Price per kg vs real cost · Pack size
A cheaper per-kilo carton pays from a very small volume. What decides it is how long the wax waits on your shelf. Here is the threshold, worked with example prices you replace, and the real price steps in CSI's soy range.
8.3 kg
monthly use at which a 25 kg carton makes sense in the example (3-month storage window) · CSI lists no 25 kg carton · CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
At what volume does a 25 kg carton pay? On price, from about 2.1 kg a month in the example. With a 3-month storage window, from 8.3 kg a month (≈44 candles).

Why is the storage window the real limit? The carrying cost of half a carton is small; wax that waits months, an often-opened bag and a whole lot riding on one delivery are not.

Does CSI sell 25 kg cartons? No 25 kg carton is listed. The CSI 464 page mentions a 25 kg format — ask on WhatsApp whether it is available. Bags go to 10 kg; Soy Pearl to 50 kg.

Where are CSI's real price steps? Soy Pearl 5.6% and CSI 468 2.0%, both at 5 kg. Chunks and CSI 464 are flat. See the ladders.
The short answer
Answer: Threshold = the larger of (carrying cost ÷ saving per kg) and (carton ÷ storage window). Example: 8.3 kg a month.
CSI packs: No carton listed. Soy Pearl ₹450.00 → ₹424.80 a kilo at 5 kg; CSI 468 ₹650.00 → ₹637.00; Chunks and CSI 464 flat.
Check: First larger bag = new lot: 3 + 3 candles against a retained sample. Full cost formula.
Where CSI's soy-wax price steps really are Price per kg at every listed pack · CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026 · no 25 kg carton is listed ₹400 ₹450 ₹500 ₹550 ₹600 ₹650 500g 598 1kg 599 5kg 599 10kg 599.9 Chunks 500g 520 1kg 507.4 5kg 507.4 10kg 507.4 CSI 464 500g 650 1kg 650 5kg 637 10kg 637 CSI 468 1kg 450 5kg 424.8 10kg 424.8 50kg 424.8 Soy Pearl Chunks is flat (the 10 kg bag is ₹0.90 a kilo dearer than 1 kg); CSI 464 is flat from 1 kg; CSI 468 steps 2.0% at 5 kg; Soy Pearl steps 5.6% at 5 kg — the only real break. Above 5 kg, no CSI soy wax gets cheaper per kilo.
Each bar is the price per kilo of one listed CSI pack, computed from the live listing. Only Natural Soy Pearl and CSI 468 get cheaper at 5 kg; nothing gets cheaper above 5 kg, and Chunks' 10 kg bag is fractionally dearer per kilo than its 1 kg bag. CSI lists no 25 kg carton.
Straight answer
My supplier charges more for 10 kg packs than 25 kg cartons — at what monthly production volume does the larger pack become worthwhile?
Usually from a low volume on price — the real limit is how long the carton waits. With labelled example prices of ₹500.00 a kilo in 10 kg packs and ₹475.00 in 25 kg cartons, the carton adds about 7.5 kg of average stock, costing ₹53.44 a month at an example 18% a year. Against a ₹25.00-a-kilo saving, that pays from about 2.1 kg a month. But if you only want an opened carton in your store-room for an example three months, you need to use 8.3 kg a month (about 44 candles of 200 g at 8%) — that is the practical threshold. On CSI's own catalogue there is no 25 kg carton: container bags stop at 10 kg, and the only meaningful pack step is Natural Soy Pearl's ₹450.00 → ₹424.80 a kilo at 5 kg (CSI 468 steps 2.0% at 5 kg). Chunks' 10 kg bag is not cheaper per kilo than its 1 kg bag.
One line: price breaks pay from tiny volumes; the storage window, cash and a lot check decide.
CSI lists no 25 kg carton. The pack step that does exist is Natural Soy Pearl Wax: ₹450.00 for 1 kg, then ₹424.80 a kilo from 5 kg (₹2,124.00 for 5 kg, ₹4,248.00 for 10 kg). Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 has a smaller 2.0% step at 5 kg (₹3,185.00). Chunks and CSI 464 do not get cheaper per kilo above 1 kg.

Almost as soon as you can use the carton before it ages — the price maths is the easy part

A larger pack pays from a surprisingly small volume. What stops it is time, cash and trust in the wax.

Your supplier charges more per kilo for 10 kg packs than for 25 kg cartons. You want the monthly production volume at which the carton becomes worthwhile. The title gives no prices, so this page uses labelled example figures you replace: ₹5,000.00 for a 10 kg pack (₹500.00 a kilo) and ₹11,875.00 for a 25 kg carton (₹475.00 a kilo) — a ₹25.00 gap. The carton costs you extra stock on the shelf: on average you hold half a carton (12.5 kg) instead of half a pack (5 kg), so 7.5 kg more. At ₹475.00 a kilo and an example 18% a year cost of money, carrying that costs ₹53.44 a month.

The carton saves ₹25.00 on every kilo you use. So on price alone it pays from about 2.1 kg a month — roughly 11 candles of 200 g at 8%. That is so low that price is almost never the deciding factor. The real threshold is the time it takes to use the carton. If you only want an opened carton of wax in your store-room for, say, three months (an example storage window you set), you need to use at least 8.3 kg a month — about 44 candles — for the carton to make sense. Below that, the saving is real but the wax sits too long. How long is too long depends on your store-room; storing 100 kg through an Indian summer covers the storage conditions to confirm first.

So the honest answer: take the carton once you use more than about 8 kg a month, provided the wax is approved, you can spare the cash and you can store it cool and dry. At 25 kg a month the carton saves ₹7,500.00 a year on these example prices. On CSI's own listed packs the question changes shape — there is no carton, and the pack steps sit much lower down, at 5 kg.

The CSI principle
The pack-size threshold is set by how long the wax waits, not by how much it saves.
Price breaks pay from tiny volumes. Storage time, cash and wax approval decide when a larger pack is sensible.

The threshold table: monthly volume against the carton

Here is the reader's example run across monthly volumes. Candles are 200 g at 8% (184 g of wax) with a 4% pour and test allowance (a working assumption). "Months to use" is how long one 25 kg carton lasts. The carrying cost is the same at every volume because the extra stock is always half a carton less half a pack.

Example prices ₹500.00 / kg (10 kg) and ₹475.00 / kg (25 kg carton) · 18% a year cost of money · 3-month example storage window
When the 25 kg carton beats the 10 kg pack
Wax used a month Candles a month Months to use a carton Saving a month Carrying cost a month Net a month Inside 3-month window?
3 kg 16 8.3 ₹75.00 ₹53.44 ₹21.56 No — carton outlives the window
5 kg 26 5.0 ₹125.00 ₹53.44 ₹71.56 No — carton outlives the window
8 kg 42 3.1 ₹200.00 ₹53.44 ₹146.56 No — carton outlives the window
10 kg 52 2.5 ₹250.00 ₹53.44 ₹196.56 Yes
15 kg 78 1.7 ₹375.00 ₹53.44 ₹321.56 Yes
25 kg 131 1.0 ₹625.00 ₹53.44 ₹571.56 Yes
50 kg 261 0.5 ₹1,250.00 ₹53.44 ₹1,196.56 Yes

Every row shows a positive net, even at 3 kg a month — and in per-candle terms the ₹25.00 gap is only ₹4.60 on a 200 g candle at 8%, as the ₹20, ₹50 or ₹100 a kilo post explains. The net is still positive — the ₹25.00 gap is large against the carrying cost. What changes down the table is the time column. At 3 kg a month a carton lasts more than eight months; at 5 kg, five months. Those are the rows where the saving is technically there and practically unwise: the wax ages, the bag gets opened and closed dozens of times, and any problem with the lot affects half a year of candles. From about 8 kg a month the carton is used inside the example window and the decision becomes easy.

Replace the example figures with your supplier's real quotes
The threshold in three lines
Test Formula Example result
Price break-even Carrying cost a month ÷ saving per kg ₹53.44 ÷ ₹25.00 = 2.1 kg a month
Storage window Carton size ÷ months you accept holding it 25 kg ÷ 3 = 8.3 kg a month
Threshold The larger of the two 8.3 kg a month ≈ 44 candles
Shrink the gap and re-run
If the carton is only ₹5.00 a kilo cheaper, the price break-even rises to 10.7 kg a month — still low. The storage window almost always dominates. The 100 kg discount at 25 kg a month covers the case where the larger quantity is several months of stock rather than a few weeks.

CSI's real ladders: where a bigger bag actually lowers the price

On CSI's catalogue the question is not 10 kg vs 25 kg. It is 1 kg vs 5 kg — and only for two waxes.

CSI does not list a 25 kg carton. The CSI 464 product page mentions a 25 kg format that is not a listed size — ask on WhatsApp whether 25 kg is available before planning around it; it is not priced here. What is listed is a ladder of bags from 500 g to 10 kg (Natural Soy Pearl to 50 kg). Computed from the listed prices, the per-kilo picture is below. The last column shows each pack's per-kilo price against the same wax's 1 kg bag.

Soy Pearl 10 kg ₹4,248.00 ₹424.80 -5.6%
Soy Pearl 50 kg ₹21,240.00 ₹424.80 -5.6%

Four facts fall out of that table. Chunks never gets cheaper per kilo as the bag grows — its lowest rate is actually the 500 g bag at ₹598.00 — and the 10 kg bag at ₹599.90 is fractionally dearer than the 1 kg at ₹599.00, so two 5 kg bags (₹5,990.00) cost ₹9.00 less than one 10 kg bag (₹5,999.00). CSI 464 is ₹507.40 a kilo at 1, 5 and 10 kg; only its 500 g bag is dearer (₹520.00 a kilo). CSI 468 steps from ₹650.00 to ₹637.00 a kilo at 5 kg — 2.0%, worth ₹65.00 on a 5 kg bag or ₹2.39 a candle. Natural Soy Pearl steps from ₹450.00 to ₹424.80 at 5 kg — 5.6%, worth ₹126.00 on 5 kg or ₹4.64 a candle — and then stays flat through 10 kg and 50 kg.

So on CSI's catalogue the threshold is about the 5 kg bag, and only for two waxes. With the same 3-month example storage window, a 5 kg bag is worth buying once you use at least 1.7 kg a month — about 9 candles. Above 5 kg, buy whatever size is convenient to handle and store: 10 kg bags save handling, not money. For larger quantities ask on WhatsApp; no volume discount figure is published.

Buying the biggest bag because "bigger is cheaper". On CSI's listed prices it is not, above 5 kg — and for Chunks it is not at all. Fix: compute the per-kilo price of every pack before ordering. For Chunks buy 5 kg bags; for Soy Pearl and CSI 468 buy at least 5 kg once your volume supports it; for CSI 464 any size from 1 kg costs the same per kilo.

Moving up a pack size means a new lot: check it

A larger pack is usually a different production lot from the small bags you approved the wax with. CSI publishes no lot numbers, certificates of analysis or batch-consistency data, so the check is yours. Keep a retained sample from your last approved small bag. When the first larger bag arrives, pour 3 candles from the retained sample (the control) and 3 from the new bag, with the same Jasmine Fragrance Oil at 8% (16 g oil + 184 g wax), Eco Thin C1 wick and White Matte jar. It takes 580 g of each wax from stock.

1
Label the new bag before opening itWrite the order date, pack size and arrival date on the bag. That is your lot record. Take a 300 g retained sample from it the day you open it and seal it.
2
Pour 3 + 3 on the same dayThree candles from the retained small-bag sample, three from the new bag. Same oil lot, same wicks, same jars, same temperatures. For CSI 468, CSI's product page states pour 58–60°C; Natural Soy Pearl's page publishes no temperatures — use your approved process.
3
Compare the unscented wax tooMelt 50 g of each wax with no oil and pour two small discs side by side. Compare colour and surface after cooling. A visible difference is a flag to watch the candles closely.
4
Cure and burn in matched pairsYour normal cure, then matched burns of 3–4 hours (a commonly used cycle, labelled). One candle of each to the end of its life; one of each on the shelf.
5
Release the bag or hold itNo worse than control on every safety line, inside your tolerance on throw and appearance: release the bag into production. Otherwise, hold it and message CSI on WhatsApp with photos and the order date.

The decision rule

Working decision rule · replace example prices and the storage window with yours
Which pack to buy
Situation Rule What you buy
Supplier carton cheaper per kg; you use ≥ carton ÷ storage window Example: ≥8.3 kg a month The carton, after a lot check on the first one
Supplier carton cheaper; you use less than that Saving real, but wax waits too long Stay on the smaller pack
CSI Natural Soy Pearl ≥1.7 kg a month (example window) 5 kg (₹2,124.00); 10 kg (₹4,248.00) for handling only — same ₹424.80 a kilo
CSI 468 ≥5 kg within your window 5 kg (₹3,185.00) — ₹637.00 a kilo
CSI Chunks No per-kg gain at any size 5 kg bags (₹2,995.00); two 5 kg beat one 10 kg by ₹9.00
CSI 464 Flat from 1 kg Any size from 1 kg; 25 kg not listed — ask on WhatsApp

For a maker who uses about 15 kg a month and is choosing among CSI's listed packs, the concrete purchase is: Natural Soy Pearl as one 10 kg bag plus one 5 kg bag (₹6,372.00) if it is your approved wax, or CSI 468 as three 5 kg bags (₹9,555.00). Either way, run the ₹1,300.00 lot check on the first larger bag. If your current supplier offers a genuine 25 kg carton, apply the threshold table with their real prices — and still check the first carton against your retained sample. Landed cost per kilo adds shipping to the same comparison, and cost per saleable candle is where the pack rate finally lands.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. We would sell more if we told you bigger bags are always cheaper. They are not: on our listed prices, a 10 kg bag of Chunks costs more than two 5 kg bags, and no soy wax we list gets cheaper per kilo above 5 kg. Buy the 5 kg step where it exists, and buy larger only for handling convenience.
A bigger bag that is no cheaper per kilo is just a heavier bag.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. It would be easy for us to say "bigger bags are cheaper". On our listed prices that is only true at the 5 kg step for two waxes, and for Chunks a 10 kg bag is fractionally dearer per kilo than two 5 kg bags — so we say so.

Frequently asked questions

Is it cheaper to buy soy wax in 25 kg cartons?
Often per kilo, from suppliers that sell cartons. Whether it is cheaper for you depends on using the carton inside your storage window. CSI lists no 25 kg carton.
How do I calculate when a bigger wax pack is worth it?
Take the larger of: carrying cost of the extra stock a month ÷ saving per kg, and pack size ÷ months you are willing to hold it. Use your supplier's real prices.
Is CSI's 10 kg soy wax cheaper than 1 kg?
Not for Chunks (₹599.90 vs ₹599.00 a kilo) or CSI 464 (₹507.40 both). CSI 468 and Natural Soy Pearl are cheaper from 5 kg, and no cheaper again at 10 kg.
What is the cheapest soy wax per kg at CSI?
Natural Soy Pearl at ₹424.80 a kilo in 5, 10 and 50 kg bags. Test it against your current wax before switching — no fragrance ceiling or temperatures are published for it.
Does CSI 464 come in a 25 kg bag?
The CSI 464 product page mentions a 25 kg format, but it is not a listed size. Ask CSI on WhatsApp whether it is available; it is not priced here.
Should I test a new bag of the same wax?
Yes — a larger pack is usually a new lot. Pour three candles from a retained sample of the approved bag and three from the new one. The true commercial cost formula shows where the check fits.

About this guide: Written by the CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA team. Product recommendations reflect the CSI range. The pack-size threshold method applies to any supplier's packs.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — Eco Candle Wicks, Premium Candle Wicking Needle and Bamboo Wick Holder. They are general product reviews, not assessments of the guidance set out here. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me and wording is unedited. "Verified buyer" appears only on the three reviews Judge.me recorded as verified — Monika Deep, Subhankar Roy and Sneha Tamang; the reviews from Ashwini, LJ and Lalitha Jagan are published but not recorded as verified, and carry no badge.
