What 1,000 to 10,000 candles consume

Use one standard candle so the volumes are comparable: 200 g at an 8% load, 184 g of wax and 16 g of oil, with a 3% pour-loss allowance on both, 2% extra wicks and 1% extra glass (labelled working assumptions). Every column scales exactly tenfold between the first and last row — materials are linear in volume. What does not scale linearly is the effort. At 1,000 candles a month, wax is 19 bags; at 10,000, it is 190 bags — around 45 every week. Oil moves from a handful of bottles to dozens of kilos. That is the real reason to change how you buy, and it is a different reason for each component.

Wax: bags, then a quote — and the choice that matters more

On CSI's listings, container wax is flat per kilo from 1 kg upward: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are ₹599.00 a kilo at 1 and 5 kg and ₹599.90 at 10 kg, and Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is ₹507.40 at 1, 5 and 10 kg. So there is no price reason to move from 5 kg to 10 kg bags — two 5 kg Chunks bags are even ₹9.00 cheaper than one 10 kg. The move to 10 kg bags is about handling: half as many bags to open, count and store. Natural Soy Pearl Wax is the one listed wax with a break, from ₹450.00 at 1 kg to ₹424.80 a kilo at 5, 10 and 50 kg.

The second trigger is the bag count. We use 50 bags of 10 kg a month as a labelled handling threshold — roughly two bags every working day. At 200 g and 8% that is about 2,638 candles a month. Past it, a scheduled supply quote — fixed monthly quantities, delivered on dates you agree — usually suits both sides better than repeated listed-pack orders. CSI quotes quantities beyond the listed bags on WhatsApp and publishes no discount figure, so treat any price improvement as a bonus, not a plan.

The last column is the one to look at. At 10,000 candles a month, the difference between the dearest and cheapest listed soy wax is ₹3,30,143.84 a month — far more than any plausible bulk discount on the same wax. But a wax is a formulation, not a commodity: each has its own fragrance ceiling (13% for Chunks, 10% for CSI 464, none published here for Pearl), its own look and its own burn. Change wax only after side-by-side burn tests, and never mid-season. Oils: 100 g, kilo, then a quote, scent by scent

Oil needs 16.48 g per candle here, split by scent. Three example scents show the spread: a top scent at 20% of sales, a middle one at 10% and a slow one at 5%. The table rounds each month's need to the cheapest combination of in-stock CSI packs (50 g and up), and flags the point — above 10 kg of one scent a month, a labelled threshold — where an above-1 kg quote is worth asking for.

The slow scent tells the story. At 1,000 candles a month, Ylang Ylang at 5% needs 824 g — a 500 g and a few 100 g bottles. At 10,000 it needs 8.24 kg, still inside listed kilos. Meanwhile the top scent passes 10 kg a month at about 3,034 candles. So one business, at one volume, can have scents in three different buying modes. Wicks and jars

Wicks are the simplest line. Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 are ₹5.90 each in every pack from 10 to 1,000, so the only question is handling: move to packs of 1,000 once you use a thousand a month. The table shows the two ways to buy each volume — identical in rupees.

Jars are where pack size and product choice both matter. The White Matte Glass Jar used in many of our examples is listed only in packs of 5, at ₹70.80 each. The 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar drops from ₹40.12 each in fives to ₹29.50 in 50s and 100s (26.5% less), and the Mini Glass Jars (black) from ₹25.96 in fives to ₹21.24 in 100s (18.2% less). Fill weights for these jars are not published, so a switch of jar is also a switch of candle — confirm the fill with a weighed test pour.
