Buyer question · Wax melt business
A wax melt business needs five things: a wax, oils, colour, a shape and a pack. You can buy all five from CSI, with two honest caveats — we do not list a wax made specifically for melts, and two of our dye colours are out of stock. This page prices the whole launch anyway, from the first 15 g tester to 96 packed melts.
₹9,925.12
materials for 96 wax melt packs in six scents · 60 g packs at 10% in Luxury Soy Wax Chunks · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Which wax should I use for wax melts? CSI does not list a melt-specific wax. For melts poured into clamshells or containers, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are the natural choice and are rated up to 13% fragrance load. For moulded shapes that must release, test Soy Pillar Wax. See wax.

How much fragrance oil goes in wax melts? Our maths uses 10%: 6 g of oil in a 60 g pack. Chunks allow up to 13% and CSI 464 up to 10%; never go above the wax's stated maximum. For waxes with no published ceiling, ask first.

Which dyes and moulds do I need? Liquid dyes cost ₹236.00 (red, blue, purple, brown, black in stock; green and yellow liquid are out of stock). Dye chips ₹236.00–₹250.00. Ten melt moulds from ₹153.40 to ₹588.82. See colour and shape.

What does the whole launch cost? ₹2,039.48 to test six oils, then ₹9,925.12 for 96 packed melts. ₹11,964.60 in all, before labels, packaging, freight and GST.
The short answer
Wax: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (up to 13%) for poured melts · Soy Pillar Wax for moulded shapes (ceiling not published) · CSI 464 (up to 10%) · Soy Wax 464 Pellets out of stock.

Per pack: 60 g pack at 10% in Chunks, with a ₹29.50 container: ₹83.09 to ₹97.25 in materials, oil at 100 g rates.

The bar is the launch materials bill split by category. Oils are 27% of it because melts run a higher load than candles and there is no jar to dilute the cost. The containers are the second-biggest line, which is why the container decision — CSI's heart or square containers, or moulds plus your own packaging — matters as much as the oil decision.
Straight answer
I'm starting a wax melt business. Which wax, fragrance oils, dyes and moulds do I need?
You need a wax with a known fragrance ceiling, a handful of oils that cost well at a high load, a few dyes, and a mould or container. Wax: CSI does not list a melt-specific wax, so for melts poured into clamshells or containers use Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, rated up to 13%; test Soy Pillar Wax for moulded shapes, and ask for its ceiling first. Oils: six to start — Mango Coconut, Fresh Strawberries, Cinnamon Vanilla, Eucalyptus Spearmint, Lemongrass and Lime and Peach Melon Berry, testers ₹579.08. At 10% in a 60 g pack each 100 g bottle scents 16 packs. Dyes: liquid red, blue, brown (₹236.00 each) and yellow chips (₹250.00); green and yellow liquid dye are out of stock. Shape: CSI's heart or square melt containers at ₹29.50 each, or silicone moulds from ₹153.40. The whole 96-pack launch is ₹9,925.12 in materials after a ₹2,039.48 test stage.
One line: Chunks, six oils at 10%, four dyes, one container — tested for ₹2,039.48, launched for ₹9,925.12.
The wax that carries the most oil on our shelf, with a published ceiling: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, rated up to 13% fragrance load — 500 g ₹299.00, 1 kg ₹599.00, 5 kg ₹2,995.00. At 10%, 5 kg of Chunks plus 556 g of oil makes about 92 packs of 60 g. The launch on this page uses 5.5 kg (₹3,294.00).

The wax — and why there is no melt wax

Our catalogue has no product called "wax melt wax". It has waxes that do the job, and one of them has a ceiling high enough for melts.

A wax melt does not have a wick. It sits in a warmer and releases scent as it melts, and it is thrown away when the scent is spent. That changes what you need from the wax. You want it to hold a lot of oil, because a melt has no flame to project scent and makers commonly run melts at a higher load than candles. You want it to set firmly enough to survive a clamshell or pop out of a mould. And you want to know its ceiling, because a load above what the wax maker states is a guess.

Soy Wax 464 Pellets Out of stock (all sizes) — Not buyable on the pull date —

On those facts, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are the default for this plan. They are the only CSI wax with a published ceiling above 10%, and a soft container soy pours well into clamshells and containers. The trade-off is softness: a container soy is not designed to release cleanly from a detailed mould. If your brand is built on shapes — roses, clouds, coffee beans — test Soy Pillar Wax in the mould you will use. Its ceiling is not in our data, so ask for the wax maker's stated maximum on WhatsApp before you run it at melt loads. Fully Refined Paraffin Wax Pellets cost the least per pack, but there is no published ceiling for those either, and a paraffin melt is a different product story from a soy one.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. We list more waxes than you need, and it would suit us to sell you three. Start with one. Every wax changes how an oil behaves, so testing six oils in three waxes is eighteen experiments, not six. Choose Chunks for poured melts, prove your six scents in it, and add a second wax only when you add a product that needs one, such as moulded shapes.

Fragrance load and the ceiling rules

Load is oil as a percentage of the finished weight. A 60 g pack at 10% is 6 g of oil and 54 g of wax. The rules for this plan are simple. Chunks: up to 13%. CSI 464: up to 10%. Those are the wax makers' stated formulation maximums, not regulatory limits. Every other wax: no ceiling published in our data — ask before you set a load, and treat 6–10% as a test range only. Never exceed 13% in any wax on this page.

60 g pack · Luxury Soy Wax Chunks · Mango Coconut at its 100 g rate · ₹29.50 container
What each load costs per pack
Load Oil Wax Oil cost Material cost per pack Packs per 1 kg of oil
8% 4.8 g 55.2 g ₹24.00 ₹86.56 208.3
10% 6.0 g 54.0 g ₹30.00 ₹91.85 166.7
12% 7.2 g 52.8 g ₹36.00 ₹97.13 138.9
13% 7.8 g 52.2 g ₹39.00 ₹99.77 128.2

From 10% to 13% the oil cost per pack rises by 30% and the number of packs a kilo of oil scents falls from 166.7 to 128.2. Whether that buys a stronger melt depends on the oil and the wax; it is not automatic. That is why the test stage below tries 8%, 10% and 12% for each oil, all within the Chunks ceiling. How Much Fragrance Oil Should I Use in Wax Melts? and Best Fragrance Load for Strong Wax Melts go deeper on the load question.

If you use CSI 464, 10% is the ceiling, not the starting point
CSI 464 is cheaper per pack (₹27.40 of wax against ₹32.35 for Chunks), but its stated maximum is 10%. A melt business that later wants to test 12% would have to change wax and re-test everything. If you think you will want headroom, start in Chunks.

Six oils for a first melt range

Melts use more oil per gram of product than candles, so a melt range should be chosen with one eye on the kilo price.

Six scents is enough to fill a small shelf and a first market stall without tying up money in stock. These six cover fruit, gourmand, fresh and citrus — families commonly bought in melts — and all have an in-stock 15 g and 100 g. Five of the six are among the 24 oils in the catalogue where the 1 kg is genuinely cheaper per gram than the 100 g. That matters more for melts than for candles, because the oil is a bigger share of every pack. We have not published throw measurements for any oil, so these are chosen on family, price and price breaks, not on strength.

Colour and shape: dyes, moulds, containers

Colour tells a customer what a melt smells like before they open it. CSI lists liquid dyes, dye chips and mica. Two gaps matter for a melt range: green and yellow liquid dyes are out of stock, and so are green dye chips. Yellow is covered by yellow dye chips (₹250.00). For a green-looking fresh scent, you can use blue liquid dye for a cool colour, or green mica (10 g ₹57.82) for a shimmer effect — mica is a surface pigment and colours differently from a dye, so test it. Dye doses per kilo of wax are not in our data; follow each dye's product page and test on a small batch first.

Containers or moulds?

There are two ways to make and sell a melt. Pour straight into a container: CSI's Wax Melts Containers come in heart or square, ₹147.50 for 5, ₹295.00 for 10, ₹1,475.00 for 50 and ₹2,950.00 for 100 — ₹29.50 each at every pack size. Their fill weight is not published, so weigh one filled with water before you plan; this page assumes 60 g, and if yours holds less, every pack figure scales down. Or cast in a silicone mould and pack the pieces in your own bags or boxes. Cavity weights are not published for any mould either: fill one cavity with water or wax and weigh it.

30-Cavity Cloud Mould ₹529.82 Not published — weigh one filled cavity
Wax Sachet Mould (6 pieces) ₹588.82 Not published — weigh one filled cavity

For a launch, one container style and one mould is plenty. This plan uses the containers for the 96 retail packs and a 15-Cavity Rose Mould (₹153.40) for the test stage, because small moulded pieces let you test three loads per oil cheaply. The Wax Sachet Mould makes aroma sachets, a related but separate product — see I Want to Make Soy Candles, Wax Melts and Mould Candles — Can I Use the Same Fragrance Oils for All Three? if you plan to sell more than one product type from the same oils.

Testing before you launch

Each 15 g tester runs a three-load test: three 30 g batches at 8%, 10% and 12% (2.4 g, 3 g and 3.6 g of oil, 9 g in all), leaving 6 g to re-test the winning load. All three loads sit inside the Chunks ceiling of 13%.

1
Weigh your mould or container firstFill one rose cavity and one heart or square container with water and weigh them. Every later figure is built on that number, and it is not published for any CSI mould or container.
2
Make three 30 g batches per oil8%: 2.4 g oil + 27.6 g wax. 10%: 3 g + 27 g. 12%: 3.6 g + 26.4 g. Use a scale that reads to 0.1 g if you can; at these weights a gram is a large error.
3
Add colour to one batch onlyColour the 10% batch with the dye you plan to use, so you can see the finished look and catch any colour change as the melt cures.
4
Cure and labelMelts in soy are commonly left a few days to a week before judging. Label every piece with oil, load and date.
5
Warm them the way a customer willOne piece at a time in the same warmer, same room. Score scent at 15, 30 and 60 minutes and note how long the scent lasts in the pool. Air the room between tests.
6
Pick one load for the whole rangeIf most oils perform at 10%, run the range at 10% and keep packaging and costing simple. Raise a single oil only if it clearly needs it, and never above 13% in Chunks.
The common mistake: frosting mistaken for failure. Soy melts often develop a white bloom on the surface as they cure. It is commonly cosmetic, not a sign the oil has failed. Judge scent, not appearance, in the test — then decide whether you need a harder wax or a different pour temperature for the look you want.

Test and launch together come to ₹11,964.60. The average per pack (₹103.39) is higher than the per-pack table above because it spreads the dyes, the 4 spare containers and the wax allowance across 96 packs; the dyes in particular will last well beyond this first run. Labels, outer packaging, labour, freight and GST are not included. The working allowance of 3–5% for pour loss is built into the wax line.

The CSI principle
In a wax melt, the oil is the product.
A candle sells light, a jar and a scent. A melt sells almost only the scent. That is why the oil is the largest line on this bill, why the load decision needs a test, and why the kilo price of each oil matters from the day a scent starts reordering.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished products. We do not list a wax made specifically for melts, and green and yellow liquid dyes were out of stock on the pull date. This page says both plainly and builds the launch around what can actually be bought today.

Oil and wax prices come from live CSI listings pulled on 24 September 2026; dye, mould, container and wick prices from the 24–25 September 2026 pull; scale and thermometer prices are Blog 760's figures verified on 10 September 2026. Per-pack and bill totals are arithmetic on those prices.

The 60 g pack, 10% load, 8/10/12% test ladder and cure times are working assumptions. Fill weights for the heart and square containers and cavity weights for the moulds are not published — weigh them. Only Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (up to 13%) and CSI 464 (up to 10%) have published fragrance ceilings in this series. For ceilings, MSDS and IFRA documentation, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best wax for wax melts in India?
CSI does not list a melt-specific wax. For melts poured into clamshells or containers, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are the natural choice: rated up to 13% fragrance load, ₹599.00 a kilo. For moulded shapes, test Soy Pillar Wax and ask for its stated ceiling first.
How much fragrance oil do I need for 100 wax melts?
At 10% in a 60 g pack, 6 g per pack, so 600 g for 100 packs. At 10 g per cube, 1 g per cube, so 100 g for 100 cubes. Weigh your own container or cavity first — fill weights are not published.
What is the maximum fragrance load for wax melts?
It depends on the wax, not the product. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated up to 13% and CSI 464 up to 10%. For waxes with no published ceiling, ask CSI on WhatsApp for the wax maker's stated maximum. Never go above the wax's stated ceiling.
What dye should I use for wax melts?
Liquid candle dyes (₹236.00 for 15 g or 15 ml) or dye chips (₹236.00–₹250.00). Green and yellow liquid dyes and green chips were out of stock on the pull date; yellow chips are in stock. Doses are not in our data — follow the product page and test.
How much does it cost to start a wax melt business?
On CSI's listed prices, about ₹2,039.48 to test six oils and ₹9,925.12 in materials for 96 packs of 60 g — ₹11,964.60 in all, before labels, packaging, freight and GST.
Can I use candle fragrance oils in wax melts?
Yes — the same oils are used in both. What changes is the load and the wax. I Want to Make Soy Candles, Wax Melts and Mould Candles — Can I Use the Same Fragrance Oils for All Three? covers using one oil inventory across candles, melts and mould candles.

They are general product reviews, not assessments of the guidance set out here. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me and wording is unedited. "Verified buyer" appears only on the three reviews Judge.me recorded as verified — Monika Deep, Subhankar Roy and Sneha Tamang; the reviews from Ashwini, LJ and Lalitha Jagan are published but not recorded as verified, and carry no badge.

The 60 g pack and 10 g cube are illustrative; container fill weights and mould cavity weights are not published. Fragrance-load ceilings of up to 13% (Chunks) and up to 10% (CSI 464) are the wax makers' stated formulation maximums, not regulatory limits; no ceiling is published in our data for Soy Pillar Wax or paraffin.
