I Want to Make a Pastel-Pink Rose Soy Candle — What Should I Buy to Test Fragrance Load, Dye Concentration and Wick Performance Together?
Share
How much red dye for pastel pink? Take D from the red dye's product page (CSI's data carries none, and this page invents none) and test ⅛ D, ¼ D and ½ D at every load.
Why test them together? The oil's own colour moves the shade with load, and the dye is commonly found to change how a wick burns. One-at-a-time tests undo each other.
How many candles? 9 pucks + 15 candles, against 54 candles for every combination.
Three variables that will not sit still
A pastel-pink rose candle looks like a simple brief. It is the hardest of the three-factor problems in this cluster, because each variable leaks into the others. Many fragrance oils carry some colour of their own, so the load you choose moves the shade a pale dye is trying to hit. The dye is extra material in the wax, so in general practice the wick is commonly re-checked once colour is added. And the load changes the burn as well as the throw. Test them one at a time and the second test undoes the first.
So the title's instinct is right: test fragrance load, dye concentration and wick performance together. The trick is to do it without testing every combination — 3 loads × 3 dye steps × 2 wicks × 3 candles would be 54 candles. Instead, the colour is chosen cold on small pucks at every load, so the oil's effect on colour is captured without lighting anything, and only then are loads and wicks burned at the chosen colour, beside undyed controls.
Pink from red: the low-dose ladder
CSI's dye range has no pink listed. A pastel pink comes from a small amount of red in white wax: Candle Dye Liquid Red (₹236.00 for 15 g, ₹472.00 for 50 ml, ₹900.00 for 100 g) or Red Dye Chips (₹250.00). CSI's data carries no dose figure for any dye, and this page invents none. Open the red dye's product page and note the dose it states — call it D. A full D is aimed at a full colour; a pastel lives far below it. The kit's ladder is ⅛ D, ¼ D and ½ D. If ⅛ D is already too strong, halve again; if ½ D is too pale, add ¾ D in a second round.
| Part | Dyed wax (incl. 5%) | Red at the highest step | Your figure |
|---|---|---|---|
| Colour grid (9 pucks of 20 g) | 173.9 g | ½ D × 0.058 kg per load row | _____ |
| Burn candles + shelf, dyed | 1,253.7 g | chosen step × D × 1.254 kg | _____ |
| Whole kit | 1,427.6 g | at most ½ D × 1.428 kg | _____ |
| Production, 75 candles (example) | 7,755.1 g | D* × 7.755 kg | _____ |
At pastel steps the kit dyes at most 1.43 kg of wax at no more than half the page dose, so one 15 g bottle is very likely enough for the kit — but multiply your own D out before relying on that. Liquid dye is easier to split into small, repeatable doses than chips, which is why the kit uses it; if you prefer chips, build the same ladder from the chips' page dose. Weigh every dose; a pastel made by eye cannot be repeated on the next batch.
The jar: clear glass, so the colour shows
A pastel needs clear glass — CSI's White Matte jar would hide it. This kit uses the Yankee Glass Jar 130 ml, clear cap at ₹47.20 each, with a clear cap. Its fill weight is not published; 130 ml is its brim volume. At a commonly used approximation of about 0.86–0.90 g of wax per ml (an assumption that varies by wax and temperature), the brim would hold roughly 112 g–117 g, so this page uses a labelled working fill of 100 g. Confirm it with a weighed pour. At 100 g, each candle is 6 g / 8 g / 10 g of oil at 6% / 8% / 10% (CSI convention: load is a share of the finished weight).
The three-factor kit
The wax is held fixed — Chunks, whose page states a 13% maximum, so 10% has headroom — and so is the oil, British Rose, near the top of CSI's best-selling sort and buyable from 15 g. That leaves exactly the three variables in the title. Stage 1 is the colour grid: every dye step at every load, nine 20 g pucks, no wicks. Stage 2 burns the chosen step at all three loads with both wicks, two candles each, plus an undyed 8% control for each wick and one dyed 10% shelf candle: 15 candles.
| Stage | Load | Dye | Wick | Pieces | Decides |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 · colour grid | 6% · 8% · 10% | ⅛ D · ¼ D · ½ D | None | 9 pucks of 20 g | The dye step for your pink at each load |

| CSI kit subtotal | ₹3,032.60 |
British Rose's 143.2 g comes as 1 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g for ₹554.60; its 15 g is ₹6.29 a gram and its 100 g ₹3.42, so the 100 g carries most of the kit. Chunks are cheapest as 4 × 500 g (₹1,196.00). The Yankee jars are sold singly at ₹47.20, so there is no pack rounding — buy exactly 15, plus any you will use for the fill check. Each wick type is used in 7 candles plus two spares: an Eco Thin C1 20-pack (the 10-pack is out of stock) and a Cotton Braided 10-pack; the shelf candle takes a spare of the winner.

Safety is never traded for colour or throw: "no worse than the undyed control and the other wick, within your jar supplier's guidance and the recognised candle fire-safety standard you work to" (ASTM F2417 is a commonly cited US standard). If the only load that clears your throw floor needs a wick that runs hotter, the answer is a different step, load or wick — not that candle.
The production list, once all three are fixed
The example below is a labelled run of 75 candles with the example result: 8% British Rose, Eco Thin C1, Chunks, in the Yankee jar. The allowance stack is the series order: 2 QC candles, ÷ (1 − 5%) for rejects (pastels are judged closely, so the example reject rate is higher), + 4% pour loss on wax and oil, + 2% breakage on glass, then real CSI packs. The dye line is a formula: D* × the production wax.

If 6% passed instead, the CSI subtotal before dye is ₹11,228.00; at 10% it is ₹12,372.60. The jars are the biggest line in this candle — ₹3,917.60 for 83 singles — and they do not change with load, dye or wick, so they are the one production line that can be ordered with confidence once the fill is confirmed. The 15-SKU post and the standardisation post show how one colour step and one wick can serve several SKUs.

The deep end of the same problem is the black oud post, where the load is fixed and the dye ladder runs up to the page dose. For a custom colour across a large wedding order, the custom-colour post sizes the extra dye and wax. Rose favours in published-fill containers are in the wedding-favour pilot, and the brief → kit → production method is in the lavender hub.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. We sell the dye and the dearer rose. This page tells you a pastel uses a small fraction of the dye's page dose, that the cheaper rose is a fair choice, and that a lower load is cheaper in every candle if it passes.
