CSI Jar & Container Guides · Diameter & Wick
Five hundred jars bought before the wick is proven are a bet on a burn test you have not run. Here is the order to do things in, how long it takes against Diwali and Christmas 2026, and what it costs to get the sequence wrong.
3.1%
of a 500-candle line's materials: the cost of testing the wick first (worked example) · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Should I finalise the wick before ordering 500 jars? Yes. Order a sample pack of the exact jar, wick-test in it, and commit to the 500 only when a wick has passed a full burn-down in that jar.

Why not order now and test while they ship? Because the test can change the order: a jar no available wick suits, a jar that needs two wicks, or a fill weight that changes your wax and oil. On most CSI jars there is no bulk discount to lose by waiting; there is stock to confirm.

How long does it take? In our worked schedule, about four weeks from the day the samples arrive: measure and pour the bracket in a day, cure 14 days (common practice), two burn sessions, then a burn-down. For this year, that makes Diwali (8 November 2026) too early for a new 500-candle line; Christmas (25 December 2026) is reachable.

What does testing first cost? A sample basket of 20 jars, three wick rungs, wax and oil is ₹3,461.80, about 3.1% of the ₹110,976.00 a 500-candle line commits in materials.
The short answer
The sequence: confirm the 500 are in stock → buy a sample pack of the same jar → measure and weigh → pour a nine-candle, three-rung wick bracket → cure → burn → burn the winner down → then order 500 jars, 500 wicks and the wax together.
The money at stake: 500 candles in the Clear 150 g jar with CSI 464 and Jasmine commit ₹110,976.00 of materials (₹220.94 a candle). The wick bill alone ranges from ₹2,950.00 to ₹20,650.00 depending on which wick wins.
The timing: about four weeks after samples arrive, in our worked schedule. Christmas 25 December 2026 works; Diwali 8 November 2026 does not for a new line.
The exception: none for the wick. If you must order early for stock reasons, reserve or confirm stock on WhatsApp; do not pour production before the burn-down.
500 jars, wick first: a worked schedule from 26 September 2026 Drawn to scale, 1 day = 4.8 px. Transit times are assumptions for the example, not CSI delivery promises. 26 Sep 15 Oct 1 Nov 15 Nov 1 Dec 15 Dec Confirm 500 are in stock (WhatsApp) Sample pack in transit (assumed) Measure jars, weigh a test pour Pour the 9-candle wick bracket Cure (14 days, common practice) Bracket burns: 2 sessions per candle Burn the winner down Wick final: order 500 jars + wicks + wax Bulk order in transit (assumed) Production pour, 500 candles Cure Pack and dispatch window Diwali 8 Nov before production starts Christmas 25 Dec reachable Dark bars: work you do. Dashed bars: waiting (transit, cure). Black bar: the one date the 500-jar order should wait for.
A worked schedule, drawn to scale from the day these prices were checked. The 500-jar order waits for one thing: a wick that has passed a burn-down in the sample jar. With a 14-day cure, that is about 1 November, which puts Diwali before production can start and Christmas comfortably in reach. Transit bars are assumptions; confirm dispatch dates on WhatsApp.
Straight answer
I'm ordering 500 jars for a new candle line. Should I finalise the wick before committing to the full jar order?
Yes. The wick test is what tells you the jar works: that some wick you can buy melts a full pool in it without running hot, whether it needs one wick or two, and what the candle weighs. Until you know those, 500 jars are a guess. The sequence is: confirm on WhatsApp that 500 of your exact jar and colour are in stock; buy a sample pack of that jar (20 is enough for a nine-candle bracket, a retest and reference jars); measure the inside and weigh a test pour; pour three candles on each of three wick rungs; cure; burn each for two sessions of 3 to 4 hours; burn the best one down to the last centimetre; and only then order the 500 jars, 500 wicks and the wax together. In our worked schedule that takes about four weeks from the day the samples arrive, and the sample stage costs about 3.1% of what the 500-candle line commits. For most CSI jars there is no bulk discount to lose by waiting, because they are priced flat per jar. The honest exception is timing: if a festival date will not wait four weeks, launch it with a jar and wick you have already proven, not a new one.
One line: buy 20, prove the wick, then buy 500; the jar order is the last decision in the sequence, not the first.
Test in the jar you will buy. A pack of 20 Clear Glass Jars with Golden Lid (150 gram) is ₹1,888.00 (₹94.40 each, in stock on 26 September 2026): three to measure, nine for the bracket, the rest for a retest and as reference samples to check your 500 against.
Buy the sample pack — ₹1,888.00

Four things the wick test can change about your order

If the test could not change the order, you could order first. It can, in four ways.

1. Whether the jar works at all

Most jars can be wicked. Some cannot be wicked well with the wicks you can source: a shoulder or taper leaves the top pool too narrow for a wick the bottom needs, or every rung that reaches the glass in 3 to 4 hours runs the final third hotter than you are comfortable with. You find that out in a burn-down, not on a product page. If it happens after 500 jars have arrived, you own 500 jars for a line you cannot make. Taper effects are taken apart in the narrowing-jar guide.

2. One wick or two

Wider jars sometimes burn better with two smaller wicks than one large one. If the bracket shows that, your wick order doubles, your wick-holding tool changes, and your pouring labour goes up. At C2 prices, a second wick per candle adds ₹4,720.00 across 500 candles. When to plan for one, two or three wicks is in the 1, 2 or 3 wicks guide.

3. The fill weight, and with it your wax and oil order

The sample stage is also where you weigh a real candle in the real jar. A listing's "150g fill capacity" or "200 ml" is a starting point; your fill line and headspace set the number. Get it wrong by 20 g a candle and a 500-candle wax order is off by 10 kg. How to weigh it properly is the fill-weight hub.

4. The wick budget

You cannot cost the line until you know which wick wins, because the wick bill for 500 candles ranges widely across CSI's own wicks:

Wick cost for 500 candles, by bracket outcome · CSI live pricing, 26 September 2026
The same 500 jars, six possible wick bills
If the burn test chooses Buy Price Per candle
Eco C1, one per jar Thin (C1) / 500 Wicks ₹2,950.00 ₹5.90
Eco C2, one per jar Thick (C2) / 500 Wicks ₹4,720.00 ₹9.44
Cotton Braided, one per jar Pack of 500 ₹6,000.00 ₹12.00
Eco C1, two per jar Thin (C1) / 1000 Wicks ₹5,900.00 ₹11.80
Eco C2, two per jar Thick (C2) / 1000 Wicks ₹9,440.00 ₹18.88
Performance Wooden, one per jar 5 packs of 100 ₹20,650.00 ₹41.30

The dearest outcome in the table is 7.0 times the cheapest. Eco and Cotton Braided wicks are priced flat per wick at every pack size, so there is no saving in buying the 500 early either; the wooden wicks are the exception, at ₹59.00 a wick in a pack of 10 and ₹41.30 in a pack of 100.

Mistake: ordering 500 jars and 500 of "the usual wick" together, and testing on the first candles out of the production pour. Why it fails: by the time a burn-down finishes, every jar has been poured with that wick. Fix: jars and wicks in one order, after the burn-down. The only thing to do early is confirm stock.

The cost of getting it wrong, in rupees

The sample stage costs roughly what sixteen finished candles' materials cost. The downside is a whole line.

Worked example: a 500-candle line in the Clear 150 g jar, 150 g candles at 8% in CSI 464, scented with Jasmine Fragrance Oil (its page states "Recommended load up to 10% soy, up to 6% paraffin"; every size in stock on 26 September 2026) and a C2 wick as the placeholder. Jasmine is only the costing example. Costs exclude labour, freight, packaging and GST.

What a 500-candle line commits · worked example, CSI live pricing, 26 September 2026
₹110,976.00 in materials; ₹220.94 a candle
Item Needed Buy Price
Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram) 500 25 packs of 20 ₹47,200.00
Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 69 kg (500 × 138 g) 7 × 10 kg ₹35,518.00
Jasmine Fragrance Oil 6 kg (500 × 12 g) 6 × 1 kg ₹23,538.00
Eco C2 wick (placeholder until tested) 500 Thick (C2) / 500 ₹4,720.00
Total 500 candles 1 kg of wax spare ₹110,976.00

One candle: jar ₹94.40 + 138 g of wax ₹70.02 + 12 g of Jasmine ₹47.08 + one C2 wick ₹9.44 = ₹220.94. Against that, here is what skipping the sample stage can cost:

Getting it wrong · worked examples
What each failure costs if the jar order came before the wick
What the late test found What you had already bought Cost of the mistake
C2, not the C1 you assumed 500 C1 wicks C1 and C2 packs bought: ₹7,670.00; the C1 may suit another jar
The jar needs two wicks 500 single wicks, single-wick tools ₹4,720.00 more in C2 wicks, plus holders and pouring time
No available wick suits the jar 500 jars ₹47,200.00 of jars with no line to fill them
Found only after pouring production 500 poured candles Up to ₹110,976.00 of materials in candles you cannot sell as they are

Against those, the whole sample stage below is ₹3,461.80. Some poured soy candles can be re-melted and re-poured with a new wick, at a cost in labour, lost oil and jar cleaning, so the last row is a ceiling, not a certainty. The first three rows are not.

Argued against our own interest: we sell the 500. Do not order them yet. Our Clear, coloured 150 g and Matte jars are priced flat per jar at every pack size, so waiting four weeks costs you nothing per jar. What waiting can cost is stock, so ask us to confirm stock depth for your jar and colour before you start the test, and again before you order.

The sequence: stock, samples, bracket, burn, order

Seven steps. Only the last one spends real money.
1
Confirm the 500 existBefore you test anything, ask the supplier (us, on WhatsApp, if it is our jar) whether 500 of your exact jar, colour and lid are in stock or when they will be, and whether a sample pack will come from the same batch. Several CSI jar colours are out of stock on 26 September 2026; testing a jar you cannot then buy wastes four weeks.
2
Buy a sample pack of the exact jarSame listing, same colour, same lid. A pack of 20 covers the bracket, a retest and reference jars. Not a "similar" jar you already have: 5 mm inside changes the pool by about 15% on a 7 cm jar (the 5 mm guide).
3
Measure and weighInside diameter at pool height, middle and near the base on three jars; water to your fill line; a test pour to get the real candle weight. Record it all on a spec sheet: it becomes your acceptance standard for the 500.
4
Pour a nine-candle bracketThree wick rungs, three candles each, in your production wax, oil and load, centred identically. Choosing the three rungs is covered in the first-three-wicks guide.
5
Cure, then burn two sessionsYour normal cure (14 days is common practice for soy; many CSI oil pages (25 of 102) state a 48 to 72 hour cure for soy). Then 3 to 4 hours per session, logging pool diameter, pool depth, flame height and soot every hour, two sessions per candle.
6
Burn the winner downIn sessions, to about 1 cm of wax left (common practice for where to stop), never unattended. The final third is where a jar and wick that looked fine on day one can run hot. If it fails, the retest jars from the pack of 20 let you try the next rung without waiting for a delivery.
7
Order jars, wicks and wax together500 jars plus your extras for breakage and rejects, 500 of the winning wick (or 1,000 if two per jar), and wax and oil sized from your weighed candle, not the listing.

If you are testing more than one fragrance for the line, finalise the wick on the heaviest or most demanding one first, then confirm the others with shorter checks; the order to test raw materials in is set out in the raw-material testing order.

This is not a market test
The sample stage answers "does this jar burn well with a wick I can buy?", not "will 500 of these sell?". If demand is the open question, size the first order as in the test-the-market guide; the wick sequence applies to whatever quantity you choose.

How long it takes: Diwali and Christmas

Four weeks of testing is short. It is not short enough for a festival 43 days away.

The schedule in the diagram assumes samples arrive about 3 October 2026 and the bulk order about nine days after it is placed. Those transit times are assumptions for the example; CSI dispatches from Pune and does not publish delivery times, so confirm yours on WhatsApp.

Worked schedule · dates are calendar facts; transit times are assumptions

21 to 31 October 2026 25 to 35 Second sessions; burn the winner down

10 to 13 November 2026 45 to 48 Bulk arrives (assumed); production pour
27 November 2026 62 14-day cure complete; spot-burn one, pack, dispatch
25 December 2026 90 Christmas: about four weeks of selling window

The compressed route, and what it risks

You can shorten the schedule by reading the bracket after the shortest cure a page allows (48 to 72 hours on several CSI oil pages) and choosing a likely winner early, then continuing the full-cure burns and burn-down while the bulk order ships. Our judgement: acceptable only if you do not pour production until the burn-down passes. It saves the waiting on the jar order; it does not save the testing. It still does not reach Diwali 8 November 2026 with a new 500-candle line and a cure.

Argued against our own interest: for Diwali 2026, the honest advice is not to launch a new jar at 500 units. Sell Diwali from a jar and wick you have already proven, and use the festival weeks to run this sequence for a Christmas or Valentine's Day (14 February 2027) launch.

Sample jars, wicks and wax

Three jars that show the choice at 500 units, the three wick rungs, and the wax the costing uses. Chosen on stated wording, price and stock on 26 September 2026; CSI publishes no burn data for any jar, so the sample stage is yours to run.

Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram)
The jar this guide costs with. Its page states "150g fill capacity", "outer diameter 7cm", a base diameter of about 6.5 cm and "Safe for hot pour up to 85°C" (its wording), and it comes with a lid. No inside diameter, and the page gives its 8 cm height both with and without the lid, so measure the sample pack before you plan anything. Pricing is flat: ₹94.40 a jar at 10 or 20, so 500 cost exactly 25 packs of 20 and ordering early saves nothing. For a lidded mid-size line. Limitation: several coloured versions carry a stale "Deliveries Starting 5th Dec" in their titles; confirm dispatch on WhatsApp if you switch colour.

200ml Salsa Glass Jar with 63mm Lug Cap
Of the three jars here, the cheapest route to 500: ₹29.50 a jar at 100 Pcs against ₹40.12 at 5 Pcs (26.5% less), so 500 are ₹14,750.00. It is also, of the three, the jar where testing first matters most: the page states "The 200ml capacity" and "Heat Resistant Glass… withstands the heat of hot wax without cracking or warping" (its claim; no figure), and no height, no diameter and no fill line; it calls the jar "upcycled". Lug-cap jars usually have a shoulder, so the pool at the top of the candle is narrower than the body. Ask us for dimensions, then measure. Limitation: coloured Salsa versions are ₹62.00 a jar with no volume discount.

Eco C1 / C2 and Cotton Braided Wicks
The bracket needs three rungs so the answer can land in the middle or either end. Eco C1 and C2 are ₹5.90 and ₹9.44 a wick at every pack size; Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made are ₹12.00 a wick at every pack size, and that page says "engineered for large-diameter candles exceeding 8 cm" (inside or outside not stated). None of these pages states an inside-diameter range, so none of them is an answer before the burn. Limitation: if your line is wooden-wick, bracket three wooden widths instead.

Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (Flakes Form) For Container Candles
The page states "Fragrance Load Up to 10%", "Pour Temperature 80°C – 90°C" and "Ideal for single-pour container candles". With the 150 g jar's stated "hot pour up to 85°C", the lower limit governs: pour at 80°C to 85°C. Test the bracket in the exact wax you will produce with; a wick finalised in one wax is not finalised in another. Price is flat per gram from 1 kg to 10 kg (₹0.51), so the sample stage costs no more per gram than production. Limitation: 10% is a ceiling, not a target; bracket at the load you will sell.

When the right purchase is nothing: if you already hold 20 of the exact jar from the same supplier, and wicks, wax and oil for nine candles, start the bracket today. Your first order from us might then be the 500, which is the right way round.

When you do order the 500: what to lock in

The order is the moment the test turns into a specification. Write it down.

Four things make the tested wick hold across 500 jars.

A spec sheet from the sample stage: jar name and link, inside diameter at three heights, water to fill line, finished candle weight, wick, load, wax, pour temperature. It is your acceptance standard for the delivery.

Reference jars: keep two unpoured sample jars. When the 500 arrive, measure a handful against them. If some differ, sort and test as in the sort-and-test guide for received jars; why batches drift is in the batch-variation guide.

Extras: order a few more jars than candles for breakage, rejects and spot-burns; how many is a judgement call, set out for a first run in the 100-jar extras guide.

Continuity: if this line will be reordered for years, ask the questions in the reorder-for-years guide now, while you are placing the first large order.

Christmas is 25 December 2026, 90 days from 26 September 2026. Start the sample stage this week and a tested 500-candle line can be poured by mid-November. When your wick passes the burn-down, send us your spec sheet: we will quote 500 jars, wicks and wax with a GST invoice and a dispatch date.

The CSI principle
The jar order is the last decision, not the first.
Confirm stock, test in the exact jar, burn the winner down, then buy jars, wicks and wax together from a written spec.

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the jars, wicks, wax and oil named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page tells you not to order 500 of our jars yet, that most of our jars cost the same per jar at 10 as at 500, and that a new line for Diwali 2026 is too late to test properly.

Every price, per-jar and per-wick figure was verified on CSI's live store on 26 September 2026; every pack in a pick table is in stock on that date, and out-of-stock colours are named where relevant. Product wording is quoted from the pages; where a page is silent, we say so.

The 500-candle costing and the failure scenarios are worked examples; the transit times in the schedule are assumptions; the pack of 20, the nine-candle bracket and the compressed-route verdict are editorial judgement; 3 to 4 hour sessions, a 14-day cure and stopping with about 1 cm left are common practice. For bulk pricing, GST invoicing, and MSDS and IFRA documentation on request, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Should I test wicks before buying candle jars in bulk?
Yes. Buy a sample pack of the exact jar, pour a three-rung wick bracket, cure, burn and burn the winner down. Order the bulk jars, wicks and wax together only after that. In our worked schedule it takes about four weeks from the day the samples arrive.
How many sample jars do I need before a 500-jar order?
A pack of 20 covers three jars to measure, a nine-candle bracket (three wicks × three candles), six for a retest and two kept as reference samples. A pack of 10 covers the bracket alone.
How long does wick testing take for a new candle jar?
About four weeks after the samples arrive in our worked schedule: a day to measure and pour, a 14-day cure (common practice for soy), two burn sessions of 3 to 4 hours per candle, then a burn-down of the winner in sessions.
Is it cheaper to order candle jars in bulk straight away?
Not on most CSI jars: the Clear and coloured 150 g jars and the Matte 8 × 7 cm family are priced flat per jar at every pack size. Among the jars in this guide, the 200ml Salsa clear jar is the exception, ₹29.50 a jar at 100 against ₹40.12 at 5. Confirm stock before testing, then order after.
What if I order 500 jars and no wick works?
You own 500 jars without a line: ₹47,200.00 in our Clear 150 g example. A sample pack and a nine-candle bracket, about ₹3,461.80 with wax and oil, finds that out first.
Can I launch a new 500-candle line for Diwali 2026?
Not with proper testing. Diwali is 8 November 2026, 43 days from 26 September 2026; our worked schedule only finalises the wick about 1 November. Sell Diwali from a proven jar and wick, and aim the new line at Christmas, 25 December 2026.
Wick first, 500 second
A sample basket of 20 jars, three wick rungs, wax and oil: ₹3,461.80.
Confirm stock of your 500, measure the sample jars, pour nine candles on three rungs, cure, burn and burn the winner down. Then order 500 jars, the winning wick and the wax in one go, from a spec sheet, in time for Christmas.
