Test kit ₹3,445.60. Production wicks after GO: Thin C1 ₹6,077.00 or Thick C2 ₹9,723.20 for 1,030. The 5,000-wick post shows why not to buy first.

If the full life has not finished, the answer is to renegotiate the date or deliver part — not to skip it.
An example plan from 29 Sep to an example delivery on 30 Oct, before Diwali on 8 Nov. The test runs in parallel: shallow-pour candles screen end-of-life within days, while the full-height candles cure and then burn two sessions a day to the end. Production starts only after the go/no-go. Every duration is a labelled working assumption — replace them with yours and redraw the bars.
Straight answer
I need an emergency replacement wick for a 1,000-candle corporate order — what tests are essential before production?
Every combustion result, against a control, through the full life of the wick you choose — compressed in shape, not in substance. A wick change voids flame, pool, soot, mushrooming, jar-side reading, throw, consumption and end-of-life results, and none of them can be skipped for a thousand corporate gifts. What you can compress is how you get them: test two candidates in parallel against three control candles on your remaining approved wicks; screen end-of-life early with shallow-pour candles; use one 7-day cure checkpoint and score throw once, blind; burn two sessions a day with full cool-down between. On example figures that puts go/no-go on 14 Oct, production cured by 26 Oct and 4 days for packing before an example 30 Oct delivery. Buy production wicks only after the go decision, and burn one candle from the first production day against the control. If nothing passes in time, deliver in part or renegotiate the date — do not ship an untested wick. The test kit is ₹3,445.60 in CSI materials.
One line: an emergency shortens the test, never the last burn — two candidates in parallel, go/no-go on the full life, production wicks bought after.
Test two candidates at once. The emergency kit on this page runs Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 and Thick C2 side by side against your approved candle — 13 test candles in Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 with Saffron Cedarwood, ₹3,445.60 in CSI materials. The production wicks for 1,000 candles are ₹6,077.00 or ₹9,723.20 — buy them after the go decision, not before.

What is essential — and what only feels essential

Under deadline, the temptation is to cut the one test that matters most: the last burn.

You have a corporate order for 1,000 candles — your figure — and the wick you approved the candle with is unavailable. The replacement has to be tested, and there is not much time: from today, 29 Sep, Diwali is 40 days away, and this page uses an example delivery date of 30 Oct, 31 days out. Corporate Diwali orders often need to land before the festival week, so that is a realistic squeeze. Replace the date with your own; the logic does not change.

Emergencies do not change what a wick change invalidates; they change how efficiently you test it. Every combustion result you held is void — flame, pool, soot, mushrooming, jar-side reading, throw, consumption, end of life — because the wick is the part of the candle that burns. What you can compress is the shape of the test: fewer candidates, parallel burning, a shallow-pour screen for the end-of-life question, one cure checkpoint instead of three. What you cannot compress is the full life of the chosen wick, because a thousand corporate gifts that misbehave on their last burn are a thousand complaints landing on your client's desk with your name attached.

Result Verdict Essential? How it is compressed
Load, mixing, cold throw, storage appearance KEEP No retest —

Hot throw REPEAT Yes, but scored once One blind score at the cure checkpoint vs control

The CSI principle
An emergency shortens the test. It never removes the last burn.
Compress by testing in parallel and screening early. If the full life of the chosen wick cannot finish before production, change the delivery plan — not the test.

Choose two candidates, not one

With time short, testing one replacement and hoping is the most expensive plan, because a failure at day twelve leaves no time for a second attempt. Test two candidates in parallel against a control made with your remaining approved wicks — three are enough — or, if none are left, against retained candles from an earlier approved batch. The worked example uses two CSI wicks that are listed in 10-packs for testing and 1,000-packs for production: Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 (₹5.90 each) and Thick C2 (₹9.44 each). CSI publishes no burn data, construction details or size-per-diameter charts for either and does not claim either is equivalent to your approved wick; they are candidates because they are buyable in both test and production quantities, which in an emergency matters as much as anything.

Check production stock before you test
A candidate you cannot buy 1,000 of next week is not a candidate. Before pouring the test, confirm on WhatsApp that the production quantity of each candidate can be supplied in your window. The Eco 1,000-packs are listed; CSI does not publish delivery times, so ask. The same check applies to any other supplier's wick.

The emergency test — 13 candles
Arm Wick Full-height 200 g Shallow 60 g Purpose
Control Your remaining approved wicks 3 — The standard every line is judged against
Candidate A Eco Thin C1 (priced example) 3 2 Full life + early end-of-life screen
Candidate B Eco Thick C2 (priced example) 3 2 Full life + early end-of-life screen
Total 9 4 13

The shallow-pour candles hold 60 g — a labelled working choice — so the flame reaches the tab within a burn or two. They give an early warning on extinction, leftover wax and tab behaviour while the full-height candles are still near the top. They do not replace the full-height last burn, because they do not reproduce the heat the glass accumulates over a full life. The tab-change post explains the method in detail.

The schedule, day by day

Every duration below is a labelled working assumption you replace: materials in hand by day 3, a 7-day cure checkpoint, two burn sessions a day of about 4 hours with full cool-down between, and a full life of about 38 burn hours (an example 190 g of usable wax at 5.0 g per hour). With two sessions a day, the full life takes about 5 days instead of 10. Production pours at an example 200 candles a day and cures to the same 7-day checkpoint before packing.

Example schedule from 29 Sep · example delivery 30 Oct · all durations are working assumptions
Emergency plan
Date Step Gate
29 Sep Confirm production stock of both candidates; order test kit Both candidates buyable in 1,000s?
2 Oct Tare jars, pour all 13 test candles from one batch All wicks centred and upright?
4 Oct Shallow-pour screen: burn to extinction, weigh leftover Drop any candidate worse than control at the end
9 Oct 7-day cure checkpoint: cold and hot throw scored blind once Throw not clearly weaker than control
9 Oct → 14 Oct Full-life burns, two sessions a day, every safety line logged No line worse than control, any burn
14 Oct GO / NO-GO; order production wicks for the winner Full life complete for the chosen wick
15 Oct → 19 Oct Production pour, 200 a day; burn one candle from day one against the control Pilot matches the test
26 Oct Production cure checkpoint reached —
→ 30 Oct Pack and ship 4 days — the only buffer

On these assumptions production is cured 4 days before the example delivery date, and those days are also your packing and shipping time. That absorbs one small problem — a late delivery of test materials, a candidate that needs one more burn — if packing is quick, but not a failed candidate and a restart. That is exactly why two candidates are tested at once. If your real dates leave no slack, decide now what you will do on a no-go, rather than on the day.

The shortcut that feels like pragmatism. "The candidate looked fine for the first three burns, so start pouring and keep burning in the background." Some makers do exactly that, knowingly. If you do, cap it in writing — for example, no more than a day's production poured before the full life ends — and price the fallback: every candle poured on a wick that later fails has to be melted down and re-poured, which costs wax loss, labour, jars at risk and time you do not have. Treat it as a bet with a stated stake, never as a test that passed.

The scoring sheet and the go / no-go rule

One sheet per burn session · candidates judged against the control burned alongside · CSI publishes no numeric flame or jar-temperature limit
Emergency scoring sheet
Line Record Go condition
Flame height mm vs ruler, fixed minute No taller than control; within your jar supplier's guidance and your standard
Soot and mushrooming Rim, white card, wick-head photo No worse than control
Jar-side reading Same spot, same minute, same instrument No warmer than control
Time to full pool Minutes from lighting Inside the session, like control
Hot throw (once, blind) 1–5 in a fixed room Not clearly weaker than control
End of life Extinction, leftover (final − tare), base check, tab holding No worse than control
Consumption Weight lost ÷ hours Recorded; label recalculated if printed
Decide on the go date · apply in order
Go / no-go
Result on the go date Decision
One candidate passes every line through its full life GO with that candidate; order its production wicks today
Both pass GO with the one closest to the control on every line — not the one that throws most (hotter-jar post)
Leading candidate has passed so far but its full life is unfinished Hold — use the slack; if none, go to the no-go options
Neither passes NO-GO — see the options below

If it is a no-go: the options, honestly

A no-go on day sixteen is bad news. A thousand candles that fail on a client's desk is worse news, delivered later.

There are three honest options when no candidate passes in time. Partial delivery: make as many candles as your remaining approved wicks allow and agree the balance with the client. Renegotiate the date: tell the client now, with the reason, and offer a date the full life can support. Source the approved wick elsewhere: if another stockist has the exact approved wick, that is not a wick change at all — but confirm it is genuinely the same product and run a CONFIRM pair against a retained candle. Corporate clients generally cope better with an early, specific message than a late surprise. The 5,000-candle order post works through substitution against partial production and waiting on a larger order.

What is not on the list is shipping on the best-looking untested candidate. It can feel like the commercially brave choice, but a corporate order multiplies risk: the same flaw in every one of a thousand gifts, in the offices of a client who chose you for reliability.

The priced test kit and the production wicks

Test materials are listed, in-stock CSI sizes on the pull dates, with a 5% pour-loss allowance (working assumption). Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is rated up to 10% fragrance load by the wax maker, so 8% is inside its stated maximum; CSI's own guidance for it is 80–90°C melt/pour — confirm on the product page. Control wicks come from your own remaining stock.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. In a hurry, the order that suits us is 1,000 of each candidate wick today, "to save time". Don't. Test from 10-packs, decide, then buy one production quantity. And if neither of our wicks passes against your control, the right answer is partial delivery or a new date, not our wick in a thousand corporate gifts.
Diwali is 8 Nov. If you have a corporate order and a missing wick, message us today with the candle, the quantity and the delivery date. We will confirm stock of the candidate wicks in production quantities, help you set up the parallel test, and quote wax and oil for the full order. No volume discount figure is published.

If the emergency is the wax rather than the wick, the 1,000-candle wax post applies the same compressed-but-complete logic. If you have already bought a large quantity of a wick that is not working, the 5,000-wick post covers what to do with it.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. An emergency is when a supplier could sell the most — both candidate wicks in thousands, today. This page says buy 10-packs, test, then buy one production quantity, and that partial delivery beats an untested wick.

Wax and oil prices are CSI live listings pulled on 24 September 2026; wick and jar prices are those verified for Blog 760 on 10 September 2026, with wick packs rechecked on 25 September 2026. Kit and production quantities, pack rounding and schedule dates are arithmetic you can check.

The 1,000 candles are the reader's figure. The 30 Oct delivery date, 3-day materials lead, 7-day cure, two 4-hour sessions a day, 190 g usable wax at 5.0 g per hour, 200 candles poured a day, 3% production allowance and 60 g shallow pours are labelled working assumptions. CSI publishes no delivery times, burn data or flame and jar-temperature limits. For stock checks, bulk pricing, GST invoicing, MSDS or IFRA documentation, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a new wick without testing for a large order?
No. A wick change voids every combustion result. For a large order, test faster — two candidates in parallel, two sessions a day — but complete the full life of the chosen wick before production.
How long does an emergency wick test take?
On example figures, about 15 days from ordering materials to go/no-go: a few days to receive and pour, a 7-day cure, then about 5 days of full-life burning at two sessions a day.
How many test candles for an emergency wick change?
In this plan, 13: three control candles, and for each of two candidates three full-height plus two shallow-pour candles.
Should I buy the production wicks before testing?
Confirm they can be supplied in your window, but buy them after the go decision. Buying 1,000 of a wick that fails is the problem the 5,000-wick post deals with.
What if the wick fails and the order is due?
Deliver part of the order on your remaining approved wicks, renegotiate the date, or source the exact approved wick elsewhere and confirm it against a retained candle.
What is a pilot burn in candle production?
Burning one candle from the first production batch to the end alongside the control, to confirm production matches the test before the rest of the order is poured.
