Price per kg vs real cost · Bulk discounts
Buying 100 kg when you use 25 kg a month means paying for four months today. Here is how to weigh the discount against the cash it ties up — with example figures you replace — and what CSI's real listed packs say.
₹15.00
break-even discount per kg for 100 kg vs 25 kg monthly · example ₹480.00 / kg, 18% a year, 1% risk · CSI lists no 100 kg pack
Quick answers — read this first
Is a 100 kg discount worth it at 25 kg a month? Only if it beats the carrying cost. Example: ₹30.00/kg off saves ₹3,000.00, carrying and risk cost ₹1,440.00, net ₹1,560.00.

What discount do I need? About ₹15.00 a kilo at an example ₹480.00 wax, 18% a year cost of money and a 1% risk allowance.

How much extra cash goes out? ₹33,000.00 more in month one; the bulk plan only comes out ahead in month four.

Does CSI sell 100 kg cheaper? No 100 kg pack is listed and no discount is published. Soy Pearl's ₹424.80 a kilo starts at 5 kg. See CSI's real packs.
The short answer
Answer: Take the discount only if (discount × 100 kg) exceeds the extra average stock × your cost of money × 4/12, plus storage risk.
Example: ₹480.00 vs ₹450.00 a kilo: gross ₹3,000.00, carrying ₹990.00, risk ₹450.00, net ₹1,560.00; break-even ₹15.00 a kilo.
CSI packs: No 100 kg pack, no 25 kg carton. Per kg is the same for 25 kg and 100 kg on every CSI soy wax. Pack-size thresholds.
Same wax, same use — four times the stock on the shelf 25 kg used a month (reader's figure) · buy 25 kg monthly vs 100 kg at once 0 kg 25 kg 50 kg 75 kg 100 kg month 0 month 1 month 2 month 3 month 4 100 kg at once · average 50.0 kg on the shelf Monthly 25 kg · average 12.5 kg The shaded gap is cash you have paid early: ₹16,500.00 on average for 4 months at the example prices. At an example 18% a year it costs ₹990.00 — set that against the ₹3,000.00 discount.
Using 25 kg a month (the reader's figure), a 100 kg purchase keeps an average of 50 kg on the shelf against 12.5 kg when buying monthly. The shaded area is cash paid early. Prices, the 18% cost of money and the risk allowance are labelled examples; CSI lists no 100 kg pack.
Straight answer
My wax supplier offers a lower price at 100 kg but I only consume 25 kg per month — how do I calculate whether the discount is worth tying up cash?
Compare the discount with the cost of carrying the extra stock. Buying 100 kg at 25 kg a month means holding an average of 50 kg instead of 12.5 kg for four months. With labelled example prices of ₹480.00 a kilo on 25 kg orders and ₹450.00 at 100 kg, the gross saving is ₹3,000.00; the extra ₹16,500.00 of average stock costs ₹990.00 at an example 18% a year, plus an example 1% storage-risk allowance of ₹450.00 — a net ₹1,560.00. The break-even is about ₹15.00 a kilo; below it, you are paying to store wax. You also pay ₹33,000.00 more in month one. On CSI's own catalogue the answer is simpler: no 100 kg pack is listed and no discount is published, and every CSI soy wax costs the same per kilo at 25 kg as at 100 kg. The one real break — Natural Soy Pearl's ₹450.00 → ₹424.80 a kilo — starts at 5 kg.
One line: a discount smaller than the carrying cost is a storage fee you pay in advance.
CSI lists no 100 kg pack and publishes no volume discount — container soy wax bags stop at 10 kg, and Natural Soy Pearl Wax goes to 50 kg. The one real per-kilo break in CSI's soy range is Natural Soy Pearl's step from ₹450.00 (1 kg) to ₹424.80 a kilo from 5 kg; 25 kg of it costs ₹10,620.00 as 2 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg, and 100 kg costs ₹42,480.00 — exactly the same rate.
Buy Natural Soy Pearl Wax

The discount is worth it only if it beats the cost of the cash it locks up

A bulk discount is a loan you make to your own store-room. Check the interest rate.

Your supplier is offering a lower price per kilo if you take 100 kg. You use 25 kg a month. Buying 100 kg means paying for four months of wax today and storing three of them. The discount is the return you earn on that early payment; the cost is the cash you could have used for something else, the space, and the risk that something goes wrong with the stock before you use it. The decision is a comparison of those two numbers — nothing more.

Your title gives no prices, so this page uses labelled example figures you replace: ₹480.00 a kilo for 25 kg orders and ₹450.00 a kilo at 100 kg — a ₹30.00 discount. Over four months, buying monthly costs ₹48,000.00; buying 100 kg once costs ₹45,000.00. The gross saving is ₹3,000.00. But the bulk plan keeps an average of 50 kg on the shelf instead of 12.5 kg, which is ₹16,500.00 of extra cash tied up on average. At an example cost of money of 18% a year (your loan rate, or what the cash would earn elsewhere), that costs ₹990.00 over the four months. Add an example 1% storage-risk allowance (₹450.00) and the net saving is ₹1,560.00.

So in this example the discount is worth taking — just. The break-even discount is about ₹15.00 a kilo with the risk allowance (₹10.49 without it). Anything less than that, and you are paying to store wax. Anything more, and the bulk buy earns its keep — provided you have the cash in month one, somewhere cool to keep 100 kg, and a wax you have already approved. The rest of this page makes each of those checks concrete, then re-runs the question with CSI's real listed packs, where the answer is different.

The CSI principle
Buy bulk when the discount per kilo beats the cost of carrying the extra stock. Not before.
With 25 kg a month and 100 kg in one go, the carrying cost is the extra 4-month average stock × your cost of money, plus storage risk.

The cash-flow table, month by month

The average-stock method above is the textbook version. The month-by-month view is what your bank account sees. In month one the bulk plan takes ₹45,000.00 out at once, against ₹12,000.00 for the monthly plan. You are ₹33,000.00 further out of pocket. That gap closes each month you do not buy, and only in month four does the bulk plan come out ahead.

Example prices ₹480.00 / kg (25 kg orders) and ₹450.00 / kg (100 kg) · reader's 25 kg a month · replace with your quotes
Cumulative wax spend: monthly vs 100 kg at once
Monthly plan pays Bulk plan pays Monthly, cumulative Bulk, cumulative Bulk ahead of monthly by
Month 1 ₹12,000.00 ₹45,000.00 ₹12,000.00 ₹45,000.00 ₹33,000.00
Month 2 ₹12,000.00 ₹0.00 ₹24,000.00 ₹45,000.00 ₹21,000.00
Month 3 ₹12,000.00 ₹0.00 ₹36,000.00 ₹45,000.00 ₹9,000.00
Month 4 ₹12,000.00 ₹0.00 ₹48,000.00 ₹45,000.00 −₹3,000.00

Read the last column as "how much extra cash the bulk buy has borrowed from the rest of the business". It is ₹33,000.00 after month one, ₹21,000.00 after month two and ₹9,000.00 after month three, and turns into a ₹3,000.00 saving only when the fourth month's order would have been placed. If a festive order, a jar shipment or a marketplace payout delay lands inside those first months, that borrowed cash is exactly what you will be short of. Cash preservation against lower unit cost covers the case where you could buy 25 kg today or 100 kg at a discount and cash is tight.

Net saving on 100 kg after carrying cost and an example 1% storage-risk allowance · 4 months of stock
How the answer moves with the discount and your cost of money
Discount at 100 kg Cost of money 12% a year 18% a year 24% a year
₹10.00 / kg −₹170.00 −₹520.00 −₹870.00
₹20.00 / kg ₹860.00 ₹520.00 ₹180.00
₹30.00 / kg ₹1,890.00 ₹1,560.00 ₹1,230.00
₹50.00 / kg ₹3,950.00 ₹3,640.00 ₹3,330.00

Two patterns stand out. First, a small discount — ₹10.00 a kilo on a ₹480.00 wax — barely clears the carrying cost and can lose money if your cash is expensive. Second, the effect of the discount is far larger than the effect of the interest rate: going from ₹20.00 to ₹30.00 a kilo moves the result by about ₹1,000, while going from 12% to 24% moves it by about ₹600. So the first question to ask your supplier is the size of the discount; the second is whether you can spare the cash.

Express the saving per candle
100 kg makes about 543 candles of 200 g at 8% (184 g of wax each). The ₹30.00 discount is ₹5.52 a candle gross, and ₹2.87 after carrying cost and risk. Put that next to your selling price before deciding it is worth the cash. What ₹20, ₹50 or ₹100 a kilo means per candle runs this for every size of gap.

The same question with CSI's real listed packs

On CSI's listed prices, buying more wax mostly buys more wax, not a lower rate.

CSI does not list a 100 kg pack or a 25 kg carton, and publishes no volume discount; larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp. So the reader's offer cannot be priced from our store. What can be priced is what 25 kg and 100 kg cost when assembled from the packs that are listed — and that shows where the bulk savings actually are on our catalogue.

Wax 25 kg: packs 25 kg: price 100 kg: packs 100 kg: price Per kg either way

Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 2 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg ₹15,925.00 10 × 10 kg ₹63,700.00 ₹637.00
Natural Soy Pearl Wax 2 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg ₹10,620.00 2 × 50 kg ₹42,480.00 ₹424.80

Every row has the same price per kilo for 25 kg and 100 kg. On the listed catalogue, taking four months at once saves nothing on any CSI soy wax — so the carrying cost and the storage risk are pure loss. Chunks is the clearest case: the 10 kg bag is ₹599.90 a kilo, fractionally dearer than the 1 kg bag at ₹599.00, and 25 kg is cheapest as five 5 kg bags (₹14,975.00), not as two 10 kg bags plus a 5 kg. (Strictly, fifty 500 g bags would be ₹25.00 cheaper still at ₹598.00 a kilo — a quirk of the listing, not a reason to order fifty bags.) CSI 464 is ₹507.40 a kilo flat from 1 kg up. CSI 468 has a small 2.0% step at 5 kg (₹650.00 → ₹637.00 a kilo).

Natural Soy Pearl is the one real break, and it sits low: ₹450.00 for 1 kg, then ₹424.80 a kilo from 5 kg — a 5.6% step that a 25 kg month already captures. Buying 25 kg as 1 kg bags would cost ₹11,250.00; as 2 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg it is ₹10,620.00. The 50 kg bag is listed (in limited stock — confirm on WhatsApp before planning around it) at the same ₹424.80 a kilo. So if you want CSI's lowest rate on soy wax, you get it at 5 kg, not at 100 kg, and your cash stays free. If you need a quote for a larger quantity, ask on WhatsApp — no discount figure is published.

Buying 100 kg to "lock in" a rate that is the same at 5 kg. On CSI's listed packs, a 100 kg order assembled from 10 kg or 50 kg bags costs exactly the same per kilo as a 25 kg order. Fix: buy each month's wax as the cheapest listed combination for that month — for Chunks five 5 kg bags, for Soy Pearl two 10 kg bags and a 5 kg — and keep the rest of the cash.

Before you hold four months of any wax: qualify it

Whichever supplier you buy from, 100 kg of a wax you have not approved is 100 kg of risk. If the real saving on CSI's catalogue comes from moving to Natural Soy Pearl (₹424.80 a kilo) from Chunks (₹599.00), that is a wax change, and it needs a side-by-side test against your current candle before you buy more than a bag. Pour 4 candles in your current wax (the control) and 4 in the candidate, with the same Fresh Strawberries Fragrance Oil at 8% (16 g oil + 184 g wax), the same Eco Thin C1 wick and the same White Matte jar. Natural Soy Pearl has no fragrance ceiling, melt point or pour temperature published, so 8% is a labelled test load — ask CSI on WhatsApp for the wax maker's stated maximum.

1
Pour 4 + 4 candles on the same dayThree of each for burning, one of each for storage. Weigh and label every base: wax, pour date, candle number. Follow each wax's instructions; CSI's product page for Chunks states fragrance addition at 80–90°C and pour 75–80°C in its spec table.
2
Cure both to the same checkpointUse your normal cure, identical for both. Cure time and working capital explains why that number also matters to cash.
3
Burn in matched pairs to the end of lifeOne control and one candidate together, same room, 3–4 hour cycles (a commonly used cycle, labelled). Candle 1 of each goes to the end of its life.
4
Store one of each where the bulk wax would liveIf you plan to hold months of stock, the storage candle sits in that same store-room through the test. Check it weekly for sweating, frosting and softening and log the room's minimum and maximum temperature.
5
Store a sealed sample of the wax itselfKeep 300 g of the candidate in a sealed, labelled bag in the store-room as a retained sample. CSI's product pages state a 60-month shelf life in cool, dry storage for CSI 464 and CSI 468; no shelf life is published for Natural Soy Pearl or Chunks — ask on WhatsApp.

The decision rule

Working decision rule · replace the example figures with your supplier's quote and your own cost of money
Should you take the 100 kg price?
Situation Rule What you buy
Discount per kg below the break-even Example break-even ≈ ₹15.00 a kilo Keep buying 25 kg a month
Discount above break-even, wax already approved, cash and cool storage available Net saving positive after carrying cost Take the 100 kg; keep a retained sample of the lot
Discount above break-even but cash needed for a festive order Peak extra outlay ₹33,000.00 in month one Buy monthly until after the festive peak
Wax not yet approved Qualification first The ₹2,405.00 test kit, then one month's wax
Buying from CSI's listed packs No per-kg gain above 5 kg on any soy wax Monthly: Chunks 5 × 5 kg (₹14,975.00) — or Soy Pearl 2 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg (₹10,620.00) once it passes

For the reader on this page — 25 kg a month — the concrete purchase from CSI is: keep buying one month at a time. If you stay on Chunks, that is five 5 kg bags (₹14,975.00). If the qualification test approves Natural Soy Pearl, it is two 10 kg bags and one 5 kg (₹10,620.00), which already carries the lowest rate CSI lists. Ask on WhatsApp for a quote above that; if one is offered, run it through the break-even above before you lock four months of cash into it. When a larger pack becomes worthwhile covers the same question as a monthly-volume threshold.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. A 100 kg order is a good day for any wax seller. On our listed prices it is a bad day for you: the per-kilo rate is the same from 5 kg (Soy Pearl) or from 1 kg (CSI 464, Chunks) as it is at 100 kg, so the extra ₹33,000.00-scale outlay buys only storage risk. Buy monthly, and ask us for a quote only when your volume is genuinely larger.
A discount that is smaller than the cost of carrying the stock is not a discount. It is a storage fee you pay in advance.

Related purchase-side costs

This page is about the cash cost of a bulk discount. The siblings handle the neighbouring questions: pack-size thresholds by monthly volume, landed cost per kilo after shipping, what ₹20, ₹50 or ₹100 a kilo does to COGS and cure time as working capital. The true commercial cost formula has a line for each. Outside the cluster, buying 25 kg at a time vs holding stock and storing 100 kg through an Indian summer go further into inventory and storage.

Buying from another supplier? Put their 25 kg and 100 kg prices into the break-even, use your real cost of money, and add a storage-risk allowance that reflects your store-room. Then compare the net with CSI's listed rates — Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 ₹507.40 a kilo flat, Natural Soy Pearl Wax ₹424.80 a kilo from 5 kg — which need no bulk commitment at all. The full range is in Candle Wax.
Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. A wax seller would like you to buy 100 kg. On our own listed prices there is no per-kilo reason to: the rate at 25 kg is the rate at 100 kg for every soy wax we sell. So this page tells you to buy monthly, and shows how to test any other supplier's bulk offer properly.

Wax and oil prices are CSI live pricing pulled on 24 September 2026 and re-checked on 1 October 2026 (unchanged). Wick and jar prices are those verified for Blog 760 on 10 September 2026. Pack combinations, cash flows, carrying costs and break-evens are plain arithmetic shown to two decimals.

The ₹480.00 and ₹450.00 a kilo prices, the 18% a year cost of money (and the 12% and 24% sensitivity), the 1% storage-risk allowance, the 200 g candle at 8% and the qualification design are labelled examples and working practices; the 25 kg a month and 100 kg are the reader's figures. Frequently asked questions

Is it worth buying wax in bulk for a discount?
Only if the discount exceeds the cost of holding the extra stock: extra average stock value × your cost of money × months held ÷ 12, plus a storage-risk allowance. Run it with your supplier's real prices.
How do I calculate inventory carrying cost for candle wax?
Average stock in kg × price per kg × annual cost of money × months ÷ 12. Buying 100 kg at 25 kg a month means an average of 50 kg held for 4 months.
Does CSI sell soy wax in 100 kg or 25 kg packs?
No. Container soy wax bags are listed up to 10 kg and Natural Soy Pearl up to 50 kg. Larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp; no volume discount figure is published.
Which CSI soy wax is cheapest in bulk?
Natural Soy Pearl at ₹424.80 a kilo from 5 kg is the lowest listed rate and the only real per-kilo break (from ₹450.00 at 1 kg). Test it against your current wax before switching.
How long can soy wax be stored?
CSI's product pages state a 60-month shelf life in cool, dry storage for CSI 464 and CSI 468. No shelf life is published for Chunks or Natural Soy Pearl — ask on WhatsApp, and keep a retained sample of every lot.
Should I buy four months of wax at once?
Not on CSI's listed prices, which give no saving above 5 kg. For another supplier, only if the discount clears the break-even and you have approved the wax, the cash and cool storage. The true commercial cost formula puts this next to every other cost.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — Eco Candle Wicks, Premium Candle Wicking Needle and Bamboo Wick Holder. They are general product reviews, not assessments of the guidance set out here. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me and wording is unedited. "Verified buyer" appears only on the three reviews Judge.me recorded as verified — Monika Deep, Subhankar Roy and Sneha Tamang; the reviews from Ashwini, LJ and Lalitha Jagan are published but not recorded as verified, and carry no badge.

Non-price figures and assumptions: 25 kg a month and 100 kg are the reader's figures. The ₹480.00 / ₹450.00 a kilo supplier prices, the 12% / 18% / 24% a year cost of money, the 1% storage-risk allowance, linear use through the month (average stock = half the purchase) and the 200 g candle at 8% (16 g oil + 184 g wax) are labelled examples. CSI lists no 100 kg pack or 25 kg carton and publishes no volume discount. Product-page statements quoted: Chunks — 13% maximum load, fragrance addition 80–90°C, pour 75–80°C (spec table), cure minimum 48 hours, ideally 1–2 weeks; CSI 464 and CSI 468 — shelf life 60 months in cool, dry storage.
