Container candle wax
Buyers search for a hot-throw wax. The wax sets the ceiling on fragrance load, but the wick, the oil and the cure decide how much of it reaches the room.

Straight answer
Strong Hot Throw Soy Wax for Container Candles
Pick a wax with enough fragrance headroom — Chunks or CSI 468 at 13% stated, CSI 464 at 10% — then get the wick, oil and cure right. The ceiling is not the target: most jars perform well at 8–10%.
One line: the wax's share of hot throw — and the three other things that matter as much.
Default container wax: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (flakes), ₹507.40/kg.

What decides throw in a jar

Four factors
The wax is one of four
Factor What to do Why
Wax fragrance ceiling Chunks and CSI 468 stated 13%; CSI 464 10% Sets the maximum you can add
Wick Size to the jar diameter Too small a wick = small melt pool = weak throw
Fragrance oil Oil choice and its own stated load Some oils throw harder than others at the same %
Cure Let soy cure before judging Hot throw improves over the cure

A load ladder: finding where extra oil stops adding hot throw

Every wax has a stated ceiling, and the useful number sits below it. Somewhere between a light load and the ceiling, more oil stops making the room smell stronger and starts making the candle dearer, softer and more likely to sweat. A ladder test finds that point for your wax, your oil and your jar.

Set up the ladder

Choose one wax with headroom: CSI 468 or Luxury Soy Wax Chunks if you want room to go high, CSI 464 if 10% is enough. Choose one oil and check its own stated load first; Cinnamon Vanilla, stated up to 13% in candles, gives the most room. Pour three identical jars from the same melt at 6%, 8% and 10% of total candle weight. In a 200 g jar that is 12 g, 16 g and 20 g of oil. Keep the wick, the jar and the pour temperature the same.

Burn one at a time in a fixed room

Hot throw is judged in a room, so use the same room every time, with doors and windows set the same way. Burn one candle for a fixed period, step out, then walk back in and note how quickly you notice the scent and how strong it is. Air the room fully before the next candle. Burning all three together tells you nothing about which one is doing the work.

Repeat the round after a longer cure. Soy's hot throw improves as it cures, and a candle judged too early can make a lower load look weaker than it will be.

Mistake: reading the ladder in only one season. A warm room carries scent differently from a cool one, and a heavily loaded candle can sweat in heat. If you sell through April to June, when north and west India routinely reach 40–45°C, repeat the top rung in those conditions before you settle on it.

Reading the result

If 8% and 10% smell the same in the room, your answer is 8%, and you save 4 g of oil in every jar. If 10% is clearly stronger, you have earned the right to test higher in a wax that allows it. If none of the three throws well, the wax is probably not the problem: look at the wick size and the oil before you look for another wax.

Keep the ladder jars
Label the three jars and keep what is left of them. When you change oil, jar or wick later, they are a ready-made comparison.

Argue against interest
Buy the wax your candle needs, not the bag that looks professional.
We would sell more by telling you to buy 10 kg. On most of our waxes it is not cheaper per kilogram, and wax you cannot use before summer is a storage problem.
Price the candle, not the kilogram.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. We publish every pack price, so every per-kilogram and per-candle figure here can be checked against the product pages — including the ones that show a bigger bag is not cheaper.

Prices are taken from live CSI stock in September 2026. Where a product page does not publish a specification, this guide says so rather than filling the gap.

Assumptions: Fragrance load 8% of total candle weight, so wax is 92% of the fill (a 200 g candle = 184 g wax + 16 g oil). Order plans add a 5% wastage allowance (10% where stated for festive buffers). "Cheapest listed packs" is the lowest-cost combination of listed pack sizes, preferring fewer bags when prices tie within a few rupees. Candle counts are rounded down. Costs are core materials only and exclude jar, label, packaging, labour, freight and GST unless stated. Wax stated fragrance maximums are the wax maker's formulation limits, not regulatory limits. Pack sizes not listed on the store (2, 20, 25, 100 kg) are shown as combinations of listed packs; larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November.
