Partly. All eight fragrances go in front of a control on the new wick, but only a bracket of three — the hottest, coolest and most troublesome in your own records — needs a full-life retest. The other five need a shorter confirm, and any that disagree are promoted to a full life.

test candles for eight fragrances with a bracket · ₹7,242.58 in CSI materials instead of ₹10,155.70 · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Do I need to test all eight fragrances with a new wick? Every one needs a comparison with a control. Not every one needs a full life: bracket the three highest-risk from your records and confirm the other five.

How do I choose which fragrances to fully retest? From how your old wick behaved in each: the hottest (tallest flame, most mushrooming), the coolest (slowest pool), and the most troublesome. Not by the fragrance's name.

How much does bracketing save? 10 candles, ₹2,913.12 in materials and — with example burn figures — about 18 burn-days.

What if I kept no records? Screen all eight first (one new + one control each, to half-weight), then bracket from the screen. See the no-records route.
The short answer
Answer: Partly — all eight get a side-by-side against a control; three bracket fragrances get the full-life retest; any confirm that disagrees is promoted.
Plans: Plan A: 32 candles, ₹10,155.70. Plan B: 22 candles, ₹7,242.58. Both keep a control for every fragrance.
Capacity: Example: 1216 vs 646 candle-hours; about 38 vs 20 burn-days at 8 positions × 4 h. The lavender-and-vanilla post covers ranges where one type behaves differently.
Eight fragrances, one wick, new supplier: bracket the risk instead of repeating everything Every fragrance is checked; only the ones your own records mark as hardest (and easiest) get a full life British Rose CONFIRM Roasted Coffee FULL LIFE Dark Vanilla FULL LIFE Blue Ocean CONFIRM Bergamot Amber CONFIRM Jasmine CONFIRM Apple Cinnamon CONFIRM Eucalyptus S. FULL LIFE Filled = bracket (chosen from your records) · outline = confirm Plan B · bracket 3 oils × (3 new + 1 control) = 12 5 oils × (1 new + 1 control) = 10 22 candles · ₹7,242.58 ≈ 646 candle-hours (example) any confirm that disagrees → full life Plan A · repeat everything: 8 oils × (3 new + 1 control) = 32 candles · ₹10,155.70 · ≈ 1216 candle-hours With 8 burn positions and one 4-hour session a day (example), Plan A needs about 38 days of burning; Plan B about 20. Plan B saves ₹2,913.12 and roughly 18 burn-days — and still puts every fragrance in front of a control.
The eight tiles are the example range. Filled tiles are the bracket — chosen from your own records of how the old wick behaved, and shown here with example oils only so the kit can be priced. Every tile gets a control candle on the old wick. The dashed panel compares the bracket with repeating everything; burn-hours and days use example consumption and burn-station figures that you replace with your own.
Straight answer
I use one wick size across eight fragrances — if I change wick supplier, should I test all eight fragrances again?
Partly — check all eight, but fully retest only a bracket. Your one wick was really approved eight times, once in each fragrance, and a new supplier's wick has been approved in none of them, however similar it looks. So every fragrance must go side by side with a control on your old wick. What it does not need is a full-life retest for all eight. Use your own records of how the old wick behaved to pick a bracket of three: the fragrance that ran hottest, the one that ran coolest, and the one that gave the most trouble. Those three get three new-wick candles plus a control, burned to the end. The other five get one new-wick candle and one control, burned to about half-weight; any that disagrees with its control is promoted to a full life. That is 22 candles and ₹7,242.58 in CSI materials instead of 32 and ₹10,155.70 — and, with example burn figures, about 18 fewer burn-days. No records? Screen all eight first, then bracket.
One line: every fragrance gets a control; your own records decide which three get a full life.
Changing to CSI wicks across a range? The bracketed plan on this page puts all eight fragrances in front of a control on Eco Candle Wicks Thick C2 (₹9.44 each) and runs a full life only where your records say the risk is — 22 candles, ₹7,242.58 in CSI materials, against ₹10,155.70 for repeating everything.

The short version: check all eight, fully retest only some

Eight fragrances do not need eight full lives. They need eight comparisons and a good reason for each full life.

When you run one wick size across eight fragrances, that wick was approved eight times — once in each fragrance system — even if it felt like one decision. A new supplier's wick, however similar it looks, has been approved zero times. So the question is not whether to check all eight; you should. It is how much evidence each one needs. The answer comes from a principle used in any sensible test plan: concentrate the heavy testing where the risk is, and use lighter checks to confirm the rest behave like the heavy cases. This is called bracketing. It works only if you know where the risk is — and for a range you have been making for a while, you do.

This page assumes the scenario most useful to explain honestly: you are moving from your current wick supplier to CSI's Eco Candle Wicks. We are the new supplier in this story, and the page still tells you to retest. CSI publishes no burn data, construction details or wick-size-per-diameter charts for its wicks, and does not claim that Eco Thick C2 is equivalent to any other brand's wick of any size. The "equivalent size" post explains why that word should never end a conversation about wicks.

The CSI principle
Every fragrance gets a control. Only the hardest and easiest get a full life.
Bracketing saves candles; it never saves the comparison. A fragrance that meets the new wick without a control beside it has not been tested.

Choosing the bracket from your own records

The bracket is only as good as the ranking behind it. Do not rank by guesswork or by the fragrance's name. Rank by what your approved wick actually did in each fragrance when you approved it — the burn logs, photographs and notes you kept. If you kept none, skip to the no-records route. The template below is what to pull out of those records. The numbers are yours to fill in; CSI has no burn data for any of these oils and the table deliberately contains none.

Template — fill from your own approval records for the OLD wick · no CSI data is shown or implied
Risk-ranking sheet for the eight fragrances
Fragrance Tallest flame vs range Most mushrooming Slowest to full pool Deepest pool Complaints / returns Rank
British Rose
Roasted Coffee
Dark Vanilla
Blue Ocean
Bergamot Amber
Jasmine
Apple Cinnamon
Eucalyptus Spearmint

Pick three for the bracket. The first is the fragrance that ran hottest on the old wick — tallest flame, most mushrooming, deepest pool. If the new wick is going to be too much for any fragrance, it will be this one. The second is the fragrance that ran coolest — slowest to full pool, smallest flame. If the new wick is going to be too little, it will be this one. The third is whichever fragrance gave you trouble for any other reason: complaints, a borderline approval, a batch you had to re-pour. The other five then have to sit between the extremes, and the confirm test checks that they do.

Only for pricing: the example bracket
To price the kit, this page uses Dark Vanilla, Roasted Coffee and Eucalyptus Spearmint as the bracket. That is not a claim that those oils burn hotter, cooler or harder than the others — CSI publishes nothing of the kind. It only gives the table real prices. Your records choose your bracket, and the plan's cost will move by a few rupees either way.
The bracket that looks right and isn't. Choosing "the vanilla, the coffee and the citrus" because they sound like the heavy, heavier and light ends of a range. Names are not burn data. A sweet-sounding fragrance may have burned perfectly on your old wick, and a fresh one may have been the one that tunnelled. If your records point somewhere surprising, trust the records. If your records are thin, do not invent a ranking — use the no-records route.

Plan A against Plan B, in candles, rupees and days

The saving that matters is not the rupees. It is the burn table.

Plan A repeats everything: every fragrance gets three candles on the new wick and one control on your old wick, burned to the end of usable wax. That is 32 candles. Plan B brackets: the three chosen fragrances get exactly that, and the other five get one new-wick candle and one control each, burned to about half-weight. That is 22 candles. Both plans put every fragrance beside a control. Three candles per variant in a full-life arm is the series' labelled working minimum.

Arithmetic · 200 g candles, 8% load · burn hours use example figures you replace: 190 g usable wax, 5.0 g per hour, 8 burn positions, one 4-hour session a day
What each plan asks of you
Plan A · repeat all Plan B · bracket Difference
Candles poured 32 22 10
New-supplier wicks used 24 14 10
Controls on your old wick (from your stock) 8 8 0 — every fragrance keeps a control
Candle-hours of burning (example) 1216 646 570
Burn-days at 8 positions × 4 h (example) 38.0 20.2 17.8
CSI materials ₹10,155.70 ₹7,242.58 ₹2,913.12

The rupee saving is real but modest — ₹2,913.12. The bigger saving is burn capacity. A full life is slow: with the example figures, 38 hours per candle, so Plan A ties up your burn table for about 38 days and Plan B for about 20. If you are changing supplier because your old wick is out of stock and Diwali is on 8 November 2026, those days are the difference between qualifying the range in time and not. Replace the example consumption with your own measured grams per hour — weigh a candle before and after a burn and divide by the hours — and the day count becomes yours.

Plan B has one condition that Plan A does not. If any of the five confirm fragrances disagrees with its control — a taller flame, more mushrooming, a slower pool, a warmer jar — it is immediately promoted to a full-life arm, with three new-wick candles and a control. The bracket told you it should behave like the others; it didn't, so it gets tested on its own. That is how bracketing stays honest.

Running Plan B

1
Rank the eight from your records and write the bracket down firstHottest, coolest, most troublesome. Sign and date the choice before you pour, so no one can re-choose the bracket after seeing results.
2
Pour all 22 candles in one sessionOne wax batch, 8% by finished weight (16 g of oil in each 200 g candle), White Matte jars from the same packs. Controls use your old wick from stock; everything else uses the new wick.
3
Cure together to one checkpointSeven days is a labelled example. Every candle starts burning at the same checkpoint.
4
Burn the bracket to the endThree new plus one control per bracket fragrance, cycles of about 3–4 hours with full cool-down (working practice), every burn logged, to the end of usable wax.
5
Burn the confirms to half-weightOne new and one control per remaining fragrance, same cycles, stop at about half their starting weight. Score each new candle against its own control on the confirm sheet below.
6
Promote any disagreementA confirm that is worse than its control on any line becomes a full-life arm straight away. Pour it at once; do not wait for the bracket to finish.
7
Release by fragranceEach fragrance is released on the new wick only when its own evidence is complete: bracket fragrances after the full life, confirm fragrances after the confirm and after the bracket has passed.

Keep the plan honest in three ways. Change only the wick: if the new supplier's wick arrives with a different tab, the end-of-life lines need the extra attention described in the tab-change post. Do not change a load or an oil at the same time — the one-variable post explains why a mixed change makes the whole bracket unreadable. And if an order is already waiting, the emergency 1,000-candle post shows how to compress the schedule without dropping the full life.

The confirm scoring sheet

One row per burn for each confirm pair · bracket fragrances use the full-life sheet in the master checklist
Confirm: new wick against its own control
Line Same as control Worse than control → promote
Flame height (mm, fixed minute) Within your written tolerance Taller beyond tolerance on any burn
Mushrooming (photo) No more than control More than control
Soot (rim, white card) None beyond control Any extra
Minutes to full pool Similar to control Clearly slower, or no full pool
Jar-side reading (same spot and minute) No warmer Warmer
Hot throw (blind, one score) Similar Clearly weaker
Consumption (g per hour) Recorded Recorded — used for the label

CSI publishes no numeric flame-height or jar-temperature limit, so "same as control" is the pass line, alongside your jar supplier's guidance and the fire-safety standard you work to. The wick master checklist has the full-life sheet used by the bracket fragrances and the KEEP / CONFIRM / REPEAT / NEW verdicts for every kind of wick change.

If you have no records: screen first, then bracket

Plenty of small makers approved their wick by burning a few candles and liking them, and kept nothing on paper. That is not a moral failing, but it removes the basis for a bracket. In that case, spend the first round on a quick screen of all eight — one new-wick candle and one control each, to half-weight — and let the screen produce the ranking your records would have. Then run the full lives on the three fragrances that the screen marks as the extremes. You pay for the screen, but you get a record you will use again at the next supplier change.

If the screen shows one type behaving very differently from the rest — for example, only the sweet fragrances mushrooming on the new wick — the question has become the one in the lavender-and-vanilla post, and the new wick may need to be approved for part of the range only.

The false economy. "Test the bestseller fully and assume the other seven." The bestseller is the fragrance you most need to get right, but it is not necessarily the fragrance most likely to fail. Bracketing by sales volume protects revenue on one SKU and leaves seven untested. Rank by burn risk, then make sure the bestseller is inside the plan too — as a bracket fragrance if it earns the place, as a confirm if not.

The priced kits

All sizes are listed and in stock on the pull dates, with a 5% pour-loss allowance (working assumption). The new wick is Eco Candle Wicks Thick C2, sold in 10, 20, 100 and 1,000 packs at ₹9.44 each; the controls use your old supplier's wick from your own stock, so they cost nothing here. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated up to 13% fragrance load by the wax maker, so 8% is inside the stated maximum. The White Matte Glass Jar's fill weight is not published — weigh a test pour to confirm 200 g.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. If you are switching to our wicks, the easiest thing for us to say is "they're a standard size, carry on". We won't. Plan B still needs 22 candles, and if the bracket fails, the honest outcome is that our wick is not the right replacement for your range and you should keep looking. We would rather lose the wick order than have eight fragrances shipping on an untested wick with our name on the invoice.
Qualifying a range before Diwali? Diwali falls on 8 November 2026 and burn-days are the constraint. Send us your eight fragrances, your jar and your old wick on WhatsApp, and we will help you set up the bracket and price the kit — Eco wicks up to 1,000 per pack, oils up to 1 kg per listing, larger quantities by quote. Release, record and the next change

1
Record the bracket and whyWhich three, which lines of your old records put them there, who decided, and the date. This is the part of the record most often missing later.
2
Release fragrance by fragranceUpdate each fragrance's formula card with the new wick — supplier, product name, pack, order date — only when its own evidence is complete.
3
Keep a control of each fragranceOne unburned candle per fragrance on the old wick, and one on the new, labelled with pour and order dates. CSI does not publish lot numbers; your dates are the trail.
4
Burn one from the first production batch of each fragranceAgainst the retained control. If it disagrees, stop that fragrance and find out why.
5
Save the rankingThe new wick's full-life logs become the records for the next supplier change. The recording post shows how to store them so they can be found.
One wick across eight fragrances was always eight approvals. Changing supplier means earning eight again — the bracket just decides how much each one costs.
— CandleMakingSuppliesIndia

The same logic scales up. For twenty fragrances and a wax change rather than a wick change, the 20-fragrance wax post applies bracketing to a bigger range, and the 20-SKU post turns it into a standing rule for which changes need a quick confirmation and which a complete revalidation. If the new wick is also cheaper, the ₹2-per-candle post works out whether the saving pays for this testing.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. In this page's example you are switching to our wicks — and we still tell you to put every fragrance in front of a control, and to walk away from our wick if the bracket fails.

Oil and wax prices are CSI live listings pulled on 24 September 2026; wick and jar prices are those verified for Blog 760 on 10 September 2026, with wick packs rechecked on 25 September 2026. Candle counts, oil quantities (oil = candle weight × load, plus 5%), pack rounding, candle-hours and burn-days are plain arithmetic.

CSI publishes no burn data, composition or wick size charts, and no claim of equivalence between its wicks and any other. The bracket oils are chosen only to price the kit. Three candles per full-life arm, one-plus-one confirms, half-weight stopping, 190 g usable wax, 5 g per hour, 8 burn positions and 4-hour sessions are labelled working practices or examples. Frequently asked questions

If I change wick brand, do I need to retest every candle scent?
Every scent needs a side-by-side against a control on the old wick. Full-life retesting can be limited to a bracket of the highest-risk scents from your records, with shorter confirms on the rest.
What is bracketing in candle testing?
Testing the extremes fully — the fragrances that ran hottest and coolest, plus any troublesome one — and confirming that the rest behave like them. Any confirm that disagrees gets a full test.
How many test candles do I need for eight fragrances?
With a bracket of three: 22 (3 × 4 full-life + 5 × 2 confirm). Repeating everything: 32.
Is a new wick of the same size equivalent to my old one?
Not without testing. Suppliers rarely publish construction details, and CSI does not claim its wicks are equivalent to any other brand's. The equivalent-size post explains why.
How long does a full-life candle test take?
It depends on your measured consumption. With example figures of 190 g usable wax at 5.0 g per hour, one candle needs about 38 hours of burning — roughly ten 4-hour sessions.
Should I test my bestselling fragrance first?
Include it, but rank by burn risk, not sales. The bestseller belongs in the bracket only if your records say it was among the hardest to wick.

Non-price figures and assumptions: CSI convention: fragrance load is a share of the finished candle weight (oil = W × L). The 8% load, bracket of three, four candles per full-life arm, two per confirm, half-weight stopping point, 5% pour loss, 190 g usable wax, 5 g per hour, 8 burn positions, 4-hour sessions and 7-day cure checkpoint are labelled working practices or examples. The bracket oils are chosen only to price the kit; CSI publishes no burn data for them. Controls use the reader's existing wick and are not priced. Material costs exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST. Prices and availability change — the linked product pages are always authoritative.
