Four grams of oil out of a 200 g candle, four grams of wax in. On CSI's Woody Oud that is ₹15.73 a candle, net, and ₹15,730.00 across 1,000 candles, once a blind, full-life test confirms the 8%.

saved per 1,000 candles of 200 g, 10% to 8%, Woody Oud net of Chunks wax · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How much does 10% → 8% save across 1,000 candles? In a 200 g candle you pour 4 g less oil, and 4 g more wax fills the space. Net of that wax, with CSI's Woody Oud at ₹4,531.20 a kilo and Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, the saving is ₹15.73 a candle and ₹15,730.00 per 1,000 candles. If you make 1,000 a month, that is ₹1,88,760.00 a year.

And with a different oil? The same 4 kg of oil per 1,000 candles is worth ₹8,930.00 on Citrus Lemon, the cheapest oil CSI lists by the kilo, and ₹30,010.00 on White Royal Oud. For your own oil: 4 × (oil price per kg − wax price per kg) per 1,000 candles. At ₹4,000.00 oil and ₹500.00 wax (worked example) that is ₹14,000.00.

Is "equally strong" enough to bank it? Only if it was judged blind, against a 10% control from the same pour, across the whole burn, not just the first hour. A six-candle confirmation costs about ₹2,233.10, which the saving repays within the first 142 candles at 8%.

What else should I check? The wick. A lower load can change flame and melt pool, so burn the 8% candle to the end on its current wick before you scale. Any wick saving is a separate test; do not add it to this sum.
The short answer
Per candle: 4 g of oil out, 4 g of wax in. Woody Oud: ₹18.12 of oil saved, less ₹2.40 of wax = ₹15.73.
Per 1,000 candles: 4.0 kg less oil (20.0 kg → 16.0 kg, 20% less). Woody Oud: ₹15,730.00. Range across eight CSI oils: ₹8,930.00 to ₹30,010.00.
Per year at 1,000 a month: ₹1,88,760.00 on Woody Oud (worked volume).
Before you bank it: blind comparison against a 10% control, full-life burns, a wick check at 8%. Treat a wick change as a separate result.
10% to 8%: what 1,000 candles save 200 g candles, 4 g of oil out and 4 g of Chunks wax in, per candle. Net saving per 1,000 candles at each oil's CSI 1 kg price, 4 October 2026. 0 10,000 20,000 30,000 rupees Citrus Lemon ₹2,832.00 a kg · ₹2.83/g ₹8,930.00 Eucalyptus Spearmint ₹3,068.00 a kg · ₹3.07/g ₹9,870.00 Roasted Coffee ₹3,738.00 a kg · ₹3.74/g ₹12,550.00 Jasmine ₹3,923.00 a kg · ₹3.92/g ₹13,290.00 Woody Oud ₹4,531.20 a kg · ₹4.53/g ₹15,730.00 Lavender ₹5,221.00 a kg · ₹5.22/g ₹18,480.00 Dark Vanilla ₹7,646.00 a kg · ₹7.65/g ₹28,180.00 White Royal Oud ₹8,103.00 a kg · ₹8.10/g ₹30,010.00 net saving (figure shown) 4 kg of wax that replaces the oil: ₹2,399.60 Only if a blind, full-life test says 8% is as strong. Each bar is the 4 kg of oil a 1,000-candle run no longer needs at 8%, priced at the oil's CSI 1 kg price. The hatched end is the 4 kg of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks that replaces it (₹2,399.60); the solid part is what you actually keep. The dearer the oil, the bigger the net: from ₹8,930.00 to ₹30,010.00. Straight answer
I reduced fragrance from 10% to 8% and the candle still smells equally strong. How much money would that save across 1,000 candles?
For a 200 g candle (the series default; use yours), 10% is 20 g of oil and 8% is 16 g, so each candle uses 4 g less oil and 4 g more wax. Across 1,000 candles that is 4.0 kg less oil and 4.0 kg more wax. The saving is the oil you no longer buy minus the wax you now buy: 4 × (oil price per kg − wax price per kg) per 1,000 candles. With CSI's Woody Oud at ₹4,531.20 a kilo and Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at the 10 kg price, that is ₹18,124.80 of oil less ₹2,399.60 of wax = ₹15,730.00, or ₹15.73 a candle. At 1,000 candles a month it is ₹1,88,760.00 a year. On CSI's candle-grade oils the same cut is worth between ₹8,930.00 (Citrus Lemon) and ₹28,180.00 (Dark Vanilla) per 1,000. Bank it only after a blind, full-life comparison against a 10% control from the same pour, with the wick checked at 8%.
One line: per 1,000 candles of 200 g, a 10% to 8% cut saves 4 × (your oil ₹/kg − your wax ₹/kg); on Woody Oud that is ₹15,730.00.
Your new monthly order: 1,000 candles at 8% use 16.0 kg of oil instead of 20.0 kg. Woody Oud is ₹4.53 a gram from 100 g to 1 kg, so sixteen 1 kg packs (₹72,499.20) cost the same per gram as smaller bottles. CSI lists no fragrance pack above 1 kg; larger quantities are a WhatsApp conversation. All sizes in stock on 4 October 2026.

The sum: 4 g of oil out, 4 g of wax in

The candle still weighs 200 g. Only the split moved.

Fragrance load is a percentage of total candle weight (CSI's convention). A 200 g candle at 10% is 20 g of oil and 180 g of wax; at 8% it is 16 g and 184 g. You filled the same jar to the same line, so the 4 g of oil you left out became 4 g of wax. That is why the saving is not simply "4 g of oil": the wax that replaced it was not free.

The saving, line by line · 200 g candle · Woody Oud and Chunks at CSI prices
Oil at the 1 kg price (₹4,531.20) · wax at the 10 kg Chunks price (₹5,999.00) · per 1,000 = per candle × the title's 1,000
Line Per candle Per 1,000 candles
Oil no longer poured 4 g × ₹4.53 = ₹18.12 4.0 kg = ₹18,124.80
Wax that replaces it 4 g × 0.5999 = ₹2.40 4.0 kg = ₹2,399.60
Net saving ₹15.73 ₹15,730.00

Written as a formula you can reuse with any oil, wax and candle size: saving per candle = candle grams × (old load − new load) × (oil ₹/g − wax ₹/g). For 200 g and two points, the first two terms are 4 g. For a 150 g candle they are 3 g, so every figure on this page scales by three-quarters. If your oil is not from CSI, use your own price: at ₹4,000.00 a kilo with wax at ₹500.00 (worked example), the saving is ₹14.00 a candle and ₹14,000.00 per 1,000.

Your result, not our claim
"Still smells equally strong at 8%" is your observation about your candle. We price it with CSI oils to show real rupees; we do not claim any CSI oil performs equally at 8% and 10%, and CSI publishes no throw data. If the oil is different, your test is different.

The candle costs ₹15.72 less, 5.2% of its materials. (The line-by-line BOM shows ₹15.72, one paisa under the ₹15.73 from the per-gram formula, because each line is rounded to the paisa; per 1,000 candles, use the formula.) Nothing the customer sees has changed: same jar, same box, same wick, same scent. That is what makes a load cut the cleanest saving in this series, if, and only if, the scent really is unchanged.

The same cut on eight CSI oils

Two points of load are worth more on a dear oil than a cheap one.

The 4 g is constant; the rupees are not. Here is the same 10% to 8% cut priced on eight CSI oils at their 1 kg prices, all in stock on 4 October 2026. The wax claw-back (₹2.40 a candle with Chunks) is the same for every oil.

10% → 8% in a 200 g candle · eight CSI oils · 1 kg prices
Gross = 4 g of oil · net = gross − 4 g of Chunks wax · per year assumes 1,000 candles a month (worked example)

White Royal Oud ₹8,103.00 ₹32.41 ₹2.40 ₹30.01 ₹30,010.00 ₹3,60,120.00

From the cheapest oil here to the dearest, the same two points are worth ₹21,080.00 more per 1,000 candles. Three practical points follow. First, if your 8% result is on a cheap oil, it is real but small: on Citrus Lemon it is ₹8,930.00 per 1,000. Second, the pack you buy matters as much as the oil: Jasmine priced at the 100 g bottle saves ₹14.80 a candle, at the 1 kg price ₹13.29, because a gram you do not pour is worth what you paid for it. Third, perfume-grade "inspired" listings priced well above these would show bigger rupee savings, but their pages quote perfume usage rates, not candle loads, so a candle test on them is a separate question.

Argued against our own interest: do not switch to a dearer CSI oil because "the saving per 1,000 is bigger". A bigger saving on a dearer oil still leaves you with a dearer candle. The table tells you what your own cut is worth on the oil you already pour; it is not a shopping list.

Per month, per year, and what the number is not

1,000 candles once is a batch. 1,000 a month is a business case.

The title asks about 1,000 candles. Whether that is a one-off festive run or every month changes the size of the decision, not the arithmetic. On Woody Oud:

The Woody Oud saving at different volumes
₹15.73 a candle, net of Chunks wax · volumes are worked examples except the title's 1,000
Volume Oil not bought Net saving
One run of 1,000 candles (title) 4.0 kg, ₹18,124.80 ₹15,730.00
250 a month for a year 12 kg ₹47,190.00
500 a month for a year 24 kg ₹94,380.00
1,000 a month for a year 48 kg ₹1,88,760.00

What converts this into profit is volume; how a per-candle saving compounds at 1,000 a month is the subject of the ₹10-a-candle-at-1,000-a-month post. Here are three things the number is not.

It is not a saving if the candle is weaker

If 8% is in fact a little weaker and more buyers complain or return, the saving leaks away. Suppose (hypothetically) 3% more of 1,000 candles come back: replacing them costs ₹8,529.60 at the 8% COGS, or refunding them ₹20,970.00 at a ₹699.00 selling price (worked example). Either way that is a large bite out of ₹15,730.00, before the reviews. That is the whole case for the confirmation below.

It is not a reason to cut the price

An invisible cost saving is margin. If you pass it straight to the customer, you keep the risk and give away the reward. Pricing is a separate decision.

It is not doubled by a second, partial result

If only 9% had held, the saving would be half: ₹7,860.00 per 1,000 on Woody Oud. Do not average "8% on most candles" into a headline; bank the load that passed, oil by oil. How that sums across a range of oils is the range-wide per-oil load post.

Buying for 8%: the order that changes

A load cut shows up first on the purchase order, not the price list. At 1,000 candles of 200 g, your Woody Oud order falls from 20.0 kg to 16.0 kg a run, and the money you stop spending on oil is ₹18,124.80 gross; you spend ₹2,399.60 more on wax, which is how the net comes to ₹15,730.00. Three buying rules keep that saving intact.

Buy the new quantity, not the old one. If you still order 20.0 kg out of habit, the 4 kg you do not pour sits on the shelf as cash you have not saved yet. Re-set the reorder quantity on the day the 8% card goes live.

Check the ladder before you change pack. On Woody Oud the per-gram price is the same from 100 g to 1 kg, so smaller monthly use costs you nothing per gram. On Roasted Coffee the 1 kg is ₹42.00 cheaper than two 500 g packs, so stay on kilos. On Lavender the two are within ₹19.00. On 20 of the 78 oils CSI sells in both 500 g and 1 kg, the kilo costs more than two 500 g packs, so look before you assume.

Do not turn the saving into a bulk bet. CSI lists no fragrance pack above 1 kg; a 5 kg price from any supplier is a separate decision about cash tied up and how long the oil sits, covered in the 500 g-a-month, 5 kg question. The ₹15,730.00 on this page needs no bigger pack to happen.

Mistake: celebrating the saving and then pouring "a little extra for luck" on the next batch. Why it fails: every gram above 16 g gives back 3.9313 rupees of the saving per candle, and it drifts the product away from the candle your test approved. Fix: the recipe card says 16 g, the scale says 16 g, and a second person checks it.

Confirm "equally strong" before you bank it

If you knew which candle was 8%, you have not tested it yet.

"Still smells equally strong" is the claim the whole sum rests on, so it needs to survive four things: your expectations, your nose getting used to the scent, a candle that is still curing, and the last third of the jar. The ladder design (which loads to compare) belongs to the lower-load test design post; here is the minimum confirmation for a result you already have. The science of finding the lowest load that still throws is the lowest effective load guide, and the 7%-against-10% version for an expensive oil is the expensive-oil 7% against 10% test.

1
Pour a fresh pairThree candles at 10% and three at 8%, same day, same wax lot, same jar batch, same wick, same pour temperature. For Woody Oud that is 108 g of oil.
2
Code themSomeone else labels the bases A to F. You do not know which is which until the end.
3
Cure, then compare blind at intervalsThe Woody Oud page says to cure soy candles 48–72 hours before burn testing; many makers judge again at day 7 and 14. Use a closed room, the same burn time, fresh noses, and ask "same or different, and which is stronger?"
4
Judge the last third tooBurn sessions of 3–4 hours to about 1 cm left. A load that is equal at the top and weaker at the bottom is not equal.
5
Decide on the recordIf the panel cannot reliably pick the 8% candle as weaker across the burn, bank the saving. If it can, step back to 9% and re-run the sum.

Cost: ₹489.37 of oil, ₹655.09 of wax, ₹432.00 of jars, ₹56.64 of wicks and ₹600.00 of labour (worked example), about ₹2,233.10. At ₹15.73 a candle, the first 142 candles poured at 8% repay it. It is cheap insurance. Change control for any load change, including what else to retest, is the full retest list when the oil formula changes.

The wick re-check at 8%

Less oil can mean a different flame. Check it; do not bank it.

A two-point cut changes the melt pool's make-up, and higher loads are commonly linked to smaller or sootier flames, so lower loads can burn differently on the same wick (a tendency, not a rule). Before scaling to 1,000 candles, burn the 8% candles to the end on the wick you use now and compare with the 10% control: melt pool reaching the edge, flame height, carbon on the wick, soot, and jar heat in the final third. If the 8% candle now runs hot or the pool is deeper than before, the wick needs a bracket test, not a guess (whether a 10% to 8% cut needs a wick retest; the mechanism is in the 6%-to-10% flame-size post).

Mistake: adding a hoped-for smaller wick to the saving ("and C1 is cheaper than C2, so add that too"). Why it fails: the step-down exists only if a wick ladder passes through the whole jar. Fix: bank ₹15.73 a candle; treat any wick change as a second, separate test (the lower-load wick post).
Argued against our own interest: a load cut saves you nothing on wax, wicks or jars at CSI: Chunks and CSI 464 are near-flat per kilo, and C1, C2 and Cotton Braided wicks are flat per wick at every pack. Do not buy a bigger bag of anything to "lock in" this saving. It is already locked in: it is grams you no longer pour.

The oils and wax behind the numbers

The worked candle's oil and wax, plus two oils that show how the oil's price and pack change the answer. Chosen on page statements, price and stock on 4 October 2026; CSI publishes no throw data. The last column is the 10% to 8% saving per 200 g candle at that pack's price, net of Chunks wax.

The worked candle's oil. The page describes "citrus and spice top notes opening into rich oud and patchouli heart, settling into warm woody notes, amber, and musk", states "candles (6-10%)" and says "Cure soy wax candles for 48-72 hours before burn testing". Your 8% sits inside that stated range. From 100 g to 1 kg it is ₹4.53 a gram, so the 10% to 8% saving is the same ₹15.73 a candle whether you buy 100 g or a kilo. Argued against our own interest: once you pour 8%, you buy 4.0 kg less of it per 1,000 candles; we would rather you did that than keep pouring oil your candle does not need.

If your 8% candle has already passed a blind, full-life comparison, pour your festive run at 8% and order 16.0 kg of oil per 1,000 candles instead of 20.0 kg. If it has not, pour Diwali at 10% and start the six-candle confirmation now. Send us the quantities and we will quote with a GST invoice and dispatch date.

The CSI principle
A load cut saves the oil you stop pouring, minus the wax that takes its place.
Price it with that formula, confirm it blind across the whole burn, and only then multiply it by a thousand.
"The cheapest fragrance is the gram you did not need. The most expensive is the gram you cut that your customer missed."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the oils and wax named here and does not sell finished candles. This page shows you how to buy 4.0 kg less of our oil per 1,000 candles, tells you not to switch to a dearer oil for a bigger headline, and says plainly that bigger wax bags and wick packs save nothing.

Every CSI price was checked on the live store on 4 October 2026, size by size; every size of every oil and wax shown is in stock on that date. Product wording is quoted from the pages; where a page is silent in the text we captured, we say so.

The 1,000 candles and the 10% and 8% loads are the reader's figures (title). The 200 g candle, the monthly volumes, the jar and box figures, your-oil prices, the returns rate, the selling price and labour at ₹150.00 an hour are labelled worked examples. This is practical business judgement, not financial advice. For bulk pricing, GST invoicing, and MSDS and IFRA documentation on request, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

How much does reducing fragrance from 10% to 8% save per candle?
In a 200 g candle, 4 g of oil less and 4 g of wax more. With CSI Woody Oud at ₹4,531.20 a kilo and Chunks wax, that is ₹15.73 a candle; across eight CSI oils it ranges from ₹8.93 to ₹30.01.
How much fragrance oil do I save per 1,000 candles at 8% instead of 10%?
4.0 kg for 200 g candles: 20.0 kg at 10% against 16.0 kg at 8%, 20% less. For 150 g candles it is 3 kg.
Should I subtract wax cost when I calculate fragrance savings?
Yes. The fill weight stays the same, so the oil you remove is replaced by wax. With Chunks at the 10 kg price that is ₹2.40 a candle, ₹2,399.60 per 1,000 candles.
How do I know if my 8% candle is really as strong as 10%?
Compare coded candles from the same pour blind, after cure and again later, through to the last third of the jar. If people cannot reliably pick the 8% candle as weaker, the result holds.
Do I need to change the wick after lowering fragrance load?
Not automatically, but check. Burn the 8% candle to the end on its current wick against the 10% control; if flame, pool or jar heat change, run a wick bracket test before scaling.
What is the yearly saving from cutting fragrance load at 1,000 candles a month?
Net saving per candle × 1,000 × 12. On Woody Oud in a 200 g Chunks candle that is ₹1,88,760.00; on Citrus Lemon ₹1,07,160.00.
10% to 8%, priced
Four grams of oil out, four grams of wax in, multiplied by your volume.
On Woody Oud that is ₹15,730.00 per 1,000 candles of 200 g, once a blind, full-life comparison confirms the 8%. Send us your oil price, candle size and volume on WhatsApp and we will check the sum and the right pack for your new usage.

About this guide: part of CSI's cluster on fragrance oil costing too much (6021–6040) in the series on candle cost reduction and raw-material optimisation. It owns the exact saving from a 10% to 8% fragrance cut in a 200 g candle: 4 g of oil out and 4 g of wax in, net per candle, per 1,000 candles and per year, priced on eight CSI oils; the BOM before and after; the blind confirmation and wick re-check before the saving is banked.

Non-price figures: 1,000 candles, 10% and 8% are the reader's figures (title); "equally strong" is the reader's observation, not a CSI performance claim. The 200 g candle, monthly volumes, jar (₹72.00), box and label (₹20.00), the ₹4,000.00 and ₹500.00 your-oil example, the 3% returns case, the ₹699.00 selling price, labour at ₹150.00 an hour and the six-candle confirmation are worked examples. Load is a percentage of total candle weight (200 g at 8% = 16 g oil + 184 g wax). Wax ceiling as the Chunks page states (up to 13%; its FAQ says of total wax weight): a formulation limit, not a regulatory one. Costs are materials only and exclude labour (except in test costs), freight, GST and marketing. Diwali 8 November 2026 is a calendar fact.
