Quick answers — read this first
Why forecast each SKU? Because oils are bought per SKU, containers differ by SKU, and the mix inside a steady total drifts. A single total cannot tell you which oil runs out.

How do I forecast a SKU? From its own last three months: last month, a three-month average or a gentle trend. Pick one method and check its error per SKU each month.

What does 500 a month need here? 82.8 kg of Chunks, five oils from 225 g to 2,796 g, 379 Thick C2 + 149 Thin C1 wicks, 387 jars, 95 tins, 54 velvet jars.

What does it cost? ₹1,27,588.18 CSI subtotal in practical packs. Lids, labels, boxes, freight and GST are yours to add.
The short answer
Answer: Forecast each SKU from its own sales history, convert each forecast through that SKU's BOM with allowances applied once, keep every oil as its own line, and add up only the materials SKUs genuinely share.
Why: In this example the three 200 g SKUs are 72% of units but 88% of the wax; an equal split would leave Vanilla Bean short by the third week.
Method: History per SKU → forecast → per-SKU BOM → consumption matrix → shared totals → packs. Scale it to 20 SKUs for the wax total.
500 candles a month, five SKUs: who uses what Share of units sold (thin bar) against share of the month's wax (thick bar) · Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at 8% · example mix Vanilla Bean 200 g 160 sold · 200 g fill 32.0% of units 38.8% of wax · 32.1 kg British Rose 200 g 120 sold · 200 g fill 24.0% of units 29.1% of wax · 24.1 kg Woody Oud 200 g 80 sold · 200 g fill 16.0% of units 19.6% of wax · 16.3 kg Jasmine 85 g tin 90 sold · 85 g fill 18.0% of units 9.3% of wax · 7.7 kg Blue Ocean 50 g velvet 50 sold · 50 g fill 10.0% of units 3.1% of wax · 2.6 kg The three 200 g SKUs are 72% of the units but 88% of the wax. Split a 500-candle month into five equal SKUs and you mis-size every oil and every container line.
The same 500 units, split by share of units sold and by share of the month's wax. Bigger fills dominate the wax even when the small SKUs sell well, which is why the total alone cannot size any line. The mix is the reader's example.
Straight answer
I sell 500 candles per month across five SKUs — how do I forecast raw-material consumption separately for each SKU?
Forecast each SKU from its own sales history, push each forecast through that SKU's own bill of materials, and add up only the materials the SKUs share. Use three months per SKU and one simple method — last month, a three-month average or a gentle trend — because the mix inside a flat 500 drifts. Then each SKU becomes poured candles (forecast + QC candles, divided by 1 − reject rate), grams of oil and wax at its own fill (200 g, 85 g, 50 g at 8% here) with pour loss, its own wick and its own container. Oils stay as five separate lines; wax, stickers and the shared White Matte jar are summed. On this page's example the month needs 82.8 kg of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, oil from 225 g (Blue Ocean) to 2,796 g (Vanilla Bean), 379 Eco Thick C2 and 149 Eco Thin C1 wicks, 387 jars, 95 tins and 54 velvet jars — ₹1,27,588.18 in practical CSI packs.
One line: forecast where the demand is (per SKU); buy where the material is (per shared line).
For the example 500-candle month on this page — five SKUs in three container sizes, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at 8% — the forecast per SKU becomes 82.8 kg of wax, five separate oil quantities from 225 g to 2,796 g, 379 Eco Thick C2 and 149 Eco Thin C1 wicks, 390 jars, 96 tins and 54 velvet jars: ₹1,27,588.18 in CSI packs. The shared line is Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at ₹2,995.00 for 5 kg.

Why 500 candles is five forecasts, not one

Your total can sit still at 500 while every SKU inside it moves. The oil order follows the SKUs, not the total.

A business that sells 500 candles a month is tempted to forecast one number — 500 — and divide it across SKUs by habit. That works for wax only if every SKU is the same size, and it never works for oil, because each fragrance is its own stock line with its own pack sizes. In the example on this page, the three 200 g jars, the 85 g tin and the 50 g velvet jar use very different amounts of wax per candle, so the same 500 units can mean very different kilograms depending on the mix. And within the mix, one SKU is climbing while another is sliding — which a single total hides completely.

So the method is: forecast each SKU separately, convert each forecast through its own BOM, and only then add up the materials that are shared. This page does exactly that for five example SKUs — Vanilla Bean, British Rose and Woody Oud in 200 g White Matte jars, Jasmine in the 85 g Golden Aluminium Tin, and Blue Ocean in the 50 g Heart Cutout Velvet Jar. The two small containers are deliberately the two CSI containers with published fills, so their BOMs need no weighed estimate. The 200 g fill in the White Matte jar is the reader's own weighed fill; CSI does not publish one for that jar.

The CSI principle
Forecast where the demand is (per SKU). Buy where the material is (per shared line).
Oils, and any container used by one SKU, follow their SKU's forecast directly. Wax, wicks and jars shared across SKUs are the sum of every SKU's line.

Step 1: a forecast per SKU, from your own history

Start with three months of units sold per SKU. The table below is the reader's example history; every month totals 500. Three simple forecasts are shown side by side — last month, the three-month average and last month plus half the three-month change (a gentle trend). None is "right"; the point is that they disagree per SKU while agreeing on the total.

Reader's example history · July–September · every month totals 500 · forecasts are simple methods, not predictions
Three months per SKU and three ways to forecast October
SKU Jul Aug Sep Last month 3-month avg Trend (last + ½ change)
Vanilla Bean 200 g 150 155 160 160 155.0 165.0
British Rose 200 g 125 120 120 120 121.7 117.5
Woody Oud 200 g 70 75 80 80 75.0 85.0
Jasmine 85 g tin 100 95 90 90 95.0 85.0
Blue Ocean 50 g velvet 55 55 50 50 53.3 47.5
Total 500 500 500 500 500.0 500.0

Vanilla Bean has risen ten candles a month; Jasmine and Blue Ocean have slipped. The average forecast under-orders Vanilla Bean and over-orders Jasmine; the trend forecast leans further the other way. This page uses last month as the forecast — the reader's choice, and a reasonable one when the mix is drifting slowly. The difference it makes is concrete: on the trend forecast, Vanilla Bean would need 2,879 g of oil instead of 2,796 g, and Jasmine 636 g instead of 672 g. If your history has a festive spike, the growth post shows how to size an order for a rising line without stranding stock when it flattens.

The equal-split shortcut: "500 candles, five SKUs, 100 each." On this mix, 100 Vanilla Bean candles would need 1,764 g of oil against a real 2,796 g — you would run out in the third week — while Blue Ocean would be bought at twice its sales. Fix: forecast each SKU from its own history and keep the oil lines separate, always.

Step 2: each SKU through its own BOM

Each SKU has its own bill of materials. At 8% of finished weight: a 200 g candle is 16 g oil and 184 g wax; the 85 g tin is 6.8 g oil and 78.2 g wax; the 50 g velvet jar is 4 g oil and 46 g wax. Wicks are the reader's burn-tested choices — Eco Thick C2 in the 200 g jars, Eco Thin C1 in the tin and the velvet jar. That is the reader's result, not a CSI sizing rule: CSI publishes no wick-size-per-diameter chart.

Per-SKU BOM · CSI convention: load = share of finished weight · wicks are the reader's tested choices
Five SKUs, five one-candle BOMs

Then the allowances, once each and in order: 2 QC candles per SKU (whole candles), an example 3% reject allowance (divide by 0.97), 4% pour loss on wax and oil, and 2% breakage on the White Matte glass only. The tins are aluminium, so no breakage line; for the velvet jars use your own breakage figure if you have one — it is left at zero here.

The consumption matrix · QC 2 per SKU · rejects 3% · loss 4% on wax and oil · example forecast = last month
Forecast → poured → material, per SKU
SKU Forecast Poured Oil Wax Wicks Containers
Vanilla Bean 200 g 160 168 2,795.5 g 32,148.5 g 168 Eco Thick C2 168 White Matte jar
British Rose 200 g 120 126 2,096.6 g 24,111.4 g 126 Eco Thick C2 126 White Matte jar
Woody Oud 200 g 80 85 1,414.4 g 16,265.6 g 85 Eco Thick C2 85 White Matte jar
Jasmine 85 g tin 90 95 671.8 g 7,726.2 g 95 Eco Thin C1 95 Golden Aluminium Tin
Blue Ocean 50 g velvet 50 54 224.6 g 2,583.4 g 54 Eco Thin C1 54 Velvet heart jar
Shared totals 500 528 kept separate 82,835.0 g 379 C2 · 149 C1 387 jars (with breakage) · 95 tins · 54 velvet

Read the matrix by column. The oil column is five independent purchases. The wax column adds up to one: 82.83 kg. The wick column adds up to two, because two wicks are in use. The container column stays as three, because each container belongs to particular SKUs — though the three 200 g SKUs share one jar line. That pattern — demand per SKU, purchase per material — is what the 20-SKU wax post scales up and what the one-jar post and the three-wick post do for containers and wicks.

Step 3: round to packs and price the month

The cheapest way to buy 83 kg of Chunks is 166 bags of 500 g. Nobody should.

Here is a CSI price quirk worth knowing. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are ₹299.00 for 500 g — ₹598.00 a kilo — and ₹2,995.00 for 5 kg, ₹599.00 a kilo. So the arithmetically cheapest way to cover 82,835 g is 166 × 500 g at ₹49,634.00. The practical cover is 16 × 5 kg + 3 × 1 kg at ₹49,717.00 — ₹83.00 more for the month, and a fraction of the bags to open. This page buys the practical cover and says so; the 10 kg bag (₹5,999.00, ₹599.90 a kilo) is dearer per kilo than two 5 kg bags and is not used.

Two oil lines show why per-SKU rounding matters. Vanilla Bean is the dearest oil in this range at ₹7.65/g at 1 kg, so it is ₹21,502.00 of the order on its own — 16.9% of the CSI subtotal for 32% of the units. British Rose is one of the oils that genuinely gets cheaper per gram as packs grow (₹3.42/g at 100 g, ₹3.07/g at 1 kg), so its line rounds to two 1 kg bottles. The small SKUs round to small packs: Blue Ocean's 224.6 g is covered by 4 × 50 g + 2 × 15 g, because its 50 g and 100 g are the same ₹4.94–₹4.95 a gram and a 500 g bottle would sit on the shelf for months.

At the order's own rates the material cost per candle is ₹313.32 for Vanilla Bean, ₹239.81 for British Rose, ₹263.24 for Woody Oud, ₹110.15 for the Jasmine tin and ₹98.88 for the Blue Ocean velvet jar — wax, oil, wick and container only; no stickers, labels, lids, labour, freight or GST.

Check the forecast every week, not every month
A per-SKU forecast is cheap to correct. If Vanilla Bean is already at 50 sold by day 8, the month will beat 160 — reorder its oil from the 100 g size now rather than waiting. The wax and jars have enough slack for one SKU's surprise; the oil does not. The reorder sheet puts the weekly check into one row per SKU.

Buy now, buy after testing

All five SKUs are established, so October's production materials can be bought now. The buy-after-testing line in a forecast-driven order is usually a mix change: a new container size, a new wick for an existing SKU, or a sixth fragrance. In this example the reader wants to try Woody Oud in the 85 g tin as well. That is a new SKU with a new BOM — tin, wick and oil load all need to be confirmed together — so it enters this month only as trial candles.

Trial: 3 Woody Oud tins 2 × 15 g oil, 1 × pack of 12, 1 × 20 Thin C1 · ₹664.44 —

The production lines leave almost nothing spare — 1 tin, 0.6 g of Woody Oud, 1 Thin C1 wick — so the trial is bought as its own small lines: 2 × 15 g of Woody Oud for the 21.2 g three tins need, 1 × pack of 12 tins and a 20-pack of Thin C1 (the 10-pack was out of stock on the 4 October 2026 re-check). That is ₹664.44 against ₹1,26,923.74 of production materials. If the trial passes, November's forecast gets a sixth row and its own BOM; the spare tins and wicks from the trial packs go into it.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. Our 10 kg Chunks bag costs ₹5,999.00; two 5 kg bags cost ₹5,990.00. Our 500 g bag is the cheapest per kilo of all. For a business using 80-plus kilos a month, the honest advice is 5 kg bags plus a few smaller ones to land on the need — and for anything above that, ask us on WhatsApp for a quote rather than assuming a bigger listed bag is cheaper. No volume discount figure is published.

Where this fits in the procurement system

Per-SKU forecasting is step two of the pipeline on the cluster hub. If you would rather start from last month's actuals and a shelf count, units sold → monthly requirement is the simpler version. Once the forecast is in, the shared lines can be bought on a different rhythm from the oils — a shared wax and a slow oil deserve different safety stock — and the consolidated monthly order shows how to put all of it on one invoice.

1
Keep three months of units per SKUOne row per SKU, one column per month. Mark stock-outs and one-off bulk orders.
2
Choose one forecast method and stick to itLast month, a three-month average or a gentle trend. Changing methods every month hides whether the method is any good.
3
Run every SKU through its own BOMFill, load, wick, container. Two SKUs in the same fragrance but different sizes are two rows.
4
Apply allowances once, in orderQC candles, then rejects by division, then pour loss on wax and oil, then breakage on glass.
5
Add shared materials, keep oils apartWax, wicks, stickers and shared jars are summed; each oil and any single-SKU container stays its own line.
6
Compare forecast to actual at month endWrite the error per SKU. A forecast that misses the same SKU in the same direction three months running needs a different method for that SKU.
The total tells you how busy the month will be. The SKUs tell you what to buy.

It depends on the fills. 500 × 200 g at 8% is 92 kg of wax before allowances; this page's mix of 200 g, 85 g and 50 g needs 82.8 kg including QC, 3% rejects and 4% pour loss.
Should I buy fragrance oil for all SKUs at once?
Buy each oil to its own SKU forecast, in the pack sizes that forecast actually uses. A slow SKU in a 500 g bottle ties up cash; the cash post explains which lines to buy often.
Is it cheaper to buy Luxury Soy Wax Chunks in 500 g bags?
Fractionally — ₹598.00 a kilo in 500 g bags against ₹599.00 at 1 and 5 kg and ₹599.90 at 10 kg. For production, 5 kg bags cost a few rupees more per month and save dozens of bags.
Which CSI candle containers have a published fill weight?
Only two: the Golden Aluminium Tin (85 g) and the Heart Cutout Velvet Jar (50 g wax capacity). For every other jar, weigh a test pour and use your own figure.
How do I adjust a candle forecast for Diwali?
Decide an uplift per SKU from your own past festive sales, label it, and apply it before the BOM. Diwali 2026 is on 8 November; the growth post shows how to order for a rising line without stranding stock.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — Eco Candle Wicks, Premium Candle Wicking Needle and Bamboo Wick Holder. They are general product reviews, not assessments of the guidance set out here. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me and wording is unedited. "Verified buyer" appears only on the three reviews Judge.me recorded as verified — Monika Deep, Subhankar Roy and Sneha Tamang; the reviews from Ashwini, LJ and Lalitha Jagan are published but not recorded as verified, and carry no badge.

Non-price figures and assumptions: CSI convention: fragrance load is a share of the finished candle weight (oil = W × L; wax = W × (1 − L)). Allowances are applied in one order — test candles as whole candles, reject allowance by dividing by (1 − reject rate), pour loss on wax and oil only, breakage on glass only, then rounding up to listed in-stock CSI packs — and no allowance is applied twice. The 200 g White Matte fill is the reader's weighed fill; the 85 g tin and 50 g velvet jar fills are published. CSI publishes no jar internal diameters or fill weights except the Golden Aluminium Tin (85 g) and the Heart Cutout Velvet Jar (50 g wax capacity), no wick-size-per-diameter chart, no throw or burn-test data, no lead times, no volume discount and no 25 kg or 100 kg pack; container soy bags stop at 10 kg and Natural Soy Pearl goes to 50 kg. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks' 13% ceiling, 80–90°C fragrance addition, 75–80°C pour (step list 70–80°C) and 48-hour to two-week cure are as CSI's product page states them. Sales history, forecasts, QC candles, 3% rejects, 4% pour loss and 2% breakage are labelled examples. Material costs exclude stickers, lids, packaging, labour, freight and GST. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November.
