Scale-up purchasing
At 2,000 a month, move the materials whose price actually steps with pack size first, and treat wax as a storage plan.
₹35,400.00
monthly saving from moving 2,000 wooden wicks from 10-packs to 100-packs
Quick answers — read this first
What should move to wholesale first at 2,000 a month? Whatever steps most in price: in this example, wooden wicks (₹17.70 saved per candle) and salsa jars (₹10.62 per candle), before fragrance or wax.

Does CSI 464 get cheaper in bigger packs? No. It is ₹0.5074 per gram at 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg. Larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp; ask, but plan on listed prices.

Should all fragrance oils move to 1 kg? Only validated ones. Rose saves ₹0.354 per gram at 1 kg versus 100 g, while Woody Oud saves nothing because both packs cost the same per gram.

How much wax do 2,000 candles need? At 200 g and 8%, 368 kg a month, which costs ₹186,723.20 at listed CSI 464 prices.
The short answer
First move: Vessels and wooden wicks with stepped pricing, then validated oils.
Wax: 368 kg of CSI 464 a month; flat per kg, so ask for a quote.
Exception: CSI 400 costs ₹0.20 more per kg in 5 kg packs than in 1 kg.

Savings apply only to the materials your candles actually use; CSI 464, matte jars and Eco wicks are flat per unit.
Straight answer
I Want to Scale to 2,000 Candles a Month — Which Raw Materials Should Move From Retail Packs to Wholesale Purchasing First?
Move the materials whose unit price drops most with pack size, weighted by how many you use. In an example of 2,000 × 200 g candles at 8% across four fragrances, moving wooden wicks from 10-packs to 100-packs saves ₹35,400.00 a month and salsa jars from 5 to 100 pieces saves ₹21,240.00. Validated fragrance oils come next: British Rose saves ₹2,832.00 a month at 1 kg, while Woody Oud saves nothing. CSI 464 is the same per kg at every listed pack, so wax is a storage and quote question rather than an early win.
One line: at 2,000 candles a month, move vessels, wooden wicks and validated oils to the largest listed packs before worrying about wax.
Performance Wooden Wicks drop from ₹59.00 to ₹41.30 each between the 10 and 100 packs, the largest per-candle step in this plan.

Rank materials by rupees saved, not by kilograms bought

At 2,000 candles a month, the first material to move to big packs is the one whose price actually steps, and that is rarely the wax.

Scaling to 2,000 candles a month changes what is worth your attention. A saving of one rupee per candle is now ₹2,000 a month. But makers often start their wholesale move with wax, simply because wax is the heaviest thing they buy. Weight is the wrong guide. What matters is how much the per-unit price drops between the pack you buy today and the largest pack listed, multiplied by how many units you use.

The worked example is 2,000 candles of 200 g a month at 8% of total candle weight, split evenly across four validated fragrances: British Rose, Lavender, Woody Oud and Roasted Coffee. That is 500 candles per fragrance, 16 g of oil and 184 g of wax per candle. Per month that comes to 8 kg of each oil and 368 kg of wax.

Where retail packs are costing you money

The table compares each material's smallest commonly bought pack with its largest listed pack, per unit, and multiplies the difference by this example's monthly use. Lines that do not apply to your product are still worth reading, because they show where moving up a pack size buys you nothing.

Monthly saving from larger packs
2,000 × 200 g candles at 8%, four fragrances of 500 candles each
Material Retail pack per unit Largest listed pack per unit Difference Monthly use Monthly saving
Performance Wooden Wicks (if used) ₹59.00 (pack of 10) ₹41.30 (pack of 100) ₹17.70 2,000 wicks ₹35,400.00
Clear 200 ml salsa jar (if used) ₹40.12 (5 pcs ₹200.60) ₹29.50 (100 pcs) ₹10.62 2,000 jars ₹21,240.00
Natural Soy Pearl Wax (if used) ₹0.450 per g (1 kg) ₹0.4248 per g (10 kg or 50 kg) ₹0.0252 per g 368 kg ₹9,273.60
CSI 468 (if used) ₹0.650 per g (1 kg) ₹0.637 per g (5 kg or 10 kg) ₹0.013 per g 368 kg ₹4,784.00
British Rose ₹3.422 per g (100 g) ₹3.068 per g (1 kg) ₹0.354 per g 8 kg ₹2,832.00
Lavender ₹5.400 per g (100 g) ₹5.221 per g (1 kg) ₹0.179 per g 8 kg ₹1,432.00
Roasted Coffee ₹3.900 per g (100 g) ₹3.738 per g (1 kg) ₹0.162 per g 8 kg ₹1,296.00
Woody Oud ₹4.5312 per g (100 g) ₹4.5312 per g (1 kg) None 8 kg ₹0.00
CSI 464, matte jars, Eco C1/C2, ready-made wicks Flat Flat None – ₹0.00

Two lessons stand out. First, vessels and wooden wicks, which makers rarely think of as wholesale lines, carry the largest per-unit steps. If your 2,000 candles use salsa jars or wooden wicks and you are still buying small packs, that is where your money is leaking. Second, for this example's oils the saving from moving 100 g packs to 1 kg is real but modest, and for Woody Oud there is none at all, because its 100 g and 1 kg packs cost the same per gram.

Eco Soy CSI 400 goes the other way
CSI 400 is ₹399.00 for 1 kg and ₹1,996.00 for 5 kg, which is ₹399.20 per kg. On 368 kg a month, buying it all in 5 kg packs would cost ₹73.60 more than 1 kg packs (368 × ₹0.20). Always divide before you assume.

The order to move materials to wholesale

Based on the table, here is a sequence that puts the biggest certain savings first. Adapt it to the materials your own candles actually use.

1
Vessels that step in price. If you use salsa jars or mini glass jars, move to the 100-piece pack once a jar is validated. Mini jars drop from ₹25.96 each (5 for ₹129.80) to ₹21.24 each (100 for ₹2,124.00). The salsa jar is ₹29.50 at both 50 and 100 pieces, so the 50 pack already captures the saving.
2
Wooden wicks. If wooden wicks passed your tests, the 100 pack at ₹4,130.00 saves ₹17.70 per candle against the 10 pack. That single change is worth more than every fragrance step combined in this example.
3
Fragrance oils that step.Move each validated oil to 1 kg packs. At 8 kg a month per oil, that is eight 1 kg packs per fragrance, ordered together or in two halves.
4
Waxes whose price steps. If you use CSI 468 or Pearl, buy 5 kg or larger. For CSI 464 there is no step in the listed packs, so the move is about logistics, not price.
5
Then ask for quotes.CSI lists no wax pack above 10 kg for CSI 464; larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp (+91 7397976926). At 368 kg a month it is worth asking, but cost your candles at the listed price until a quote is in writing.

What 368 kg of wax a month really means

At listed prices, 368 kg of CSI 464 is 36 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 3 × 1 kg, costing 36 × ₹5,074.00 + ₹2,537.00 + 3 × ₹507.40 = ₹182,664.00 + ₹2,537.00 + ₹1,522.20 = ₹186,723.20. Per candle that is 184 g × ₹0.5074 = ₹93.36 whichever bag it came from.

The practical issues at this volume are storage and handling rather than price. Thirty-seven bags a month need dry, cool shelving away from heat. CSI 464 states a 60-month shelf life under those conditions, so holding two or three weeks of wax ahead of production is not a quality risk. Melting is the other constraint: the Electric Wax Melter (Imported) page states it melts 9.5 litres of wax at a time, so 368 kg is many melts a month. Plan the melting schedule as carefully as the purchase, and never run a large melter at its maximum setting while adding fragrance.

Moving an unproven fragrance to 1 kg. Wholesale buying only makes sense for formulas that have passed. If a fifth fragrance is still in testing, keep it in 100 g packs until it has passed in your jar with its own wick, even though 1 kg is cheaper per gram. Eight kilograms of an oil that fails is not a saving.

Cash, risk and the monthly rhythm

Bigger packs move money from your bank into your store room. At 2,000 candles that is substantial: the four oils alone at 1 kg pricing cost 8 × (₹3,068.00 + ₹5,221.00 + ₹4,531.20 + ₹3,738.00) = 8 × ₹16,558.20 = ₹132,465.60 a month. If cash is tight, move the high-saving lines first (vessels and wooden wicks), keep buying wax in whatever bag size you can store, and phase oils into 1 kg as each one proves itself in sales.

Shopping split
Keep in retail packs vs move to largest listed packs
Material Keep in small packs while Move to largest listed pack when
Fragrance oil The scent is still being tested or sales are uncertain It has passed in your jar and sells at least 1 kg a month
Salsa or mini jars You are still choosing the vessel The jar is validated with its wick and fill weight
Wooden wicks You are still comparing wick types They passed every fragrance you will use them with
CSI 464, matte jars, Eco wicks Always fine; price is flat Whenever storage and cash allow
New wax trial Always, in 1 kg Never before it passes full burn tests

Review the split every month for the first quarter at this volume. Sales rarely stay even across four fragrances, and a scent that drops to 300 candles a month needs 4.8 kg rather than 8 kg (300 × 16 g). Re-deriving each oil's monthly grams from actual sales, not from the original plan, keeps the 1 kg packs moving and stops slow sellers from building a shelf of opened bottles. Note the batch on every pack you open so that, if a candle ever behaves differently, you can trace which delivery it came from.

The honest answer to this page's question is that at 2,000 a month, wax is the biggest purchase but not the biggest opportunity. Look at the vessel and the wick first, then the oils, and treat wax as a storage plan and a quote request.

Argue against interest
Our wax is not where your scale-up savings are.
CSI 464 costs the same per kg in every listed pack, so buying more at once does not cut your cost per candle. Move jars, wicks and validated oils first.
Weight tells you what is heavy, not what is expensive.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials and production equipment, not finished candles. This guide separates general candle-making practice from what CSI's own product pages state, says plainly where CSI publishes no figure (wick sizes, burn times, hardness), and labels every wick, load, test count or margin as a starting point for your own validation.

Prices are live CSI prices from October 2026; product pages are authoritative. Where a spec is not published — such as a wick size for your jar, a mould's cycle life or a wax's survival temperature — this guide says so rather than filling the gap.

Frequently asked questions

At what volume should I buy candle materials wholesale?
When a validated material's price steps with pack size and you use enough to clear the larger pack each month. At 2,000 candles a month, most stepped lines qualify; flat-priced lines never need to move for price reasons.
Is it cheaper to buy fragrance oil in 1 kg packs?
For most CSI oils, yes. British Rose is ₹3.422 per gram at 100 g and ₹3.068 at 1 kg. Woody Oud is an exception: its 100 g and 1 kg packs cost the same per gram.
How do I get a bulk price for 300 kg or more of soy wax?
CSI lists no CSI 464 pack above 10 kg; larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp (+91 7397976926). Request a written quote, and keep costing candles at listed prices until you have it.
Are candle jars cheaper in bulk from CSI?
It depends on the jar. Clear salsa jars fall from ₹40.12 each in packs of 5 to ₹29.50 at 50 or 100 pieces. Matte 200 ml jars cost ₹70.80 each in packs of 5 or 10.
Should I buy a new fragrance in 1 kg to save money?
Not until it has passed burn tests in your jar with its own wick. Keep testing in 100 g packs; a cheaper per-gram price is no saving if the oil fails.
How much does wax cost per candle at 2,000 candles a month?
With CSI 464 at 184 g per 200 g candle, ₹93.36 whichever pack you buy. Monthly, 368 kg costs ₹186,723.20 at listed prices before any quote. Add your own fragrance, jar, wick and packaging costs for the full figure.

Assumptions: Fragrance load is a percentage of total candle weight (200 g = 184 g wax + 16 g oil at 8%); CSI wax pages phrase their ceilings as a share of wax weight. Material cost per candle covers wax, oil, vessel, wick and dye only — it excludes packaging, labels, labour, shipping and GST. CSI publishes no wick sizing chart, burn times or wax survival temperatures, so every wick named is a candidate to test. Retail prices, budgets, margins and packaging costs are the reader's own figures. Test counts and loads are suggested starting points.
